He’s a shining star, I’m a black hole. Complete opposites. And just like our astronomic counterparts, there’s no way Marty’s light is ever going to brighten me. Black holes don’t let any light escape. They devour it all. And that’s what will happen to Marty if he doesn’t keep his distance from me. I want to warn him, but there’s a selfish part of me that can’t do it.
Like a moth, I’m drawn to Marty’s light. I know I should stay away—for his sake more than mine—but I can’t. A better man would do the hard thing and stay away. Not me. The fact that this time the easy way lines up with my self-centered desire to spend more time with him, is only a bonus.
He doesn’t know that I’ve already declared this over in my head. He thinks he does, but he's lying to himself. Part of me resists it as well, though. Part of me is determined to give this a real go and not lose my chance with him. Because if I back out now and regret it later, it could be too late.
Which is worse? Missing my chance, or opening myself up to the agony I already know so intimately?
Marty:
Me: I know what I’m doing, and I know Sam’s not after anything serious. It’s fine. I can handle it. Narrator: He could not handle it.
Some folks say I live in a dreamworld. It's partly true; I run a party planning business in the idyllic town of Snow Lake and I love every minute of it. But when I watch my friends partner up and look so happy, I hide the sadness that threatens to engulf me. Nobody needs to know how deep that particular pit goes.
When Sebastian arrives in Snow Lake, I bring him a welcome basket, like I do for everyone. But when I actually take in that tall, muscular frame and dark artist's mystique, I practically want to organize a parade complete with marching band and an interpretive dance about how much he turns me on.
So what if he says he only wants a casual thing? A hookup is better than not getting my hands on that body. And besides, how can he not fall in love with me?
Reread December 2021 I'm changing my rating from three to four stars. I enjoyed this much more the second time around. Don't get me wrong, I still loathed some of the side characters but Marty and Sebastian are hard not to love.
Original review: I really like Marty and Sebastian. They are great and I was rooting for them from the start. And i love Snow Lakes. But some of the side characters was just... awful.
Returning to Snow Lake is beginning to feel a lot like coming home… This book is about Marty, the resident party planner and ray of sunshine, and Sebastian, the latest temporarily resident artist. Sebastian lost his fiancé in a car accident he still blames himself for and he feels like a black hole that can suck out the light of Marty’s bright star. What starts as a no strings attached arrangement soon becomes more for both men, but external influences and Sebastian’s unresolved grief stand in the way… The book is sweet and charming at points, but quite emotional and somber when Sebastian deals with his own emotions. He really is the ultimate artist, ruled and consumed by his feelings.
this was so much fun. sexy and i love gingers so i loved that one.. marty is adorable and sees the world in his own amazing way.. and pairing him with sebastian is just perfect. these two are just sweet and fun.

LOVELY ROMANCE!
It was my first book by this author and I already crave more! The writing style is pretty AWESOME, the world created here is totally BELIEVABLE and all MCs are lovable. It was love at first sight - I fell head over heels in love with Marty, he is funny, smart, sexy, full of life and talented. It took me some time to understand Sebastian, he seemed too dark and too depressed for Marty, but in the end they completed each other perfectly. He needed Marty to brighten his world and feel alive again.
This is a GREAT READ . I got sucked into the story from the first chapter. I loved that it was written from both POVs, I really think it was necessary to fully understand both MCs actions (especially after Trevi's visit). The romance part was heartwarming - the way Sebastian and Marty helped each other and slowly fell in love. It was predictable that there is no way anyone can be in a casual relationship with someone as lovely as Marty. Plus, the chemistry is great. They were definitely meant to be together :)
I loved this story and I'll read other books in this series. If they are even half as enjoyable as this one, I'll be delighted.
Marty is the fun and adorable party planner that we met previously in the series and is the unofficial welcome wagon of the town. Sebastian is an artist who is trying to get away for a bit. He has depression related to losing his fiancé and doesn’t believe that he deserves to find happiness again.
