Donovan: Forget about the cold and distant bastard who did anything (and whoever for that matter), as he pleases. She consumed him. His thoughts, dreams, works of art and every fibre down to his soul. He was battling this raging war between his conscience and heart as his obsession was the exact thing that was holding him back from her.
Kate: She's trying hard to avoid his stormy gray eyes watching her every move. He makes her uncomfortable as he stares from across the room with his scowling face. Unfortunately, getting over the biggest crush of her life is easier said than done.
Donovan is the second book in the funny, sweet and steamy Lucky Irish series about the love lives of several Irish families in Austin, Texas. Each book is a new sexy romance but let us also catch up with favorite characters from the series.

*I won this novel for my Amazon Kindle from a giveaway on GoodReads and was asked for my honest review*
This novel is #2 in the series, "Lucky Irish" by author; Anna Castor. This is my first read by this author and all I can say is "WOWZA!" Talk about hot and steamy. This novel could easily be read as a stand alone novel. With that being said, I actually had a hard time liking the main character in the beginning but after a few chapters in, I changed my mind and understood where he was coming from. It's a super quick read and you'll enjoy the bantering between families. I'm looking forward to reading novels #1 and #3. Definitely recommend this series, novel and author for a quick summer read. You won't be disappointed!! Happy Reading!!
I really went back & forth about the rating for this book since I'm a BIG fan of Anna Castor, but there was just something that kept me from giving it that last star, as it took some work to really fall for our hero, Donovan. He made some questionable decisions which made the heroine, Katie, feel off though she had a big crush on him, but was trying to move on since he really put out the vibe that he disliked her. I'm not saying that Anna Castor didn't do a good job explaining some things which threw me, and I can't even go on to tell you what they were because no spoilers from me! Anyway, this story is really a journey that brought out quite a few emotions from me. Now, there were twists & turns which kept the f-bombs dropping, and I'm always down for that. And the cast of secondaries almost stole the show from our main characters, plus, they provided some light fun which was needed because there was also a side of big heavy, and Pops was the guy to make me laugh like crazy. I did enjoy the book once I got past some things, but don't take my word for it, hit that one click button to decide for yourselves! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Whilst reading this, I did go through a gamut of emotions towards Donovan as he is not an easy character to fall in love with. He has an instant attraction for Kate but keeps his distance from her. He barely talks or looks at her and when he does he appears disinterested and cold towards her. Kate's attraction for him was instant as well but she doesn't feel she has a chance, particularly given his womanising ways.
Donovan's first interactions with Kate were around protecting her from her sister's stalker ex. Unfortunately he finds it really difficult to let go of protecting her, leading to some bad decisions and having him come across as stalkerish himself. His actions are unjustifiable but you can kind of understand and empathise a little around them. I think it helps that Kate is a strong, independent woman, despite coming across as lacking in confidence. She calls him out and stands up to him, causing him to rethink his approach.
Difficult and challenging at times to relate to and to like Donovan, however, Anna Castor did a good job of walking the line and bringing the reader down on the side of Donovan in the end. This could have easily ended up a completely different read.
Title: Donovan – The Lucky Irish #2 Author: Anna Castor Genre: Contemporary romance My rating: 4 ++
----------------- Anna Castor is a new-to-me author that has made an impression on me. A good one. I haven’t read book #1 (backwards, I know) but that didn’t matter. I understood everything in the second installment. Loved getting to know Donovan. Although, I didn’t like him at first; felt his intrusion into Kate’s life was a bit much. Soon after though, I began warming up to him. Kate was a wonderful character as well. So vibrant and real; softening Donovan’s rough edges. I loved seeing some of the secondary character. Loved the close-knit-family dynamic which made the story lighthearted and hilarious. Definitely recommend reading!
*I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review*
I won a copy of this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway but this is my honest review.
Donovan is book 2 in the Lucky Irish series. It can be read as a standalone but I did go and grab book 1, Duncan, first and read it. While reading Duncan, book 1, I fell in love with the Walsh and Mills families. I enjoyed reading about Donovan and Kate. While Donovan does come across as a bit of a control freak with his need to monitor Kate, I could see it was coming from a good place. So unlike other readers, I didn't have a hard time falling in love with Donovan and cheering for his relationship with Kate.
Donovan is book 2 in the Lucky Irish Series, it can be read as a standalone but I think reader would enjoy it more if read in order. I had a hard time connecting with Donovan at first and that seemed odd to me because I actually enjoyed his banter in book 1. Once everything started rolling and you add Katie's sweet nature, everything works out. Love the hilarious family interaction. Looking forward to Brennan's story.
Donovan is book 2 in the Lucky Irish series. It can be read as a standalone but I always preser read in order. The book one was so good and I love the Walsh and Mills families. The second is Donovan and Kate story. Really enjoyed the book the characters are great. There are stories for some future books and I am waiting for Brennan.
Wow. Stalkerish or what. At least he came clean. Gotta love an alpha male. Gotta love a shy heroine. Can not wait to read Brennan and Errins story. As always keep writing and I will keep reading. Thank you.
