The storm raging in the Gulf isn't the only thing brewing between these two...
Cutter Thompson
Hurricane Tatum, a category five storm hell-bent on making landfall along the Alabama coast, is my opportunity, to show my friends and family the kind of man I've become.
The kid who lost his scholarship and the love is life is ready for a change. A change I'm equal parts scared will and won't come.
An EMT wasn't my first choice of careers, but it's become my calling. When the winds die down, the skies clear, and the rain stops, we're left with devastation the likes of I've never seen.
What I come to realize is ugly destruction can be beautiful, if we can only figure out what perspective to see it.
Rowan Baker
The LSERT is a Godsend, especially as us local first responders emerge from our shelters to see our town and homes destroyed. It's going to take time to rebuild.
Rebuilding is what I'm used to. After I watched my four-year-old daughter die in my arms I've done nothing but try to find a reason to live.
But I've got baggage. Memories, an ex-husband, and a fear I won't be able to save everyone.
When I meet Cutter Thompson, he reminds me rebuilding can mean letting go of fear and allowing myself to live the life I’ve wanted all along.
Cutter is a stand-alone book in the Laurel Springs Emergency Response Series. ➔ Small town ➔ First responders ➔ Angsty hero and heroine
And now, an EXCLUSIVE Goodreads sneak peek! (pre-edits, subject to change)
“Thanks for agreeing to come with me.”
She shrugs. “It’s a nice night, and I haven’t been for a walk on the beach in a long time.” I hope that means she hasn’t been out on a date in a long time, I don’t want to compete with someone else for her, but I will if I have to.
We walk in a comfortable silence, not like the one we had at lunch today. When we get to the road crossing, I reach down, grabbing her hand without even thinking about it. She gasps when our skin connects.
“Is this okay?” I hold up our entwined fingers.
“Yeah.” She licks her lips. “It’s okay.”
She feels it, that magnetic electricity I feel. She has to, it’s so palpable between the two of us. If we’re lucky it’ll ignite one day, but if we aren’t careful it’ll burn bright and fizzle out like an electric storm before we’ve been able to really experience it. The butterflies in my stomach push me to make a move tonight.
There’s a heaviness to the air, like our attraction is hanging between us. One of us needs to make a move on it, and if it has to be me, then I will.
The beach is empty, much like I expected it to be this time of night. We walk next to the shoreline, dipping our toes in the still-warm waters of the gulf.
“Do you worry about your brothers being cops?” I ask her, not yet having let go of our hand.
“Oh yeah.” She nods. “Every time we get a call about it being an officer when either one of them are on duty, I never feel okay until we get there and I see it’s not them. How about you?”
“Scares the shit out of me. Especially now that Ransom has a family. He got shot on duty a few years ago, and we were all worried. He and Stelle, they were dating, but they didn’t let anyone in on the secret, because they were afraid if they broke up it would divide our friends group and families. Looking at them now, though, I don’t know how any of us didn’t see that they were together. He loves his wife and kid more than anything in this world. I know he’ll fight to come home to his family every night, but sometimes…” I shake my head. “Like we see the worst in people, ya know? More than anyone else, we know that some human beings don’t respect life. They give no shits that these other people have families to go home to. I worry a lot about Keegan growing up without a dad, Stella having to bury her husband. I think that’s why I stay so close. Stella’s got a brother, but there’s just a part of me that feels like no one would take care of them if something happened the way I would. I know how Ransom loves them, I know how much he loves them. Maybe it’s weird…”
“No,” she answers. “I get it.”
We’re a bit quiet as we walk farther down the beach. She lets go of my hand and runs a little ahead of me so that we’re facing one another.
“You’re a good guy, Cutter.”
The moonlight is behind her, giving her a glow. She looks like a goddess bathed in the most sensual light I’ve ever seen. “Not so much right now,” I admit. “Not the way I’m thinking about you.”
“What would you say if I told you I’m thinking about you the same way.”
I lick my lips, letting my eyes drift down to hers. “Can’t be the way I’m thinking about you, sweetheart.”
“Yeah it can be,” she counters.
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah.”
My heart pounds and I clench my hands into fists at my sides. “Show me, Ro. Show me how you’re thinking of me.”
Great story! Cutter and Rowan are perfect for each other. Both have dealt with stuff in there past and are stronger because of it. They have both grown to be mature and caring people. These two meet while Cutter (Who is an EMT) is helping out a nearby town after a hurricane has hit and destroyed much of the area. Rowan is an EMT in that town. These two meet and form an instant bond - Becoming friends and then more. Quickly. So maybe insta-love??? How will they make there relationship work once Cutter goes home?
