Can a chance encounter help two lost souls find love?

Kit Macken is used to not being wanted. Slightly strange and a little odd, Kit believes he’s more likely to find gold than someone who loves him. Until a chance encounter brings him face to face with a man who knows what it’s like to suddenly be alone; footballer, Hugo Serin.

Fresh off a painful divorce and an even more painful broken leg, Hugo feels like he’s lost everything. Isolated and drifting, Hugo isn’t expecting a rom-com style meet-cute any time soon. But he hadn’t counted on meeting Kit, who might just be the walking ray of sunshine Hugo needs to break through the clouds surrounding him.

When a freak accident leaves Kit’s house uninhabitable, Hugo opens his home, and his heart, to the man whose charming eccentricity makes him feel things he’d long forgotten. All he has to do now is convince Kit he’s worthy of love, just the way he is.

Extra Time is a 77,000-word contemporary gay romance featuring a clueless protagonist, Scottish adventures, an overbearing best friend and a plan to capture Nessie. It is book two in the Off the Pitch series and can be read as a stand alone.

Well, this was cute and feel good.

-Loved the characters
-Demisexual rep
-Pansexual rep
-Dual POVs
--I loved Hugo's patience with Kit, never rushing him.
-Chemistry

My only niggle is that I wish there was more relationship angst. Everything lined up too easily, and I did find myself losing interest in the last 20% of the book.

All in all, it was sweet and romantic.

Another wonderful entry in this football series from Charlie.

I absolutely adored Kit, his artistic nature, his vulnerability, his longing for someone to see him for what he was.

And in Hugo he found the right man, a perfect foil for all his quirks, a man willing to let Kit be himself and provide him with the solid bedrock he needed to be able to let his creativity shine.

Relatively low angst, excellent demisexual and pansexual representation and a boatload of David and Christian appearances made it a winner.

I absolutely adored this book. It was everything I've imagined and more.

This is a story about Kit and Hugo. We meet them both in Breakaway.

Kit is David's best friend and former roommate. He is an artist who sometimes forgets to eat and sleep and people find him a little weird and eccentric. He had some bad experiences in the past, so he never expected to find someone who will love him just the way he is.

Hugo is a professional football player and Christian's teammate. At the beginning of the story, he's still recovering from a broken leg. After his divorce and his injury, he feels like he’s lost everything.

I loved the progress of their relationship. It's slow and beautiful and it feels so natural. I liked that they were friends first. It was incredible to see Kit coming out of his shell. He is utterly adorable and sweet.

I also enjoyed Kit and David's friendship. David's protectiveness is freaking cute. The fact that they all live next to each other made me squeal.

There's one thing I'm really curious about. Jordan's public declaration of love in the middle of the press conference…? Now I'm even more excited for book 3.

I received an ARC from the author and I am forever grateful.

I wanted to read this book since I saw the cover, because HELLO long hair! And after I found out that one of the MC is demisexual and the other is pansexual, I was really excited to read the story.

It was everything I needed and more. Kit's demisexuality was so well written and the whole romance around it was perfect. Kit is the sweetest and most precious character ever.

I loved the writing style, the plot, the characters, but the best thing is still how the author told the demisexuality. It was more than perfect.

Loved the slow burn, the falling in love part are always the best in romances and I love cute and real stories like this.

Since this is the second in the series, we could see other characters from the first book and from the third too, and I'm really curious about the other's story too. Christian and David looks really interesting, I loved them in this story, their friendship with Kit was adorable.

Really loved this book and highly recommend it!

Kit is an artist. He lives in his own world and he’s used to being rejected by people except for David his best friend. But after 5 years sharing the same roof, David is moving in with his boyfriend Christian. Kit is alone, again.
Hugo is a footballer and Christian’s teammate. After a bad injuria, Hugo has a long recovery. After his divorce with Helene, his injurie, Hugo has the feeling to lost everything in his life, until he meets Kit.
Kit and Hugo don’t want to be alone in life, they’ll start a friendship at first that will, soon turn out to be their last chance to never be alone …they just need to take it.
I adored this book. Kit and Hugo were fabulous, funny, sensitive and super-hot.
I adored Kit, he’s an artist, he lives in his own world most of time, but he can be very perceptive when it’s important. He’s also super funny and adorable. Hugo is calm, sensitive with a huge nurturer nature. He loves, needs, to take care of others.
The story was good, well written and full of fun and love. I really enjoyed the story. The characters were very interesting and well written.
Extra time is book 2 in the Off the Pitch series, but it can be read as a standalone. I didn’t read book 1 and I didn’t have any difficulty to follow the story and the characters.
I can’t wait for the next book, for now, I’m going to read Breakaway, Book 1 in this series.

