Found this one (and 2 others in the series) at a minilibrary yesterday and what a treat this one was! Meet Sophie she is going to school for the very first time and learns that geese cannot come to school! Oh no! But Goose isn't just going to let that happen and I had tons of fun seeing Goose just hide and follow his friend to school and later in school. I loved that none of the kids tattled on Sophie and Goose, in fact they all wanted to be with him and play with him which just made me go aww. I loved that Goose stayed near Sophie for the whole day and I definitely would love to see him go back for another day. Haha. The illustrations are a bit simple... but I do think the style is cute/interesting. All in all, can't wait to see happens in the other two books (well, the titles say a bit, but there is still plenty that could happen).
2.5 stars I wanted to like this book, but it just got a 'eh' from me. I like the pictures and I get that having Goose come to school helps the girl assimilate to class..but I just didn't feel it- First why does the girl have a goose, 2 why is it's name just Goose, 3 who does it know the way to school, 4, how does a goose know how to play hopscotch. It just didn't feel me with any joy or smile on my face. It is the dreaded "it was fine, nothing special"
School is new to my 4-year-old, so she appreciates the apprehension that comes with school. She liked the goose and the idea of bringing a pet to school.
Sophie's friend/pet Goose follows her to school, even though geese aren't allowed. Goose hides pretty well, and Sophie's teacher can't spot Goose in the classroom. At recess, Goose joins all of the kids outside. Everyone loves Goose and Goose is encouraged to return the following day. Simple text and cute and colorful illustrations. Fans of Goose's other tales will enjoy this entry.
Note: This is the only Goose/Sophie book I've read, so I feel like I'm missing out on how they got to know each other! :)
Laura Wall's charcoal illustrations, finished with color digitally, are simple yet bold for this book about the first day of school for a young girl. Much like the nursery rhyme, "Mary Had a Little Lamb", Sophie has a little goose. Goose follows Sophie to school, helps her to meet new friends and get through her first day of school. Highly recommended for early childhood libraries. This would be a great book to read on the first day of school. The children could then think about the animal or pet they would like to have with them on the first day. This could spark conversations comparing and contrasting the animals the children would bring and inspired creative writing for lower elementary grade levels.
Sophie is going to school but her pet goose is no allowed to come. However she manages to get into the classroom and play at recess and wait for Sophie to go home. Butt will she be back tomorrow? Read and discover! Bright colorful illustrations pair up with simple text to make an enjoyable book for the story-time crowd. The story is simple and has been presented before. However, it is entertaining in itself. The expressions as well as drawings are simple and humorous. The variety of page backgrounds colors is well used. This would be a perfect addition to any elementary level library.
Notes: Add Goodreads series page. Harper. Hardcover Ages 4-8 ARC
Last year was Goose, and in reading that I did not like the book beyond the illustrations. The pictures are vibrant and pretty. First in Goose, Goose came home, now Goose Goes to School in quite a Mary has a little lamb fashion. After all, it made the children laugh and play to see a goose at school. This one I like. Maybe it is because of the connection to the nursery rhyme.
Goose is back in an all-new school adventure! Everyone knows geese don't go to school. So when Sophie hears flappy footsteps in class, it can't be Goose, can it? HONK! It is Goose! There's nothing better than a surprise visit from a friend, especially at school. Reading this heartwarming follow-up to Goose, readers will delight in Sophie and Goose's next fun-filled adventure.
This book is silly fun that the children enjoyed during storytime. :)
A story featuring white people--white women in shifts and pumps, white girls in dresses and Mary Janes, a classroom full of white children--from a bygone era. This book needs a makeover for the 21st Century.
Goose accompanies the protagonist to her first day of school in this short story filled with bright illustrations. Children will delight in pointing out goose during read-alouds. Recommended.