They are both attracted to each other, but Sebastian’s reluctance to have a relationship causes them to start something “casual”. Feelings emerge, guilt ensues, and lots of hurdles are jumped over for these guys to get their HEA, but it was worth it. They were really sweet together, and I loved watching Sebastian start to see color again. I enjoyed this

Great Story & Narration🎧 Enthralling & Heartfelt! Piñatas and Paintbrushes Hearts of Snow Lake, Book 3 By: Ashton Cade Narrated by: Cam Walker
This audiobook is awesome! It is my first book written by Ashton Cade and my first narrated by Cam Wade it will definitely not be my last. I enjoyed Ashton Cade’s writing style and the characters and storylines she created, the story grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire book. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. I adored both lead characters, Marty and Sebastian, Marty is a business owner and resident of Snow Lake, he is friendly and has a bubbly personality. Sebastian is an artist who needed a change and came to Snow Lake to get away, he carries the weight of the world on his shoulders and battles his own inner demons which is reflected in his art. Marty on behalf of the town visits him with a gift basket of goodies. As much as he does not want to be Sebastian is drawn to Marty, Marty is intrigued by Sebastian and wants to get to know more about him but Sebastian warns him that he has nothing to give. I loved how everything played out in this book, the story is beautifully plotted with drama, angst, heartfelt and emotional moments and a wonderful romance. It was great to see Sebastian’s transformation, I thought Marty was perfect for him and that they were great together. Ashton Cade thank you for this wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride. I am looking forward to visiting Snow Lake again soon.
🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Cam Walker is a talented narrator and versatile voice artist. He brings these these characters to life, gives each their own unique voice making it easy to follow along and tell who is who. He does an awesome job portraying each character, grasps their persona and plays the role in a believable and natural way sounding just as I picture them to sound. He sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the characters emotions and projects them into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the awesome listen🎧
Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Sebastian is in for treat when dealing with Marty. After the past, Sebastian has denied to ever love again. Art was his only form of communication he wanted with the outside world, that is until a ginger hair twink shows up at his door as the welcome committee to Snow Lake and takes it upon himself to insert said self in his life. Dealing with Marty is like dealing with small pint size tornado who waltz in to his life. Can Sebastian let go of the past long enough to live for a future or will he sent his little bossy tornado away. Can Sebastian do the same, guilt can make everything unbearable when reminded happiness wasn't for him Marty can't help himself when it comes to the tall dark and mysterious Sebastian. Seeing all his friends settled and happy bring a longing to light inside him, can Sebastian be the one to full that gap all his actions say one thing while his eyes tell another. For all Sebastian gruff and growls can Marty have more than just the casual that is offered. Marty knows about the loss of a loved one, keeping the memory alive in a good way. When an unexpected guest shows up it throws everything in line for Marty on just where he stands. One the recluse while the other is persistent in being friendly to any and everyone. When causal isn't working anymore who will be the first to break? Overall this book was a page turner with Marty's internal debates. Over here cheering Amanda on with pampams and all when Trevi shows up.
Another great addition to the Hearts of Snow Lake series. We catch up again with Marty and get to meet Seb, a darkly emotional artist who's come to town to try and get back in touch with his work. Seb has a lot of heartbreak in his past with an accident killing his husband and his work shows his inner turmoil. Marty is, like, the perfect counterbalance with his brighter outlook and energy that he brings to all of his party planning. The have a quickly building connection right from the start when Marty calls on Seb to welcome him to the town and somehow gets him involved setting up for the upcoming PawPaw Festival. Seb is extremely reluctant to build a relationship with anyone but Marty is hard to deny. Neither can deny the attraction though. It is wonderful reading Seb's development and growth as we read through the story, at least until his manager/friend/dead husband's twin sister turns up. She is manipulative, messes with his head and causes a rift in his new relationship. Marty is strong and has great friends, some we've met in previous books in the series and a few new faces. They rally round in his times of need, lifting his spirits and offering his support including when a mean old lady attempts to sabotage one of his parties. I love how this couple works together, building a friendship and have a quickly rising heat level but there is a fair amount of drama for them too. Definitely another recommended read from this really enjoyable series. Looking forward to book four! I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
Piñatas and Paintbrushes is book 3 in the Hearts of Snow Lake series but you can read it as a standalone with no trouble. I haven’t read the first two books and I never felt lost while listening to this one. This is the first book I’ve read by Ashton Cade and the first audiobook I’ve listened to by Cam Walker.
