For several years now, The King's Head pub has stood empty. When Charley and her father take over, they're determined to turn the place into a success story, but they've reckoned without the pub's eerie history. They soon come to suspect that they're being watched by the spirit of former landlady Muriel Hyde. And Muriel Hyde is angry.More than one hundred years ago, Muriel was a woman in love. She also had to contend with powerful forces that were determined to push her out of the pub. Now, even in death, Muriel is determined to make sure that her suffering is avenged and she'll stop at nothing to get what she wants, even if that means hurting everyone who stands in her way. But did she really kill herself all those years ago? What happened to her corpse after it was found? And what secrets lurk in the pub's dark rooms late at night? The Haunting of the King's Head is a horror story about revenge and redemption, about one woman's determination to avenge her own murder, and about a town that refuses to acknowledge the sins of its past.
Amy Cross writes novels and short stories in a number of genres, mainly horror, paranormal and fantasy. Books include The Farm, Annie's Room, The Island, Eli's Town and Asylum.
an old grudge between a brewery and a pub books over from 1910 into today time. a ghost who is part of that grudge enters charleys body to attempt to end that grudge. so this book hops between 1910 and today. normally time hop books dont bother me but for a ghost to just randomly enter someone else's body to end a grudge irked me.

Ok. I'm done reading this author. The number of mistakes was distracting. As in mixing up him/her in the same sentence, mixing up tenses and leaving words out of sentences therefore rendering them nonsensical. It seems minor to point out as well that the Ms. Title wasn't used in 19th century Britain . An effort to some basic research wouldn't have gone amiss. What really got me though was not even getting the characters names correctly at times. I mean really???? It may be worth mentioning that the ending was cringeworthy. Avoid.
Almost makes you wonder if there are such things as ghosts. It’s fun to imagine so, I think. It is sad, the injustices done to others, the less privileged by the too much privileged people. The way that many of the “old moneyed” families acquired their fortune are far less what they project outwardly snobbery.
This book focuses on one such tale, and how not so fine ways that they dealt with their oppositions. It’s true the idiom : Those with the most gold wins. Money does buy one’s happiness.
Charley and her dad have just moved to the Kings Head Brewery. She list her momma about a year ago, and her dad had to sell the house they all lived in. The memories were just too much. It's not to long before Charley starts hearing things that go bump in the night. I would have given this book a higher rating, but they're too many errors throughout the book. Amy Cross it would be nice if you would proofread all your books before you put them for sale on Amazon.
I was really hooked at the beginning of this book, it was proper scary but then it stalled/lagged in the middle but as I wanted to find out what really happened to Muriel I kept reading to the end. Finally it picked back up at the ending; the ending was good but I was already frustrated from having to read too much filler so thats why Im only giving it two stars.
This is a very interesting story by Any Cross. One chapter will be in 1910 and the next in the present. It is interesting to see how the two worlds intertwine. The resolution is really fascinating. I would recommend this book as its very entertaining.
A small family (father and daughter) from a larger city meet small town folk under rule of the wealthy for centuries - who finally get their come uppance. Mystery, history, love, murder, money - it's got it all!
When you produce as many books as Amy Cross you will get the odd turkey and this is one of these. I gave it 3 stars whereas 2.5 would be a more accurate score. The story was immature, as though written by a young teenager. Very disappointing.
... Then this is a great book. Good storyline and well written. I did find a few typing errors but then I am picky 😁 I'm really enjoying reading this author's books and i don't usually enjoy ghost stories. Looking forward to reading other titles.
As usual I enjoyed this book. Yes there were some errors but kindle state that there are quality issues so I won’t complain about that. Not that they bothered me tho clearly bothers some. I did enjoy the way it went back and forth , I don’t often like that in a book but I did this time.
This was a fun ghost story to get me out of a reading slump. It had most of the things I like in a story. A haunted house / pub, a small, strange town and a good storyline.
My only complaint is that there were quite a few errors throughout the book.
Enjoyable story of a haunting. A man and his daughter decide to try their hand at running a pub. Little did they know so many obstacles stood in front of them.
