A very readable autobiography, this book presents a man with varying interests and talents, who was mainly a musician and composer. Along the way, he does discuss his compositions and musical achievements, but he further discusses the people he met along the way and their high points.
Some of my favorite descriptions were his word pictures of the various dramatic musical programs he helped to staff, stage, and perform. It boggles the mind to think of the mountains these folks climbed without aid of our modern technologies.
