Barbara Bard was born in the Highlands of Scotland but moved to the United States and was raised in the sweltering heat of New Orleans. She studied at Emory University in Atlanta and has worked as a journalist for a small press.

Barbara’s partner is descended from Scottish ancestors and she has been fascinated with all things Scottish for many years. That interest has also helped to propel a blossoming writing career and she is now working on novels with a historical Scottish romance flavor.

The first in her series follows the exploits of the Baird and McCall clans and is full of the type of brave warrior heroes that are romanticized of that era, while her books about the MacDougal clan have a more magic and paranormal feel to them.

When she isn’t working or writing her next book, Barbara enjoys yoga and traveling to new and exciting places. She loves nothing better than immersing herself in the culture of another country and getting to know some of the locals.

Barbara hopes that her novels will soon become self-sustaining and provide her with the full-time career she has always wanted.

This took me by surprise. The story told is about the fierce proud hold of freedom the Highlanders held against the English. This is years after the last book "Her Highlander's Lion Heart". It is suspenseful and a page turner. There is so much action it was hard to put the book down. In the last book a secret alliance between Lord Torstein and Finlay developed because Torstein knew what the crown wanted was wrong. So far, the Baird clan have been living in peace. However, Finlay and Isla knew it was only a matter of time before it was challenged again. Gavina is now grown up and is the leader of a special squad called the Bairdsmen. They are the elitists of all the warriors. Finlay and Isla have given her the leadership of this group. She is more than qualified. Lord Jessup was sent by the king to finish up what Lord Torstein was not able to accomplish. The eradication of the Baird clan. For years Torstein led Jessup on a wild goose chase never divulging the Baird's location. In war torn Scotland the English still fought the Scots. Jessup finally got a lead and followed it. In the meantime, Gavina and Lord Torstein's man Christian began a physical relationship. Christian was for peace and sided with the Highlanders. He also fell in love with Gavina. Gavina has always maintained to never fall in love. There was no place in the life of a warrior for it. But she was wrong. Torstein escaped his brutal imprisonment from Jessup to warn Finlay and Isla war was imminent. The clan worked to fortify the village, sent all those who could not fight and the children away, train all volunteers in swordplay and the bow and arrow. When word reached Finlay that they needed more men, it was decided that they had no choice but to approach a rogue clan McManus. The Laird Rory McManus agreed for a price to support the Baird clan in the fight against the English. They waited... nervously. This book is filled with excellent characters to fill every expectation. The story is as unpredictable as the weather and there are twists and turns in the book that will take you by surprise. Never a dull moment. You will not be disappointed. This book was based on Isla’s sister Gavina. There is another book in this series, that I can't wait to read. It will be based on Isla and Finlay’s son Eamon. I highly recommend all the books in the series.

These are standalone stories but have characters carryover. The previous book told Finlay and Isla's story. This one concerns Isla's sister Gavina. She is now a warrior for the Baird clan. She thought she was self sufficient and fine alone. Her clan came first.

Lord Torstein had been tasked with finding and obliterating the Baird clan. However, he disagreed with the King and had struck an alliance with Finlay and Isla. He had kept the King in the dark for years while the Bairds fled to a remote corner of the Highlands and lived a peaceful life.

Trouble ensues when Sir Jessup shows up with reinforcements to assist in their task having been sent by the King. Lord Torstein sends word to the Bairds that their future is now uncertain.
He arranged a meeting with the Bairds in a neutral village to hopefully forge a truce between England and Scotland.

Waiting in a tavern for the Sassenach to arrive, Gavina sees Christian come in and the attraction is immediate. Sir Jessup and Lord Torstein come in and the negotiations begin.

Sir Jessup, not wanting a truce, tricked Lord Torstein and the meeting goes south. Gavina and her fellow warriors grab Christian and flee. Sir Jessup takes Lord Torstein and a Highlander named Glen as prisoners and go back to Jessup's castle.

