This was my first time with this author and I'm feeling rather...indifferent. It wasn't as if I really disliked the story or writing but I wasn't overly impressed either.

Let's see, I'll give you the basics...
Seb and Matt dated in high school.
Seb wanted more than Matt back then and never recovered from his broken heart.
Seb went to the Big Apple and has been successful with his career.
Said career is about to take him far far away.
Matt stayed in their small town and has become part of Seb's family, although Seb had no idea.
Seb comes home for the holidays and feels like a stranger in his own family.
Once he gets over his jealousy, he realizes Matt has stepped into his empty shoes and he's grateful. But he also realizes how lonely he is.
He misses his family and longs for another chance with Matt.
Maybe if he's really good, Santa will grant all his wishes this year.

See...not a bad story at all.
It just didn't resonate with me like I wish it had.
*fingers crossed*
Here's hoping it works better for you!

This is a sweet second chance festive romance with a lovely feeling of warmth to it.

It's a Dreamspinner Press release so don't expect too much steam. Instead there's a slow burn, family oriented relationship which picks up ten years after teenage fumblings were cut short.

I will just say though that having one of the character's nicknames be Baz really set my teeth on edge as I dislike that name.

But I just called him Seb in my head and all was well 😂

There is the usual moment of drama around the 75/80% mark which felt somewhat constructed for the tension point.

However, in the overall scheme of things, it fit within the narrative so I just ran with it.

The kids in the book never overtook things, and I loved that there were great female characters across the board.

Add in a really visual setting for the small town where Matty and Seb's journey back to each other begins, and I was overall pretty happy.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

This is a sweet story set around Christmas time with a second-chance trope. Back in high school, Sebastian was in love with his friend Matt but Matt didn't realize how Seb felt, and didn't take their relationship too seriously, wanting to keep things more casual. Sebastian went off to college and landed a great job as an event planner that has kept him away from home for years, while he earned money to help provide for his mother, sister, and young nieces.

Having been offered a job in London, Seb has returned to his small hometown to spend Christmas and New Year's with his family, hoping to reconnect before he decides to take the new job. What he didn't expect is to see Matt having become an integral part of the family.

The author set the scene fairly quickly, showing us how Seb is taken aback at Matt's familiarity, at his part in Seb's family, how Matt is like the uncle Seb wanted to be but couldn't because he was too busy earning money to support his family.

There's a part of Seb that never got over Matt and this is also rather clear from the get-go. The book follows these two men as they reconnect, realize that the fire they once had is still burning, and shows Seb's struggles to reintegrate himself with his family. Additional conflict is introduced with Seb's sister's ex-husband who is asking to have the girls for Christmas - it's his year, and now that he's got a fiance, he wants the girls to be with them, insisting that the custody agreement is met. This of course puts a huge damper on any plans Seb's family has made, and it's up to him to figure out a way to give his mom and sister what they really want - Christmas with the girls.

Seb was a really likable character. He seemed so sad when he first got back home and realized that his part in the family was basically non-existent after so many years away. He struggled with finding a way to be a part of them again, doing everything he could to help and support and get to know them again. There were some barbs thrown at Seb he just didn't deserve. Yes, his mom's shop was doing well and perhaps his money wasn't as needed as it used to be, but they continued to take it and then wondered why he felt a duty to provide for them. Once he got over the initial shock of seeing Matt again, he actually is grateful that the other man filled his shoes. And then realizes how lonely he's become over the years. And as time passes and he reconnects not only with his family, but also Matt, Seb begins to wonder if going to London is really the right choice, or if there's another way for him to have it all.

Some drama ensues around the 80% mark that I could spot coming from miles away, and I thought it was slightly out of line for Matt to say what he said.

Of course, this is a romance, so it all ends well, as expected. Sweet and easily read, this isn't a deep story, but the author drew her characters nicely, and I enjoyed the time I spent in its pages.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.75 stars

I liked the pacing of this story, which is told through both Matt’s and Seb’s points-of-view. Seb starts out cold and detached, which made sense considering his years away from home, but this extended vacation allows him to really see all that he’s missed. Seb’s quick visits home didn’t allow much quality time spent on his relationships. I enjoyed seeing Seb grow and develop as a character, even working on his little people skills with the nieces. Their sweetness brought a lot of lightness to the story. Matt has grown a lot from his ADHD teen years, and he’s in a position to be a steady partner to a good man—maybe Seb. Watching how hard Seb is trying to be a good son, brother, and uncle, Matt suspects helping Seb build his relationships might bring him back to Fir Falls more often. Naturally, as things get more interesting, they also get more complicated. Seb has to decide if he’s going for the money, or staying for the love. And, if he stays, if can he do anything to help Matt and Stephanie keep the girls over Christmas.