I really enjoyed book one of the series, David and Christian’s story, and I went into this one with high expectations which were all more than met. I got such a warm feeling reading it which I think came from the great character development of Kit and Hugo and how their friendship evolved into something so much more. Kit was such a unique and utterly, utterly adorable person, it’s no wonder that Hugo was transfixed after meeting him and why his best friend, David, is so caring and fiercely protective of him. This was a story jam-packed with super sweet moments (Tim!!!), a glorious sexual awakening and was a true delight for the senses in the way that I could almost taste the cookies, smell the sandalwood and the vanilla and the heather. The way Kit and Hugo grew closer just felt so natural and palpable and so bloody beautiful. This book is like the last strawberry chocolate in the box that you’ve saved. You need to savour and appreciate because it’s so good and so very special, and it makes you feel cosy and wonderful. This is hands-down one of my favourite reads of the year.
P.S. The little exchanges at the start of each chapter will have you smiling like a loon!

After reading book one, I was SO happy Kit was getting a book.

Hugo and Kit were both so lonely. Once they met, they filled the hole that was in both of their lives. I fell in love with both characters. We really need more characters like this in mm romance. Demisexuality is rarely explored. I really liked how the author tackled this.

My cheeks hurt from all the smiling as I read this book. It was perfect and I can definitely see this book on my re-read list.

Loved Kit and Hugo characters. Especially Hugo who took such good care of Kit. Also liked the Football scenario, nice change from Ice Hockey, AmericanFootball and Baseball.

Kit is an artist in painting and graphic art, struggling to pay bills. He works too hard, forgets to eat or sleep if he has deadlines. He’s very shy, with only one friend who was a roommate for years. Now that roommate, David has moved out to live with his French boyfriend, Christian, Kit is becoming more of a recluse and lonely.

Hugo is French, and plays football in UK, Christian is a teammate. Recently Hugo was injured during a match and has a broken leg. Unable to train and play he is depressed and.lonely in his apartment. He had also recently divorced his French wife.

David and Christian throw a party in their house to celebrate their Engagement. Individually, Kit and Hugo are reluctant to attend but eventually decide to go for their friends sake. Neither of them had met before but at the party they are drawn to each other and spend hours chatting together.

Thus began a friendship between two lonely guys in London.

This was a really nice easy read with no triggers or interference from meddlers.

What an unexpected delight.

This is a well written, sweet and emotional story about a chance encounter that completely changes two men’s lives. This is a sports romance but the sport takes a back seat to the romantic story of Hugo and Kit.
They are such loveable characters. Kit is a quirky, demisexual artist. Hugo is delightfully sweet French, pansexual professional football (soccer) player.
Hugo doesn’t mind waiting for the the emotional connection that Kit needs. When that clicks into place the chemistry between them hits another level, as does the heat factor.
I wasn’t sure if I’d like this book as I’m not a big fan of the sports trope but I was immediately hooked from the very beginning. This is a well crafted, well paced story that had me quickly engaged and wanting to turn the next page to find out what happens next. There’s a little bit of angst, some emotional feels and a beautiful HEA. I highly recommend this book and I look forward to more from this new-to-me author.

how did a book so short feel like it was never ending?

content/trigger warnings; ableism, alcohol consumption, aphobia (arophobic language and mentions of past demisexual antagonism), explicit sexual content, injury, discussions of death of loved one, mentions of cancer, mentions of childhood neglect, mentions of homophobia, mentions of panphobia,

rep; kit (mc) is gay and demisexual. hugo (mc) is pansexual. david (sc) is bisexual. christian (sc) is gay.

there's nothing really wrong with this book. i think i was just expecting something else. the synopsis made me expect something angsty or that would at least make me feel the feelings. but aside from a laugh here and there, i didn't feel much of anything.

i like the rep, the conversations about it, and kit's exploration of his sexuality. the book is queer as fuck and that's awesome. i like kit's friendship with david. i like that hugo's ex wife isn't vilified, which is an easy trope to fall into. i like that kit and hugo's relationship is super supportive and the immediate ease they have with each other is lovely.

however i just didn't really click with the book. the dialogue didn't work for me most of the time and it really felt like the book was so much longer than it actually is. i really don't like the unnecessary "conflict". anyone who has read any adult romance review of mine knows that conflict hinging on the characters not communicating is something i hate with every fiber of my being. and while it lasts like two seconds in this book (why have it at all then?), it still makes me want to yell about how relationships can have conflict without it being due to lack of communication.

because it's my thing...hugo's pansexuality:

"i'd always been accepting and open about my pansexuality because it had never seemed like a big deal to me."

hugo also says something about people's heart and soul attracting him, not "what's in their underwear" and i'm not a huge fan of that explanation, for obvious reasons. it's easy to explain pansexual, even without using textbook definitions, that don't rely on reductive and outdated language. although in the next book hugo comes out publicly (i think) as pansexual and says it means he "dates people regardless of gender", which is significantly better.

