Reece Masardi’s got one goal—keep his ditzy new neighbor, Zany Lanie from turning his life upside down. For one thing, she’s much too adorable with her pet miniature horse and her quirky, do-gooder ways. For another, Reece’s life has been bumpy enough lately, thank you very much, and the last thing he needs is some meddlesome woman sticking her cute little nose in his business
Irrepressible, kind-hearted Lanie Weatherford is on a mission to brighten Reece’s life and teach him how to live again…whether he likes it or not. But what will happen when this unstoppable force of nature meets this decidedly immovable object and all bets are off?
Lori Wilde can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to write. She even went to nursing school so she could have a schedule flexible enough to allow her to write on the side. She nursed for 20 years, working in a variety of settings from the newborn nursery to the recovery room, to dialysis. But she never lost her desire to write.
She sold her first book in 1994 to Silhouette Romance but later discovered she had a flair for comedy and branched out to Harlequin Duets and now, to Blaze.
Lori is an adventuresome soul who loves to travel. She’s taken flying lessons, completed two marathons, rode in a hot-air balloon, performed with a professional jazz band, traveled Europe as a teenager, hiked volcanoes in Hawaii, trod on glaciers in Alaska, shot white-water rapids, water-skied, snow-skied, raced all-terrain vehicles, bodysurfed in the Gulf of Mexico, and photographed grizzly bears in Yellowstone.
She lives in her native Texas, with her own real-life hero, Bill.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It is a sweet and heartwarming story. I finished the book with a smile and a light hearted feeling. Normally, that's my criteria for a 5-star rating. However, I had issues with this book and at times I almost gave up on it.
My main issue was with the female MC, Lanie. She was too zany. She was also too determined to sabotage her own happiness. I found that highly annoying and not sympathetic.
I had minor issues with the male MC, Reece. The way he thought about Lanie sometimes was off-putting. It was demeaning.
Fortunately, the author was able to show chemistry between the pair. She also was able to show the way their relationship grew. The way the two of them changed during their time together. They matured and evolved.
Reece was able to push past the worst parts of Lanie and she was able to overcome his narrow-minded attitude.
I found myself rooting for them and wanting them to succeed as a couple. I got a little tense when a potential female suitor appeared but then I was happy to see the role she played. I'm not a fan of triangles and was happy that this book wasn't headed in that direction.
It is a well written book with characters that are fully developed. It's exactly what I've come to expect from this author.
Side note: This book is set in Virginia. Other than name dropping a couple of places (Williamsburg, Richmond), you'd never know it. The book didn't capture any of the charm found in rural Virginia towns. This could have been set in any small town in the US. This combined with how over the top Lanie was resulted in a 4-star rating instead of a 5.
Here I am again posting about how far behind I am on my reading. If you haven’t read this yet then now’s the time. I was seriously laughing out loud and telling my husband what happened.😂 I’m not much for spoilers but there was a miniature horse inside a feed store chasing a cat.The horse belongs to a new employee who’s neighbors with the owner and her son.She left her horse tied up at her house when she went to work and the owner brought it to the store because she felt bad for it.The owners son has been running the store since his dad died and he’s definitely not happy about having a miniature horse chasing his cat through the store. 😂 Lori Wilde,I’m so glad you’ve entertained my mom and I for so many years. I’m going to do a better job keeping up on reading your books.I’m laughing so hard right now.
What a wonderful story! Elaine is a lady that was forced to move because of zoning. Her beloved father gave her a precious gift, a miniature horse. They found a new place to live with awesome neighbors. Reece, who owns the local feed store and his mother each have a home neighboring Elaine. Follow this story of Zany 'Lainie and her miniature horse as they continually find trouble in so many different ways. Will she find the love of her life and settle down? Read this story to find out! I highly recommend it!
A lovely clean romance full of heart, hope, love, and good intentions. When straight laced Reece meets his neighbor, Lanie, things go from normal to somewhat wacky. Lanie has a heart of gold and wants to help her fellow man and any creature in need, but things don’t always go as planned. Lanie isn’t Reece’s type at all, but she somehow sneaks into his heart and makes him start to see things differently.
This story was put up with a lot of turns that have turned out to be a very good conclusion. That is for the characters of this story. It turns out that the characters have their own troubles but they have been able to work things out. So that they were able to be together as a couple that has become pretty good in a partnership.
This book was fun from beginning to end! I admit the opening scene with Reece and Lainey made me cringe but very soon I was laughing out loud and falling in love with both characters. Reece's mother is a perfect fit also! I look forward to meeting more southern charmers!
I just finished it. The romance was a bit flat but it had it's funny moments and passed the time on a long flight. The characters could have been more accentuated and not so everything running into each other. He-Chapter, She-Chapter would have been better for this genre.
This book was so cute! The story was sweet and romantic but i mostly liked the characters in this book. They were interesting, weird and fun! I couldnt wait to read more of their story.
