Pro hockey player Aaron Ferrar has shit luck with women. With one divorce, one psycho, and far too many one-night stands under his belt, he can’t seem to break his bad dating habits. He knows he’s not good enough for his sweet, sexy best friend, so he would never go there, but it’s getting harder and harder to resist her.
Veterinary assistant Sara Chandler has floundered since graduating from college. She left both academia and hockey behind, and now she’s a nanny for her best friend while working part-time at a local veterinary clinic until she gets into veterinarian school. She’s always been hot for her hockey-playing best friend, but she’s not in his league and she’s leaving Anchorage soon anyway.
When disaster strikes, Aaron doesn’t hesitate to jump in, but nothing is ever going to be the same for them. He doesn’t know how to help her and neither of them ever do things the easy way.
This spin-off of the Las Vegas Sidewinders series has carved its own corner on my ‘must re-read’ shelf! The writing style, the characters, the drama – each read is guaranteed to be a winner and Aaron and Sara’s was just that…
They were friends, good friends, even though Sara wished for more. Aaron’s romantic history was anything but quiet, however. I felt so bad for him, I really did. Even if that affected how he treated Sara. That all changed though when disaster struck and everyone, including Aaron, stepped up to help Sara. Closer proximity meant their attraction couldn’t be ignored any longer, that didn’t mean Aaron’s concerns or Sara’s career situation changed. Did I want to shake Aaron at times? Did I feel the pressure that Sara felt as she tried to figure out her own next steps? Did I suffer with both of them when it all blew up? Oh, I definitely did….
How they navigated it all, with friends at their backs of course, made for another entertaining, one-sitting read…
Kat Mizera is a newer author for me and this is my first visit to the Anchorage Blizzard hockey team and the world around them.
I enjoyed the set up of Saving Sara. Two people who have been good friends, had a romantic interlude gone wrong, and come back together in a time of need. Seeing them reconnect as friends then start a more in-depth relationship was sweet.
Sara was a character that I liked. She was relatively young, so some of her life confusion was expected. I appreciated the emotional growth she experienced and the way she embraced the decisions she made whole heartedly.
Aaron is a big reason why this is a 3.5 star read and not a 4 star read. His yo yo feelings for Sara and the way he handled them just didn’t ring true. Yes, he’s been burned before, but at 33 he should have learned a few things about how to handle a relationship and communication.
This book is fairly far along in the Blizzard series and we see who (I assume) are the previous stars of the series as key secondary characters. I think having read the full series would have made this a more enjoyable read. I am looking forward to going back and reading the previous stories and getting to know future Blizzard players better.
The Blizzard hockey team and their friends and family are almost like home now with the fifth book in this series. I've been waiting for Aaron and Sara's story. For years they have been best friends, but Sara is wanting something more and Aaron is afraid of his past of bad relationships and a fear of losing the friendship he shares with Sara if he takes it to the next level.
Of course there are ups and downs, things that bring them closer together or farther apart. But Sara is the best thing in Aaron's life and I had so much appreciation for her, a truly good person, and irritation with Aaron who doesn't seem to know what he wants.
This is a lovely series, and each book just adds to the enjoyment of the world of the hockey team and the people in that circle, while set in Alaska. And I love Merlin, that silly macaw.
I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review.
Emotional hurdles, unrequited love, heated attraction, friendships and heartbreak are waiting on the horizon. Saving Sara has so much going on, but is surprisingly well put together. Mizera plays the heart strings with a romance interrupted. Aaron and Sara have a friendship that can survive anything. Or so they thought. From revisiting old friends to discovering new ones, Mizera proves that a heart can take a beating and still manage to find true happiness waiting on the other side.
4 Merlin the bird is probably my favorite character of this book, though Sara and Aaron are great together and a close second tie. Their best friends to more progresses with ease, yet at the same time has just enough tension to keep you interested! I already have a soft spot for goalies and animals, this book amped the game up.
Saving Sara is part of the Alaska Blizzard hockey series and although this is book five in the series, it was my first read with the Blizzard. Aaron is the team goalie and has been best friends with Sara for a few years. Although they both have deeper feelings, they don’t act on them until one night when Sara makes a move. Their chemistry is explosive, but Aaron holds back. A few months later an earthquake hits Anchorage and Sara ends up with a broken leg and as Aaron’s temporary roommate. You can already see where this is headed, Aaron and Sara rekindle their romance and soon find them selves buying a new home and Aaron plans to propose. Miscommunication leads to a break up and Aaron is forced to face his insecurities and man up to win his woman back. Overall, a good story that moved at a good pace. While Sara was figuring out the next step in her career/life, she saw that Aaron was the most important thing. Aaron was a little slower in the uptake and the lack of communication when he questioned Sara’s plans was a little silly. Side note, having lived in Anchorage for over 40 years, I found it hard to believe that these players were surprised by an earthquake and some had not felt one before the 7.6 one hit.
