Krishna's sister is a story of Subhadra who played a vital role in Mahabharata. Strong women, sister of God, a warrior who shaped Mahabharata even after losing everything. It's a story of her sacrifice, her faith in her brother and herself. A warrior who ruled Arjun's heart. It's an amazing book. A light and a beautiful read that one can dwell in. The way the author narrated the story is amazing. One can connect well with the book. The way she narrated the events felt so real. This book explores the relationship she shared with her brother Krishna, a part of him and Arjun as well as Draupadi. Why the game of dice happen? What happened after they won the battle? This book has a lot more. The writing style of the author is crisp and engaging keeping the reader hooked throughout. A well-detailed book with some facts we are unaware of. It's a normal paced and emotional book. The author developed the characters beautifully. The detailed description of each character is commendable.one can connect to the characters well.I loved the conversations happening in the book. Do not skip this book if you love mythology fiction, it has a lot more. A wonderful book that one must definitely read.
"Chronicles of Kuru Woman Krishna's Sister Vol. 1" by Priyanka Bhuyan is retelling Mahabharata; narrated by Subhadra (Krishna and Balrama’s sister, wife of Arjuna, mother to Abhimanyu). Subhadra narrates the events that unfolded her life, in turn, revolving time's clock, and immersing the third age of men, causing the epic war of Mahabharata.
The author hasn't deprived Subhadra of any emotions, the story begins with unravelling the experiences of Subhadra from her teenage. Author has poignantly described her relations and emotions of the with Krishna and Balarama along with the changing aspects among the Pandavas. Narration is highly appreciable as it keeps the readers hooked while unfolding the incredible mysteries of a courageous single mother in the war of Kurukshetra, her engagement with Kuru Dynasty, the vividness of her nature; her transformations from a princess to a rebellious warrior and a mother. Each transformation delighted with the touch of narrative brilliance. I’d appreciate the author's attempt in portraying the story of Mahabharata from the angle of another less popular yet important female character of the epic war. The characterization and the experiments conducted with certain written elements elements is nicely executed. The way the author has built up the conclusion, and narrated her way through it, shall get you enthralled making the book a promising read for Mythology lovers.
True love is something which goes beyond physical presence. You belong to that person even through physically you may not be together. As I have stated earlier the kingship of epic battle Mahabharat has always fascinated more me than any other mythological act of our country. This book follows story and view of a very backdrop character from the tale of Mahabharat which is Subhadra the sister of Lord Krishna and Balram. Her relationship with her brothers and her brought up as a princess warrior of Darwka that in times whenever it comes to save her kingdom she is all geared up to do it wisely. The extent of fears and insecurities she faced to get marry to the only person she loved Arjuna yet she didn't let her warrior and queen character fall down. As much as we know about the sacrifice of Darupadi & Kunti somewhere the unheard story of Subhadra lacks behind but the author did a great work in portraying her as the main protagonist. It's been ages since women has to sacrifice her happiness for the aid of wellbeing whether being her house, love Or her children but no one seeks their inputs and put them as a last inputs. The description of character was very well written her story of being a warrior, immense love towards her husband and brothers, her sacrifice for being apart from her husband , her grief of loosing her only child was so beautifully described.
I would like to thanks author @authorpriyanka for sending this story my way to feel connected with the character whose story gets lost over the time. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
My recommendation - Mythological fictions fan here is your next pick up to read. Also if you are beginners you can very easily read and connect with the story.
Mahabharata from the eyes of Krishna's sister might be a just way to explain the book. Priyanka Bhuyan, the author of the novel 'Krishna's Sister' narrates the story of Subhadra- a princess, a queen, a mother, a lover, but above all Krishna's sister. When the great war of Mahabharata commences, she finds herself right at the centre of it. Her heart and mind are fighting a battle of its own. Was she only a pawn in the game? Or was she part of a greater divinity? Everyone is born with a purpose, what is hers in this great epic?
The first of its kind book on Subhadra. We know about a lot of characters in Mahabharata but somehow this character didn't come into the limelight. The author portrayed Subhadra's nature and perspective beautifully. The best thing was that they appeared human. The narration was simple yet encompassing. It felt more like history than mythology, and that surely put the story one step forward. The cover and the title of the book played such a strong role in the formation of the novel. I had tears in my eyes towards the end, and the conclusion was definitely my favourite part.
Even though we know the epic of Mahabharata, this book tells us more. We know, yet we don't, and it keeps the curiosity alive. The slight flaw would be the places where facts are repeated. It didn't affect the reading, but without it, the book would have been simply flawless.