I just adored this book! Kit is a character that just dug right in and took hold of my soul. I wanted to wrap him up in a big hug and mother him forever!

I got this book as an ARC and did not realize it was the second book in a series. Because I am kind of OCD about series and reading them in order I went back and read book 1, Breakaway, first and I loved that. Even though it says they can be read as standalones I really think you need to read book one first to fully appreciate the relationships between these characters. You can’t get the depth of feeling, nor the full character development for these main characters if you don’t have the full background story of this universe. Plus the MCs from book one and other secondary characters appear in this book so you’ll want to know about them.

The MCs in this book are Kit, an artist and Hugo a professional soccer player who is recovering from a broken leg. Both are lonely. Kit’s roommate and best friend David (one of the MCs from book 1) has moved out to live with his boyfriend Christian, one of Hugo’s teammates. Hugo just went through a divorce and his ex-wife (who he has been hooking up with for hate sex) is now going back to France for the summer. Hugo and Kit meet and immediately click as friends. When Hugo has an issue with his house Hugo offers him a. place to stay and things progress from there.

There is a very interesting and completely new for me dynamic to this relationship and it is handled so tenderly and so well that I was totally absorbed in the dynamic between these characters. It made me love Kit even more for the gentle soul that he is and love Hugo for the patient, understanding, wonderful man that he is. I have to say that I haven’t been so fully captivated by MCs that are new to me in quite a while. I was totally absorbed and rooting for them to the point that I was exceedingly anxious about what the crisis would be and how it would impact them! (You know the usual romance formula…it usually hits at about 85-90%...I had huge butterflies banging around in my stomach just waiting!!)

The ending is sweet and I loved the epilogue. Kit is such a unique and beautiful character and as a result Hugo is a lovely and patient and caring character which makes him super special too. I can’t wait to read more of this series when it comes out! Highly recommend.

*I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my objective review *

Kit and Hugo were so good together! I love the demisexual and pansexual representation because I can relate to both! I didn’t realize this was part of a series so I’ll have to go back and read David and Christian’s story! I’ve seen reviews that said they wished there was more angst between the couple but I was glad to read a story about two people who fit so well into each other’s lives. I loved seeing Hugo spoil Kit just because he could and wanted to make Kit smile. I loved watching Kit grow and flourish in his confidence as Hugo just let him be himself and didn’t ever rush him or make him feel inadequate or unworthy. This was a slow burn, low angst, lovely love story where both men contributed to the relationship, they both grew individually and as a couple. And the secondary cast of characters added to the wonderful story!! I loved it and it was just what I needed during this time!!

I loved this book both for reasons I did and did not expect. First, the reason I did expect was that it was a sweet, gently hot romance with two wonderful characters and a happily ever after. The second and third reasons were unexpected. This book actually made me believe in the characters' jobs. Many authors tell you about the jobs their characters have, but often, I don't get a sense of a real person doing a real job and what that entails. Here, Novak does an excellent job of taking you inside the daily life of an artist and a rehabbing football player. The joy as well as the stress and strain of daily work to actually earn a living came through as well as the desire to have more time for personal creativity rather than work that pays the bills. I love finding out what other people's jobs are like and how they make them feel day to day. The most unexpected aspect of the book was the interesting and informative way the author explored the the characters sexuality. There were discussions of pansexuality, demisexuality, sexual insecurity and negotiations of consent that were brilliantly woven directly into the story so they informed but were a natural, smooth fit. I would definitely recommend this as a gift to a young person who might be questioning where they fit in and what a loving relationship should look like and how one might be negotiated. Bonus points for a visit to Scotland and great descriptions of food, too! A definite 5 star plus read.

I actually won a copy of this recently and decided to read book 1 first although it isn't necessary but is helpful. We are introduced to Kit and Hugo individually in book 1. Kit is David's housemate and eccentric artist best friend and Hugo is Christian's teammate and fellow striker.

Book 2 starts after a potentially career ending injury for Hugo, he's still getting over his divorce and is quite lost and lovely. Kit is struggling to adjust to David having moved out and is also lonely. They strike up a lovely friendship and it is Hugo that Kit turns to when he needs somewhere to stay temporarily.