Saving Sara is book 5 in the Alaska Blizzard series by Kat Mizera. This is Sara and Aaron's story. Aaron plays goalie for the ice hockey team Alaska Blizzard; Sara is the nanny for Niko (son of Dani and Sergei) and a vet assistant. Sara and Aaron are BFFs but Sara is in love with Aaron and wants more out of their relationship. One night changes between them when Sara makes a move to change their relationship from the friendzone to something more. It caused a rift between them. Then several months later an earthquake hits Anchorage and Sara ends up hurt with a broken leg and as Aaron’s temporary roommate. This leads to their friendship and romance rekindled which is heated up with the close proximity of their living space. But something goes wrong with miscommunication and misunderstanding that causes them to separate. Can Sara and Aaron repair their relationship or is this HEA doomed ? Fantastic story with great characters (old favs showing up) , awesome plot with the earthquake action, steamy romance and beautiful chemistry between H/h. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next in this series.
Although book 5 in the series this book could be read as a stand alone but if you’ve read some of the other books it’s nice to reconnect with other characters and see how their relationships are getting on. Sara and Aaron are best friends but Sara is in love with Aaron and wants more. Aaron hasnt had the best track record where relationships are concerned and doesn’t want to destroy the great friendship him and Sara have by trying to turn it into more than friendship. When Sara’s world is rocked on its axis Aaron like all her friends is there for her, could spending so much time together make him eventually give in to his true feelings. I liked Aaron as a character even tho he’s a typical man who does everything relationship wise wrong and causes heartbreak for Sara by doing so. Loved Merlin, his naughty mouth and how quick he bonded to Aaron. Loved all the friends in the book and the fact they had the kind of friendship where Sara could be told to stop feeling sorry for herself and Aaron could be told to stop being an arse. True friendship. I enjoyed the book and the story but their were times when Sara really annoyed me with feeling sorry for herself and the pity party she was throwing hence the 3 stars not more. Giving the situation I’m sure people were in a lot worse positions than her especially with the great group of friends she has who would do anything for her but I found her to be a Debbie downer for too much of the book.
Aaron and Sara have been the best of friends forever. Sara has wanted him for just as long but he is fighting it tooth and nail... she gets drunk and they end up sleeping together he flips out big time. When a freak earthquake hits Alaska she is hurt and ends up moving in with him and both there emotions are all over the place. The chemistry is there but Aaron can't get past what it would ruin. I gotta say at time I wanted to shake them both but I gotta say after some stubbornness they figure it all out with the help of there closest friends. Thank goodness it all works out cause Merlin and Mama dog needed them both.
Another wonderful, page turning emotional hockey story! Ashley @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Aaron and Sara have been best of friends but can they be more. Kat does it again with her emotional friends to lover’s hockey romance that you will not want to put down! These two have battle scars that have them doing everything you expect and then some! This story has all the feels that you expect from Kat and you will not be disappointed. Hey and just a little taste she adds some visits from our Sidewinders friends too!!!! Can we have the next hockey hunk ASAP!!!!
I'm not going to lie, Aaron drove me nuts in this one. From his sleeping with Sara, then giving her the brush off, to making her feel like their friendship was nothing, to the big dumb thing at the end. I felt like I got whip lash with his back and forth, can't imagine how Sara felt during it all. I'm glad they got things worked out. But quite frankly I was more interested in Merlin, the bird and the earthquake and all that that brought.

I am reasonably new to Kat Mizera’s books, and haven’t yet started on any of her Ice Hockey heroes. So, in reading Saving Sara, I found everything I knew I wanted to be reading in a sports romance about those hot alpha males on the ice.
Even though I have come into this stand-a-lone series at book 5, I didn’t feel like I was in a room full of private jokes at any point. Ms Mizera has introduced me to characters without giving away their backstories, and if anything, it has whet my appetite to go back and read more about them.
With his devastating run with long term relationships, it is easy to see why Aaron is running scared and making stupid mistakes in his attempt to preserve his relationship, his ‘friends only’ relationship with Sara. They love each other’s easy company, and it is too precious to him to develop into more in case he loses her. I understood that, yet I still wanted to slap him upside his head. I might not have been able to do it, but holy crap, the WAGs in their group certainly made their displeasure known! Even his friends gave him a serve because in their own relationships, they had worked out on which side their bread was buttered!!!
