An Alaskan Romance #2

Best Friends with an Alaskan Man

Rate this book
They were best friends, but he wanted more.

After an amazing date, Sabrina Wells knows she has to protect her heart or she’ll fall hard for Hunter Gaines. She asks what he wants in a relationship, and his vague answer does nothing to encourage her hopes for the future. She draws a line in the sand and tells him they can only be friends. Soon after, she starts dating someone else.

Hunter retires from his career as a cop with the LAPD to follow his dream of living off-the-grid in Alaska, and he regrets not snatching up Sabrina before she moved on with another man.

When Sabrina breaks up with her boyfriend, she decides it’s time for a visit to Alaska. She toys with the idea of sharing her true feelings with Hunter, but once the words are out there, she can never take them back. Telling him how she feels could ruin their friendship, and she’s not sure that’s worth the risk.

Hunter is willing to risk everything to be with Sabrina. But will it be enough?

Evangeline Kelly is the pen name I use to write contemporary Christian romance books. When I was a kid, I had two dreams. One was to work with at risk youth and the other was to write books. After pursuing my passion of working with foster children for over twenty years, I finally decided to pursue my childhood dream of writing.

I love a good book that draws you in and takes hold of your heart. When I write, I hope to show real life situations people go through and how God uses those situations to draw us closer to Himself.

I’ve witnessed suffering in my line of work, but I’ve also witnessed God’s redeeming love. A good Christian romance features both hardship and delight. My hope is that my stories not only entertain, but encourage, and most of all, that they bring glory and honor to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

4.5*

I'm really having fun reading these living off the grid Alaskan clean romance books by Evangeline Kelly. They're pretty quick reads and keep my interest that I quickly read through and enjoy them. This second installment is another stand alone but the characters from the first book tie into this one. Hunter is our main man in this one but he was the prominent best friend to the man man in the first book. You learn a little bit about him and get to see his personality. But for those of you who only want to read this one and not have to read them as a series together, you'll be just fine not reading both books. You do also learn in the previous book that Hunter has a best friend, Sabrina, that he has fallen in love with and wants another chance to prove to her that they're right for each other.

Well, this book is proof that Hunter gets that second chance. I liked their friendship and the way that the author wrote the chemistry between these two characters. I had a little bit of a hard time with Sabrina at the beginning and why she called off any further dates past her and Hunter's initial date. She references that throughout the book. It's a feasible reason why someone wouldn't pursue a further development of a relationship but it was a little bit harder for me to go with. I'm sure most readers will be fine with it. And even with my initial reaction and having a little bit harder time with that small aspect of the book, I really enjoyed it.

I liked Sabrina and her cousin. And the development of characters for the next book in this series. I'm really looking forward to that one. Hahahaha! It's gonna be great! The more books I read by this author the more I enjoy her character development and especially the relationship between the main characters. There might be sparks and attraction but she develops a deeper bond and connection between them.

If you're looking for a fun off-the grid Alaskan romance, take a chance with these two books and the upcoming one in the series. The descriptions of the scenery and of what the characters do to survive is very interesting. I've lived some places where I've had a bear wandering around the road by my house. Eeeeekkkk! Yes, true story. And huge herds of elk hanging out by my house (they're even worse there after I moved). As well as my hubby walking out the door early in the mornings to go to his car to head to work and surprise there's a moose chillin' on the front lawn. Or cougar sightings and having to stay inside because they were next to my house. Or the little foxes running around. Or the coyotes chilling behind my house. Fun times!

Content: Clean. This is a Christian fiction novel so the characters do talk about trusting God to lead them and to help them in their life decisions. As well as helping to strengthen their relationships.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

What would you do if a blind date asked if your plans included a future long-term relationship? Would you head for the nearest exit? Or would you continue the date? This is what happens in the first chapter of Evangeline Kelly’s newest book, Best friends with an Alaskan Man, the second book in An Alaskan Romance Series. The storyline takes the main characters, Sabrina and Hunter, from going on a blind date to becoming best friends. Ms. Kelly did a great job on character development. There aren’t many books that are written so well that you heartily dislike a character. This is how I felt about Sabrina. I understand that Christians should date with marriage as the ultimate goal. But, give me a break. Did she have to be so obnoxious on the first date? As time passed, she did got the man, Brad, that she wanted. Not necessarily the man that God wanted for her. She stayed with him for 5 long years. You wonder why? So did I. That is until I figured out that she was getting her emotional needs and support met by her Best Friend, Hunter. Best Friends with an Alaskan Man was enjoyable, but it is not my favorite of Ms. Kelly’s books. However, she must have done a great job in character development to get such strong reactions to Sabrina. As with all of Ms. Kelly’s book, this is a clean faith filled book that ends in a HEA. I gave it 4 stars because there a no half stars so I couldn’t give 4 ½ stars. It’s not a bad book, but I don’t think that it deserves the 5 stars that I have given most of Ms. Kelly’s books.