Overall, I would recommend this book, especially to beginners in mythology. This book is a great introduction to the world of myths.
☘️"If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost" By Lord Krishna . 💠Book Name -- Krishna's Sister 💠 Author Name -- Priyanka Bhuvan . 🍂Krishna is Hindu god and considered the eighth incarnation of Vishnu. Krishna’s adventures are recounted in the Mahabharata, the Bhagavad Gita, the Harivamsa and the sacred collection of texts known as the Puranas where Krishna is described as the Supreme Being and creator of the universe. Krishna acted as the warrior-prince Arjuna’s charioteer in the Great War, the Battle of Kurukshetra, between the Pandavas (whom Krishna supported) and the Kauravas. It was on the eve of this battle that Krishna recounted the sacred song of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna. . 🍂The story is about Subhadra, Krishna's sister who is princess and great warrior. Author has narrated her life starting from her wish to getting married to whom she loves, living without Arjuna for 13years just for her child's sake, losing her son in Mahabharata war to give training to her grandchildren and dying peacefully in jungle. . 🍂Author has Beautifully written pre and post narration of Mahabharata from her perspective. Lord Krishna's smile ,his thinking ,his way of explaining things to subhadra everything was mesmerizing.I have read Bhagwat Gita but still i was not knowing this much about subhadra, like now i know after reading this book. The bonding between subhadra and lord Krishna was so emotional and beautiful. One important point which i like is that everytime women have to bear pain and suffer for the misdeeds of the men, they have to pay price for it wheather its losing beloved, parents or one and only son in war. Draupadi and Karna characters are nicely described. Best part was when lord was biding good bye to subhadra ,it was so so emotional. The map drawn on first page which explains kingdom of pandavas and Kauravas was very informative. The symbol of bow and arrow on every page was adding beauty to the book. Book is very informative with easy to understand language and smooth transition.
The book Krishna's Sister is Mahabharata from the point of view of Subhadra (Krishna's Sister). The story of Subhadra has never got much limelight though her sacrifice, struggle and bravery is no less than the other important characters of Mahabharata. The book starts with Subhadra as the Princess of Dwarka to becoming the Queen of Arjun. When she eloped with Arjun she was the one who rode the chariot to make it look as if she was the one who had abducted him , to save him from the wrath of her elder brother Balram and other people of Dwarka. Interesting right !! She was fierce yet soft hearted. Just after some happy months with her husband she had to get separated from him for 13 years. She single handedly raised her son in Dwarka. Soon after her reunion with her family she lost her 16 year old brave son, Abhimanyu in the Kurukshetra War. Though she was completely broken but she was never defeated. And the biggest shock in her life was the fall of Dwarka and death of Krishna. But however situations were she always showed the most bravest side of her.
I completely fell in love with her character. She had everything but at the same time she also lost her most precious things. The ending of this book gets really emotional.
I remember when I went to Jaganath Mandir, I questioned my mom why Subhadra is been worshipped but there was no precise answer from her but after reading this book it really satisfied my quest. Subhadra will forever be one of my most admired characters from Mahabharata. Thanks to the author for highlighting up such a beautiful character.
Krishna's Sister by Priyanka Bhuyan is a mythological fiction of Mahabharata narrated from Subhadra's view who is the sister of Krishna and Balarama. I knew the story of Mahabharata so well as I had watched the Tv series years ago. Mahabharata mainly focuses on Draupati, Pandavas who were fighting for justice and Kauravas who were fighting for the throne. Subhadra doesn't play a major role in Mahabharata so it was unique and different to know the story from her point of view.
The story "Krishna's Sister" starts from the younger life of Subhadra, princess of Dwarka. The brother-Sister bond between Krishna and Subhadra was very well explained throughout the book. Whenever she felt insecure or worried the first person she seeks was her brother Krishna. As this story is from her pov I get to know more about their relationship.
Subhadra's love for Arjuna, one of the Pandavas, was so beautifully described in this book. I loved the way the author had explained the pain she had gone through because of the war and the death of her only son Abhimanyu. I love the ending as it revealed something I haven't know before. I felt that it would have been great if the story had started from Subhadra's childhood days. It's a good read recommended to all the mythological lovers.
