The Best Chance is a novella. It is a still apart of the Amherst Sinners Series and counted as book #4. It can be read as a complete standalone.
HUNTER I was unwavering. I'm handcuffed to who I'm supposed to be. I'm the guy you don't take a chance on. I'm the guy who has all the best intentions and none of the graceful follow through. I'm the guy your dad hates and your mom still fantasizes about during their stale moments of passion. At least, I used to be all of those things until the girl I loved from a safe distance decided I was too much of risk. I used to be all those things until I saw Addi’s poisonous red lips taunting me to hurt a little bit more. She had been chewed up and spit out by everyone who was supposed to love her. A girl full of destructive risks was going to make me the best chance she ever took.
ADDILEIGH I used to vie for my parents approval, I never wished my perfect sister any good wishes, and let the voice of insecurities become a bitch. I'm no longer her shadow of imperfection. I'm the girl you want a wild night with even when I giggle and tell you I'm not that kind of girl. I'm the girl who has a chip on my shoulder, filler in my lips, and a master list of all the corrupt things I want to try before I die. Get drunk at a college party? Check. Sleep with a married man? Check. Fall in love? That is going to be the most corrupt thing I have ever done. Convince someone to love me, every rotten part.
Elena Monroe grew up in Florida scribbling down stories from a very young age. These stories were really just wavy lines filling the paper, but she knew each word, each emotion, each character's name, and there was no tricking her into forgetting what each line signified. Just like her unconventional way of writing as a toddler Elena is setting her own rules and just telling stories.
Much like her debut novel, The Best Years, life certainly imitated art. Transplanting from the South to the East Coast, Elena currently lives in Connecticut with her husband, reformed bad boy.

Hunter and Addi were two broken pieces of the same heart. They weren’t good people in the conventional way but their complexity and vulnerability made them human. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I enjoyed her unapologetic style.
The plot hooked me. Ms. Monroe did a good job of filling in some of the key events of previous books so I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. The pace was good.
This is by no means a “safe” book. It pushes at the comfort zone and does so liberally.
Complementary copy received and voluntarily reviewed.
--"She fit comfortably into my life, not asking me to change or conceal the parts she disliked. I was myself, and Addi was willing to match my middle finger in the air to anyone who didn’t like me."--
Me too Hunter, me fucking too ❤❤😍
The Best Chance by Elena Monroe is a novella in the Amherst Sinners Series.
This is a story about two people who are not perfect. They are raw, real and gritty. They have insecurities, are broken in their own ways and have made mistakes, but they own those mistakes with a level of authenticity that is unapologetic. Hunter and Addi were pegged as villians in their own stories, they were selfish at times, gaurded but loyal to the few people they did let in.
Hunter is a character who in the Amherst Sinners series was an outsider, a criminal, straight forward and was used as a crutch. In the best chance he is dealing with residual feelings of everything that had happened in the past 5 years while he had been with Layla, the new direction his work is taking and figuring out how to deal with Addi and their ever changing relationship. I liked how he stayed true to his character while also growing throughout the story in a realistic way. I was already a fan of Hunter before this story but I'm defitinely even more of a fan now and loved delving deeper into his mind and seeing what he was truly about.
Addi was a character we didn't get too much of prior to this novella as she was a later addition to the Amherst Sinners Series. She was vulnerable yet sure of herself, naive at times but super resilent. There is a lot more to her than her looks, she is witty, smart and more complex than she appears. I loved her character and how she never gave up on Hunter and kept pushing to show him how she truly cares and how they just need to give each other a chance.
This novella had heart, steam, understanding, a bit of danger and so much hope. The story fit so well for Hunter and Addi and I enjoyed it a lot and there were quite a few laugh out loud moments especially when Hunter met Addi's family, producing possibly my fav one liner from my fav non Sinner. I also loved the lil sneak peak into Caden's upcoming story and I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED FOR IT.
The Best Chance comes out on Jan 7th 2020

Were you ever that person that had someone you didn't want to be with anymore yet didn't want him to be with anyone else either? Sadly, I WAS that person. It seems I feel that way with Hunter also. I adore his unrequited love of Layla. If there was no Oliver then she would've been with Hunter, I think. Plus, Addy was NOT my favorite person...At all. At first, I wasn't sure I would like this book because of those silly feelings of mine but then Elena Monroe worked her magic and I fell back in love. This story was sad, sexy and sweet. It's all I wanted for my beloved Hunter. ❤
I wanted Hunter’s book so bad from the time we first met him, simply because I couldn’t decide if he was truly a villain or just caught in the mix of something bad. My heart though! Monroe put me through it with him, and finally, she gave him Addileigh.