Oh how the mighty fall……and make a mess of things. Donovan is the strong silent type who doesn’t know how relationships work…..Kate is the shy silent one who needs TLC……
I loved Donovan & Kate! She was incredibly sweet and I just liked her from the start! I loved Don from Duncan’s book! He was very hot and alpha! The story flowed really well!
September 28, 2020 I first read this series back in February of this year on my Kindle Unlimited account. I just learned that I also won my very on kindle copy. Therefore, hold tight, right after I finish up the series I'm currently reading, I'll read this again and leave a proper review. But thanks for building my kindle collection!!!!
If I thought Declan was an idiot but Dovovan takes the prize for that title. I cannot believe what he did to Kate and of course she was fuming at that. Anyone would. I love Pops as he just makes me chuckle all the time. Kate and Bree’s pupils are just too cute for their own good.
I received a free ARC from BookFunnel in return for a honest review of the book.
I was eagerly expecting the second book of the Lucky Irish series as I just fell in love with the Mills brothers and Walsh sisters. Since I am familiar with the first book Duncan, I did not need so much information as was given in the beginning of the book. However, a nice reminder, about the past events was nice, even though it was long. For someone not familiar with what happened, it is essential.
I was initially not sure how I liked Donovan and his intrusion into Kate's privacy, but the book did a nice job explaining the circumstance and I understood where both came from. It is a tough subject, and I feel Anna did a nice job maneuvering it.
Again, I was delighted to see Pops being a big part of the plot (who doesn't like grumpy, butting-into-everyone's-business, old man?!), as he makes the story lighter and hilarious. I enjoy stories where the entire family is involved as it gives a sense that there are still families out there who aren't completly isolated despite a certain degree of dysfunction and challenges.
Overall, I enjoyed the book a lot. I give it 4.5* overall. The only reason I did not give it 5* is that I feel the subject of stalking and dominance in a relationship in the plot can be a trigger for some people.
Book one wasn't a good book, IMO, but I decided to give this new to me author one more shot. All I can say is at least it only took me two hours to read it. I think this book is falsely advertised as a novel. It cannot possibly be over novella length. The "book" ends at 80%, at least as it's published as of November 2021.
So very little happens in this book. We have Donovan and Kate, siblings to the MCs in book 1, who get together. The only plot is the H fighting his attraction to her and to the idea of having one woman the rest of his life. Well, there's also the plot of what a stalker he has been. I think I would have been slightly offended but would have easily forgiven him, which she does. I also would have been equally flattered.
There is just no meat here. This would work as a short story but not as advertised. While I do like the characters, this needs to be rewritten to actually have a plot. And don't get me started on how stupid it was that Kate and her sister moved to Austin, Texas, without even giving it much consideration in the first book. I could go on about that whole situation for a while.
The sex scenes were, at least, decent.
I definitely will not be reading more by this author anytime soon, but I might check her out a few years down the road to see if she has improved her craft.
I was pretty disappointed in this book. As the second book in the series, I was hoping to get a better glimpse into Donovan. There didn’t seem to be a whole lot of plot and I really didn’t like Donovan’s behavior. He knew what he was doing was hurting Kate, he admitted to seeing the pain in her eyes every time he decided to flirt with other women right in front of her. To go from that to a complete 180 and committing solely to her? I had a hard time forgiving him.
I liked Kate’s character, I saw a lot of myself in her, but I didn’t like how easily she forgave Donovan. I think she should have made him work for it a little harder. I’m glad they got their happily ever after, but the last 20% of the book felt very rushed.
This is the second book in the Lucky Irish series and it can be read as a complete standalone. It took me a little while to warm up to Donovan, I just couldn’t put my finger on it but there was just something. There were questionable interactions with our heroine Kate that was kind of off. Kate had a super big crush on Donovan but he made it seem like he really disliked her. But after the initial stumbles with the story I warmed up to both of the MCs. Kate softened Donovan’s rough edges. I felt the secondary characters stole the show though and Pops was absolutely hilarious!! Overall I would recommend this book.
Donovan was gobsmacked by Kate since the first time he saw her. Instead of exploring his feelings, he ignores her, sleeps around and is rude. He finally decides to man up. Kate's the shy one of her siblings. She's just as attracted to Don but unsure and insecure about his feelings towards her. When they do get together the sex is amazing. Kate finds out something Don hid from her, she decides they need a break. With some soul searching on both their parts, she takes him back and he changes his behavior.
This is a Romance, and this is the second book in the Lucky Irish series. I have not read the first book in this series. I enjoyed reading this book and getting to know all the characters. I found parts of this book to be cheesy, but I found other parts to be super cute and fun. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
I have to say Donovan was not my type of man. It was hard to really like him in the beginning and I struggled through the book. I have never read one of Anna Castor's books. I do like her style of writing and I would gladly read another of her books but this one I just didn't prefer.
I really enjoyed book one but this book was kind of disappointing. It was over fifty percent sex and stalking. I really did not enjoy the storyline at all. The writing is good and I enjoyed seeing the other characters again. Hope book three is better.
Really enjoyed this book. It was had a different approach happening. Kate is different from Kayla. I think Erinn's book will be interesting. Check this series out.
Goodreads win. Really enjoyed the book. Characters are wonderful. You can see where some future books will lead, but still keep you guessing. Can't wait for Brennan to be out
