Dare To Live Greatly

Rate this book
Dare To Live Greatly is a story of fearless faith, finding purpose in a purposeless world—and how one man survived and overcame the odds to graduate BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL training), called his Lymphoma cancer a gift of a lifetime and found success by the world's standards. But still, that was not enough.

One thing all Navy FROGMEN, now called SEALs, have in common, is that they first survived Hell Week and went on to graduate Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training in Coronado, California. For six months, BUD/S trainees are forced to endure the most rigorous physical and mental crucible known to man. To survive, these tadpoles (named after their frogmen forefathers) are forced to confront their greatest fears, reach deep within, and summon the courage to press forward in the face of insurmountable odds—assuming they survive the training.

Larry did survive Hell Week and graduated BUD/S Class 89, the class who created the motto “The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday.” During his training, Larry created a detailed journal to show his future sons what it meant to live a faithful Christian life, even in the midst of what looked and felt like hell. He wanted them to see how his faith formed and informed the continuous, action-packed, ongoing, and constantly fulfilling adventure of life in BUD/S, then as a Naval Special Force's operator.

Dare To Live Greatly doesn’t just invite readers to experience “a day in the life” of a BUD/S trainee. There are plenty of books and movies that already do that. Instead, Dare To Live Greatly is more about thriving through fears, surpassing goals, and finding your life-long purpose. It’s a gritty, captivating story told through the lens of a man who fearlessly embraced his faith as a searing source of strength and inspiration, no matter how dire the circumstances. And Larry knows just how bad things can get. While he’s had great business success, he’s also experienced the death of a child and treatment-resistant cancer. Still, he continues to live a tenacious life.

This book will spur every reader—believer or not—to consider their deepest calling and the bigger purpose for which they were made. Dare To Live Greatly is not just about confronting fears, but running toward them. The book accomplishes that goal through a series of autobiographical reflections that apply what Larry learned in BUD/S and the business world to readers’ daily lives. Each story is both inspirational and actionable.

L.C. (Larry) Fowler is an exciting new nonfiction Christian author. He was born and raised in the southern United States and gave up college to follow his dream of attending Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL (BUD/S) training. All to become a famed member of the Navy Special Warfare community. The only problem was, someone forgot to tell him you had to be able to swim.

Despite that seemingly insurmountable issue, Larry went on to successfully graduate from BUD/S Class 89 and was selected by his peers at Navy basic training as their “Honor Man.” He has also launched more than a hundred websites and built two software and marketing companies from scratch.

Larry decided to publish Dare to Live Greatly: Real Christian Living Requires the Grit, Courage & Confidence of a Navy SEAL in Training, following the death of his third son, Chris. He then understood that surviving as a powerful Christian in today’s world requires the courage, grit, and unnerving perseverance of a Navy SEAL in training.

In his spare time, Larry enjoys college sports, spending time with family and friends, ocean swims and reading while digging his feet in the sand. Larry enthusiastically believes that everyone has a unique, God-given purpose for unchartered success.

Larry was an invited guest at the White House and has trained with Christian personnel across the globe, including Pakistan, Indonesia, China, and other countries at all organizational levels.
Even while living with Lymphoma cancer, he has learned to live each day to the max.

Larry would love your comments at Publisher@NavySeal.com. He is genuinely grateful for all book reviews.

This is such a great book that I feel like there are no words sufficient enough to describe how helpful and useful this book is, besides being an interesting and enjoyable read.

I plan on trying to obtain a physical copy that I can highlight, make notes in, and flip through easier than the Kindle version. It's definitely a keeper.

"Dare To Live Greatly" is so much more than a book... It's a reusable manual, a survival guide if you will, that will help many Christians, one that will definitely be a reusable volume not only for myself, but I believe others will reuse it over and over again also.

The author shares so many good examples and comparisons between Navy Seal training and the storms and challenges of life but it doesn't stop there. He provides the reader with solutions and answers to build up, strengthen and encourage, to stand and face whatever trials, battles that may come our way.

Thank you L.C. Fowler for sharing your experience, wisdom and insight with the world. Fantastic job, fantastic book!

Dare to Live Greatly: The Courage to Live a Powerful Christian Life by L.C. Fowler is a fantastic and uplifting memoir and guidebook chronicling a tadpole’s beginnings into a fearless Special Warfare Community. Fowler encourages readers to live a powerful Christian life through his lessons learned as a Basic Underwater Demolition SEAL (BUD/S) training in 1977 in Coronado, California. His book is more than a telling of life in the BUD/S training; his book gives others the motivation and insight they need to push forward to thrive beyond life’s fears and comfort zones.