Addi needs him just as much as he needs her, they simply aren’t balanced or whole alone. “𝑀𝓎 𝓈𝑜𝓊𝓁 𝓌𝒶𝓈 𝓈𝒾𝓃𝑔𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒶 𝒷𝑒𝒶𝓊𝓉𝒾𝒻𝓊𝓁𝓁𝓎 𝒷𝓇𝑜𝓀𝑒𝓃 𝓈𝑜𝓃𝑔 𝐼 𝒸𝑜𝓊𝓁𝒹 𝓅𝓊𝓉 𝑜𝓃 𝓇𝑒𝓅𝑒𝒶𝓉 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝓈𝓌𝒶𝓎 𝓉𝑜. 𝐼 𝒸𝒶𝓂𝑒 𝓉𝑜 𝓁𝑜𝓋𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓂𝑒𝓁𝑜𝒹𝓎.”
This was unputdownable. I finally am at peace with The Amherst Sinners...... well for now.
I really love this series, and this novella is a great addition !!! I love how this author has blurred the lines between right and wrong / acceptable and unacceptable and makes the people that are involved relatable and lovable. Until now I didn’t like hunter . I couldn’t get past The sinners opinion of him . I was firmly on their side . But this book shows another side of him . And his side of the story . And although I first wished that we saw this earlier in the series I think the timing is perfect . I now like hunter . Yes he’s a criminal and he is far from perfect but he’s protective and caring for those he cares about . He’s a hard shell with a soft centre . Addi is the same . She’s young and an actress that finds it fairly easy to switch between characters. She cares a lot about what people think of her and she has tried to mold herself into her own unique person . But in this story her journey is finding herself and learning to be happy within herself . And hunter helps her do this . Their story is far from a perfect romance. They are broken and they are comfortable with taboo criminal things . It was a great read ! I really enjoyed it and I’m really looking forward to Caden’s story next !!!
This book is a part of a series . I highly recommend reading the previous books first before this one for the story line and character relationships to make sense ! They are all great reads and well worth your time !!

Yes! It's here folks! The Best Chance is the 4th book in the Amherst Sinners series, even though technically hunter isn't a sinner. The book has these previous characters. I do recommend you read the first three books to know the full emotional toll of Hunter. This is Hunter and Addi's story and I think it's the BEST book in this series! I Floved it, so so much! I've had it bad for Hunter since the begging! He's had my heart and he totally was the door matt to Layla for too many years! That B///h never deserved his love! I loved Hunter and Addi's friendship in the third book, you just knew something amazing was coming! These are two characters that have been burned by love and are just trying to keep fooling themselves! I think they were life's gift to each other after all the heartache they have endured, all the Unrequited Love. Their story is real and raw! Be ready to have your emotions put through the wringer and your heart bleed. Hunter and Addileigh were so wonderfully perfect for each other! Both are confident, selfish, and full of trouble, they are also two of the most insecure characters you will ever read...insecure is not the right word, they both feel so undeserving and believe in suffering for their sins.
"..what we were doing took two people to build this two-way street. Requited. Mutual. Reciprocated." "Two villains falling in love? That was something too diabolical and that would upset the greater balance. We both deserved second best as penance for our sins."
I loved these two characters so much and the way they loved each other was beautiful! Their story will overwhelm you with emotion and consume you with hope! I loved Hunter's need to start s**t at the end of the story, it was exactly what I would expect from this series. Monroe doesn't disappoint when it comes to drama! I loved our ending epilogue of sweet danger! Oh, my heart! I'm very interested in seeing what will come for Caden. Very happy with this book and the way his story was written, it's not overwhelmed with conflict or as angsty as the previous books. But the level of emotion is just as strong. A wonderful way to end 2019 with this Five-star read! I received an Arc in exchange for an honest review.
The whole concept of sinners and criminals and this group of individuals who all have their own shit and issues they’re going through really appeals to me. And for a novella, TBC was really great. I’ve always wanted to see more from Hunter and this didn’t disappoint. Personally I’m not too keen on Addi but she grew on me and I really enjoyed seeing her growth with Hunter.