What to say...

I liked it well enough since it had a HEA. But I really couldn't stand Sabrina for most of the book. She set Hunter up to fail since day 1. She wanted a distraction from the guy who she wanted to date but hadn't asked her yet. (So, basically a fling.) And then when she and Hunter unexpectedly connected, she expected Hunter to just commit to her after an hour and a half. And since he couldn't, because that is so unrealistic, she stuck him in the friend zone and declared him a serial dater. (Which, honestly, I feel is unfair. So he dates. Isn't that how you get to know each other? You date. And I don't feel that's wrong to date around. I mean was he sleeping with all the women he dated? Or just doing fun activities to see if there was potential for more? He sounds like the latter.) And then she dated someone else for 5 years. (That relationship's shelf life should have been 2 years max. It was unfair to her, Hunter, and Brad to continue with it when clearly Sabrina wasn't as into the relationship as Brad.)
Hunter was definitely patient. Five years of holding back your feelings would be hard. And I feel like he was just painted as something he wasn't. He didn't strike me as a player, especially since he had "occasional dates".
So, I liked the ending, but I wasn't a fan of how we got there.

As always Evangeline Kelly takes you on a wonderful adventure in a clean romance with a happy ending. In this adventure the main characters, Sabrina and Hunter, have been best friends for five years. Normally I give Ms. Kelly's books five stars but this time I only gave four due to the lack of realism in how Sabrina and her friend Jazmin deal with the off the grid lifestyle. These ladies are from California yet they seem to just go with the flow.

In her last Alaskan book the author hit the nail on the head with Callie's inability to deal with a lack of running water, showers, flushing toilets, etc. But this time there's no real issues just acceptance. I found that difficult to believe.

Beyond that, the overall storyline is great. The conversations are interesting and keep you reading to see how things will go. What will they do and how will it happen. I enjoyed Jazmin and Clay and how their relationship played out.

The message of God's plan is always the best plan even if it's not how you thought your life was going to be is very evident throughout the book.

I received an advanced copy of this book but the opinions are my own.

What a phenomenal new friends-to-lover clean romance from Evangeline Kelly. Sabrina is an online college professor who realizes that although she has been in a 5 year relationship, she has always been in love with her best friend. Hunter is a former police officer with the Los Angeles police department who has moved to Alaskan in order to live out his dream of owning an off the grid homestead. With Sabrina spending 2 weeks with her best friend Hunter in Alaska, they both come to realize a relationship is finally possible if they have trust in each other and faith in our Father in Heaven and His plan. Best Friends with an Alaskan Man is a captivating must read filled with danger, secret feelings, angst, friendship, laughter, insecurities, heartache, faith, passionate kisses, ad love. A fantastically written story with wonderful characters readers will fall in love with. I have loved reading this series thus far and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

This book is part of a collection of books written by Evangeline Kelly. They all have something to do with an Alaskan Man and the “off-the-grid” lifestyle. They are so enjoyable to read. I love picturing all the beautiful scenery and fun challenges of living in Alaska.
In this story, we get to meet two longtime friends who have tried to keep their friendship in the “only friends” stage, but it’s getting harder and harder to deny their interests in each other as more.
Evangeline Kelly is a fun author to read. Her writing is smooth, and the books move along so smoothly that you don’t want to stop reading because you become invested in the characters' lives. Her books are clean, and she weaves beautiful examples of God’s love into each one. They are rich in lessons we can all relate to.
If you want delightful, fun, romantic, easy-to-read books, this is one author to look for.
I highly recommend that you pick this book up and start reading it right away! Now, I’m on to reading the next book in this collection! Fun Times!

Hunter and Sabrina go on their first date. It goes really well. Sabrina is working on her masters. Hunter is a cop. When he asks her on another date, she says no because her friend has told her that he's a player. He is hurt, but they become best friends. 5 years later, they are still best friends. She is dating Mark. Hunter has moved to Alaska to live off grid. Sabrina's cousin really wants to go see what it's like to live that way so they plan a trip. Mark is jealous and says that she's in love with Hunter and breaks up with her. She doesn't want to mess up the closest friendship she's ever had. Once they get to Alaska, Hunter tells her that he wants to be more than friends. They agree to take things slowly. Her cousin, Jazmin is hilarious. Very fun book!

Sabrinas Choices

Sabrina and Brad have been an item for about five years, but they have hit a snag. Sabrina’s best friend is Hunter, a former LA cop, who went to Alaska to live off the grid. When Brad confronts her about Hunter, she chooses Hunter. There’s always been something missing in her relationship with Brad. She begins to think about Hunter in a different way, but she is also afraid to admit her feelings to him at all. But how does Hunter feel about her? She doesn’t know and it terrifies her. Thus the book begins. But you need to read it for yourself to find out what happens during a visit to Alaska. Happy reading!