Don’t fret, this one does have an HEA. Now I want to read Sullivan’s story. I sure hope he gets one. :)
This book had me so emotional because from the beginning we knew Cutter had went through something that made him think his life was worthless until he became an EMT and was trying to prove to himself and his family he was so much better. Then we meet Rowan who has a tragic past and feels like she is a shell of her former self. Together it would seem like two people who are living with so much guilt and tragedy wouldn't be good for each other, together they seem to help each other learn to overcome. Can these two learn to move forward and learn to trust again or will they be doomed to distrust and let something good slip through their hands?
Absolutely amazing. Cutter and Rowan's story was heartbreaking and joyous all at the same time. Once again I drawn into the world of Laurel Springs and I didn't want to leave let alone have Cutter and Ro's story come to the end..for now as you know we will see them and their crazy family and friends in the next book. I couldn't be happier that Rowan & Cutter found each other. I laughed, I cried, my heart broke, and then I cried happy tears for them. I can't wait to see what happens next for the men and women of the LSERT.
Cutter and Rowan's story is a rapid romance. Their past will make them stronger because together they will grow with one another. I happy to see Cutter get he's HEA. Also loved seeing the other characters from LSERT.
Laramie Briscoe is on fire lately with her blue collar guys and y'all I am here for it and all her addicting words. All the swoony guys and all of the best romances is what she's best at and this book is a brilliant example of that. Laramie quickly became a favorite of mine after reading Renegade, the book that started all of this and I've been a huge fan ever since.
The LSERT series, a second generation to the originals, is back with its fourth standalone, Cutter and it's our guy Cutter on the chopping block this time and holy wow, what a story and journey they gave us. Cutter and Rowan, what a pair. These two were beautifully penned and expertly told from the very first word to the very, very last. Y'all seriously these two had me hooked early on and I couldn't stop once I "saw" them together.
Steamy. Emotional. Sweet. Heart-tuggung. Intense at times. Unputdownable. Packed with so many unforgettable moments.
Finally getting the highly anticipated story of Cutter! Cutter had been scorned in the past and it has dictated how he has lived his life. Starting to get his life on track by joining the LSERT team, he is dispatched for the first time to an area hard hit by Hurricane Tatum. After coming out on the other end of her hard past, Rowen feels like she has finally gotten a grasp on living instead of mourning - barely. But everything changes when she meets Cutter while helping rescue the people of her hometown. As they get to know each other, things develop naturally but quickly, and they both start to work through their pasts while giving each other the ability to start their lives over and fresh. My heart really broke for Rowen and what the experienced in her past but I loved her character development. I loved that we also finally got to know what really happened to Cutter after getting bits and pieces in the past books, and his character made a lot more sense after that. I’m loving the LSERT team and this next generation of books and can’t wait for the next one! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
What can I say, but d@mn! This book is fabulous. This is the fourth book in the LSERT series and it is about Cutter. He was seen by everyone as a screw up, however not everything is as it seems. He and Tucker take an assignment in Paradise Lost to help out with Hurricane Tatum. He meets Rowan and he knows he has found his "one". Rowan has been going through the motions of life for a long time and when she meets Cutter something sparks inside her. They are both broken in their eyes but together they will help each other heal. This book is their journey. It will have you smiling and crying, just FYI. I voluntarily received an ARC copy of this book and I have left my honest review.
Cutter is Ransom's younger brother and an EMT in Laurel Springs. He is also a member of the Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team. Rowan is an EMT in the small town of Paradise Lost. When a hurricane years through her town, the LSERT is there to help. He meets Rowan on their first day of responding to a collapsed building and the sparks between the two begin to fly.
Laramie Briscoe wrote a highly emotional book where both Cutter and Rowan have secrets that they are keeping from each other. Once those secrets are revealed, you understand more about why the characters are the way they are.
This is another great book in the Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team and I can't wait for more.
Wow this is my first foray into the world of Laramie Briscoe but I'm glad I took the plunge!
Being from a family of first responders, this book had me emotional from the start, hurricanes and heartache. I loved the backdrop of these EMTs lives and it added such richness to their story. Both Cutter and Rowan have been through hell but it's time they started moving forward and living again. They were great together and i loved the family/friends they had supporting them. I'll definitely be reading this rest in this series! Great book!
