Detective Virgil Jones #8

State of Humanity

Rate this book
Detective Virgil Jones thought he understood the Genesis of his past, but Humanity itself is about to show him he only had part of the story.

Six wealthy couples are taken from their homes, then robbed of everything they own. The problem for the Major Crimes Unit is this: They have no evidence, no clues, and no idea if the victims are dead or alive. As Virgil Jones and the rest of the MCU investigates, the pressure mounts to find out who is committing the crimes, and more importantly, the location of the victims...

Huma Moon--Virgil and Sandy's live-in nanny has a secret--and she's kept it to herself for decades. Even her best friend and lover, Delroy Rouche doesn't know. But Delroy has a secret of his own, one that he's shared only with Virgil. And when Virgil sends Delroy and Huma to Jamaica to give them time to sort out their lives, he unknowingly sets off a chain of events that will either help them, or kill them...

The Pope twins are back with a problem of their own. Their neighbor in the hills of Hanover Parish in Jamaica isn't the type of person anyone would want living nearby. Roje Brenner owns one of the largest construction businesses on the island, one he uses to launder the profits from his international drug operation. And when Nichole and Nicky Pope discover Delroy's connection to Brenner, they have to make a choice, one that could cost them everything...

The past and present merge once again in the eighth installment of the critically acclaimed bestselling Virgil Jones Mystery-Thriller Series.

This series just keeps getting better and better.

Now my wife has fallen in love with Virgil, Sandy, Murt, Becky, the Pope twins, Delroy and Huma, and all the rest of the gang.

I'm going to be reading to her for quite some time, I guess.

(Yes, of course she can read. But she just likes being read to.)

Scott delivers again!

Just when I think he has done it all Scott comes up with a new scenario for Virgil and the gang. Always a good read. Always a good mystery. You don’t have to start with the first book to love these characters. Scott’s recaps of relationships and previous events are woven in seamlessly and not like most authors who cut and paste the same paragraphs into future books. I love how it all wraps back to book 1 and weaves in characters from book 2 throughout the series! He’s on my super short list of always buy authors!

And they just keep getting better.....

This series has been an unexpected but absolute delight to read. I don't think that I have laughed so much reading a mystery/thriller series, ever! The characters are awesome, the humor and banter absolutely hilarious, and don't forget about the crazy antics they all get up to together. There are circumstances and situations that are heartbreaking and tragic, but in the end the MCU always gets the job done. (Sometimes in less conventional ways of course! Lol!)
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

They just keep getting better !!

Great Action, Great Story, Great Suspense & Great Family !!
Thomas Scott just keeps churning out the stories that hold you yet let you "play around" with the plot in your mind trying to figure "what happens next"! He currently has enough " family " that I wouldn't be surprised to see a "spin off" soon!
Regardless, this was a Compelling Read and I Strongly Recommend it !!
And I'm off to find the next book !!

Virgil et al go at it again!

Read this book in shutdown, kept me coming back...”just one more page”! One little problem the author might think about...I often had to re-read a paragraph or two to figure out who was speaking.
Confusing at times! Other than that great story line!

More action, more background. mayhem

So more of the backstory comes out to explain why events are related and why the plot continues. More action in this story and interesting if more evil characters get their comeuppance. Really enjoyed this book

many twists in this one

Exciting mystery and the worst guy finds justice in his own personal hell, sad that Gary couldn't have just been in a serious coma and he came to during the epilogue

Another great read

Scott doesn't disappoint. His imagination knows no bounds. His characters are interesting and the humor lightens the otherwise disturbing crimes the author comes up with. I love this series. On to the next adventure...

Super Good!

After looking over State of Wrath, I decided to start the series with No.1.. I'm now starting No.9. I've stopped reading everything else because they're so good and look forward to reading all the rest until I get to No.23 , State of Wrath, my starter.

Engaging

Intense with humor and some spirits. Virgil and his crew follow cases that are intertwined. The bad guys are crude and twisted.

All hands on deck. Inner secrets revealed, suspects chased all over the map, bad guys in Indiana and Jamaica. MCU spread thin. Another great action-packed mystery from Thomas Scott!