I think Cam Walker did a good job with the audiobook. His voice is really soothing and pleasant to listen to. The only reason I didn’t give this 5-stars was that I had a little trouble keeping track of who was speaking as the two MC’s voices weren’t different enough. The chapters alternated between characters, and the character name was stated at the beginning of each chapter, but when I got wrapped up in the story, I didn’t always remember whose chapter I was on. If I were reading, instead of listening, it would be easy to go back and check but not while listening.
The story itself kept me engaged the entire time I was listening. I felt bad for what had happened to Sebastian and just wanted to hug him. Marty was delightful and I loved his energy. I wanted to throw Sebastian’s manager out of a window!
I plan to continue on with this series.
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
I loved this latest addition to the Snow Lake series. This book focuses on Marty, party planner extraordinaire, owner of the only party store in Snow Lake and unofficial welcome wagon for new neighbors. Marty has been seeing his close friends pair off and he is a tad envious b/c he is wondering when he is going to get his HEA. When he takes his welcome basket to the newest resident of Snow Lake he is taken aback by the sexy artist that greets him at the door. Marty immediately wants to know more, but Sebastian is more like a grumpy recluse than a budding artist. Although he is not really a "budding" artist, he is a highly sought after abstract artist who has come to Snow Lake for solitude and mental rest after a traumatic accident and loss leaves his muse turning dark. Marty just won't take no for an answer and pushes Sebastian to come out of his shell more and more. But, what happens when a casual "with benefits" arrangement starts to feel too real for Sebastian? Will Marty just give up when someone from Sebastian's work/past life comes crashing into Snow Lake unannounced and unwanted? Or will these two men find a way to fight for each other and the HEA they both deserve? This book is a stand-alone, but definitely best enjoyed after reading the first two books. Definitely check it out!
Ashton’s descriptive writing makes this story come alive. Marty is a whirlwind, bubbly, heart of gold person. Sebastian came to Snow Lake to recoup as he lost his partner Trevor to a car accident that he was driving. Naturally a lot of guilt which his manager and Trevor’s twin Trevi used for her own detriment, very toxic. When Seb and Marty meet their combustible chemistry had them agreeing on a sex only no romance relationship, yeah we know how that’s going to end. The mayor of Snow Lake asked Marty to plan the Pawpaw Festival which was an honour for Marty, who was also planning a high tea for a Ladies Coalition, unfortunately Yvette is not happy that she’s not planning it so does her best to ruin Marty, she’s a nasty homophobic woman, luckily his friends rallied together to help make it work. Wouldn’t it be great to live in a community where people love to assist each other. Lot’s of feel good, roller coaster emotions and hot, intimate scenes makes this storyline awesome.
I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book for my honest opinions of which I’m under no obligation to do so. I absolutely recommend this book and can’t wait to read the next in this series.
Snow Lake remains that idyllic town that everyone wants to believe truly exists. But this book brings a bit of reality crashing in, in the guise of one homophobic “bad apple”; instead of tainting the town, this enables the kind townsfolk the opportunity to address it themselves and once again prove themselves worthy of readers’ adoration.
After meeting Marty, party planner extraordinaire, in the previous book, I was super excited to read his story. And he didn’t disappoint. “Party Marty” is a whole lot of fun and his optimism and enthusiasm is a welcome distraction.
It took me a bit longer to warm up to Sebastian, but once I did I was rooting for him whole-heartedly. When a person causes him distress later in the book, I felt it viscerally.
With brief appearances from Grayson, Layton, Sean and Porter (from books 1 & 2), reading this book felt a lot like sitting down for a visit with old friends.