What a wonderful story!
Sabrina and Brad were great characters, and they were a main reason I loved this book so much.
It was lovely to see them progress from friends to lovers, and I loved all of their interactions together!
I also loved the setting!
The plot progressed smoothly and I really enjoyed it.
Although it's the second book of the series, it can be read as a standalone, but reading the first one makes this one all the more enjoyable.
I would recommend this to all lovers of clean, sweet romance!

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not affected my review, which is my honest and unbiased opinion.

This was a sweet story. Sabrina has been in a relationship that she hasn't been fully invested in. When she breaks off their relationship, she knows that she wants to visit her friend, Hunter, in Alaska. Hunter has always been there for Sabrina. Both want to share their news with each other before any other people. They have a connection that comes through in the book. Hunter and Sabrina have to take a risk that their relationship could potentially be over if they announce their feelings for each other.
This was a sweet, clean romance that had some chemistry between the couple. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Better than expected

Let me be clear - i believe that heterosexual men and women cannot be best friends. They can be friends, for sure, but not best friends. Your spouse should be your best and closest friend, so it just logically follows. This book (like many others) is built on the "best friends, don't wanna ruin the friendship " idea, but honestly, if you're already attracted to your best friend, that friendship is already gone. You can move forward into a relationship, but you can't move back. It was frustrating that it took Sabrina so long to realise this, but that is how it is with this trope. Still, it was well-written and a good feel-good story.

An enjoyable and sweet Christian romance.

This book asks the question, can a single male and female have a platonic friendship type of relationship without any romantic feelings? The book actually has some examples in the story.

The struggle of not knowing what God wants you to do in life can be difficult. The book reminds me that prayer and the word are the two best answers to any questions or concerns we have.

The romance is very touching how it unfolds and grows. A natural chemistry and pull to each other.

This is book 2 in this series and they are both fantastic. I absolutely loved the 1st book but this one is even better.

Best friends for the best part of 5 years, Hunter and Sabrina finally come to the realisation that it’s time to fess up. They want more. But Sabrina is scared that she could ultimately loose her best friend if things don’t work out. Is this going to be over before it begins.

A very sweet and clean romance with just the right feels to keep you wanting more.

I received this as a complimentary copy and I am giving my honest review voluntarily

Best friends take a chance. It's obvious that her relationship with Brad has stalled but it's realistically difficult to walk away from a 5 year relationship. Hunter is a very patient man. Sabrina & Hunter both have their doubts about how it can work out but they rely on their faith to guide them as the pressures of their insecurities flare up. Great to catch up with Callie & Derek and hope to read more on Jazmin & Clay. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author.

Best Friends with an Alaskan Man may not sound like a romance, but it's a great one. Sabrina and Hunter are well-developed and very likable characters. They both made a mistake on their one date over five years ago, but became best friends. Now what to do with those feelings that are more than friendly? Read Evangeline Kelly's book to find out. You won't be disappointed. I borrowed a copy through KU.

The first date between Sabrina and Hunter was perfect but Hunter wasn’t ready for something more so they became best friends. When Sabrina got in a relationship with someone else he regretted his decision. After she broke up with her boyfriend she decides to visit Hunter in Alaska. So now he has two weeks to convince her. Will it work?
Interesting Christian story. Can best friends try to build a relationship without loosing their friendship.

DEFINITELY GREAT!

Thank you so much Evangeline Kelly! I just completely LOVE your books! The Bible passages, true love and romance, GREAT Characters, even love excerpts from "Pastor preaching" in the churches the characters attend. Your books are filled with reminders of God's love for us and that He has beautiful plans for our lives and of course, also love the happy endings of your characters. Thank you!

Best Friend's With An Alaskan Man is an exciting and entertaining book. Evangeline Kelly has a real knack for putting a spin on her blind date stories. She keeps them clean, even has her characters to be able to remember Bible verses to help them through all their situations. It makes her books more enduring to the readers and make her stories that much more believable. A must read for your next book.

Best friends find true love

Hunter and Sabrina had been best friends for five years. Sabrina was dating some one else, and Hunter decided to move to Alaska to live off the grid since he actually realized he loved Sabrina. Her boyfriend hated Sabrina being so crazy about Hunter that he was was the first one she told about things in her life. He finally told her she had to choose between he and Hunter because she couldn't, he broke up with her.

Friends for Five Years.

This book was a great story about good friends that were in love with each other. For five years Hunter was Sabrina’s trussed friend. Sabrina told him everything ; he was a sounding board for her and was always there to give advice. This Christian couple were truly a match made. In heaven.

I read it in 2 days only because I had to sleep some time.
Now I have to read the rest in the series.