The book 'Krishna's sister' is an entrancing Indian epic retold from the perspective of Subhadra who is a sister of Lord Vishnu's incarnation Krishna. The story starts with the discourse of five pandavas. They discuss about the political alliance with Dwaraka. The story transposes to Dwaraka. Subhadra's character description is conspicuos and venturesome. She is a valiant woman who desires to choose her husband but deep inside her heart she is in love with one of the five Pandavas Arjun. The story retracts her misery when she comes to know about Arjuna's marriage with Draupadi. Readers will get glued to the pages to know what happens in Subhadra's life and how she manages to marry Arjun. I loved the author's narration and character description, though we might have heard Mahabharata from various perspectives, this book still shimmers in its character description and narration.
Most importantly I was attracted towards Subhadra's thoughts in the story. She opposes the political game of kings through polygamy and her love for Arjun is transcendant. Author's creativity lies in the contemplation of Subhadra. She contemplates about her marriage with Arjuna and she loathes the cousins rivalry. You might have heard Mahabharata through different narrations, nevertheless Priyanka Bhuyan's 'Krishna's sister' is unique!
Mahabharata is an epic that we're all aware of. The story revolves around the Pandavas and Kauravas. Many women too played a vital role in the tale and few did go unnoticed. This book introduces us to one such lesser known names of Mahabharata, Krishna's sister Subhadra. She is also the wife or Arjuna and mother to Abhimanyu. The book takes us through the story of Subhadra as a princess, warrior, sister, mother and a strong willed woman. The tale of Mahabharata is retold from her perspective. It would turn out to be an interesting read for all mythological story lovers.
This is the first mythological story that I have read, it is a part of Mahabharata. The story conveys to us the unrecognized life of Subhadra. The plot begins by introducing Subhadra as a princess who seeks true love. Eventually, she finds Arjuna to be the most compatible one for her. She makes everyone accept her decision by the support of her brother Krishna. In the course of time, her life complications are the ones that made her even stronger especially in the time of kurukshetra war tackling the terrifying events she eventually becomes the more powerful queen.
Those circumstances tolerated by Subhadra are more beautifully portrayed by the author that makes us indulge entirely in succeeding lines. It gives us a sort of curiosity to know the further events.
The book has a page where the India map is placed along with kingdoms. The author has amazingly narrated in the view of Subhadra. The story is gripping. She has also made the character development in an easy way. The language used is simple. This is a wonderful book for mythology lovers. I enjoyed reading the story of Subhadra. Overall I recommend it by giving a rating of 4.5/5. Thanks, @kitabekeed for the book. Invincible publishers
Krishna's Sister by @authorpriyanka Thank you @invinciblepublishers for copy❤. . 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙡𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙖𝙣 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙌𝙪𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙡𝙡 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙡𝙮 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙.
#Insight- I have read, watched, heard Mahabharata or excerpts of it various times. But I admit that I was lured again into some connecting story of Mahabharata from this book and right from it's elegant cover designed by @authorpriyanka and @invinciblepublishers
These days Myth-fictions are already in trend but let me clarify this is not a myth fiction or adaption. I genuinely loved the gesture of the author that she wrote the whole book factually relevant and from the point of view of 'Subhadra' -Krishna's sisters and let me tell you it's completely worth.
#Review- The story begins from the pre-Mahabharata era where the young princess 'Subhadra' is the protagonist and her royalty, wisdom and capabilities are contrasted with her brother Balram's wish for her to get married and her openness to her brother Krishna. Story progresses only to get sublimed intricately in to her marriage with Arjun. And eventually the story narration of Mahabharata and post Mahabharata from narration perspective of Shubhadra. I was sincerely awestruck to read and know about the fate of the whole dynasty and how it was finally ruled by Subhadra as a Queen.
The book is fascinating from its paper quality to first page where a beautiful map is drawn to convey the idea of kingdoms. To its evey page the Bow & arrow caricature makes it very visual.
#Target audience- It's a book for every age. But I as a kid always loved these kind of stories from indian to greek mythology.
#Language- Language is simple easy yet very gripping and editing is nicely done and even not so avid readers can enjoy this book.
#Drawbacks- Some Grammatical Errors.

I think I finally understand what love can make out of a woman. Krishna’s Sister was a truly delightful read—simple in its telling, yet profoundly impactful in its emotions.
Subhadra has always fascinated me. Despite being a goddess herself and an integral part of the Kuru dynasty, she is so often reduced to labels: Krishna’s sister, Arjuna’s wife, Abhimanyu’s mother. Rarely do we pause to see her—the woman behind these identities.
I’ve read countless retellings of the Mahabharata and explored the lives of many queens of the Kuru clan, but Subhadra’s story has always felt personal to me. I admired her journey—from a cherished princess to a rebellious lover, and finally to a devoted mother. While we rightly sympathise with Draupadi, Kunti, and Gandhari, Subhadra’s sacrifices are often overlooked, quietly buried beneath grander narratives.
