This may be David canford's best book, but I don't know since I've only read 4 of them. It is just that every book I read of his I cannot put down. I don't kno how he does it, but he does.

Kurt lives in England with his mother and father , but his father leaves for Germany because he wants to fight and Hitler's war. Then during the bombing of London, Kurt's mother sends him to the country where she believes he will be safe. But it is here where he is kidnapped. And if I say any more I'll be Revealing too much of the story.

Afterward. My mind keeps coming back to this book over and over again. It seems to wish one to reflect on it. While I light Kirt's adventure, it was at a great cost to him and to the lives of others. So how can I even like reading such a book?

It is heartbreaking to read what all children went through during this period of time. So many forced to do what they didn't believe in. A very good read, interesting, a good ending for a sad story.

I have read a lot of stories taking place during World War ll , and this book of two young boys and the unbelievable things that happen to them during this time period.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was well written. I think it really shows how children were so often the casualties. fighting for their survival in often horrific ways. The scars left. Kurt being able to decide that acceptance of the situation he found himself in was destructive and soul destroying. ive read a lot of WW2 books, and this is one I would recommend.