These Wives And Girlfriends (WAGs) are really good for Sara, and you will see that she needs the best people in her life.
This book is every reason that I love Ice Hockey sports romances, and in Saving Sara, Kat Mizera has nailed it. 5 Stars❄️
With a divorce (to a convicted attempted murderer) and a psychotic ex-girlfriend (who just happened to have been married to a close friend and fellow teammate), Aaron Ferrar has stuck to one night stands in order to avoid bad relationships. The only good relationship he has with a female is with his best friend and confidant, Sara Chandler.
Sara, a former hockey player, is a nanny for another teammate and a vet tech for the local veterinarian. She wants to go to vet school but has been unable to be accepted in any that she has applied to.
Both have had feelings for each other but Aaron is terrified of ruining their friendship and Sara has self worth issues thanks to all the indecision in her life. An earthquake throws them together and having to confront their feelings for each other.
This is one of those stories where you (along with all of their friends) want to smack the two of them upside the head and yell, "wake up and smell the cat shit!" Throw in a cussing macaw and a hockey team and their significant others trying their best to get these two to realize they're meant to be together and I truly enjoyed this story.
After Sara and Aaron share one night of passion, can Aaron shove his best friend back into the friend zone? In this book, I got to revisit some of my favorite characters from previous books in the Blizzard’s Series and some from the Sidewinder’s Series. Aaron and Sara have been best friends, but Sara wants more and feels more for Aaron than he seems to want. Aaron has had more than his share of messy relationships and he values what he and Sara share. After a disaster brings Sara to become Aaron’s roommate, Aaron starts to feel more for Sara than he wants to allow himself. The push and pull between these two characters will have the reader wanting to shake them both silly. I love this series and all the characters it has brought into my reader world, so for me these books are page turners and I can’t seem to put them down until I get to the end.
A return to the Alaska Blizzard. This time it's the story of Aaron and Sara. I loved Aaron from the moment he was introduced in another story. Sara is Dani's best friend (Defending Dani). Aaron and Sara developed a friendship that turned into something more. After one encounter, Aaron pulls away breaking Sara's heart. Will they be able to put it together to get their happily ever after as their friends have done?
I absolutely loved Aaron and Sara and was rooting for them. Of course the road to happily ever after never seems to run smoothly but I enjoyed their journey. I must say that Merlin stole the show. It was also great to see some of my favorite characters from the Alaska Blizzard.
Aaron is the goalie for the Alaska Blizzard who is a great teammate and friend but when it comes to women his past has shown him that his judgment is not to be trusted. He and Sara are best friends and even though they had one steamy encounter he quickly stepped backed as he didn’t want to destroy their friendship.
Sara is trying to find her place in life both personally and professionally. She has always wanted to be more than friends with Aaron, but their one encounter was enough for Aaron. When Sara needs someone the most he is there for her but will he ever be willing to open his heart and head to a future with her?
Everyone in their lives know that they belong together and now they just have to convince Aaron.
Y’all! I just finished it and oMg! Aaron is just so complex and devoted at the same time! Five stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Kat Mizera is a master at wooing your heart and making you fall so deep for her hockey hero’s! I love a good romance and she gives you so much more than just a sports romance. Aaron’s and Sara’s story is one of two besties that fall so deep with each other, then the amazing show stopping one night happens for them. Aaron does not know how to handle how he feels.
They feel so much for each other that they can’t go but one way. It’s so fun to watch them get there and you get a visit from the sidewinders crew too! YES PLEASE!
Kat Mizera has brought us another brilliant story of the Alaska Blizzard franchise. Aaron and Sara have been friends for a few years now. Thrown together by their circumstances as the single members of the inner core group, they develop a strong friendship over the years over hockey and helping their friends and each other through various struggles in life. Aaron has had several bad relationships and has sworn off any future entanglements. Sara has had her own experience with a failed relationship and has thrown her focus on her pursuit of a career as a veterinarian. She and Aaron have fought a strong pull to each other as they both know that they really should only keep their relationship on the friends level. One moment is all it takes to rock their world and they now must figure out where their attraction will lead them and how far they are willing to go for each other. I have really looked forward to this story as I have felt strongly about these two wonderful characters.
So I first have to say I love a friends to lovers romance. I can’t believe how many hurdles these two characters had to go through to make it work. So Sara needed to be more confident and Arron needed to get his S*it together. But when all is said and done it’s called friends to loves for a reason, and once you add hockey into the mix you have with steamy romance. I absolutely love this series and reading about other characters and how their lives are after their books end is so magical for me.