Developing fearless perseverance is only the first lesson in this book, as the author speaks on zeal, faith, facing the impossible to becoming a tenacious, wise warrior with absolute resolve for running the race well and finishing. Readers will not be able to put this book down! Every page is power packed with the how-to become great and thrive!

Fowler gives an invitation – an amazing invitation – to live a life courageously expecting more, doing more, and obtaining more that you every thought possible. This book is one for those that want to do something great yet need the push and inspiration to do so. Readers will discover that a heartfelt attitude of overcome means just that…to overcome until you win…whatever the cost and that giving up is not an option, nor is just surviving – TO THRIVE is the goal. His book is a solutions-based to some of life’s greatest obstacles.

Coupled with great quotes from noteworthy evangelists like Billy Graham and memorable sayings that give deep insight from those who have gone before us, he poses a unique question within this, What are you starving for? We should all be starving for something worthwhile. ~ is his answer.

Each chapter offers a step inside peek at the Navy Seals training program; programmed to break you, and if that’s not enough, his story on what it took for him to graduate and win. He gives life-lessons that are invaluable, as he has learned from experience along the way each give a snapshot of the jaw-dropping and gruelling training in the Navy Seal training. Only the best win. Chapter twenty-six is one of my favorite chapters: When You’re Down to Nothing, God is up to Something! The author blends the truth of circumstances can appear to be, yet points readers to a greater cause, giving immense hope for the breakthrough that only God can bring in these intense life situations. A highly recommended must read

Quit Bleeding and Get Back in the Pool

If you want to read a truly inspirational and motivational book then Dare to Live Greatly: The Courage to Live a Powerful Christian Life by L.C. Fowler would be a strong recommendation.

This part biography, part look behind the scenes of United States Navy SEAL Training and wholly engaging book is a must read. In fact, the quotes in the book and the fantastic gold nuggets that are shared by the author make this a book that will probably be read over and over again. It is the recommendation of this reviewer that this book be carried personally on a day by day basis with highlighted passages reread daily.

The book begins with a young man's journey and quest to become a prestigious Navy SEAL. The journey is an arduous one for this young man and requires a physical stamina in order to meet the high bar of becoming a SEAL. However, and more in depth, the journey to achieve his goal requires a test of his mental discipline as well as throwing his heart into the entire process of achieving his goal.

The book is replete with wonderful quotes and Scripture passages that underscore the importance of the message that is being conveyed. Additionally, the author speaks to the reader on a personal level and emphasizes the parallels between becoming a SEAL and enduring all of life's challenges for the personal individual.

Of a Navy SEAL, the author writes "Becoming a Navy SEAL is one of the most selfless acts a man can do since he must be willing to give up everything." When he speaks of the seasoned trainers that are committed to making these "tadpoles" into Navy SEALs, he states at the end of the day these trainers not only want the best from the young recruits but they wanted the best for these young recruits.

Another powerful passage asks the reader, "We should all be starving for something worthwhile. What are you starving for? What are you willing to pay whatever price is necessary?

The Courage to Live a Powerful Christian Life by L.C. Fowler is a highly recommended book. The book will most certainly inspire, motivate and encourage the reader. The added impact is the reality of the writers experience coupled with his obvious engagement of the principles, thoughts and ideas that he shares.

An excellent inspirational and motivational read!

Dare to Live Greatly is a book written by the award-winning author Larry Fowler. It is a tale in which the author took on his personal story to explain the way he overcame the issues of his life believing in a supreme power. As he is top-notch in Seal’s world and also in spirituality, his ideas are very clear and innovative for everyone who is interested in this particular field. His vast experience on the topic gives realism to the story.
I dare to say that from the very beginning the title of this book caught my attention and then it was held it fully throughout the reading. I really found myself drawn into the story. Undoubtedly, this book serves as a useful resource material for reflection on the idea of God as a great helper by strengthening the faith in him. It is a fantastic work to explore. I can’t wait to look for more into what Fowler has to offer.

Dare to Live Greatly is so much more than what I expected. The author weaves his Navy Seal story into the chapters to portray wisdom of how to live a godly life. Some topics include your life purpose, choosing integrity, turning to God to help you instead of turning to an addiction, choosing your friends wisely, how to overcome fear and instead use it positively, being cautious of what you allow to enter your mind, and how to become a better partner. This book is outstanding!