I’ve always wondered: What happened to her? What did she feel? What was her side of the story? This book answered those questions in the most heartfelt way. It made me feel every emotion she must have lived through.
From her upbringing as the beloved princess of her clan, the apple of Balarama’s and Krishna’s eyes, to her tender, almost childlike emotions toward Krishna—the portrayal was deeply soothing. Her relationships with her parents and sisters-in-law were written with such warmth and nuance. Even Kunti, whom we’ve heard so much about through other stories, felt more layered and understandable through Subhadra’s lens.
When it comes to love, while the tale of Subhadra and Arjuna’s elopement is well known, this book beautifully explores how deeply she wanted that love. Her affection for Arjuna, her hesitation, her vulnerability, and the way she slowly learns to share a love she once wanted only for herself—it was all portrayed with such honesty. Arjuna’s promises, the persuasion, the fragile hope of a young woman—it all felt achingly real. It made me pause and reflect on how, at heart, we are still those little girls wanting the world for ourselves.
Her relationship with Draupadi was equally admirable, layered with understanding and quiet strength. And then came the war—the sacrifices she made, the losses she endured. For me, Subhadra lost the most. She could have avoided it all, yet she chose not to. That choice, that courage, made her the most admirable character of all.
Her sacrifices—for both her husband and her son—are beyond comprehension. I know I could never have done what she did.
The writing itself was a joy to read. Experiencing the epic through Subhadra’s perspective felt intimate and powerful. The character development throughout the story was seamless and commendable, making every emotion land exactly where it should.
Krishna’s Sister doesn’t just tell a story—it gives a voice to a woman who deserved to be heard long ago.
4/5 stars KRISHNA'S SISTER is the story of Subhadra (sister of Krishna and Balaram, and wife of Arjun). The reason that this book is interesting is that it brings forth a story and gives a voice to this another lesser-known woman from the Mahabharata. Recent mythological fiction novels have become a popular source and stronghold for the feminist viewpoint, with the help of which, the female characters are given a chance to bring their stories to the forefront. We all know that the Mahabharata is full of various related stories, but often they are ignored so as to not confuse the reader. However, this was a great attempt by the author to share the story of Subhadra, a sister of a God, but also a warrior and an independent and strong woman, on her own terms, as well as a goddess herself, worshipped in the Jagannath temple at Puri. The story was an emotional one that tugs on my heartstrings. It is about Subhadra - her life and her struggles, and the utter tragedies that befell her. But most of all, it is about how she overcame them all to emerge victoriously. The author has written the story in a fluid way - we see the elements of family brought in, along with the love shared among brothers and sisters, the romantic love and subsequent pining she finds with Arjuna, and her later strife as a woman in society. The narration was on point, because despite the fact that all of this happened in the epics, thousands of years ago, the reader cannot help but relate with Subhadra. I cried with her, her pain, and her sacrifices. And like her, I too questioned the ways in which women have to sacrifice so much. The author also explored her journey from being a Princess of the Yadav clan to being a queen in the Kuru dynasty, her relationships, and the dynamics among the Pandavas, with Draupadi and Kunti. Her relationship with Krishna was an adorable one and I loved the glimpses we got of the Lord. Like all epics, the idea of destiny and fate is very powerful and prevalent here. Just like in the Greek dramas of West, of Sophocles, Homer, and Euripides, the inevitability of fate catching up to you, or the human strife and failure, to outrun it and escape it is very powerful in the Mahabharata as well. Especially if you consider the end of the Yadav clan but the continuation of the Kuru clan with the help of Krishna's intervention. The author with her concise writing has kept the reader intrigued and engaged until the very end. I truly enjoyed reading this book and I hope the author comes up with the rest of the books in the series soon!
Being such a vast epic, Mahabharata has been retold many times and from many different points of views. However, there are still many characters who have not yet got their due recognition in the part they played in the Great War.
Krishna’s Sister (Chronicles of Kuru Woman Vol.1) by Priyanka Bhuyan takes up the story from the Point of View of Subhadra, Krishna’s Sister & Arjuna’s Wife. The story traces the journey of Subhadra from being a fierce warrior and a princess of Dwarka to the wife of Arjuna and how the actions of the Kuru Dynasty that led to Mahabharata affected her. It also brings out to fore the role she played in the war and how her decisions also changed the course of history. Being a rebellious princess, she refuses her matrimonial alliance with Duryodhana, choosing Arjuna over him. The book deals with her choices, sometimes from the head, sometimes from the heart and how each of them had an impact. This is the story of a woman who had everything one could wish for yet who lost everything but eventually went on to lead the empire of Bharatvarsha.