As far as writing and story telling, I feel like this is Elena’s best work yet, the writing was really smooth and was executed phenomenally. However, although there are chapter headings telling me what POV each chapter is from, I didn’t feel like there was a difference in tone of voice for each individual character. Each character storyline is obviously different and each characters tells their own through first person point of view but it felt like the same person was telling the story. There was no identifying tone to each character.
But overall, obviously this series is a favorite and I can’t wait to see more from these characters (especially Caden, he my bae).
The Best Chance by Elena Monroe is a novella in the Amherst Sinners Series. It’s an emotionally charged book, right from the start, complex, refreshing and original. Everything about this story was perfect– the evolving relationship and romance between Hunter&Addi, conflicts and love.
Now I have to read all books in this Amherst Sinners Series. I need to know and feel them all.
“Loving you will drive me mad, but you loving me? Gonna be all the therapy you ever need.” - Addi

This guy. Gahhhh. I never expected to like his story so much as I did. I mean I love Ollie, but Hunter he’s different in a very particular way. He’s the outsider, nor only from the Sinner’s but from his own family he always felt that way, even while being at his home town, and then he found her, Addi, this girl, I love her! She’s such a badass and always up for a fight..she built those walls to protect from heartache, hurt and being compared toward her sister, always the perfect one. Just like Hunter, always an outsider of her own life. These two are so perfect for each other, I don’t think Elena could have done a better job for his story. Like I said he was different and he deserved different, someone who connected immediately with him and understands him. Who could read him? I never expected the author to write all of the Sinner’s book but I can’t complain. From Ollie’s to Layla’s and Hunter’s and the stories were amazing and couldn’t love it more than I already do!
This stand alone novella with just right and wrapped up in a pretty bow. I honestly haven't read the entire series but I get the gist of things and what happened with some of the characters in the past.
Hunter, bad boy, the kind you're probably skectical to bring home to your parents. He's blunt, never one to mince words and a bit closed off but by the end he's wormed himself into my heart. Addi has spent her whole life living in her sister's Shadow and she wants nothing more to be her own.
These two are perfect for each other, they have done some unsavory things but they never pass judgment on each other and saw more to each other than meets the eye.
I will definitely have my eyes on Caden and I need to catch up with the other characters.
The Best Chance was an enjoyable read! I was on the fence with Hunter through all the Amherst Sinners stories, but getting a bit more of his story in TBC, l got to like him a bit more! I liked Hunter and Addileigh's journey two people meant for one another, perfect HEA!
He’s not a Sinner he’s a criminal. Criminals who are villains can fall in love. Let’s meet the villains. Hunter is the guy who sells drugs and was accused of raping Layla. Addi is the girl who had sex with a married professor. The Best Chance is about the favorite villainous couple Hunter and Addi. Addi is Elizabeth’s younger sister who was introduced in The Best Mistakes. Liz is the golden child that Addi is supposed to follow. Addi wants to carve her own path so she changes her body and attitude to suit her own needs. Hunter is the guy with a history of priors—prior mistakes, prior bouts with danger, prior time in juvie, and prior losses that resulted in sharing, until it ate my desire for love alive.
Elena gave Hunter and Addi there own story away from the Sinners. When they are isolated from all the Sinners they aren’t so villainous. We get the other side of Hunter that Layla didn’t get to see. He’s a traveling drug dealer with connections in LA, Florida, and Boston. Addi follows Hunter to LA hoping to make connections for her acting career. Instead she’s followed by an admirer from Amherst. These two weren’t my favorite characters, but I did appreciate the effort Elena put in to creating a love for them. Although, I wasn’t as invested in them. I do adore Elena’s writing style so I’m willing to give it a go. If she writing it I’m reading it. I’m still trying to process Hunter and Addi. I don’t feel the connection or quite understand it. For me I didn’t need closure on Hunter or Addi. I didn’t even need Liz and Leon’s story. I do want Caden’s story which is next.
Hunter finally gets is day in the spotlight. Always on the outside of the sinner’s he’s been coasting along until a spitfire comes out of left field and knocks his socks off. In true Elena fashion all her books have a different feel even though a continuation of a story line. I love it because you never get bored. This novella is a wild ride of a two kids thinking they are a modern day Bonnie and Clyde. Sweet moments, wtf moments and ongoing moments are all present abs ready to low your socks off in this fast paced rebels love story!
