Haiku Rose

Rate this book
When Rose Edwards envisioned the story of her life in the role of aspiring author, she did not allow for a weak-willed main character and tragically unforeseen plot deviations. As she approaches the end of her third decade and finds herself love-deprived and under-employed, a reunion with her best friend from childhood, Florrie, gives Rose a new outlook. Florrie reminds her of a version of her younger self that she has neglected: she used to write and illustrate haikus. The discovery of an exciting new outlet for her poetry, Instagram, reawakens the simple pleasure of writing and drawing and helps Rose bloom anew. And that’s not the only valuable childhood talent that Florrie unearths in her.

When Rose returns to her wealthy hometown, a place she vowed she’d never live in again, she slowly realizes that her birthplace is ripe with some extremely comforting people and memories. As Rose uses poetry to bring beauty and meaning back into her life, she revives old friendships and forms some new ones, too.

Can Rose soothe her psychic wounds with the help of seventeen thoughtfully arranged syllables? And will rekindling her passion for verse set the stage for romance? Find out in this gently lyrical story about love, friendship, and beauty.

The book starts off with Rose Edwards going through a very difficult time. Walking in on your boyfriend cheating on you is bad, but losing your perfectly healthy mom to a stroke is devastating. Heartbroken for more than one reason and alone, Rose moves back home to put the pieces of her life back in order and to try to find peace without her mom’s guidance. Her dear friend, Florrie, suggests Rose take up writing poetry again and sharing them on Instagram. Rose is a little skeptical, but HaikuRose is born and Rose begins to feel a little less lonely. It’s not easy starting over, but with great friends (old and new) it doesn’t seem impossible.

Haiku Rose is one of the most relatable books I’ve read. While reading this book I kept thinking, ‘this book gets me!’ I started my bookstagram account to share my love of books with the hope of finding likeminded souls. Like Rose, I found such joy being a part of a community where the people are so positive, supportive, and just wonderful. Haiku Rose is a book I will cherish for the lessons it taught me and the smiles it gave me while reading.

A must read! I was initially intrigued by this book from the cover illustrations, the name of the book itself as well as the synopsis. Since I won it on a Goodreads giveaway, I've since devoured its contents and have found myself wanting to read more by this author. The story and main character is so relatable which makes this book perfect for just about anyone. I highly recommend this beautiful book!

I won this download in a Goodreads giveaway.

A solid three, not a rounded up three. With a light romance I want to fall in love right along with the main character. Maybe I am getting to old to fall in love with the characters anymore but I got why Rose fell in love. I thought it was good for a short little romance and I didn't notice any holes in the story.

I never read enough Haiku to ever really get the rhythm. I kind of could feel it after reading this book. I do wish the pictures had been there too.