This was a great hockey romance. I love sports romance and this one did not disappoint.
Aaron and Sara had been friends for a long time. Both of them ignoring the attraction. One night changes their relationship. Sara wishes for the better.
When Sara is injured their friendship is rekindled. Will it be enough to move forward with a romantic relationship? Will they get it right this time?
I enjoyed this book. I loved getting the other couples as well. I look forward to the next one.
Aaron and Sara have been best friends for years and neither will admit their attraction to each other, after Sara decides to make a move life gets awkward for them but a disaster makes Aaron face his feelings and Sara reevaluate what she wants in life. This book isn't just about falling in love but also about how you need friends, finding out what you really want in life and going for it as well as communication makes everyone life easier ... oh and I really really want a Macaw called Merlin!!! 😂
Kat Mizera does it again with Saving Sara. I love the Alaska Blizzard series. You can't beat hot hockey players falling in love. Sara is amazing. You will just love her and how she falls hard for her best friend Aaron. You feel for Aaron throughout this read. If you followed this series so far then you know what I mean. You get why they don't want to rock the boat with their friendship. You can't deny the chemistry and pull between Aaron and Sara at all. They are hot together and will steal your heart. I love how Aaron jumps in and helps Sara when she really needs it. You will just love Merlin too. This book is hot and filled with amazing friends and of course some laughs too. I just couldn't put this one down.
Didn't hate but Aaron was a bit hasty at one point and if this author thinks I ever want to read a guy do that to the girl. It was so unseemly. Sara was a negative Nancy as was her dad. Geez. If she could get out of her head I really would of liked her.
Aaron and Sara have been best friends for a few years now. While Sara is having stronger feelings Aaron doesn't want to do anything to ruin the friendship.. Aaron hasn't had the best of luck in relationships and he can't lose Sara by doing something stupid. One night everything changes for them both but Aaron can't handle it. When Sara needs him the most will he stay away or help her?
Story of watching a friendship grow into love. Highlight is Merlin .. You will have to read it to see who that is
The fantastic Kat Mizera has done it again! Aaron Ferrar is the starting goalie for the Alaska Blizzard and has had bad luck in the dating arena with a divorce, a psycho, and too many one night stands to count. Aaron believes he isn't good enough for his sexy best friend, Sara, and finds it harder every day to resist her. Sara Chandler works as a nanny for her best friend and part time as a veterinary tech for a local veterinary clinic until she gets accepted to veterinary school. Sara is hurt when Aaron pulls away after they hook up after a night of drinking. When a earthquake hits, Aaron is sent to the veterinary clinic to make sure Sara and the animals are okay. Aaron finds Sara injured and trapped underneath a cabinet. With the help of 2 teenagers, Aaron is able to free Sara and get her to the hospital. With Sara's injuries and the damages to Sergei and Dani's house, Aaron invites Sara to live with him. Sara is reluctant at first but knows she really has no other choice. As Aaron and Sara spend time together, they fall back into enjoying their time together like they used to. Sara tries to date her orthopedic surgeon but finds him boring, but Sara knows that no one compares to Aaron. Aaron finally confesses to Sara that he wants her but is afraid that he will hurt her with the mistakes he always makes in relationships. While Aaron and Sara move forward quickly in their relationship as a couple, Sara reevaluates her life and what she wants. What will Sara do when she learns she wasn't rejected from her first choice veterinary school? How will Aaron react when he learns of the offer made to Sara to attend veterinary school? Can Sara forgive Aaron for hurting her in the worst possible way? Will Aaron convince Sara of his true feelings? Will Sara choose school or Aaron? I LOVED Saving Sara by Kat Mizera. Saving Sara is an amazing story with great characters and animals that will have the reader laughing out loud. The chemistry between Aaron and Sara is scorching hot! I love how the characters from previous books intertwine and offer advice to the couple. I would highly recommend getting Saving Sara and the other books in the Alaska Blizzard series by Kat Mizera. Kat Mizera is a MUST read author for this reader. I received an ARC copy of this book, and I am leaving my honest review.
I had been waiting for Aaron and Sara's story since I first discovered this series. This is the fifth book so the wait was excruciating.. *mumbles* didn't help that Kat Mizera had other books being release before this one. But all good. All good.
Their story did not disappoint. I read this baby in one sitting and it's probably my fave story from the series so far. Not being bias but there story just flowed so well. Whilst the previous books in the series were great reads too, I'd noticed that each one had repetitiveness in some parts of their storylines. I don't know if it's because each one can be read as standalone and for the reader to understand the dynamics of the characters, the author had to mention the relationships from previous books.. This one however did not have any of that. It was a refreshing change within this series because it was solely focused on these two characters.