To be truthful, I had to stop-start reading this as Hunter and Addie were not my fav characters in this series. They were both seriously damaged and at times didn't understand the reasoning for doing what they did for example Addie sleeping with married men 🤷♀️ I just kept thinking they're so toxic and self-destructive for each other yet the need they have to have someone for themselves is super strong.
I much prefer Elena's Horsemen Series, that's more up my reading lane.
I really enjoyed this book, being able to finally see Hunter and Addi - their on off relationship and the twists and turns in their life. It was great to see how their upbringing had impacted who they are today. Also great to see the other Sinners in this book. Really enjoyed the ending and looking forward to the next book
This was a perfect novella! I’ll admit, I was skeptical about this novella, because Hunter and Addi got under my skin about in the other books. But this novella was perfect! We got to see so much more that just surface level when it came to Addi and Hunter. See the vulnerabilities, the lust, the insecurity, the anger and the love.
Hunter was always a mystery to me. He was all bad boy pining after the good girl. He deserved happiness too and he found it with Addi. She’s just as broken to the core as Hunter. Can they help put each other back together?! Everyone deserves happiness, and we might not find it where we think. Loved this book! Can’t wait for Caden’s story!
I like Hunter and till this day, I don't think he did what they all say. Plus gor Layla to be with him for five years what does that really say. As for Addi i tried to like het like really tried but I can't sleeping with a marked man who has kids I can't get on board with that. I just don't like her. I can't wait for Caden book!
REally good, I didn't knew any of the characters and I loved the story, sadly was too short. (But I won't read the previous ones since I didn't like any of the good guys XD)
It took me a very long time to read this book. At first I wasn’t hooked and leave it for more than a year. And than I started to read it and finished it in one day. Guess I wass missing the Sinners... Hunter is something totaly diffrent. But at the end I like him. A lot. Good book.
-“She chose to love and loss than love someone with my history. The worst part? I still couldn't hate her.”
Three books and countless times I just wanted to scream at Elena and Hunter finally got his own book. I’m not even sure if she planned to write his story but I think this is one of the best examples of a story evolving into something so much more than you could ever imagine. Where the characters take on a life of their own and the next thing you know the pot smoking ‘bad boy’ is getting his own book.
- “I have a history of priors. Prior mistakes, prior bouts with danger, prior time behind a heavy door for juvenile youth who can’t pray the trouble away, and prior loses that resulted in sharing”
Hunter was always second best when it came to Layla. I shipped them so hard and I’m not even sorry for it. I truly didn’t want him to end up with someone else.... until I did. We first met Addi in The Best Mistakes and it wasn’t the ‘best’ impression. She was sleeping with her married professor, slightly immature and a whole mess of trouble. But as the layer of Addi’s personality melted off much life her layers of makeup, you began to see the vulnerable young girl underneath just begging to be loved for who she was.
In true Elena fashion she drops us right into the middle of Hunter and Addi’s story... Los Angeles to be specific. In a whirlwind trip filled with handcuffs, busted noses, stalkers, and a trip to Las Vegas, Hunter and Addi slowly learn to not only love one another, but themselves too.
-“You want to be born without hope but no one truly loses all sense of hope. It's just buried down deep, I’ll dig it up.”
The Best Chance isn’t a story of redemption, neither Hunter nor Addi want to be redeemed. No, this is a story of two broken people holding their hearts together by fragile slips of string hoping the rest of the world won’t cut what is left. Thrust together by happen chance they heal each other’s wounds and glue up the cracks of their hearts to be perfectly imperfect in the end. After all Addi said it best....
-“Addison! Addison! Who's your date?” “The best chance I ever took.”
I have been a fan of this series from book one and Hunter is a character I will openly admit I have not liked from his first appearance in ‘The Best Years’, so I was intrigued to see where his story would go as he was given a raw deal from Layla.
His story starts with him and Addileigh going to LA for a ‘business’ trip. Addi is more into him and wants to prove this to Hunter. When their story started I was so intrigued to where it would go, Hunter the ‘bad guy’ was going in proper deep, something I wasn’t sure suited his character, but I loved Addi tagging along trying to show Hunter she could be there from him and trusted.
From the start of this book I was sucked right into his story. There were many times my heart went to him. I completely felt for him, he was judged badly by others and himself, but I came to realise the hard, not give a damn exterior was all a front, he had feelings and sometimes quite sensitive. I loved his protectiveness and his overall confidence and he was a funny guy, one part in particular had me laughing my head off.
