This trilogy is sweet Mountain Magic and a balm for a weary soul.
I was raised in the Appalachian Mountains and know the paths and hills that is enfolded in these pages. Mountain magic grows thick amongst the flower filled hillsides and hard earned wisdom grows as tall as the corn stalks. The characters love, learn and grow and you will be enchanted by their strength and love for each other. I love this trilogy and will visit it again.
As much as I hated to, I finished this book today. Like leaving a long-desired family reunion. I didn't want to leave. I didn't want to stop reading yet ... the language, the Appalachian people, the Tennessee mountains, the 'folk' ... the superstitions, the 'secret senses' inherent in this family ... I was so caught up in it, it physically hurt to end it. So, I race to Ms. Gabriel's books and bought another one. Trueluck Summer.
This is the best book that I have read in a long time. It had me from beginning to end. The characters make you feel like they are talking to you personally telling their story. There are many things in this book that I can relate to, and things that actually happen to people in real life. Susan Gabriel really knows how to pull you into the story !!
By the time I finished this trilogy, I felt like the characters were my own family. The stories are rich with family traditions and love. The author made the dailiness of life beautiful. Strong women feature heavily on each story.
Tragedy, and life as it is, told for 4 generations of women in Appalachian country. Great writing. Professional and poetic.
started off rough because bad things are happening. I was afraid it was going to be a dark story. But it got better and I got more interested in how the characters were going to handle what had happened to them. After the third book, most issues were resolved and I had become more involved with the characters.

Could not put these books down, and when I finished the last page of the last book, felt so sorry that it ended. This is a series that I think I'll re-read, after I enjoy thinking about it for awhile,!
I found such passion and empathy within the stories. Family love overrode the short sidedness of too many "people." I enjoyed the characters and their journeys very much.