This is an engaging read with an angsty artist and an apparently perpetually over-caffeinated hero. It could easily be read as a standalone but will be even more appreciated as book 3 in the series.
Sebastian and Marty had me hooked from the very beginning. They are both such likeable, complex characters who aren’t perfect, especially Sebastion.
He’s a dark and broody artist that has not moved on from an accident that occurred years ago. He’s cut himself off from the world and is a lonely man.
Enter Marty, the bubbly, ginger twink who is a successful party planner and runs he’s own party hire business. Despite all that, he hides his loneliness and sadness from his closest friends.
This is another well written instalment with an interesting plot, in this small town series. The story flowed seamlessly and was very easy to read in one sitting. The chemistry between Sebastian and Marty was undeniable and was very heat worthy. There was some minimal angst that gave me some feels. I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a sweet, feel good, small town romance.
I am in love with Ashton Cade's Hearts of Snow Lake series. The third book, Pinatas and Paintbrushes, is a fantastic addition.
In this story, a grieving and troubled artist meet a small town man, who happens to be the life of the party. The small town feel is well written, easily transporting the reader to this place.
As for the men, both are interesting and complex characters. Sebastian is lost in a world of pain, grief, and guilt. Then Marty shows up and is like a breath of fresh air. These two men are complete opposites, and it's entertaining to see the differences not getting in their way.
They have to deal with homophobia and sabotage, in addition to a painful past, and the fear of pain and agony.
Pinatas and Paintbrushes is a story of recovery and healing. This Ashton Cade book is a beautiful story of accepting that you deserve to live a full and happy life. I loved every second of it.
Grief, guilt and regret cloud the mind of Party Marty's new fella; can Marty lighten his load?
4.5🌟stars 👍❤ I've read each story in the Snow Lake series so far and this may be my favorite. Artist 🎨Sebastian is such a 😨 sad, tragic figure at the start and ebullient party-planning 🎉Marty is a positive force that he just can't resist. The heat in this MM romance is mostly "fade to morning" but I found the heavy emotional content made up for the limited heat. And I love a romance with a good villain or two. Yvette is just horrible and Trevi, whether she has her own emotional baggage or not, is just such a perfect obstacle to Sebastian's recovery and happiness! It's a well-written set of standalone romances. I have really grown fond of the residents of this little Peninsula town and look forward to more books in the series.😊
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I absolutely adored this latest book in the Hearts of Snow Lake Series!!! Marty and Sebastian couldn't be any more different. Marty is a shining light with an upbeat personality to match. Sebastian is broody and that is on a good day, he is more of the glass is empty kinda guy. Sebastian comes to Snow Lake to regroup so to speak after a tragedy rocked his core. Marty is the welcoming committee so to speak and wants to make sure Sebastian feels welcome in Snow Lake. All Sebastian wants to do is be left alone especially by someone as cheerful as Marty but even he isn't completely immune to Marty's charm. A casual fling turns into something more than either one could deny. When someone from Sebastian's past tries to sabotage a developing relationship between the two, can they weather the storm or does things fizzle out? A fantastic story...one that I enjoyed a lot and I highly recommend to all. Cant wait for the next book in this amazing series. Well done!!!
I was so excited to get to have Marty get his own story. Loved him and his little intros as a character in the last two books. Marty is the party planner/welcome wagon for Snow Lakes, so when he is told about a new resident he does what he always does and head on over to introduce himself and welcome him to the town. What he wasn't suspecting was that he finds the intriguing and mysterious Sebastien. Will Marty's spirit and many layered nature be what Sebastien needs? Sebastien I in a dark place and that doesn't just meant the room he is in.Sebastien is an artist who you just want to hug ( and/or smack lol). Sebastian has went through something that changed his life and as a result he ends up in the town of Snow Lake. This is a wonderful addition to the series! I could not put it down. I was highly impressed with the authors writing and all the emotions I felt from this book. Very good book!