I liked Addi’s character, she was fun, quirky and could handle herself. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t connect to her and didn’t feel a connection between her and Hunter. I would have liked more of a friends to lovers story, with Hunter opening up to her better.
This was an enjoyable read though and one I devoured in one sitting. There are cameos from previous characters and an insight into the next book in the series - Caden’s story!
I would recommend reading the previous three books before this one.

This definitely can not be read as a standalone there so much background story you need so you your not lost. Although the book has great story line but I was so lost.
I received an ARC in exchange of my honest review.
This is Hunter and Addi's story. If you haven't read the previous books in this series (just like me) then you are in for huge spoilers. I didn't know who Hunter or Addi were and what their role was in the previous books. So it was my first ever Elena Monroe book and it's safe to say that it's not gonna be my last one. I loved this book and was thinking the entire time why I haven't read Elena Monroe's books earlier. I was very pleasantly surprised to have liked it as much as I did and I definitely recommend it to romance lovers who prefers broody alpha heroes with a soft heart and a girl desperately in need of love.
Firstly, this Novella is pretty short(14 Chapters to be exact) but the story was not excuted in a hurry or the author didn't make it feel like a race to the finishing line. It was a perfect conclusion to Hunter and Addi's love story and was a very well timed book. The story , the characters, the chemistry between Hunter and Addie and their unusual arrangement made this book an absolute page turner. I couldn't put it down and I loved both Hunter and Addi's characters - of how both of these lonely people found each other amidst an unnatural circumstance and fell in love. These two complemented each other very well. There wasn't any doubt in my mind that they were perfect for each other.
I highly recommend this one. It's one of the best books I have read so far this year. I am really curious about Oliver and Layla's story too. If you are a fan of the #The Amherst Sinners series , then Hunter and Addi's story will be the perfect read for you. Also the chemistry between these two is something to read about. So be ready for these two as TBC releases on 7th Jan. Stay tuned.

3,5/5 🌟 The Best Chance By Elena Monroe
Two lost souls that somehow have found safety in each other .
When I started reading this book I didn’t know that The Amherst Sinners series was prior to this book and even though Hunter doesn’t form part of the sinners he is very much involved within the plot in the series. Since I haven’t read the Sinners serie I will just review the book as an standalone .
Hunter Bad boy , drug dealer , rude and to top it is still in love with his ex kind of girlfriend. He is on his way to California for a major drug affair and has brought Addie with him since she is good company after all , that’s what he keeps telling himself.
Addie Living a facade everything about her is fake, hair, nails, tan, boobs all of this just so she doesn’t look like her family . A family that has neglected her for years . She is the mistress of her married much older professor and in a hookup relationship with Hunter whom she is falling for.
I really liked the story and even thought I hadn’t read the books prior to this one the author manages to tie the story together . Loved the heroine, she is all feisty a bit bitchy and despite of all just perfect. I also liked that the book started with Hunter being in love with someone else since it gave the story a whole different plot .

This is my first time reading anything from this author, and I was not disappointed. This book is a standalone, but their are 3 books previous to this one, that I think would have filled in some background, and I will definitely be going back to read them. This is the fourth book in The Amherst Sinners series, and the story of Hunter, and Addileigh, both these characters have had been through their own personal heart break, that has molded them into the people they are. When they get together, they have a special connection, and they accept one another flaws, and all. This was a great read, dark, intense, emotional, raw, gripping, dramatic, passionate, and steamy! This is a must read!
I'm not usually a huge fan of types of H/h that Hunter & Addileigh were, but I LOVE me some Elena Monroe, so I had to read it. The Best Chance is listed as a novella in the Amherst Sinners (a series that I crave big time), but it seemed perfect in length in my opinion. Hunter has always seemed like a tortured soul, and I kept wondering if he was just misunderstood or really the role he perfected. And Ms. Monroe put me through the emotional paces with his journey. Plus, there's Addi, and not going to lie, she had to grow on me. Thankfully, she did, as she developed into a heroine that I can get behind, but like Hunter, she absolutely didn't come off well at first, however, once I truly felt her pain, it felt like I was punched in my gut. Yeah, I know, I'm not giving details away, but I don't want to color anyone else's opinion of this story which is full of so many layers that it's truly beautiful. So, I'm keeping this review short & sweet, so just hit that one click button to find out what happened, what's happening, and what will happen! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