Aaron was already one of my fave characters in the previous books and I had always wanted to read his story because he the one who didn't share a lot of feelings or tried to brush off anything remotely serious when it came to dating.
And Sara has had a thing for him since she was first introduced and became friends with all the guys. But Aaron not wanting anything serious, he put Sara totally in the friendzone, and she pretty much accepted it because she didn't want to push a relationship on someone who didn't reciprocate her feelings...
That's pretty much where this story starts off. They've been great friends for a while but after certain circumstances and events occur, they re-evaluate their relationship. Is their chemistry worth risking their friendship? Is Aaron willing to commit? Is Aaron everything Sara hoped for as a boyfriend? Is their bond, love and friendship strong enough to withstand bumps along the road or will they call quits before getting to involved? It's a rollercoaster.
Did I mention I enjoyed this book?! I did. Is well worth the months long wait! A great sports romance book.. You don't even need to know anything or be a fan of ice hockey to start this series. If you love romance reads, this is muy bien! *thumbs up* :-D
Saving Sara is Book 5 in the Alaska Blizzard series. It is my first read in this series, and I feel it can be read as a standalone. There are a few characters that play a big part in this book, and once you get to know them and the group dynamics, it is easy to follow the story of Aaron and Sara.
Set in Anchorage, the Alaska Blizzard is a hockey team, with Aaron the current goalie. He’s had his fair share of bad luck in the romance department and has a love em and leave em reputation. Sara is a friend of Aaron, connected through the team, mutual friends and a love of hockey. Sara has had her own relationship pitfalls as well as disappointments in life.
The story begins with disaster striking Anchorage, in which Sara is injured, resulting in many homes and businesses damaged. The town pulls together, but still Sara needs to stay with Aaron during her recovery and recuperation. How will their friendship fare in such close proximity? Add in some fun and friendly group banter, a hockey team struggling to find their mojo and some seriously cute (and obnoxious!) pets and you have a wonderful blend of sweet and steamy romance, that meshes together a lovely story of friendship that could be more. A couple of plot twists add to the depth of this story as both Aaron and Sara discover their true selves hidden beneath insecurities. I will be reading more of this series as I found Saving Sara to be well-written with characters I enjoyed reading about, and a story I was caught up in. A 4.5 star read for me.
Thank you for the early copy I received. This is an honest review with all opinions my own.
Once again Kat doesn't fail to please hooking you in and making the book hard to put down. Sara works as a vet assistant and nanny for Niko son of Dani and Sergei. Aaron plays goalie for the ice hockey team Alaska Blizzard and though Sara and he have been friends for years he gets scared off after a one night stand and distances himself from her. Everything changes when Alaska gets hit by an earthquake and Aaron has to rescue Sara from the vet clinic as some debris has fallen across her legs. With no cell phones working calling for help is out of the question until a couple of passerby's come to help him. Sara gets laid up for a few weeks with her injuries and has to move in with Aaron as her place where usually stays with her friends is damaged and there's no room for her to go. So Aaron finds himself in his apartment with Sara and a macaw called Merlin who swears like a trooper who they had to rescue from the damaged veterinary practice. Aaron finds himself loving having company when he's home instead of coming back to an empty apartment. He finds himself falling for Sara once again though they run into a few obstacles along the way since the course of true love never runs smoothly. I received a copy (thank you) to do an honest review for Naughty Nighty Book Blog. You won't be disappointed with this read there's a few twists and turns you don't see coming. Therefore you need to keep reading in order to see what happens next.
Aaron Ferrar and Sara Chandler have been best friends for years. While both have deeper feelings for the other, they are afraid to risk their friendship. When Sara decides to finally make the first move, however, Aaron is all in . . .until he panics and pushes her away and virtually out of his life.
When disaster brings them closer than ever, both try fighting their feelings, but finally give in to what they both want and need. But, when miscommunications and misunderstandings throw a wrench in the works it will take an entire team and their significant others to bring this couple together again.
I really liked this couple, even though Aaron took a bit too long to realize just how perfect Sara was for him! He seriously has the worst taste in women and sucks at relationships, but being friends with Sara was easy. He just didn’t feel like he was good enough for her. Sara also did a whole lot of soul searching throughout this book and realizes that maybe she doesn’t want what she thought she did and that there is something to be said for all that she already has.
There are some really adorable moments between this couple and I couldn’t wait for them to finally get together for good. 4 stars.
