The two newest Fate of the Gods Novellas collected together for the first time in one Volume.
Enduring Fate (Book 2.75) In the early 20th Century, far from the powder keg of Europe, in Connecticut, Eve endures a marriage to an abusive, jealous, monstrous man. When her husband commits her to an asylum for the mentally ill as a convenient means by which to control her, delivering her into the care of a doctor determined to drive her mad, she endures that, too.
Until, after seeing her DeLeon family safe from the ravages of World War I in France, Thor finds her trapped inside the ward, beaten and broken. Until the doctor and her husband conspire to push her just too far beyond the limits of her self-restraint, unleashing a devastating power she fears she is no longer able to control.
Concealing Fate (Book 0.5) After the events of Enduring Fate it's no wonder that Eve would choose to return to France, eager to live her new life honestly among the only people she can trust. Until she meets Garrit and finds hereslf caught again in a relationship built on a foundation of secrets and lies.
Of all the men in the world she might meet, Garrit is the only one who knows the truth of her Creation, of her entire history from the dawn of time--but heir to the House of Lions or not, he absolutely refuses to believe in it. Even when the proof is standing right in front of him.
And, in addition, a bonus scene previously only available to Patreon Patrons, exclusive to this paperback collection!
Amalia Dillin began as a Biology major before taking Latin and falling in love with old heroes and older gods. After that, she couldn't stop writing about them, with the occasional break for more contemporary subjects. She lives in upstate New York with her husband, and dreams of the day when she will own goats--to pull her chariot through the sky, of course.
Amalia is the author of the Fate of the Gods trilogy, and the Orc Saga, beginning with HONOR AMONG ORCS. She also writes historical fiction under the name Amalia Carosella.
Reading Enduring Fate was difficult for me, because what happens to Eve (godly involvement aside) is my worst nightmare as an autistic woman. Which isn't to say I disliked the story; I'm glad Amalia Dillin decided to focus on the eugenics movement, especially since forced sterilization is an issue we're still dealing with. The one bright spot in this tragic tale was Thor's devotion to Eve in spite of his father's command. The bonus scene gives some insight into why Lugh opted to aid Sif in her revenge campaign against Eve. I'll admit to preferring Concealing Fate since the subject matter was lighter, and Dillin gave good explanations for Garrit and Eve's behavior, as frustrating as said behavior might have been at times. Plus, getting to know Garrit's DeLeon cousins who we only briefly glimpsed in Forged by Fate was fun, and I liked Dillin's brief nod to her short story Bride Price.
