I have read all of the books in this boxset, and it is my pleasure to give my honest and voluntary review:
The Protector's Promise: Although Court's background is humble, he is a strong and ambitious man who is nevertheless noble in his endeavors. Both he and Marion have been drawn to the stone that protects Scotland. When Marion discovers that the stone has been stolen from the fairy pools, she goes after it, much against the advice of his personal guards. However, she gets more than she anticipated when she finally catches up with Court. As Court struggles with himself regarding the mission that he has been tasked with, he cannot deny the feelings he has developed for Marion. The appearance of an evil that they both recognise tries to force Court's hand, however in that moment Court gains the wisdom and understanding he needs, even though he risks losing Marion.
The Rogue's Redemption: In an unstable period of history and along the volatile border between Scotland and England, the Border strongholds have a difficult time keeping the peace between the warring factions that would upset the balance of power. In the midst of it, Reid Kerr represents his brother at a meeting of the border chiefs, where he comes face to face with the feisty and strong-minded Allie Bowman. Realising that he has antagonised Allie's sister, Reid knows that he has tread very carefully if he wants to win Allie's heart. Reid's reputation is less than stellar and ultimately it is not only Allie's family he has to win over, but he also needs to readjust his own self-esteem if he is ever to feel worthy of Allie.
The Guardian's Favor: This novel is well written with a strong, protective hero and the damsel in distress may need help but is no shrinking violet. Lady Clarissa knows that she has to escape her father before he finds out that her ex-husband has filed for an annulment of their marriage, otherwise she is likely to find herself in another despicable union. When the Scot Aidan de Sowlis arrives for a meeting with her father, she grabs the opportunity presented to her by asking for his aid in making her escape. Their previous meeting is still fresh in their minds and the attraction they experienced as young star crossed lovers is still as strong as ever. Whilst Aidan will do what it takes to make Clarissa his wife and to keep her safe, Clarissa knows that the peace of the area will be in further jeopardy should she choose him. Her mind made up, Clarissa makes her plans to join a convent. However, nothing goes to plan and it takes her father’s duplicity to make the lovers realise that they have to make their own choices regarding their future.
The Knight's Reward: Neill Waryn wanted peace at any price on the Anglo-Scottish border and when he wins the tournament, he asks the King of England for a boon. His request is granted but at the time, he really did not take into consideration the price he would have to pay. On route home, he meets up with Lady Kathryn who is on her own quest and when she persuades him to allow her to accompany him north, he cautiously agrees. However, he does not expect to fall in love with her, especially as he has been charged with marriage to one of the Queen’s ladies-in-waiting as one of the conditions to the King granting his boon. The story is well written, suspenseful and fast-paced with the strong tug on the heartstrings experienced by two people in love.
This boxset is well written, fully depicting the historical period, with all the heartfelt romance one expects from Ms Mecca. Each book is a standalone and comes to a happy conclusion. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I just finished the Border Series while in the middle of a kitchen remodel. I could not put the books down! They were all very good. I really enjoyed each of them. Great story lines and interesting characters that make the reader want to be part of the "family"!
