Definition, A large unidentified organic mass that washes up on the shoreline of an ocean or other body of water. After a fierce storm, a mysterious creature has washed up, apparently dead, on the shores of Seal Cove, an isolated coastal town in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. The new discovery is later transferred to a large vacant pool located at the nearby defunct college where marine biologist Michael Keating hopes to decipher what it is. Later at night, the creature emerges from its dormant stage, transforming into something monstrous.  Filled with quirky local characters and a lanky, Goth book store owner, formally of New York City, the residents must rely on each other and their limited resources if they are to survive the raw October night and the flesh-eating predator that has made Seal Cove its hunting ground.

Not sure

I'm not sure what to say about this book. I gave it a three and a half stars for originality but it is full of cliches and puns. It is not a typical Creature Feature but was enjoyable nonetheless. There are some parts of gor but not the blood Fest one would expect. I did enjoy it and I will probably read it again. Good for a light-hearted afternoon.

TL;DR: You can skip this one

There is maybe 150 pages of decent creature feature buried in this book, but the final product is such a terrible mish-mash of overly long and non-essential descriptions of things that I ultimately had to DNF this thing about 170 pages in (which was a slog to reach) and just skimmed the rest of the book.

The best way I can describe this, is that’s it’s like the omniscient narrator and all the characters have ADHD and are constantly getting sidetracked by weird tangents and adding meaningless detail to everything. The book is so padded with unnecessary descriptions about the people and places in the book. I don’t need a two page description, scattered over 100 pages of text, about the eating habits and home life of a guy who is has two lines of dialogue and then gets turned into monster chow.

Speaking of the monster, I liked the ideals of this deep-sea prehistoric amphibian thing, but it takes over half the book to get to the point where it becomes actively engaged in the story, and then it immediately metamorphoses into “big dumb lizard #29”. There might be an explanation as to why it does this, but I can’t slog through to the end king enough to find out.

I can’t say with any certainty that this is the author’s first book. It has the same cover art, and the name references a location in this version of the story, but this one is about 100 pages longer. It still has that first novel feel to it, but it’s like the author added extra empty filling to the story, but failed to do anything to improve the pace or tone of the narrative.

This book read like a movie happening on screen a bit too far away to be really engaging.

- there were far to much trivial and far too detailed info that didn't add to the plot, characters or suspense
- Action with the creature was not suspenseful and few and far between
- Characters kept acting in between as if nothing really bad or scaring had happened
- at one point the children are described as being frightened but at no point did they act like it. Contradictions like this pulled me out of the story

However,
- the build up in the story worked for the most part and the first couple of kills were engaging like in a horror movie
- Kids were not annoying (maybe because they didn't acr like their age?)
- the characters had personality and their banter was interesting if not misplaced in the context
- I was actually kind of impressed of how much trivial info the author could cram into the flow of the story - even while characters were being hunted

As the story progressed I got the feeling that maybe the story was meant as a fun horror movie. A bit tremors mixed with the goonies. The ending kind of confirmed this. It could have worked but unfotunately it didn't quite get there. If it was made into a movie I definitely could see it work.

When is Globster II coming out ??

This is a great monster romp. Good for a summer night or quarantined day. It reminds me of several old movies from the 1950's many of which are mentioned. The characters consists of a Pinniped {look it up} expert and his family who are restoring an old light house (always a great setting) There is a cast of towns folk, a pair of silly constables- Oh it's in Canada - a couple of kids wiser than the adults, also a " John Wayne" hero, who is the local priest. What can I say. As An old time horror flick affectionato, I laughed I cried, never throw a rock at a maybe dead something. Really don't do it. I want a lobster roll...:-)

Humor and horror...loved it!

Love the Seal Cove folks...a small community who enjoy the day to day life of fishing, studying seals, and anything in between. When an unknown big blob washes up on the beach, the community has to band together to make sure the creature is dead and move it to an old swimming pool. Then, they have to band together to stay alive. This story has all the ingredients for a great book including humor, horror and lots of great characters. I loved it and I am hoping for a sequel.

I enjoyed this book- it was a 3.5 for me. I really enjoy monster books and this one has an interesting, original monster. The characters are okay- if a bit too corny for my tastes. My primary dislike is the lack of any explanations about the creature itself- what IS it? Where did it come from? I would recommend for readers that don't want a lot of details or perhaps a YA. Overall, I'm glad I read this one.

A great story

Monsters from the sea. WOW. A scary and horrifying story with normal reaction from the humans to a horrifying monster in their mist. Loved it
