As someone who has been blogging as a hobby, I've recently decided to put strategies in place to truly monetize my blogs. Pet Blogging for Love and Money lays out helpful tips in an easy-to-read conversational approach. The chapters are organized logically:

1. Pet Blog Basics
2. Find Your Voice
3. Creating Content
4. Blog Design
5. SEO
6. Measuring Traffic and Understanding Analytics
7. The Social Animal
8. Content Marketing
9. Join or Create a Blogging Community
10. Show Me the Money: How Do Pet Bloggers Make Money?
11. Turn Your Blog into a Business
12. The Blog Media Kit
13. Blog/Life Balance
14. The Pet Professional and Blogging
15. The Role of Blogging for Pet Rescues and Animal Shelters
Conclusion: What does the future hold for pet blogging?

I started my book/lifestyle blog in 2014, and I've been writing content for my dog blog since the summer of 2017. There were definitely some strategies being shared that were not new to me, but that didn't shock me. After blogging for five years, certain blogging tasks, like how to set up a website, I know how to do.

However, specific tactics recommended were incredibly helpful. In the chapter on Measuring Traffic and Understanding Analytics, I highlighted a suggestion about how to increase time on page. Basically, the tactic allowed me to identify 5-10 posts that I should analyze to try to keep people on those pages longer.

While I've tried to employ tactics to make my blog posts "stickier" to keep people around, honing in on the specific pages that have higher bounce rates allows me to measure any changes I put into place. Naturally, this will take time, but if I find certain changes working on these pages, I could analyze whether or not I want to utilize them on more pages.

Throughout the book these gems of wisdom consistently popped out at me. I found myself taking notes about how I might roll out different pieces of advice or use various resources suggested. I made 25 highlights, which is low for me probably because I was taking notes as I was inspired. I'm planning on reading this book again, perhaps specific sections at a time, as I work on specific areas of my blogs.

The one big wish I had was for a slightly different kind of case study approach. Each chapter ends with a case study of a specific blogger who's doing well with their pet blog. If you're totally new to pet blogging, then every site featured is worth checking out.

Don't get me wrong. I loved the case studies, but I did want a little more. I love data, so I really wanted to know how different bloggers approach their data. What do they track? Why? How does the data inform future content as well as optimizing older content? What data points do they ignore? It just seemed to me that with all the different pet bloggers interviewed, I bet each one has some unique twist on what data they pay attention to. Naturally, this inquiring mind wanted to know:)

Bottom line though, this user-friendly book works as a handy blogging guide. If you're a blogger looking to monetize your content, this book will help you. Even if you're not a pet blogger.

Yes, there are some pet specific pieces of information in here, but if you know your niche, you can tweak the pet-centered ideas into ones for your audience. You may even get some inspiration from visiting the pet websites featured in the case studies.

If you're thinking about starting a blog, this book will serve as a solid reality check for you. Blogging takes much more work than many people think. This book lays out the steps to effectively run your own site. There's even a chapter on finding balance between blogging and your life.

Unless you're already making a solid living from your blog, you can probably glean some wisdom from the strategies and resources within this book.

a solid book for people who are considering blogging and monetizing web content. I'm in a bit of a hybrid category because I write books and then dog articles for magazines as one of my primary gigs so creating my own monetized blog wouldn't be a good business decision for me (though is should have a better updated blog on my website - it's part of my business plan for 2020) and i do have a small monetized youtube channel (that started on a different theme and is now dog focused) . there was some information I already knew in this book, but a lot of new insights and approaches I hadn't considered or thought about that will be useful for me as i finalize social media strategies connected to my writing and business goals for next year and beyond!

Fantastic blogging book with information for bloggers at all levels. Unlike other blogging books out there, it goes into in-depth detail on all the information pet lovers to not just start their own blog, but succeed. Veteran bloggers even have things that they can learn to help monetize their blog, taking advantage of many of the fantastic traffic tools that are at their disposal ( including the most used social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. )). I also love how they broke the book into easy to read and digest chapters, allowing even pet lovers with a busy schedule to take the book in at their own pace. Overall, I consider Pet BLogging for Love & Money a must for anyone who is considering or has a pet blog.
