The proven, frustration-free way to make your business stand out online, from one of North America's leaders on digital marketing for small businesses.
Today, you can launch a website, create social media feeds, and get products and services to market on some of the world’s most powerful sales platforms in a matter of hours. But marketing your small business effectively takes some careful thought. In See You on the Internet, Avery Swartz, one of North America's top tech leaders, gives you a failsafe framework to plan and execute a brilliant digital marketing strategy with confidence. And you don't need a technical background to follow it. In five simple steps, you will learn to build your brand, increase your customers, and generate more revenue.
Avery Swartz has spent fourteen years on the ground working directly with hundreds of clients as a web designer, instructor, consultant, and digital advisor. With the aid of real-life stories and examples, she will guide you through the ins and outs of website development, e-commerce, search engine optimization, social media, email marketing, and online advertising --- and you'll be able to track all of your results. See You on the Internet is a clear, friendly, and highly usable guide for anyone in a small business or similar organization to thrive in the digital world.
I hear a lot of small business owners and self-published authors talk about marketing like it's the lost library of Alexandria. Everyone has more or less heard of it, no one has any idea how to get there or how to build a successful expedition.
Avery Swartz has been teaching people about marketing small businesses on the Internets for a good 20 years. She also is a TV tech host who does guest spots on morning shows in Canada. Which means she's really good at explaining things in accessible language.
If you are new to the land of marketing and want some general, no-nonsense principles for what to do, Swartz is the guide you want.
This book will walk you through making a goal, building a plan, measuring the plan and refining it once you have data with all the bells and whistles of digital marketing (websites, SEO, social media, etc.).
What I like most about this book is the direct approach and clear explanations. I hope Swartz does a second edition soon to update for the TikTok era.
Fantastic, Practical Resource I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. What a great resource for business owners as they identify what makes the most sense for them and their business with regard to digital marketing. The author breaks down all of the essentials for business owners, whether new or established, regarding websites, content, SEO, security, and more. She provides actionable steps for readers to take and uses relatable examples throughout the text. Highly recommend!
A handy guide to small business marketing that says all the things you’d get searching websites on your own. But what sets it apart is the commentary and insight Swartz brings to this topic.
I hope there’s an updated edition in the next year or two since the social tools and the like change so often, but Swartz’s pragmatism and step-by-step instruction is timeless.
This is a little book packed with solid, practical advice on how to create and maintain a marketing presence online. There are chapters on websites, social media, advertising, SEO, email lists, security, and other relevant topics. It's clearly written and pragmatic.
I got this from the library but I'm going to buy a copy for my shelf, because Swartz's advice is evergreen and will scale with my business.
Your digital marketing efforts should always be based on your business needs and goals. First, decide on what you are working towards and then choose platforms and metrics that suits the business. Whether you opt for a website, or ads, your content should be valuable to your audience, and should also encourage them to engage with the business. In addition, you could significantly widen your audience in finding appropriate partnerships and communities in the industry. You could always start by introducing yourself and offer to contribute while making sure that you are not in direct competition. Then, give others opportunities on your own platforms.
Great book for small to medium business owners who want to understand how to utilize the power of the internet in order to promote their business and products. Covers a lot of the basics and explains things in simple terms using examples and experience that the author has gained over the years. Being a small business owner myself (I own a small web design consultancy in Calgary called cliowebsites.com), and I think that a lot of the clients I work with would benefit from the knowledge and expertise in this book.
If you're looking to transform your business digitally, this is the book to guide you. I'm a UX designer who lives and breathes tech but Avery continued to drop knowledge on me. It's definitely changed the way I view digital products and now I have a more holistic understanding of how to approach them. I can now better understand what other stakeholders are aiming for. With my new knowledge, I hope I can be a better team member.
Every single business needs a strong digital marketing strategy and this book is the place to start! It has tons of foundational elements that are perfect for any new business looking to gain experience in marketing themselves in modern times. Avery is such a knowledgeable and generous resource for any type of business looking for a framework to guide them through digital marketing basics.
I took one of Avery's Camp Tech classes so I expected this book to be good. It was better than I expected! The first person tone sounds exactly like her when she is teaching a class which is great because she has a way of consistently telling the audience that we've got this. This book is a technical manual and user guide for anyone who is taking on a communication role and I highly recommend it.
It provides overarching framework to digital marketing strategies. It doesn't go deep in each area, but it does provide the bottom line, the methods, the principals. It's like a compass but you still need to learn how to actually sail the boat since digital marketing compasses so many ingredients and different chef cooks different meals.
It was good and filled with lots of helpful information, but I already knew a fair amount of it from doing my own baseline research, and I was also going into it as a small art business but everything felt catered towards bigger “official” business so wasn’t as helpful as I would have liked. Next time I think I’ll read one that specifies artists.
Excellent resource with digestible, need-to-know information, software & app suggestions, and high-level chapter summaries.
If you want a very detailed, step-by-step guide, look for the Dummies book on Digital Marketing. If are looking to get to the nitty-gritty, this is a great read.
It mostly served as confirmation of strategies I've used for many years, but I can see how this book would be a good entry into digital marketing for someone.
Solid advice for absolute beginners with little to no digital experience. Too basic for anyone with a basic grasp of the online world. And useless for anyone looking for advanced or unique tips.
Super great resource for small businesses owners out there! I have a marketing background and I still learned a lot from Avery’s book. Highly recommend this and her resources via Camp Tech!
