This had a lot of interesting ideas and great recommendations in here. I'm grateful to have read it and I'm excited to try a version of the SAVERs out in my future classroom.
First of all, I’m familiar with the Miracle Morning process, as I’ve read the original Miracle Morning book and have been practicing it consistently for a little over a year now. I do believe it is life-changing and I was excited to read The Miracle Morning for Teachers so I could share MM with my teaching staff. Teaching is an extremely stressful career and I believe teachers have a great need for strategies to navigate this to protect their mental & physical health so they can be their best for students.
Having said all that, I did feel the beginning of the book was overwhelming. There is A Special Invitation from Hal: The MM Community, the foreword, then A Note from Hal, then A Note from Honoree, then an Introduction and Overview. Whew! All of this would be too much, I think, for someone unfamiliar with the Miracle Morning. It was way too much information.
The book itself is a great read and, I believe, a valuable resource for schools to have. It gives teachers step-by-step instructions on how to begin their personal MM and with the teacher testimonials scattered throughout the book, how to use the Miracle Morning with students. I liked that these stories represented different types of classrooms and grade levels.
It’s also thought- provoking in a way that makes you really want to spend time exploring where you are and where you want to be, both personally and professionally. I was very impressed that the book included current issues in education. Specifically, the challenges of students with significant Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s). It was realistic in acknowledging not all students come to school with the social-emotional skills, parental support, or foundational learning that are needed to succeed in school and life.
Finally, I was pleased the book included quality resources and references for educators, both outside of the Miracle Morning community and within. This speaks to two beliefs Hal Elrond expresses often- that the Miracle Morning and the LIFE S.A.V.E.R.S. can help you live your best life and that community is an important component of not only being our best, but positively affecting the world at large.
I’ve read The Miracle Morning, so I was excited to read this version for teachers. I taught in the US for 10 years before moving to England where I now teach. Although the MM is a worldwide phenomenon, this book is definitely pitched at US teachers. I intend to incorporate this with my form (like a homeroom) who I see everyday, but my other classes I don’t see nearly as much, so it will be tricky to figure out a way to incorporate (one class I only see twice a fortnight). The authors should have included teachers from outside the US when trialling with teachers or should consult on future editions. Also, it is obvious the author is not a teacher as some of the suggestions aren’t practical (sending notes home in a student’s lunchbox?).
This is a plan to follow to harvest the daily miracles available for individual and collective improvement and growth at various phases. Life come in phases, and S.A.V.E.R.S application changes lives-ask the teachers and those that live it. I recommend this book for success seekers.
Hal Elrond is definitely on to something with his Miracle Morning S.A.V.E.R.S. I am not sure if I am going to be able to consistently wake up early, but I am definitely going to try after reading this book. He gives some great tips on how to get started.
The book has a lot to offer and think about. Aspects of application to teaching seemed to fit the elementary world more than secondary. I would be interested to see the difference between this book and Miracle Morning.
Very helpful. I guess I'm not the kind of person who enjoys this kind of book that much, but I extracted the most practical aspects and applied them. It has changed the way a look at things.
This just reiterates something that a lot of us (especially teachers) forget: you have to take care of yourself before you can help and take care of others.
I liked the Morning Miracle framework, but all the teaching stuff was nothing new. Plus, the author isn't a teacher, so she doesn't have a lot of credibility with the "how to be a great teacher" parts.