Get the Kleenex handy because "Cutter" by Laramie Briscoe is really the emotional, powerful, sizzling, amazing, intense romance reads. It's so beautiful and sizzling that it will leave the reader breathless from the chemistry, heat, angst, heartbreak, passion, romance and love that bounds forth. Cutter and Rowan each have their own set of issues. They are two lost souls who connect and are meant to be together but they need to find their way out of the dark..This story is touching and well-written; Ms. Briscoe did an amazing job of getting the plot out, explaining the challenges faced by the characters and describing the scenery throughout the book. Loved the feels that this story gives ❤. I can't wait for book 5.
Laramie Briscoe does book boyfriends like nobody's business. Cutter is positively swoon-worthy, and he and Rowan have terrific chemistry. The story is an emotional one, and from a mother's standpoint, it surely brought on a few tears, but I love that the angst doesn't come from the romance. And that just goes to show that you can have an emotion-packed romance while still having a romance between two people that just works. Cutter and Rowan just work. Of course, we also get to catch up with some other beloved characters from the series while this one still works well as a standalone. One thing's for sure, whether it's angsty or just lots of swoon, I can always count on this author for an engaging romance that I can't put down. Cutter and Rowan are just the latest in a long list of favorite Laramie Briscoe couples, and I can't wait to see what's next.
Cutter is book 4 in the Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team series written by the talented and amazing author Laramie Briscoe. This is Cutter Thompson & Rowan Baker story, their chemistry is off the charts hot and they are a perfect for for each other. Wow, just wow....I enjoyed this book so much. Once again, Laramie Briscoe delivers a story that gives you all the feels you can handle!
I had an opportunity to receive an ARC copy of Cutter and boy, this book is 🔥🔥! Once again, Laramie doesn’t disappoint. I love how Cutter and Rowan not only worked great together but after coming together helped each other heal and rise above what they went through when they were younger. Another great read! Great job as always Laramie!
Wow what an intense emotional read this was! Cutter and Rowan both have been dealt with crappy past, both have some trust issues, but holy these two had chemistry you could feel thru the pages. Loved how they both finally found the one they could trust with all their secrets and past.
Is there anything better than picking up a Laramie Briscoe book? No. No there is not. I look forward to every single one of her releases and it never fails that I squeal like a kid every time one shows up on my kindle. Cutter is exactly why I love her books so much. It’s emotional, heartfelt, sweet, sexy and so freaking swoony. Cutter is such an amazing man. A bit lost, and even a little insecure he was absolutely endearing. He has a heart of gold and it shines brightly even when he doesn’t realize that himself. Rowan was much like Cutter in feeling a bit lost. With quite a tragic past she’s one of the strongest characters ever, but just like Cutter she still has some hills to climb. I love they these two climbed those hills together. The way they not only grow but thrive as they fall in love was a thing of beauty!
Cutter (LSERT #4) is Laramie Briscoe’s newest release in her series about her fictional response team. This time it transports our hero, Cutter Thompson from his hometown of Laurel Springs to a hurricane site that needs help. Here he meets Rowan Baker, fellow EMT with a hole in her heart left behind by the family she lost.
I was certainly looking forward to seeing the gang of LS again but with a change of scenery, we encountered a different side to her writing. I liked that they met under different circumstances than usual and it gave the story a completely different feel, from the rest of the series.
Though this time around I don’t connect as much with the story. Unfortunately this feels very much repetitive from some of her other storylines. I expected something more from the background setting of a hurricane, and maybe something a little deeper. I felt like she skipped the whole slow buildup of the relationship between the two main characters. I had hoped we would have seen a slow start, friendship and then the relationship. There was even a few times where I wondered if I was missing a few chapters because it was so quick.
All that being said, I absolutely loved Rowan. This woman is so strong. Having to rebuild her life, suffering the loss she did, a kickass career helping people and still having the faith to jump off into the deep end of the pool with Cutter. She’s awesome. Now Cutter, the younger son of Havoc and Leigh. Ransom’s baby brother. The one I didn’t know much about and yet have played a part in every story up to this, he took me by surprise. He is such a contradiction. A badass with a heart of gold, sprinkled with a little bit of confidence issues based on past experiences. To me, the revelations of his character, was really what make the book. I hadn’t expected him to have this level of depth.
I have been an avid reader of Ms Briscoe’s since she released her first book and I still very much enjoy her writing style, and I did enjoy Cutter, I just expected more. Which is why Cutter gets 3.5 stars from me.
