A sweet, swoony short story from NYT and USA Today bestselling author A.L. Jackson
Kyle Love is the bane of my existence.Arrogant jerk.Ridiculously gorgeous.Completely out of my league.Did I mention he's my best friend's big brother?Oh yeah, and I've been in love with him my entire life.
Kenna Myer drives me insane.Adorably shy.Painfully awkward.Ridiculously beautiful. And my sister has made it clear on multiple occasions that she's completely off-limits.
When I show at the apartment she shares with my sister for a surprise visit to find my sister away for the weekend, I know a should walk. I don't.
It turns out my sweet Kenna has herself a secret...a blog called Something About a Hot Guy. I'm ninety-nine percent sure its top subject is me. One thing I’m certain of? Things are about to get interesting...

If she’s not writing, you can find her hanging out by the pool with her family, sipping cocktails with her friends, or of course with her nose buried in a book.
I do believe this is my first read by this author and I reaaaaaaaaally loved it. I've known of A.L. Jackson and her emotional stories for a while now and Something About a Hot Guy did not dissapoint. Yes, it's a novella and I definitely wanted more of Kenna and Kyle but that was all it took for me to fall in love with Jackson's writing (5 wonderful chapters). I am a sucker of 'I've loved you forever' stories and this one was oh-so-sweet. Gah, this couple was so cute and I loved them finally getting together!
4.5 stars - I'll be honest, even though A.L Jackson has been on my radar for years, I think this is the first time I've read or listened to one of her books. I love how she describes the scene and rolls through each character's feelings. She does it in such a way that I can imagine EVERY one.
I love how both have been nursing their unrequited love for the other for several years. Once the realization that it could actually be is reached, I love how they make the most of it. The uncertainty they have been shoving aside was saddening, even as the dawning of a new reality washed much of it away.
The man was hung like a priceless painting in a museum.. 🍆😍🎉 -- Kenna Myer
I listened to this on the Read Me Romance podcast. At the time of this review, these older episodes are still available (Episodes 40.1 & 40.2). Not sure how much longer they'll be there. I do wish the epilogue was included
The narrators are Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige. I really like both for these characters, but I love Tim as Kyle.
This is a fun, sexy story about two people meant for each other but neither of them had the courage to make it happen until one night everything changes.
This was a super cute, quick read from a favorite author. Because this is a novella, we do t get our normal deep dive into who the characters are, but there is enough that the emotions between Kyle and Kenna radiate off the ereader.
I loved the misunderstandings between the two and how that related to the emotions between them now. I wish we could have seen more from these two!
It's been a while since I listened to any of the Read Me Romance novellas, so I'm playing a little bit of catch up today while I work. Despite her books being on my TBR for years, this was my first A.L. Jackson book. Though I don't read a lot of it, I do enjoy a good "best friend's sibling" story. This one was cute, sweet and had a little steam.
Something About a Hot Guy was really entertaining! I'm not the biggest fan of novellas, because everything happens so fast but with this couple it worked. The fact Kenna and Kyle have known each other all their lives, it was easy to feel the connection between them. The writing was very beautiful as always with A.L. Jackson. Overall, I'm very satistfied with this sweet and sexy read!
Kenna is a work from home, type of young lady, living with her best friend. Kyle is her best friends brother, whom she has secretly been in love with forever! Read on and see if a childhood fantasy/crush can ever become reality or just that, a fantasy. Loved this cute short story❤️
Kenna was so shy and unsure of herself. She has loved Kyle, her best friend’s brother, forever but too shy and unsure to act. Little did she know Kyle has always wanted her. Love finds a way!
I inhaled this gem during a 3hr drive, and not in a greedy, give-me-more-now way, but more of a savouring, feeling-every-word kinda way.
Poetically written and deliciously smouldering, Kenna & Kyle’s story is not your usual BFB (Best Friends Brother) romance.
Heart-rending and emotionally honest, if you have ever loved—really, truly loved—someone from afar, for a very long time, thinking they couldn’t possibly ever be yours—because you’re you and therefore in no way enough—this one is for you.
