Wild Vet Adventures: Saving Animals Around the World written by Dr. Gabby Wild with Jennifer Szymanski
My oldest daughter just turned 9 and she's wanted to be a vet since she was 5. This stunning National Geographic Kids hardcover arrived just in time. She has always wanted to be a veterinarian and that VERY morning told me “I’m not sure if I want to be a wild vet or a vet like Dr. Z (our puppy Luna’s vet)”. This was such a perfect gift for her which she immediately shared with her little sisters. She felt especially special reading what Dr. Gabby Wild wrote specifically for her. Now all she’s been saying is that she wants to be a wild vet like Dr. Wild!
Our family cannot get enough of how wonderful it is to read about Dr. Wild’s life’s work traveling the globe to help & heal wildlife through the spectacular photographs & her explanations. The book is sectioned into different continents which I love. My children really loved learning about the different animals & her experiences.
We are displaying this book in the family room all the time. Not only to immerse ourselves in the photographs & incredible stories but as a reminder that our young daughters can be whatever they want to be. Strong, intelligent female leaders who can travel the world helping people or animals and protecting the globe.
A look at wild animals around the world, continent by continent. Each spread will give a brief intro to the animals, where they live, what they eat, and what their greatest threats are. Vet Gabby Wild shares a little tidbit about treating each animal, with occasional longer 2 page spread stories about specific animals she's treated, and occasional 2 page spreads of endangered animals from the same genus all over the world.
This reads like a selective encyclopedia of animals of the world with occasional vet notes and stories. Even though National Geographic has tons of these encyclopedia-like animal books out, they do a good job of making sure the selection of animals in each one is unique and the photos are all new. I like the little vet notes, which is a unique spin. I can see young wanna-be vets and animal lovers absolutely overjoyed with this book. It's a big oversized book, filled with fun facts and eye-catching photos.
Hannah is swinging from the trees!! She was so excited to receive this signed copy of Wild Vet Adventures from @dr.gabbywild and @natgeo!!! Hannah already knew about Dr. Gabby Wild and totally loves her and has aspirations of becoming a vet one day too. She even created animal bookmarks to match the animals that she learned about in this book.
Hannah’s Short and Sweet Review: This is a great book that talks about a day in the life of Dr. Gabby Wild and tells you about what different animals she has saved and Dealt with. My favorite animal is the tiger so I loved that her story gave me née information about tigers I didn’t already know. There are also super cool photos in this book. This is a great book that I can use for my reports at school too.
As a mother I loved that this was a book about a strong female who loves her job and is a great role model for my daughter.
