Alone, bereft, and unable to forgive himself for the slaughter at the ravine, the Nameless Dwarf swears to do one last thing, even if it kills him:

With Nils Fargin, the son of a Jeridium guild lord as his guide, Nameless pursues the survivors among the dwarves, hoping to convince them that the curse of the Black Axe has been lifted from him and they are safe to return home.

The trail leads to the town of Malfen--a nest of cutthroats and the gateway to Cerreth, the Land of Nightmare, which would be suicide for the dwarves to enter.

Nameless and Nils join forces with a shapeshifting assassin and a sorcerer under the sway of a dubious magical grimoire for the hazardous journey into Cerreth. It soon becomes apparent their new companions have agendas of their own.

With threats from within and horror on every side, Nameless knows that time is running out for his people. The only surprise is that they have lasted so long.

But new hope awaits him in a city beneath the waves--if he can first survive the unstoppable evil that destroyed the dwarf lords of old.

Internationally bestselling and award winning author Derek Prior excels in fast-paced, high stakes epic fantasy adventure stories in which good ultimately triumphs, but always at a cost.

Taking familiar fantasy tropes as a point of departure, Prior expands upon them to explore friendship, betrayal, loyalty and heroism in worlds where evil is an ever-present reality, magic is both a curse and a blessing, and characters are tempered in battle.

Winner of best fantasy novel 2012 (The Nameless Dwarf: The Complete Chronicles)

Fantasy Faction semifinalist for the SPFBO 2018 (Ravine of Blood and Shadow)

“Land of Nightmare: Soldier, Outlaw, Hero, King” (Annals of the Nameless Dwarf Book 4) is the lates in the revised edition of the ‘Nameless’ series by author Derek Prior. This book is 205 pages in length and sell for $4.99.

General Theme (minor spoilers)
Written in three sections, Nameless and his three companions (Silas, the wannabe next great mage, Ilesa the shapeshifter assassin and Nils the cowardly thief) start this adventure as they approach the seedy and derelict town of Malfen, then through the Farfall Mountains and finally into the nightmare lands of Cerreth. The four companions are loosely bound together for safety in numbers, but each has their own personal and often nefarious agenda. An abundance of new and terrifying horrors await that will test this shaky alliance to its core.

Some thoughts on the “Land of Nightmare’...

1.) written in author’s own impeccable style. No one seems to write descriptions of dangerous, scary situations involving horrific beings like Derek Prior.

2.) many unique and new horrors to delight the reader and torment our band of heroes. Even some old ones are thrown in to complete the seemingly endless numbers of enemies bent on our heroes demise.

3.) map... one wonderfully detailed map of the realm. Giving a sense of direction, distance and topography. Bravo of any and all maps in fantasy literature.

Conclusion:

A fabulous tale featuring some of the best fantasy/horror situational writing you’ll find anywhere. No one writes with this genre like Derek Prior.

As it is... 5 Stars.

I love this book and series. This is a reread too, as it's been redone. It still has all the action, as it previously had. The story still still fast paced. Ended in a bit of a cliffhanger, which I am not a fan of. Oh well...

Nameless continues his quest for redemption. Nameless the dwarf continues to follow his kinsmen into the nightmare lands in order to protect them and to tell them they can go home. Teamed up with Nils, Silas, and Elisa, Nameless continues his adventures. All the characters have pretty deep flaws but all have a need to have friends and work together, no matter what they think. Great continuation of the series. I'm gonna see it to the end. Very good narration for the audible version by Mike Carnes.