Krishna’s Sister has a solid plotline in which the journey of the protagonist, that is, Subhadra, can be seen from being a Princess to a Warrior and a Queen and finally to a Goddess. The story has been crafted nicely with the nuances of each character coming to the forefront. Priyanka has beautifully changed the perspective of Mahabharata and we get to know how she, along with Arjuna changed the events of the war. The book also explores her relationships with Draupadi, Krishna, Balarama and Arjuna.
The primary character for the story is Subhadra and she has been crafted in a very detailed manner. We get to see various facets of her life and a deeper understanding of the characters of Mahabharata from her perspective also come to light. Her transformation from a princess to a warrior queen and finally to a goddess is treated nicely.
Overall, a decent read and I would love to see how the author treats other characters in the series.
Book name:-Chronicles of kuru women: Krishna's sister vol.1 Authored by:- Priyanka Bhuyan Cover judgment:- The cover page of this book is quite eye-catching as it features an audacious woman with a bow in her hands and ready to tackle any worst scenario she encounters with. A beautiful peacock feather is further adding to the aesthetic look. Mythological tales interest me a lot and if they have a corpulent cover like this one then it is surely a "Cherry on the cake". The cover page deserves a 4.5 out of 5. Content check:-Before diving into the eternal world of mythology having several interesting anecdotes. I want to say whenever we hear about mythology, a coupled image of two great epics comes into our mind. But it is an undeniable fact that there is much more than we think. This is a story that went unheard due to a humongous battle that jolted everything. This book is a mythological fiction of the life and story of princess Subhadra.Despite having a brother who ruled the world (Lord Krishna) she suffered a lot, went through pain and lost almost everything she had. But even when all the odds were in a counterclockwise direction as of hers, she stood firm and gave a major hit back. The way the author has described that how she courageously lead the empire of Bharatvarsha after everything was decremented to almost nothing due to a fierce battle that had happened is something that makes this story worth reading. The story also describes her relationship with her husband Arjuna and co-wife Draupadi. I loved how characters have been described because it is not at all a facile task to give mythological characters a shape that is worth reading. But the author splendidly handled everything and gave us all a categorical insight into this world. I would also like to admire the tones used ranging from deeply concerned to hostile. Somewhere description went too flat but overall it is a nice and thought-provoking read. Things I liked:- Map for a deep and better understanding Illustrations Description Overall rating:-4.5/5 Do give it a read.
I've always been fascinated by the tale of Mahabharata and how it all came to be. However, I've always been curious to know more about the women that were also an important part of this epic saga and had to fight their own battles in the war of dharma but since they weren't given much exposure which always made them seem like secondary characters even though they deserved to be in spotlight.
This book, however takes upon itself to show us the events of Mahabharat folding, from a whole new perspective. We see the journey through Subhadra's eyes.
The story highlights the struggles of an independent mother in the era of the Gods, and the pain she went upon the loss of her child Abhimanyu who she brought up solely herself, albeit the cause was the greater Good, the path of dharma.
It compliments all aspects of her personality really well. The reader gets to see her warrior side, the graceful side but most importantly her relationship with her brothers; Krishna and Balaram, since their childhood. All things considered, her greatness as a mother, a sister and a warrior is all focused upon and I loved that the author touched upon so many phases of her life. The aftermath of the war, after she loses everything is painful to read and yet the way she handles it, her resilience is inspiring.
The writing style is easy and generic allowing the reader to relate to it and experience something new. The author has done a lot of research and it shows in the final product.
Overall, if you're a fan of Mahabharata and want to read it from a fresh perspective, I'd suggest you give this one a try.
My only complaint is that the grammar and dialogues could've been better.
Mythology is one style in which we got to recognize the different matters from different perspectives. Retelling usually intrigued me and I have read two books which had been being told from female perspective. So when I got danger to read this one, I was once super excited to study and know about duryodhana's Queen. Mahabharata is Always about Pandavas and Kauravas. We understand why and how that war began but we do not know about queens who suffered in this war. This e book is being narrated by sturdy and kind queen Bhanumati. Frankly speaking, I wasn't understanding about Bhanumati, duryodhana's Queen. She was being pressured to marry duryodhana but later she falls in love with him. She talks about duryodhana whom we do not know. She tells duryodhana's different roles as son, husband and father. The story suggests different gentle side of duryodhana aside from his anger and jealous nature. The story will give you specific insights of Mahabharata which were unknown to me. In this story Bhanumati talks from her childhood to her remaining days in Kalinga. Bhanumati was absolutely kind queen who usually choose the route of Dharma. She tried to stop this struggle in each and each possible way. She tried to make duryodhana apprehend how Shakuni is using him for his benifit however everything went in vain. She used to be real warrior and was once really loving. Talking about narration which was once really exceptional and smooth. The Author has done appropriate amount of lookup to write this book from female perspective. The language is easy. Mythology lovers if you have not already read this one, go for it.