Cutter is a story about second chances in the midst of a disaster. Cutter is trying to find his place in the world after having to leave football behind. When he gets a chance to help with a Hurricane in another area he takes a chance to find something worth doing. There he finds Rowan who has been only living her life but not to its full potential. She is still grieving the lost of someone close to her that when she meets Cutter they experience something magnetic. While working the disaster area they find friendship with one another and something more in one another. They explore this new adventure that is filled with laughter, family and love. They help one another heal and find a happiness they have been searching years for. I love this story and I was so happy to get to read about Cutter. We didn’t quite get who he was as a person in the previous books. Rowan is my dream woman character because she was all about getting help when she needed. She was not all about the drama and she was loving. Cutter is funny, sweet, kind and reminded me so much of his father Havoc. The chemistry they have is intense and something they did not see coming. I love the characters and the story. I want to see more from the LSERT family.
As I sit here and contemplate what I want to say, only one word comes to mind WOW! Cutter absolutely gutted me and has left me feeling speechless. Laramie Briscoe is an amazing author and I love her books, but this book just became my absolute favorite book. After reading the book, in one sitting, I find my self wanting to go back and read it again. It’s just that good. A warning though, have some tissues handy because there are at least three scenes that left me moved to tears. I won’t be giving those away, but you will know them when you read them. Cutter and Rowan are both living their lives, trying to escape their paths, when they meet as first responders to Hurricane Tatum (love the Heaven Hill reference). Sparks fly between them as they help the people in Paradise Lost. Eventually Cutter returns to Laurel Springs, but does Rowan follow? You’ll have to read to find out. You won’t be disappointed! I received an authors copy but I have left an honest review.
In Cutter we get Cutter and Rowan's beautifully tragic story. Cutter has had a tough time trying to figure out his life since he lost his ride to Alabama. Coming from the family he comes from doesn't make figuring things out any easier. He's not sure if he fits in Laurel Springs. He decides to try his hand at being an EMT. The LSERT gets asked to help after a major disaster strikes. Cutter goes and there he meets Rowan a fellow EMT who has her own tragic past. While working together they strike up a friendship and start spending time together. They both come to realize that they're trapped by their pasts. Can they help each other heal and overcome their past tragedies? You really need to read this book and go on this journey with them as it's so well written and beautiful in it's emotions. Finally finding out what happened to Cutter at Alabama will break your heart. I feel like this is Me. Briscoe's BEST book to date!! The story is just SO beautifully told and relatable to everyone. I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion of this book. I can't wait to read the next book that the AMAZING Ms Briscoe writes!!!
Cutter is off to the Alabama Coast with the LSERT to help with the destruction caused by Hurricane Tatum. Rowan lives in Paradise Lost Alabama and all around her is loss and devastation from the hurricane and she knows all about loss after burying her four year old daughter who was her everything. This book absolutely broke me apart and had me in tears, it then put me back together in a way that makes you feel whole again. Cutter and Rowan had an instant connection and there chemistry was so hot that you could feel it coming of the page's of the book. Laramie Briscoe is a phenomenal author and writer and everyone of her books are a true masterpiece, and it shows because she takes you into the story right from the first page and you have to keep reading to see what happens next and it is totally addictive. This story is so emotional that you feel like you are going through everything with them. I definitely recommend that you read this book and others by Laramie and you will not be dissapointed. I Voluntarily Reviewed an ARC Copy of this book.
The LSERT Series has been so amazing and Cutter's book was no exception. I read it in one sitting, it was effortless to immerse myself in their story. What I love about Ms Briscoe's books is that they embody the saying that "its the little things that matter" and life is made up of mostly little things. They aren't billionaires, they aren't jetting off to Europe or something. The characters are real, with real, relatable problems which makes them so easy to love. Cutter's carrying around a lot of baggage from his past. He keeps it hidden but it is holding him back. Rowan's past is so heart wrenching, its a miracle and testament to her strength that she is still standing. The way they fit into each other's lives, the support and care that develops so quickly between them brought tears to my eyes. Good things can happen after tragedy and disaster and these two are the proof. Another crazy good story from the phenomenal Laramie Briscoe!
Wow! Just wow! This is one of my favorite books Laramie Briscoe has written. Cutter is book 4 in the LSERT series. Cutter Thompson had some issues when he was at Alabama and lost his scholarship. He went back to Laurel Springs & became an EMT and joined LSERT; but stills feels like he’s living down what happened, even though nobody really knows exactly what happened. Rowan Baker has some issues of her own that she’s living with and is an EMT where Cutter & Tucker have gone to help after a hurricane. Their story is heartbreaking in some ways, yet amazing and beautiful. And, of course, it WAS written by Laramie Briscoe, so even though there are some tears and gut wrenching parts, you’ll absolutely laugh also!! I couldn’t put it down and already want to read it again.