Now what? Will Sir Jessup get information out of his prisoners? Will he finally locate the Baird clan? What will happen to Christian? Will he be killed by the clan?

I enjoyed this chapter of the Baird's story. However, I could have done with fewer scenes of a sexual nature between Gavina and Christian. Seriously. There are also several typos which detracted from the flow of the story. That is why only 4 stars.

I received an ARC from the author and this is my voluntary review.

Gavina is a warrior in the Baird clan. She has always put the clan first. Lord Torstein has secretly made a pact with the clan and so has kept them safe for years. Now the king has sent Sir Jessup with troops to help fine the Bairds. Torstein gets Jessup to agree to meet with the head of the clan and agree on a truce. He sends word to the Bairds. Gavina is sitting in the tavern waiting on them when Christian comes in. They look at each other and there is an immediate attraction. As soon as everyone is seated, discussion begins. Jessup has no intention of making a truce and trouble starts. Both sides brought extra people and the fight is on. Gavina and the warriors grab Christian and leave. They head for home. Jessup takes a Highlander named Glenn and Torstein as prisoners and they and his men head for his castle. What will happen to Glenn and Torstein?
When Gavina's group reach home Findlay locks Christian in a cell. Will he be killed? Will Gavina be able to save him? Will Jessup find the clan? Will there be a battle? Who will win?
There is danger, suspense, adventure, drama, action, romance. It is exciting and emotional. Twist and turns will keep you reading. Get a copy and find out what happens.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book and I'm voluntarily posting a review. I also bought the book. My opinion is entirely my own.

A Knight for her Highland Heart brings you through a dark and turbelent time in Scotland and England. It's an unforgettable Highland romance with a strong plot that brings this read together perfectly. With a magnificent cast of characters who all  have wonderful personalities and they become very endearing as the story progresses. The scenes are so strikingly detailed it paints an incredible backdrop that makes you feel like you are one with the story. Christian is an English knight who joins Isla and Finley and the Baird clan fight for peace for the Highlands. Gavina, Isla's sister, in a head of the Bairdsmen warriors who will fight for her clan and the Highlands. I was totally swept away with sigh-worthy romance of Christian and Gavina. A heart pounding story with Delicious Sizzling Passion, plenty of drama, suspense, battle, trials and tribulations, and the gamut of emotions from despair and grief to joy and ecstasy. I really enjoyed revisiting old friends from The Baird Clan that I haven't visited for a while. Barbara Bard has given us a story of love, faith, and to triumph over all. Once I started reading I could not put this book down until I had finished reading it!!

ONE EXTRAORDINARY THRILL RIDE!!!
Slow your roll! Barbara lays the base, lines the arrow and plows the target with such zeal and gusto, blazing a path and fusing this baby together fluidly. Securing the field, rending the rules, thrusting this baby into the eye of the storm, blasting it into a tailspin with stunning impacts. Action, drama, danger and suspense rule the roost in this thrilling storyline and gripping plot that blasts this jewel to life spectacularly. Add distress, intrigue and turmoil along with a boatload of trouble and you have one excellent adventure. The chemistry is intense, smoldering and palpable. The realism and authenticity of the characters as their on point personalities blend and flow along with the graphically detailed scenes make it easy to interpret each scenario as they play off one another perfectly. Awesome job Barbara, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.

This book is a stand-alone book but it continues the Baird clan saga. In this book Gavina, Isla’s sister, story pick up where she is a grown woman now. Gavina proves herself to be a capable fighter and leader! When the calms peace is threatened Gavina tries to negotiate piece but is once again betrayed by the English. The Baird clan makes its final stand for peace! In the mist of chaos Gavina finds love in the most unlikely of place, with an English knight. I love playing of Barbara Bard’s book! I was disappointed in all the spelling/grammar errors and mixing up characters! At times it was confusing until you realize the wrong character names were in the wrong place. I was shocked the editing wasn’t better. All her previous books had better editing! I still recommend this book if you can overlook the mistakes as the story is a good one with plenty of action, romance and drama!

