A.G. Carothers’ The Kiss is a sensual and erotic story of two men who push aside the constraints of labels and find exactly what they need. After years of relationships and play partners, neither man has been able to bond emotionally or have their sexual needs met. The journey they forge together is an example of what can happen when each partner honestly asks for what they need, and reflects the intimacy that results when they make this connection.

Liam is asexual. He has a platonic relationship with his female scene partner, and while he enjoys the thrill of pain, their scenes leave him unaroused and unfulfilled. Liam also longs for more intense impact play. After observing a demonstration by Gavin Hightower, a gay dominant with incredible skills with whips and floggers, Liam knows he has to approach this compelling man.

Burned by straight men before, Hightower refuses Liam’s initial request for a scene. When Liam approaches him again, Hightower can’t deny he is attracted physically and there are aspects of Liam’s reactions which intrigue him. Resisting the urge to constrain Liam to the restrictive labels of his profile, Hightower gives Liam an opportunity and both men are stunned by their reactions to each other.

I enjoy A.G. Carothers’ writing style. They pulled me in right away with expressive descriptions, interesting details, and well-developed characters. In very short order we really get to know both of these men. Told with alternating points of view, they don’t hold anything back and I love seeing each man’s thoughts along the way.

This talented author has won me over with their skill at writing intense, erotic, and intimate scenes with emotionally charged relationships. These characters are fascinating and there are several moments which take place off page which I’d love to see Carothers explore should they turn The Kiss into a full-length novel.

If you enjoyed this hot little story in the Come Play anthology, I urge you to try this retelling of The Kiss. Revised and expanded from its original publication, this version delves more deeply into Liam and Hightower’s relationship, as well as what each of them are thinking and feeling along the way. A.G. Carothers has remarkable insight into how both the top and bottom are processing their experiences and they make the most of it in this novella.

3 and 1/2 stars. I didn’t care much for the beginning of this story. In fact, I almost DNF. But once Liam and Gavin got together I loved it.

Omg this was exactly what I desired with bdsm scenes
Two strong men, roles clear, heavy impact, scenes with beautiful dominance and submissions, but even more maybe the care and the many feelings involved.

Liam can’t get into the right headspace. He’s not looking for love but wants to find the right ride. He gets an advice from a Dom to approach Dom Gavin for heavy impact with a bully of a whip. He can find him once a month at the Men’s Night Event.
Liam try to approach the dominant man and failed somewhere the first time to gain a scene.

What follows later on is too great to capture in words... gosh it was everything.
Some words maybe, trust, awe, care, erotic, sensuality, love.

When you love some excellent written bdsm relationship story read this!
For me this could be written as an endlessly continuation.

Highly recommended!

A kiss is not just a kiss

Wow! This novella packs quite the sensual punch. Liam and Gavin are both searching for something that’s missing in their lives. What they find is unexpected yet wholly beautiful. “He was everything I didn’t know I needed.” I love Liam’s design work and his sense of humor, and how Gavin takes care of Liam. But best of all are the lovely possibilities they find with each other.

I found the explanations of the various terms very helpful and they put me in the right mindset. I very much enjoyed the ending with the author’s reflection. I found their honesty brave and refreshing. A very sexy read that will leave you panting for more.

This was sweet, with some damn sexy elements, but there was way too much skimmed over, or time-jump and recapped, to get invested in the story too deeply. That kind of writing just doesn’t work for me, it tends to keep me at arms length from a story. YMMV.

Steele is a masochist who is no longer able to satisfy his needs in the way he has done so far. To rediscover the balance between pain and pleasure, he decides to ask for help from the whip wielding expert Hightower, who attends the same BDSM club as him. Unfortunately, the man refuses to help, but Steele don't want to give up, and his stubbornness turns out to have some unexpected effects.

"The Kiss" is a BDSM novella written by A.G. Carothers, which was originally published in "Come Play" anthology. However, it was shorter then and it differed a little bit from the version we have the opportunity to read now. Nevertheless, the first of the advantages of this novella remains unchanged, because the main characters are really worthy of our interest. There's no doubt that Steele is the character I like the most, as he's perfect thanks to his imperfect appearance. Let's be honest, we've gotten used to the characters with bodies of young gods, while in "The Kiss" we see a man who's a little more "rounded" here and there, and what's more, hairy, while he's definitely missing some hair on his head. Yes, Steele is undoubtedly charming, because of his ordinariness.

Another thing I'd like to write about is Steele's sexuality. I admit that at the beginning I regretted that the author didn't develop this topic and didn't go deeper into it, but I quickly realized one really interesting thing. Namely, in everyday life not everyone is willing to think deeply about their feelings. Some just accept everything as it is without unnecessary complications. In "The Kiss", the lack of self-analysis is simply something normal and understandable, which makes this story more believable. That's why it's also a plus of this novella. Admittedly, this is an advantage that you have to come to terms with, because our human curiosity really wants to be satisfied, but the fact that Steele is not labeled in any way really suits this character.