Thank you to @kitabikeedaofficial ;for evaluate copy.
It's a mythological tale which highlights the infamous character of Mahabharata, sister of Krishna i.e. Subhadra. Subhadra being a warrior, queen and goddess holds a lot of importance in that arena. The whole story revolves around her, right from her childhood to adolescent age and until she breathes last. Her journey from a Yadu princess to a Kuru woman is described vividly. Subhadra was a beautiful, intelligent and fearless women of Indian history and her sacrifices are worthy to mention. How she was headed strong despite of various ups and down of her life is very inspiring to read, right from the separation of her husband Arjuna for such a long years and loosing her only son Abhimanyu in the battle. Her sisterhood and friendship with Krishna as well as with Balaram is a treat to read. And her relationships and the understanding with Draupadi is commendable.
We all the know about the battle of kurukshetra, and the emerging causes and the outcomes of Mahabharata but a little bit we know about the role of the women of that time, the quality they possess and the suffering they had to go through. So this story retold and picturized from the view point and life of Subhadra is a definite thing to learn. The language is easy and the narration is fast paced. The simplicity of this author's writing is what I liked the most. The cover is beautiful and the title is apt for the theme of the story. It's a short read, one can finish it in one sitting also. I enjoyed reading it and will definitely recommend to mythology lovers and also for beginners.
A few days ago I read 'The Palace of Illusions', a novel by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni and I completely fell in love with this new version of Mahabharata which interpreted the events of Hindu epic story, told through the lens a woman married to the five Pandava brothers, the greatest heroes of their time – Panchali.
Though numerous years and generations have passed in contemporary life from Panchali’s, her life’s events are surprisingly similar to the many trials and tribulations faced by today’s women.
I found this similarity in both the books as, being Krishna's Sister from Mahabharata, the story is about Subhadra's journey, and she was also the second wife of Arjun, Panchaali's first husband.
The story of Subhadra has never got much limelight though her sacrifice, struggle, and bravery is no less than the other important characters of Mahabharata.
One of my fav quotes- "If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost" By Lord Krishna.
The author beautifully portrayed Subhadra's character; I loved reading and knowing more about her throughout the book. The way the author has described the conversations between Lord Krishna and Subhadra is like emotions flowing out of those words. The language is easy and it's a fast-paced read. It's a short book of 15 0pages and I tore finished it in no time.
A map is provided at the beginning to help us understand the places better.
** Bonus point- A picture of the map explains the kingdom of Pandavas and Kauravas, given in the book.
5 stars from me, overall a good read and would recommend this book to all.
"Put up a brave face no matter how life throws you off balance"
Krishna's sister, Arjun's wife and Abhimanyu's mother, yet so less unwritten of. This is a book that says the saga of Mahabharata from Subhadra's eyes.
Subhadra was a Warrior Princess of Dwaraka. She always wanted to have a joyous family and an affectionate husband. Indeed she got one. Married in the Kuru Clan of Bharatvarsha, little did she realized what destiny has decided for her.
Foremost, the separation of 13 years from her husband, raising her son single-handedly and then the havocs that war bought to her life. She stood the test of time heroically for her brother Krishna always told her, she was made for a special purpose and Subhadra was a part of him.
She saw the doom of Kauravas, the end of her own family at Dwarka and moving away of the Pandavas for heaven. She was the only one left to build the Kingdom with her grandson.
The book though, fast-paced because it was more on Subhdra than the epic Mahabharata but I so much liked it because it utters of a woman about whom I know so little and I guess everyone else too.
I really recognize the author for putting this entire epic from her viewpoint. I guessed, it will tell the old told story but to my surprise, there were so many things I didn't know about until I read the book.
I am a mythology fan. However, people doubt if these things actually occurred but these stories always teach you some greatest life lessons.
