Death Knight #4

A Skeleton's Duty

Rate this book
Friend. Lovers. Blood kin. Humans. Beast kin. Enemies. Targets.

At one time, humans and beast kin called each other friends. They weathered the bad times together and celebrated the good times. They even called one another blood brothers and sisters. They fought beside one another.

Time has made these two groups forget their shared history—forget their past relationships. Now, instead of fighting beside one another, the lands at Selenus and Radal prepare to end their cease-fire and once again soak Dena in one another’s blood.

Atrocities committed by both sides make the blood feuds run deep and mercy—let alone forgiveness—feels impossibly far away.

With war and death on the horizon, Anthony and his friends aren’t about to sit back.

The new generation of Guardians have a lot of work ahead of them—they must pull the people of Dena together.

Anthony, come on, how are you going to get the races to put down their weapons and talk it out? Dude, dude! You are scaring the hell out of me with your purply-ness!

Yes, it’s a real word, Claire! No? Come on…some support here, Tommie? Well, dammit, Aila—I'll make it one!

Anthony, even if they were once allies, now they are enemies—how can you stop them from fighting?

Yeah, yeah…that might work. Wow! Okay, Claire, that seems extreme! No, Damien, I don’t need you to show me how you’ll get them to submit.

Ah! What are you…AGHHH! MY ARM! Mercy! Mercy! Aila! Tommie! Someone help me!!

All right, yeah, I feel sorry for anyone who stands in a Guardian’s path. Who needs a boogeyman? If you do wrong, a Guardian will find you.

You didn’t have to pull on my arm so much, Damien!

No, I will not let you ‘test out a suplex’ on me! No, no-no-no! Ahh!! Looks like it’s a running day! Go away, Damien! I see you laughing, Tommie!

Michael Chatfield is a Canadian Army veteran and international bestselling author who writes the kind of books he always wanted to read—character-driven, gritty, tactical, and grounded in reality.

He doesn’t write one-dimensional killers wrapped in plot armor, charging toward an objective without thought. His stories are built for readers who want earned progression, tight, understandable logic, and realistic strategy. Every stat system has structure. Every decision is deliberate (except when there is Jaeger involved).

And the pacing? It's locked at two hundred percent. From alleyway brawls to starship armadas clashing over galactic sovereignty, from tactical dungeon assaults to city-states warring over a continent’s fate—Chatfield commits to every battle like it’s his last.

With millions of books and audiobooks sold, and tens of thousands of reviews his work spans LitRPG, military sci-fi, fantasy, and post-apocalyptic survival. He writes for readers who value systems that make sense, loyalty that lasts, and power that’s earned, not handed out.

Whether you're listening on a long drive, grinding through a shift, or up past midnight planning the next in-game raid—this is where you’ll find sagas to binge. Where strength is earned, logic rules, and camaraderie is forged in fire.

Keeping ~85% as with the first three books.
This one is very short, feels like a bridge between the events of #3 and the finale in #5.

It also seems better edited than the third book, which was quite poor in that regard.

Oh no, I want more!

You can't end it like that. Where is the next book? It's a great series and I am looking forward to so much more.

Good story

I am enjoying this series. I think Chatfield is writing this series as a break from his more intense work and it is enjoyable even if different.

Great noble

Another great novel by this author. As the war heats up the jester becomes more of a knight. I hope the next book is a little more funny

Overall this one is lacking.

There is a whole lot of story crammed into ninety pages and it feels like it. It is just to much to fast.