The thing that distinguishes the first version of the short story from the novella the most is the fact the story has been enriched with events that develop the protagonists' relationship, show more precisely Hightower's character and cement the relationship between Steele and Hightower. To put it briefly, in "The Kiss" we have some elements that make this novella a romance, as feelings between the protagonists flourish, while originally it was more about a need to satisfy different desires and curiosity. This is undoubtedly a good thing as it satisfies our need for romance.

In summary, "The Kiss" is a novella that is really worth reading. Mature, serious characters will undoubtedly appeal to the readers, as will a rather sweet, very interesting story. In short, I recommend it.

_______________________

„The Kiss” jest nowelką BDSM autorstwa A.G.

Kolejna sprawa to seksualność Steele’a.

Podsumowując, „The Kiss” jest nowelką, którą naprawdę warto przeczytać. Dojrzali, poważni bohaterowie niewątpliwie przypadną nam do gustu, podobnie jak dosyć słodka, bardzo interesująca historia. Mówiąc krótko, polecam.

What a great fast reading enjoyable short story about a sub looking for more, after seeing a whip demo at the club Steele decided that it might be just what he needs to try, so he approached Hightower, as they start spending time together, maybe they can find what they both have been searching for.

I received a free copy to read and review for Wicked Reads

This short novella really packed a punch for so few pages. Liam and Gavin were beautiful together, they define what I imagine a couple would be who has their kinks. I just wish it was longer. I love how the author told their story, it made me feel what Liam and Gavin were feeling and being connected made the story more powerful.

Once again AG takes us to a world few dare to visit. Some cant even speak it's name. But we are shown that it isn't violent. It isn't right, it isn't wrong. The tenderness that develops between a Dom and a sub is as real as any other type of "Real" relationship. He take the reader there and you see the love that develops, grows and flourishes. Any who judge have no knowledge of real love, trust and commitment. AG shows that it does exist and it can be beautiful.
Thank You Drac. You are a great friend and mentor. You show us all the true meaning of Love.
Great Read. Highly recommended. But of course. That's a Duh! Thanks again my friend.

Why is it so short?? 😭😭😭
I feel like you can tell when an author has lived experience in BDSM because everything just comes across much more viscerally. It's less romanticized and more realistic while still showcasing like the beauty of BDSM.

This book has a dual POV between an asexual primal masochist and a gay dominant. When I walked into this book I didn't realize that it had ace rep and I was very pleasantly surprised to see it done extremely well and in a way that doesn't erase the characters asexuality. Liam is into his forties I believe and knows that he doesn't feel sexual attraction but there are elements of kink that involve some sexual activity that he is okay with. I think this is a really important conversation to have in regards to both the asexual community and also the kink community. Kinky relationships do not have to be sexual and it was kind of nice to see the different elements of how Liam's asexuality played into his different scenes.

Honestly this book is just too short. There is some beginning stuff where they negotiate a first sienn a but then there's some time jumps and they're dating I guess? While I am 100% here for asexual kinky romance books, I needed this to be twice as long if not even longer. I would still recommend it but please be aware that it is heavily dominated by kink scenes including heavy impact play.

This was my first book of A.G. and I surely was not disappointed. Although being a short story it felt like a book. Soo much was covered in this novella. Liam is a blacksmith and metal sculptur and has been part of the BDSM scene for a while. And although he has done many scenes he never felt aroused or needed sex. But lately he feels something is missing in his life. He has seen the man they call Hightower doing scenes with his whips and he is fascinated by it. One night he brings up the courage to walk up to the man and asks for a scene. Gavin Hightower is a wel out and proud police captain and in his spare time doing scenes in the local BDSM club. But when Liam asks him to do a scene he tells him no. He has done a scene with a straight man years ago but it didn't end well. But both men are feeling the attraction and Gavin is prepared to give Liam a chance and see where it will lead. What they both didn't expect to find is love. They fit eachother perfectly with Liam being the submissive and Gavin the Dom. I now want to read Able's story.

5+ stars for this novella! A.G. Carothers left me wanting even more from this world in the best sense. It’s original and absolutely captivating. This grabbed my attention and never let go.

Despite being a novella, the character development is among the best I’ve seen. The way the characters grew and found themselves and each other really resonated with me. The chemistry between the main characters was off the chart hot. Not only that but the secondary characters were fully developed as well. The author’s world building was exceptional and I hope they continue giving more stories from this.

I have to address the storyline on two levels. The first is the overall arc and the way it pulled me in. The author flawlessly weaved magic that made me connect immediately with the story. It truly was a journey despite the length. I also want to mention a very important point. This is one of the most respectful and accurate BDSM books I’ve read. While it wasn’t all kinks I enjoy I loved the novella because of how the author went about it. Aside from that, I appreciate how A.G. Carothers gave such a look into the complexity of people and sexuality. It spoke to me on such a deep level that I can only note how grateful I am for these words.