This is the story of Christian & Gavina, with a lot of side characters, some of previous books. Christian is a Knight who wants peace. Gavina is a Highland Warrior. They meet when Christian takes a message to them from an ally and warns them of a suspected attack on them from the English. They meet again at a meeting with the head of the army wishing to bid the English King's wishes to wipe out all Highlanders. From there, there is nothing but action and the love between Christian & Gavina. It is a truly inspiring story. There are many perils they face together. Barbara Bard is a well written author; one that holds your attention throughout the story. I look forward to her next book.

She will never surrender!

Gavina has been fighting the English all her life to protect her family and her clan and she is not going to give up now when their soldiers have been ordered to find and obliterate all Scots. This book picks up from where the previous book left off (Her Highlander’s Lion Heart). Lord Torstein is still honoring his secret truce with the Highlanders but a new enforcer, Sir Jessup, is determined to carry out King’s orders. Christian, a knight serving Lord Torstein, is determined to honor the truce but is gravely injured when Sir Jessup takes action.

This is another well written historical romance that is packed with action and romance.

“Aye, I wish ye tae stay, Christian.”

Could there be a Highlander romance anymore exciting than Barbara Bard's, "A Knight For Her Highland Heart?" This story features Gavina, a warrior, (sister of Isla, from an earlier book in this series,) and Christian, English knight. When they meet, during a momentary truce, they are both poised to do battle, but longing for peace. Someone came to the table with false intentions, and the adventure begins! Expect drama, angst, excitement, suspense, danger, adventure, conflict, humor, and romance. A thrilling read.

Fast-paced Highland romance. This is one exciting, action-packed, intriguing delight that grabbed my interest from the start and wouldn’t let go. The twist and turns, ups and downs and a few glitches in this story make for one engaging read. Gavina and Christian are wonderful characters, who make you feel that you are a part of their story. I really enjoyed this book, including the final battle and highly recommend it.

I liked the fact that there are many strong willed characters throughout the book. There is a constant state of decision making going on by many of those characters. You never know where the story will go with much of the book. It makes it exciting to see how it will all turn out.

Great characters and storyline!

A wonderful historical romance! I very much enjoyed the development of the love to blossom between the English Knight and the Scottish warrior. Their trials and the combat they had to win their freedom was exciting. The love of family that was able to accept the outsider is wonderful. We can sure use more of it today. A very enjoyable reading, thank you, Jack./

Bairds Family

This is a very moving story of struggle of the beliefs that people might start with but soon need changes. Gavin a and Christian have to learn to trust in each other accepting responsibility in their actions in life and love. They learn to fight for what is important in life and family.

I struggled a bit in the first couple of pages with the Scottish dialogue but then got used to it and grew to enjoy it a lot. I loved the sense of humor. An action-packed war story with well-developed characters and plenty of action. The explicit scenes detracted from the story though and I skipped them but will probably rather avoid more books from the author which is a pity.

Great read

It was so good to read a story about a brave lass warrior. I loved the storyline and interesting chapters. The hatred of the English and Scottish is well known with all the historic battles. It brings it all to life. Great read definitely worth recommending

The story picks up shortly after the last one ended. Gavina is a Warrior and leader of the Bairdsman of her clan. Christian is an English night who doesn’t completely believe in the English campaign against the highlanders led by Sir Jessup. I enjoyed part of the suspense built into the story yet found it really hard to stay focused. The struggle for power it took many forms in the story: chain of command, preservation of family and lifestyle as well as making the moral decision. Story progressed OK although some parts seemed particularly cruel and unpredictable at times. I was not impressed by the romance/intimacy of Gavina and Christian. Most of the scenes seemed like assembly instructions: insert tab A into slot B and move repeatedly until sparks fly. I was compelled to skip over them near the end as they surfaced predictably and were described virtually the same each time. I did find the ending satisfactory with a reasonable HEA. I received this ARC for free in exchange for an honest review.