I will say I was ok with (what to me felt like) the “sudden” (after allll the build up) HFN ending, but I would’ve loved just a little bit more...aka you-know-who’s reaction, as a start. But I’m greedy like that. 🤷🏻♀️😜
Wow! I totally loved this story by A. L. Jackson. The plot was interesting. The storyline was smooth throughout and fast paced. I was hooked from the very beginning. A. L. Jackson left me wanting more! Kyle and Kenna made a great couple. I loved their interactions. The chemistry between them was hot! The characters were well-developed and easily relatable. I can't wait to read more from A. L. Jackson.
This is my first time reading/listening to this author but it surely will not be my last! I absolutely loved this novella, the the voices were so clear and distinct and the romance just as swoony. I honestly hope that the actual book will contain either some extra scenes or an extended epilogue because I NEED MORE! A.L. Jackson did an amazing job and I can't wait to dive into her backlist!
This is not going to be a favorite, but it’s not to bad. I didn’t realize this was such a short story when I purchased it., If it was more of a longer full length book I think it would of been way better. Kenna is so shy and clumsy. For also being a really shy person I understand her 100% I just felt it wasn’t real towards the end with how she was now acting and speaking to Kyle. If she’s THAT shy then she wouldn’t of gone from major shyness straight to now saying things so boldly like, “Kyle,” she whispered. “I need you.” “I know, cupcake. You’ve got me. I’m yours. I’m not going anywhere.” “Actually, you are.” I jerked back to look at her. She had a coy grin on her face. “You’re taking me to my bedroom.” “I’m yours, Kyle Love. From here to eternity. I’m right here . . . take me.” “I’m yours, Kyle Love. From here to eternity. I’m right here . . . take me.”..... “I love you” So I think if it was a full length book it could of been even better and felt more real in the end, gradually developing into something great.
DNF I know the book is literally only 60 pages, but I couldn’t do it. I can’t take the book seriously. Kenna and Kyle are whiny and annoying. Kyle literally went on Kenna’s computer and read what almost seems like her diary. Ummm no thank you. Other than his utter lack of regard for other people’s privacy and need for personal space, Kyle has no other personality trait. Kenna also has no personality other than the fact that she has really bad anxiety that she’s letting rule her life. Apparently instead of helping her, all the people around her just enable it allowing her anxiety to take over her life. As someone who has anxiety, Kenna just annoys me because she’s not even looking for ways to deal with it.
When Kyle Love shows up unannounced at Kenna Myer's home, she's not sure what to do. After all it's his home that she along with her best friend, Kyle's little sister are leasing from him.
But there's one single problem, she doesn't really know how to act around him at all, given that she's been in love with him for as long as she can remember.
• This was a quick and fun read. Although I know novellas are short and sweet, I wish there was more story in there.
I definitely liked the style of writing, and I wish to read full length novels from the author!
This is a very short story but it doesn't take long to figure out that Kyle is absolute trash. He invades her privacy. Be physically restrained her multiple times from moving the way she wants to move. He bangs on her door, screams, curses at her and demands she open it. This is not a hero. This is not romantic. This is trash behavior and authors need to stop romanticizing it. Do better.
Too rushed, they had history but there was no build up to tell us who they are....just goes from secretly liking each other as kids to years later they see each other after 2 years and then boom in a day and a half of seeing each other, it’s happily ever after. Heroine is anxious and super shy to the point she teaches on line because she can’t go to work, but she can decide on a major decision.
This one felt reminiscent of her first series. Sweet enough to give you a tooth ache. I know it was meant as you a small snippet and I read it because I'm a big fan of the authors. It's that story of loving someone from a far BUT up close. I'm not sure if this happens in real life but it's sweet to read.
With my hectic work schedule I don't always have time to sit down and read a lengthy, involved novel. This was a short, fun story that allowed me a few moments to relax with worrying when income get back to my book. It is well written and it was fun. For all of us that have crushed on a friend's brother and wished for our own happily ever after.
Cute, yet sexy little diddy. Awkward girl faces her lifelong crush. Can she survive being around him without totally obliterating what little bit of self-esteem she has? He sure isn't making it easy. While this is a short read... about an hour or so, it has just about all the elements a full length novel has. It has some of that emotional up and down thing going for it. That angst. It has the sweet, yet flustered girl and the cocky yet endearing boy. Both want the same thing, but both are too afraid to say it. If you haven't read from this author before, this is a good chance to get a little taste of her writing without have to invest too much time. It alternates POVs. There is some sexual content, but it isn't overpowering in either it's position in the book nor it's graphic display.
