And Baby Makes Three: The Next Generation #5-6

Wildflower Ridge: Natural Born Lawman / The Unclaimed Baby

Rate this book
In the spring, both flowers and love are blooming…

Natural Born Lawman

Texas lawman Justin Adams has always played by the rules. Until one day the deputy catches a petty thief attempting to steal a bottle of baby medicine. The imploring eyes of desperate single mother Patsy Longhorn—not to mention those of her feverish little boy—just might make him reconsider.

After breaking off relations with her husband, Patsy Longhorn is wary of men in general, and facing police deputy Justin Adams should have had her running for cover. But somehow this man makes her wonder if maybe the time has come to stop running—if maybe Justin is what she’s been waiting her whole life to find.

The Unclaimed Baby

Sharon Adams once thought she had her whole future planned—until her dreams were snatched away and she was left running her family’s convenience store. Then on a fateful snowy night she finds two strangers at her door. The first is Cody Branson, an intriguing and irresistible man from another town. And the second is a baby, the one she’s always dreamed, and long despaired, of finding…

Loner cowboy Cord couldn’t say exactly what had brought him to Sharon’s door on that cold and snowy night. But when he sees Sharon Adams with a beautiful baby in her arms, for one wild and improbable second he dreams of having a family again. And he knows that, whatever it takes, he has to find a way to make it happen…

With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.

"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."

The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.

Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.

A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.

In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.

When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.

This book contains two complete stories set in the same small Texas town and features the same characters. The first story is titled Natural Born Lawman and is the story of Justin and Patsy. The second story is titled The Unclaimed Baby and is the story of Sharon Lynn and Cody Branson. Each couple have trials to overcome before getting their happy ending. The book was an easy quick read.

Two more Adams cousins find their forever. Justin, a deputy, meets a woman with a little boy and a big problem. Fear of an abusive husband sends Patsy to Texas with her toddler son and little money. Meeting Justin makes her nervous, but he's a great guy, too. There's an improbable ending here, but still a good one.
Sharon Lynn Adams had a tragedy send a bomb into the regular life she led. One evening, she finds a handsome stranger at the door of her store, and she feeds him burgers. A little while later, a baby is left by the back door of the store. An emotional tide puts her on a roller-coaster during this story but Cord helps create a new foundation for their lives together. One small thing bothered me while I read this book. There are quite a few errors, including misidentified characters and misspelled words..

This duo was weak. Maybe I’m supposed to know these characters, but they were not well developed. In the second story, a man who supposedly had a rough childhood in Montana comes to Texas and immediately uses Texas speak. Not likely. Or else very creepy. My main objection was how easily seriously threatening issues with child custody vanished in the blink of an eye. Not even likely.

This was a good lax read. A traditional hallmark kind. I enjoyed the stories. Truly I hate books with more than one story within, but this style was fine becuase the family and names were the same. I didn’t have to switch gears too terribly much. A good beach read. I would recommend this to any readers that love the cheesy hallmark vibes. I would read more by this author for sure.

This wasn't my usual type of book to read and it was hard to stay interested in it. It started to feel like something just to pass the time. I liked some of the characters though.

Too much verbage given to worry and care. Boring, skimmable, but nice characters and setting.

Grabbed this at the cutest discount bookstore, not realizing it was basically the very end of a series! Fortunately, I don't feel like I have to shelve this until I read books 1-4, since it appears to be reasonably self-contained.