Krishna's sister by author Priyanka Bhuyan is a mythological fiction relating to the Hindu epic Mahabharata . This book is a unique retelling from the perspective of Subhadra, Krishna's and balrama's sister ,wife of Arjuna. The book takes you on the journey of the life of dwarka's princess turning into the queen of kuru dynasty. The readers will get to know about this lesser known character and the hardships she had to face throughout her life. The author has done a commendable job in writing a book that brings in sight the sacrifices that were made and how she emerged successful and victorious. That today ,in jagganath temple ,subhadra is worshipped as a goddess. This journey of Arjuna's wife is an inspiration of the readers. It also explores the relationship she shared with her brother and mentor Lord Krishna as well as her husband Arjuna and co-wife Draupadi. 🌼🌼🌼🌼 My Take:- 1) I love mythological fiction, because it gives us a different perspective to think over the stories we have been beleiving since ages. 2) I feel it is important to write about the Strong female characters in the history because The world is and has been very male dominant since ages and because of that we have been hearing only about the strong male characters and female characters are written and shown just as the support which is not true. 3) I really appreciate author for writing so beautifully and strongly about Subhadra and explaining her emotions so beautifully, i really felt every emotion written. 4) I found the language easy. 5) The writing was gripping and kept me hooked to the story. 6) The characterisation was done very well. 7) I sometimes felt some strings were left loose and some scenes could been elaborated more. 8) I recommend this book to all the mythological lovers and to all the people who want to start reading mythology, and i really encourage people to read about all the strong women of the past and remember them as well. 🌼🌼🌼🌼
We all know the story of Mahabharata, about birth and life of Krishna. But are we aware of story of Krishna’s sister? Not many know Subhadra existed. Chronicles of Kuru Woman vol 1 is the tale of Subhadra, a princess and a brave warrior herself.Subhadra is known to Krishna and Balarama’s sister, wife of mighty Arjuna. In this book the author retells epic Mahabharata from Subhadra's point. The story starts with childhood days of the little princess and how she grew up in Dwarka. The sister brothers bond is penned so beautifully. The warrior princess is in love with Arjuna which leads her being a single mother to Abhimanyu. It was almost 13 years she waited for her husband and sacrifices her son in the battle. This mythological story describes untold truths of Mahabharata and also unseen side of Subhadra. Review: The map of India before battle helps us understand even better about the dynasties and provices. From then till present sacrifice of women remains constant. The author does a good job in portraying Subhadra as main lead and narrating untold stories of her. The character is penned effectively with vivid descriptions at necessary points. The transformation of protagonist from royal child to warrior then to wife then to losing everything and living for son is expressed in a touching narrative way. The title hints about the plot. Cover reveals about the protagonist identity and is very attractive. Language used is simple and effective. Gripping storyline and engaging narration is smooth. Overall light and engaging read. Recommended to mythology readers specially.
The book comes up with the story in Subhadra's Point of View, Krishna's sister and Arjuna's wife. The story follows Subhadra's journey from being a fierce war with the Dwarka princess to Arjuna's wife and how the actions of the Kuru dynasty that led to the Mahabharata affected her. It also reveals how he became involved in war and how his decisions changed history. As a rebellious queen, she rejected her romantic alliance with Duryodhana, choosing Arjuna over him. The book deals with her choices, sometimes from the head, sometimes from the heart and how each of them contributed. This is the story of a woman who had everything she could wish for right now but who has lost everything but ended up leading the Bharatvarsha empire.
Krishna’s sister has a solid scene where the traveler’s journey, i.e., Subhadra, can be seen from being a Warrior to a Queen and finally to a Goddess. The story is well-crafted with the intricacies of the sounds of each character coming forward. Priyanka has positively changed the Mahabharata's perspective. The book also analyzes his relationship with Draupadi, Krishna, Balarama and Arjuna.
The main character of this story is Subhadra and it is portrayed in a very detailed way. We see various aspects of her life and the rich understanding of the Mahabharata characters from her point of view is also evident. Her transformation from a princess to a queen of war and finally to a goddess is well treated.
All in all, it was a good read and I would like to see how the author treats other characters in the series.
We have been told a lot of stories about Lord krishna but never ever about his half sister Subhadra. I am surprised how little we know of Indian Mythology.
Krishna's Sister by @authorpriyanka
Genre - Mythological Fiction
The book is about Subhadra sister of Krishna and Balarama. A brave sister , a brave wife and a brave mother. She played an important role in shaping Mahabharata. It was only because of Subhadra that the royal line continued. Her son Abhimanyu provided the sole heir for kingdom Kuru after everything was reduced to nothing in the battle of kurushetra. She made many sacrifices, lost everything yet she rose which shows what a woman of great strength she was. Lord Krishna once said that everyone is born for some purpose.....And it seems Subhadra's was to provide an heir who could continue the bloodline.