It is well written, absolutely charming and quite funny in places. Definitely going to look out for more from this author

I enjoyed, but not quite as much as the first. Once again, it really suffers from pacing issues. There's not a ton of conflict in this one, which means a lot of the scenes feel like pointless filler, and left me with a sense of frustration and "get to the point". I thought the romance was lovley and believable, but the sexual part didn't quite jive for me. I loved the demi-rep, but for all this talk and discussion about what it meant to be in a relationship, there were zero talks about how sex might actually work between them and what they wanted, and it felt really bizarre to not include a discussion once X was ready for sex. IDK, that whole aspect felt disconnected from the rest of the book, and I honestly skipped those scenes, which I pretty much never do.

A delightful story!

This is the second book, (my first though), so it does very well as a standalone - but it will make you want to read the first book :)
Kit is such a lovely person: guileless, somewhat scatty, fun and gentle. Hugo is also just a wonderful person, no ego, patient and loving.
I loved the texts that begin each chapter, Kit's love of biscuits (and that we both love Jaffas :) ).It's a sweet, low (really no angst) story. The progression from attraction took a slow, but steady path to love, and I loved the journey they both took to get there.
Definitely recommend.

I was immediately drawn to Kit when he was introduced in book one of this series. He's an interesting character, a loner, somewhat of a recluse, with few friends. He is loyal, funny and loving. However, he's been unlucky in love so he thinks he's unworthy. But then he meet's Hugo, and that match was perfection. These two men couldn't have been more perfect for each other. And Hugo was willing to go slow, to give Kit what he needed and deserved.

I found this story to be super endearing, and I adored the character's. Both men have past's that have tried to shape them into something they each are fighting not to be, and in each other they find their HEA!

Holy Hilarity and Hotness!! I can’t express how much I adored Extra Time by Charlie Novak. I absolutely loved this super sweet friends-to-lovers story. I giggled the entire time while reading this book that was full of humour, emotion, swoon-worthy moments, and steamy scenes, it has all the feels, and it was easy to get lost in the story of Kit and Hugo. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put it down, it ended way too soon. I love the ease of Charlie’s writing style, it was easy to pick up the book and not want to put it down.

This is an excellent addition to the Off the Pitch series and I loved it. Extra Time is well written, sweet, full of hope, hilarious, deals well with difficult issues, the storyline is great and the characters are amazing. I fell in love with Kit in the first book and I am so happy to read his story. He and Hugo are perfect for each other and I love how their relationship develops from friendship to a lot more. They have a strong connection and the best part for me is how Hugo understands Kit's sexuality and does not push him for more than he is able to give. Kit has an amazing relationship with his best friend David as well and I love how supportive and caring David is even though he can't help himself from worrying about Kit managing without him when he moves in with his boyfriend. There are a few issues to deal with but this is a low angst story with an exciting adventure and two wonderful men that find their perfect partner in each other. I love seeing how well David and Christian are doing and I can't wait to read the next book in this lovely series.

Beautiful!!!

The first time I read this author I was intrigued. I thoroughly enjoyed David and Christian’s story and thought the secondary characters should get stories as well. When I saw Extra Time I had to dive right in. Kit is adorable. Getting to know Hugo so well showed how perfect these two are for each other. They click so perfectly and get each other so well. I love how each chapter starts with the quirky texts. Now I can’t wait for Jordan’s story.

Lovely romance

This was a very romance.

I quite liked Kit in the first book, and I have to say, I completely fell in love with him in this one. He is sweet, quirky, different and wonderful. You discover aspects of him in this book that you didn't expect.
I quite liked Hugo as well. He was such a great man. With his own hang ups, but such a loving heart.

I really loved it and the ending was exactly what I could have asked for.
Simply wonderful, I really recommend it

Spit take warning!

I have to say that Kit and Hugo very quickly became one of my favorite quirky couples. But take heed, you should seriously consider not having a drink to hand while reading or using a liquid-proof device. Some of the funniest bits come in the most unexpected places and I had to clean my screen more than once. I'm very much looking forward to the next book in the series!

Damn, Kit was such an adorable character. I'd have loved to be his friend. I haven't read the first book in this series, but now I will because I really liked David's character and I wanna read his story now.

I loved Kit and Hugo's romance and their friendship. I loved Kit's friend from Tumblr and I loved his paint and charcoal splotched and chocolate loving persona.

I basically loved the book as a whole and now I'm gonna read Book 1 and then wait for the next ones in the series.

So so good!

I am in love with this author's writing! I enjoyed this book so much, even more than the first book in the series. Hugo and Kit were such an amazing couple! Kits demisexuality was handled so well and it touched my heart. Hugo was amazing! He just wanted someone to love and to be happy, he and Kit were perfect for each other! I adored seeing David and Christian and the gang again and cannot wait to read Jordons story next!