When he moved to Snow Lake,Sebastian Baird wasn't expecting to have his life taken over by the whirlwind that is Marty O'Lynn.
I found Sebastian endearing in his reactions to Marty. The party planner's attack is no holds barred to get what he wants and the poor artist is defenseless against it. Soon,he just stops fighting, because Marty is "𝒋𝒐𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒍𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒆. 𝑨 𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒔𝒖𝒏𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒅 𝒂 𝒔𝒆𝒂 𝒐𝒇 𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒖𝒅𝒔."
Their story is the best kind of opposites attract romance:the brooding, isolated Sebastian and the sparkly, outgoing Marty. Their interactions are entertaining and heart-warming. Together they're cute, hot and absolutely the perfect fit for each other.
𝐏𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐬 & 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬 kept a smile on my face all through reading it. That's the best you can look for in a book, right?
Marty is the go to person to plan a party in Snow Lake. He is also the greeter for new residents. When he meets grumpy Sebastian he’s intrigued. When Marty discovers Sebastian is an artist, he won’t take no for an answer and convinces Sebastian to paint backdrops for the annual Snow Lake festival. Sebastian is still mourning the loss of his fiancé and just wants to be alone. But he didn’t known just how hard to resist Marty could be.
This was another sweet book in the Snow Lake series. Marty has been in and out of the other stories and always seemed like a shallow character. I was glad to see he wasn’t that way. He turned out to be a sweetheart and Sebastian never saw him coming. Good characters, adequate amount of backstory, and good writing made this a nice read.
I am loving this series and so happy for Marty to get his HEA. Marty is lonely and looking foe his forever person. I’d hate to say he’s jealous of his friends relationships but he is.
He meets Sebastian when he brings his welcome basket to be The hospitable person he is. They have an instant connection but Sebastian is clear from the start he can’t start anything and we see him drowning in his past. Questioning his future and not really living. He’s hiding away while creating his art.
I loved these guys together and how Marty’s personality got Sebastian to open up and see a whole new side of him. However can it always be happy with parties and painting? Marty is a rock to is so supportive Sebastian with him not even realizing it.
The story was great, very lovable characters, I just felt it ended a little fast. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
This was a good story. It was great to finally really get to know Marty from the previous two books where he came off a little shallow...he is not shallow at all, he is kind, sweet, generous man you want to see get his HEA. Enter Sebastian, who came with a lot of baggage and a serious case of depression. It was really nice watching Marty break through his darkness and help him find love again. This book was very low on steam, much less than the first two and I missed it here. I would have liked a few more sexy times, some more kissing, some more details on page. There were a few too many cuts to the next morning for me. I also felt the ending was very rushed and would have liked a few more chapters before they settled into their life, but overall it was well written and I look forward to the next in the series.
Lonely hearts, healing touches and creating a new future. A touching story of letting go of grief and guilt and believing you deserve a future. There is darkness in all of us, however sometimes the right person will shed light and hope on the darkness in your soul and create healing.
i loved Marty and Sebastian together, Marty is so positive and energetic, full of hope and building for the future. These guys have chemistry to burn and they have some very steamy times. I enjoyed the flow of the story and the characters felt real and touchable.
This is book three of the Hearts of Snow Lake series and can be read as a stand-alone. I have enjoyed the previous books and it was awesome seeing the previous couples play a role here.
I was gifted this book from the LesCourt Author Services and i freely give my honest opinion and review.
Was loving this book and then the manager (and dead fiance's twin) appeared. What a manipulative bitch. She was no friend to Sebastian and I would not have been so quick to defend her. What that meant was that there wasn't enough time with Sebastian and Marty at the end. I'd have liked to see Sebastian woo Marty because Marty caved way too quickly. A whole chapter of Sebastian leaving Marty little gifts that meant something to them (a welcome parcel, a salad for lunch, a can of pawpaw, some wild flowers, a sketch of two) before Marty finally loses it and races into the grocery store behind him and demands when he's going to appear in person. Yeah, as you can see I've given the ending a lot of thought. But before that the story was lovely. Adore Marty and his enthusiasm and the way Sebastian was powerless to resist him. Really enjoying this series.
