This was the only book me and my guitar-playing cohort of Long Island outcasts ever needed. It makes a religion out of the pentatonic scale, and it sped me through the early stages of lead rock guitar. Also, it has a way of making you FEEL like you can play, which is the best gift you can give to any late-stage beginner. It's not an instant-gratification YouTube lesson, but a longer-and-slower burning artifact, set ablaze at the black-lit altars of ROCK & ROLL. Shine on you crazy diamonds.

This book has been out there for awhile. I remember it being one of the first instruction books I was introduced to.

The book is well done, but again, was done before the on-slaught of the internet and easily accessible information. "Back then" guitar instruction was predominantly two people exchanging licks and thoughts. I don't remember much being written down other than scribbles on the back of napkins :-)

This book gives some clarity to that as it approaches playing rock and blues from a Pentatonic view point. I would recommend it for someone who has had some instruction, and feel they are starting to have some control over the fret board and want to extend and support that knowledge.

Again, with all the resources available today, this would not be my first choice, but still a good reference.

The material covered in this book is extensive. For me it clarified many things, answering many of my questions and dispelling many of my confusions about music. Doing all the drills as instructed has greatly improved my playing. The book concentrates on the major, blues and relative scales. It covers them very thoroughly. There are many scales and styles not covered but what is dealt with in the book is dealt with in detail and provides a great foundation to approach other scales and styles with greater confidence.

This was a classic book "back in the day". It shows (in a clear manner) how to play guitar solos in blues and rock. While this material would be considered common on the internet today, back when it was released it was the "only" book that had this approach. Nice hand drawn pictures inside, and Daniels was a nice guy, as I had corresponded with him via snail mail.