Cutter is book four in the LSERT book and each book can be read as a standalone, but you will truly love each book and set of characters if you read them all. Cutter didn't plan for his life to go as expected. Football was his life, but life had other plans for him and that was being an EMT. Now it's his time to show everyone that he isn't always a goof. He's headed to Paradise Lost to help rescue those affected by Hurricane Tatum. Funny thing about this little town called, Paradise Lost is Rowan is Lost trying to find herself again after the death of her daughter and divorce. She puts on a good facade though and braves helping her town. When these two meet you see the connection, but they know they need to focus on saving the town and living in two separate towns a few hours away may not be worth trying to explore their feelings. Love how this story plays out and how they each help heal each other in their own ways. Sometimes bad things must happen to good people for them to see that life had other things planned for them. You will love Cutter and Rowan and you will enjoy seeing them doing what they do best in the LSERT! I cannot wait for more LSERT especially now that we see the characters growing.
This book has all the feels in it. I’ve loved Cutter since he showed up as an adult in Ransom he has such a confident yet shy quality to him. He is definitely Havocs son. And when he meets Rowan you can feel the sparks fly off the page.
Rowan has had her life turned up Sadie and she closed herself off to the world. She goes through the motions not really living her life. That is u til she meets Cutter and he changed her life for the better.
These two are my new favorite couple they are both slightly broken but they use each other to put their pieces back together. They make the perfect couple and the chemistry between them are off the charts.
Cutter's story has been a story that I have been waiting in wonder to find out about. He is one man that has many layers to his complexity but a tender soul that has a great capacity to love. When he goes to a hurricane destroyed area he was lost and wondering if he truly fit in his life in Laurel Springs. Once working in the destroyed town of Paradise Lost, he not only found purpose in his life and his relationships at home but also the love of his life with Rowan, a fellow EMT who is still dealing with the grief and heart break of loosing a child while trying to find her footing in life again. This story could not have been a better story for this pair. The chemistry between them was amazing even though they both had heart breaking stories from their past. Their story moved along well and I was hooked to it once I started it, finishing it in one sitting. Through this story, I can see a few other stories that can emerge from it with the new characters that were introduced and I look forward to them if they come to fruition. Overall, this was a great story and a great addition to this series. I would recommend this book to others as well as the other books in this series.
"The characters of the LSERT stories just keep getting better and better. I loved Cutter's story. For Cutter this is his chance to prove to his family he isn't the kid that threw his chance away. The scene with Leigh and Holden brought me to tears. Rowan wasn't looking for a second chance, she was living day to day. A connection in a trying time, a fuse if you will is lit and together their flame takes a life of it's own. Love can be found in extreme circumstances and these two characters were destined to meet. I think this couple might be my favorite.
""..ugly destruction can be beautiful, if we can only figure out what perspective to see it."" ~ Cutter" ~Cindy
I am LOVING this series and I just knew that Cutter's story was gonna be epic...and it was!! This was the perfect chance for Cutter to prove he wasn't a monumental screw up and for Rowen to be there for him and him for her was such a beautiful time. ~Jen
I adored Cutter. He is a complex man with a beautiful soul. He goes to another town to help in the aftermath of a hurricane where he meets fellow EMT Rowan. Rowan has seen her own share of heartache in her life having lost her child. She is also trying to find her place in the world. When they meet, could it be their chance to find their places in each other's lives?
This story was a wonderful one for them. The story flowed well and I found myself rooting for their happy ending. The chemistry between them was off the charts. We also had a moment between Cutter and his parents that touched my heart. It was great to meet new characters and catch up with our favorites from Laurel Springs. . I highly recommend this story as well as the others in the series.
How do you overcome your past? Do you let it define you? Do you let it consume your future? For Cutter football was his life and he excelled at it - that is until he lost his temper and his ride. Now he's consumed by being an EMT, fighting off Hurricane Tatum and making his family proud. "The storm coming ashore doesn't compare to the one I have raging inside my heard and my heart."
Rowan is also an EMT fighting off her own set of hurricanes - she overcoming life after a bad marriage and a terrible loss. She always watching the careful eye of her family because they are waiting for her to lose it...again. Can Cutter and Rowan help each other move on and learn to not only live their life but to love again?