Pinatas and Paintbrushes is the latest addition to the Snow Lake Book by Ashton Cade. Sebastian is hiding from the world after an horrific accident that took his fiance life. Marty is the town party planner and sent to welcome Sebastian to Snow Lake. He's attracted to Sebastian from the first moment he see him but notices that he's in pain. Sebastian can't help but see Marty no matter what. Sebastian is feels guilty because he survived and don't know to move on from there. They decided to commit to a friends with benefits but both of them start developing feelings for each other. Sebastian's fiancee sister doesn't want him to move on and keep making him feel guilty for being alive. The book is romantic, a lot of angst, funny, the sexy times are hot and I loved. Ashton Cade is doing a wonderful job with this series. I'm looking forward to the rest of the books in this series.
This is my first by Ashton Cade and now I need to go back and read the first two books 2 in the series.
Marty gets a welcome surprise when he goes out to meet and greet and welcome Sebastian to Snow Lake. Sebastian is staying in a rental cabin for some much needed rest and to work on some paintings for a future art exhibit. Marty, needing to see Sebastian again, invites him out to the mayor's farm to work on some scenery that is being built and painted for the Pawpaw Festival.
Sebastian is going thru some tough times as he is the reason that his fiance is dead from a car accident. His agent, best friend and twin to the deceased, Trevi, is pulling some major strings and throwing Sebastian into some major dark times.
This book has all the feels and a total must read.
Be aware that one of the MCs in this story deals with chronic depression, and also that suicide is briefly considered.
Every day is a struggle for Sebastian. He feels broken and unable to connect with anyone. This book offers an eye-opening view into how depression can have a crippling effect on people’s lives. The author deals with the issue sensitively, and doesn't shy away from the seriousness of the illnesses.
When Marty arrives on the scene, he made me smile, and laugh. He acts as such a balm for Sebastian's wounds. I didn't doubt the MCS love for one another, but I did feel that Sebastian was a little too forgiving (you'll know what I mean when you read the story).
The eventual ending did feel slightly rushed. Despite this I was cheering for both Marty and Sebastian, and even as rushed as I thought it was, I did enjoy the conclusion.
A lovely contemporary M/M novel and 3rd in this Hearts of Snow Lake series.
Sebastian has a heavy burden of grief and guilt weighting on his shoulders and he's just met the man to relieve his shoulders and his heart of this sack of sadness. And who can that man be? None other that "Party Marty" (oh the shame of such a nickname); the spontaneous proprietor of one of Snow Lake's best business. Marty deals with Sebastian recluse state by drawing him out of his shell, much to Sebastian's consternation. The battle of wills each pit against the other was such a fun read but with an air of realty woven throughout it. This story was a pleasure for me to read and I'm giving this ARC review voluntarily.
Sebastian is a dark, brooding artist new in town for a short while. He's terrified of life, chained to the past and his perceived, misplaced guilt over a tragic incident. Marty is the owner of a party supply store and self appointed welcome wagon. He's bright, bubbly and the epitome of living life to the fullest. What starts as a casual, no-strings attached fling soon develops into much more. Marty had to endure many pitfalls and there were misunderstandings along the bumpy road to a HEA. Marty helped bring Sebastian out of his self imposed darkness and to realize and accept that he deserves happiness and to truly live again. I absolutely love this colorful town and it's wonderfully quirky cast of secondary characters.
Another trip to Snow Lake and another great love story.
Marty has popped up in the previous books and now it’s his turn to find love. This comes in the form of dark brooding artist Sebastian.
This story has a grittier tone than the previous books, poor Sebastian is living in a dark world due to things in his past and he can’t seem to see light in anything, that is until Marty comes into his life. I really enjoyed the growth of their relationship and how Sebastian changed his outlook after spending more time with Marty. It’s not without some ups and downs however and the downs are particularly heartbreaking, I really felt for both characters. But the HEA is worth the pain and emotions.