5+ stars for unconventional and mesmerizing words!

I read this first when it was a short story in a give away, and I loved the chemistry between the two, their first meetings and the different approach to testing Liam's submission.
There is so much heat in every interaction, and it kept me glued to the pages from start to finish, leaving me starved from more.
It's almost too short still, I had the need to read every detail of their conversations that was cut short as they got to know each other. And to read about Liam's primal side.

This is a wonderful short book that is completely captivating. It is hotter than the sun but also beautiful in the way that it describes Steele finding his power in submission. An absolute must read for BDSM m/m fans.

I just finished The Kiss. I really thought it was going to be too short to get the story truly developed but nope. The sex wasn't overwhelming but it is one of the most erotic books I've ever read. The romance wasn't overwhelming either but it's one of the sweetest books I've read in a long long time. Liam and Gavin fit so well together. That is the kind of dom/sub relationship I want.

Loved the additional scenes

First read as part of the come play anthology, was my favourite story
Since I'm on the asexual spectrum I can relate in part to Liam
Thing I love about the book the most is knowing that Liam has been an active bdsm member, having nonsexual play, a lot of books then to say bdsm and jump straight to the sex or scenes.

I loved this. I loved everything about it. Both Liam and Gavin were magnetic characters. They drew me in a never let me go.

Liam was initially an enigma. I didn’t quite know what he wanted. Turns out, he wasn’t sure either until he met Gavin. I was so glad he was willing to try something new with Gavin. It turned out wonderfully. Gavin was confident and in control, yet, at times, you could read the vulnerability in him. It was delightful.

I also felt the authenticity of this book deeply. The author clearly has love for the BDSM community and it bleeds through every page. I love how the community was portrayed throughout. The standards and safety measures. Safe, sane and consensual. It was wonderfully refreshing to read. 5 stars for me.

*I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest review.

A great D/s story that would have been a 5 star read if there had been more showing, not telling. It was so frustrating when they got together for a weekend, and then we're told the weekend was great. What? Where? How? I want to know more!

Liam is not looking for love or a sexual relationship. He wants a Dom who can give him the pain he craves, especially if it comes from the kiss of a whip. When Liam meets Gavin, he can't not submit to him. The attraction is there, even though Liam doesn't realize it initially. Gavin, too, is surprised by his attraction to Liam. I thought Liam's submission to Gavin was beautiful and powerful and it just came naturally. Even when Liam tried to call Gavin by his name, he couldn't. To him, Gavin would always be Sir.

A very blunt and intense story within a BDSM club, made my jaw drop now and then, but a good short-ish story. I've read a few BDSM stories, I've been ok with it but I halt at fisting, I cannot stand reading of it, it makes me shudder, although I'd never condemn a person's preferences, but fortunately it was glossed over here. Other than that, was a good read and an interesting tale. When I read a story in the first person I always seem to get their description wrong, a short while later, as a secondary takes over the narration and we get a description of the first person, I'm usually way off, and, BOY!!, was I wrong this time, I'm hopeless at this. But, never the less, this was a nice read

Fascinating but short

I loved Liam and Gavin together. The way they just fit was heartwarming, two older men who were looking for something... someone.... and unexpectedly found it in each other.
I was bemused by Liam's emotional and sexual development because he seemed to be asexual and aromantic in the beginning but meeting Gavin changed that almost overnight and the story was too short to adequately explain this. It was also too short because I wanted more of these two!
The glimpse into different aspects of the kink community was fascinating and I'm on to Abel's story next (and hoping for Gavin and Liam to show up too).

I enjoyed the depiction of the BDSM scene and the play. The sex scenes are very hot.
I just felt the characters where pretty flat. Especially Liam seemed a bit too fluid, like the author couldn't quite pin down on a personality for him.
I also found it weird that he is apparently asexual at the start and then falls into a sexual and romantic relationship so quickly. That's something that can work out in a longer book, here it just seemed like lazy writing.

Liam is floundering, lost in life.
He's looking for something, not sure of what that could be.
He approaches Gavin to do a scene with him and is promptly shut down.
As far as Gavin knows, Liam is straight and he's been there, done that and has the t-shirt and heartache to go with it.
Liam is persistent and Gavin finally agrees to a scene.
What follows is beautiful exploration of kink and the BDSM community as these two weary men find their perfect dance partner.

What a delight to read a BDSM book written by someone who actually has first-hand experience of the lifestyle! From the very beginning, you will understand that this story is not the result of thorough research, but on the contrary, the author takes the reader on a real-life experience, right next to the MC.

Solid beginning. Solid ending. And a middle that feels like the author got bored after a tour of Liam's house and skipped all the good stuff -- like developing the actual relationship between Liam and Gavin.

What is there is great. But I think that the genuine relationship development was lost in focusing on the kink instead.
