About the author

Author/Artist/Educator Robert Quackenbush has written and illustrated over 200 books for young readers including his popular Miss Mallard Mysteries, which have been made into animated films for children's worldwide television programming by Cinar (now Cookie Jar Entertainment) that are showing in 70 countries. His books have won many awards and citations including an Edgar Allen Poe Special Award for Best Juvenile Mystery, a Gradiva Award, and a gold medal from the Holland Society of New York for distinction in art and literature by a member of the society. He is a frequent visiting author at schools and libraries giving programs to instill children with a love of books and reading. These tours have taken him across the US, including Alaska, South America, Europe, and the Middle East. His art is in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum, the Smithsonian Institution, the Department of Interior, the U.S. Air Force Museum, and Norton Simon Museum. 3.5 stars - kind of cute mystery appropriate for 6-8 yr olds - contains language and concepts younger kids may not understand. Would have liked the plot to be developed a little more, it was a nice start though. Nice full page illustrations. Would want to explore other books in the series.

I feel like text-dense picture books like this are less common now and I'm not sure why? I thought this series was the pinnacle of humor and mystery when I was, like, 6, and upon adult re-reading...I still think Miss Mallard and her worldwide adventures are pretty great.

I was worried it might be cringy, and it does get a little Western-savior-y, but overall it wasn't, and was just as fun as I remembered. And the villains are a bunch of greedy rich guys, always a plus.

Add these to the "someone should totally bring these back into print" list!

Updating my review to add that as of Fall 2019, someone HAS brought this whole series back into print and I’m super thrilled!