#review - First of all thanks to the author for writing this book otherwise i wouldn't have known about Subhadra. The story line is extremely gripping. It narrates about the pre and post era of Mahabharata or kurushetra war. I love how the author has portrayed the bond between Lord krishna and his sister Subhadra. The way the author has written the conversations between Lord Krishna and Subhadra is like emotions oozing out of those words. The language is easy and it's a fast paced read. It's a short book of 150pages and i tore through it in no time. A map is provided at the beginning to help us understand the places better. A must read for everyone.
"And it is time Draupadi to learn and accept that Arjun cannot belong to her alone. I know there will be turbulence but I rely that the shadow of Krishna will be no less than him and with her wit and brain will find a way in this palace" . Krishna's sister is an intricate character herself to study about and her story equally intriguing. The story begins with a concise introduction to the characters and jumps to the marriage discussion of Krishna's sister. . It is a short read and the narration preserves the beauty of mythology, the storytelling similar to a contemporary novel makes it easier to understand and visualize the whole plot. The cover of the book is beautiful, and so is the inside, the balance among the segments of the story makes its presentation more clear. . It is the first part of the story which will be continued, and the smooth ending intentional or not, but gives a sense of stand-alone novel. You can wait for the second part of itself the book seemed to be complete. . The value os the story revolves around the representation of mythological stories, the resemblance to the original story is there but still, that does not give the specific reason to read it. The reason still revolves around the concept of entertainment and pleasing a mythology lover. Well crafted and woven plot, narration, and characters serve a good foundation, but the main part of retelling should be something to be more detailed and fascinating.

No: of pages: 153 🗡️ Hola bookworms! How about a tale on the unknown facets of a woman goddess?🖋️ 🗡️ The author Priyanka Bhuyan is a freelancer since college and reading is her passion since childhood, apart from traveling and music. 🗡️ The story is set in the ancient period of Pandavas and Kauravas. The protagonist is a woman - Subhadra, the sister of Lord Krishna, is a fiery rebellious princess. She is trained in all warfare methods and grows up to be a well-trained Yadava woman. She loves both her brothers equally, but is closer to Krishna, whom she always looks up to for guidance. The story traverses through her marriage with Arjuna, the birth of her son Abhimanyu and finally her part in the famous Kurukshetra war. When Subhadra thinks she has got everything she wanted, she begins to lose everything she owned and is finally left to lead her empire. 🗡️ This book is an intriguing tale with the main protagonist as a woman. We might have read many versions of Mahabharatha, but reading the same story from the perspective of a woman is refreshing. One will tend to fall in love with her fiery yet caring nature as the story progresses. The way she loves Arjuna transcends other love stories and she is made to pay the price for Draupadi's mistake. Well peeps, grab this book and take a sneak peek into the life of the sister of Krishna who has shaped Mahabharatha after her kingdom was reduced to nothing!
🌻In "Chronicles of Kuru Woman: Krishna's Sister," Priyanka Bhuyan takes us on a captivating journey through the Mahabharata, shining the spotlight on an often-overlooked character, Subhadra, Krishna's sister and Arjuna's wife.
🌻The story begins in Subhadra's teenage years in Dwaraka, where she lives with her family, giving readers a glimpse into Krishna's life as a brother and a son. This portrayal adds depth to Krishna's character, showing him as more than just a divine figure but also as a caring family man.
🌻Author beautifully portrays Subhadra as a strong woman, taking us through her various life stages, from a young woman to a grandmother. It's refreshing to see her perspective on the events of the Mahabharata, offering a new angle to the epic tale.
🌻One of the book's important themes is the role of women in the war and the sacrifices they make. Author highlights how women often bear the brunt of the conflict, losing everything and being left behind to rebuild their lives.
🌻As someone who loves reading Indian mythology, especially from the perspective of lesser-known characters or women, "Chronicles of Kuru Woman" resonated deeply with me. I've enjoyed exploring characters like Mandodari, Urmila, Suparnakha, Draupadi, Subhadra, and Kunti. "Sita's Sister" by Kavita Kane is one of my favorites, and I found similarities between Subhadra and Urmila, both sacrificing so much.
🌻I originally read this book in 2022 and loved it so much that I wrote a review, which unfortunately got lost. However, rereading it this year only reaffirmed my admiration for Bhuyan's storytelling. Every mythology lover should read "Chronicles of Kuru Woman: Krishna's Sister" for its fresh perspective and captivating narrative