What a sweet love story. I love a good read when there is little drama and a lot of love. That is exactly how u would describe this book. Then you throw in the rest of trhw family and you have a great Christmas love story!!!

Sebastian has not been home in many years. He believed that by providing for his mom, sister, and sister two girls was most important but this year he is going home for a month before he takes a job transfer that will take him to London for three years. When he gets home and comes face to face from someone from his past, Seb is blown away. What makes it even more unnerving is evidently said person is now a part of his family.

Mar has not seen Sebastian since they broke up right out of high school. Now that Matt is basically part of Seb’s family because of being best friends with Seb’s sister, he is about to see Seb again. Matt cannot understand what has been so important to keep Seb away for so long but really it is not his business.

At first things are extremely awkward between Seb and Matt but the more time they are around one another the more the old feelings start to arise again. Seb has already had his heart broken once by Matt so he is not going to let that happen again. Instead Seb decides he can handle the whole friends with benefits. Or at least he can until he can’t and feelings start to interfere.

How will Matt react when he finds out about Seb’s job transfer? Will Seb decide to stay or will he carry on with his plan to move? How will Seb’s family react when they find out about his transfer?

This was a good read with very little drama. I really enjoyed all the different aspects of this book. It is such a sweet romance. Definitely a great Holiday Read!!!

Second chances are rare, and as this story shows, not always easy. Sebastian and Matt have both gone their own way after high school, and when Sebastian comes home for the first time in five years, a Christmastime reunion leads to all kinds of consequences. Neither man really knows what to do with their rediscovered feelings, family issues interfere, and Sebastian is torn between an amazing new job and what he might have with Matt if he can find the courage to try again. It’s a wonderful story filled with holiday cheer, two little girls who are much more perceptive than the adults want to give them credit for, an insistent ex interfering with the season’s spirit, and a slow-burn romance that had me filled with suspense as to whether Sebastian and Matt were going to make it.

The enchantment of the holidays is perfect for a second chance romance. Sandine Tomas gives us a sweet and lighthearted Christmas present with Santa’s Last Gift, combining family and two high school sweethearts reuniting after having lost touch for several years. It truly is the magic of the season.

Sebastian Chesnut (Baz) returns to his hometown of Fir Falls to spend the holidays with his family before embarking on a career change that will take him overseas. Seb has been away for several years advancing his career as an event planner. What he doesn’t expect to find is his high school boyfriend, the one who broke his heart. Matthew (Matt/Matty) Starr is now best friends with Seb’s sister and an integral part of the Chesnut family.

Growing over the years, Seb and Matt are different men now. Seb’s people skills have matured and continue to grow as he interacts with his family. The ADHD controlling Matt during his teenage years has settled, allowing him to have focus for relationships. One of the best parts to Santa’s Last Gift is observing Seb and Matt continue to grow. There is a profound realization that each had a role in past events which lead to their demise. But, now just maybe the time is right.

‘Santa’s Last Gift’ is not just love, romance, and bonding for Seb and Matt but it is full of the feelings that only the warmth and comfort of family provides.

The longer Seb spends with is family the more he realizes what he is missing. At first, he feels like an outsider. But as the reconnection with them and Matt occurs his heart engages, and an epiphany smacks him right upside the head… he misses his family and Matt. What a conundrum! Choose between the career wealth he is working for versus the wealth only family and love provide?

Of course, there is a bit of anxiety to stir things. It is the tense family drama only an ex can create but it only offers credibility to the story. And don’t you fret, Seb perseveres finding an acceptable solution that, in the end, becomes a new holiday tradition they all hold dear.

Matt being firmly a part of the Chesnut family begins strangely for Seb but he discovers it is precious and fills a mutual need that is as it should be. Santa’s Last Gift is not just love, romance, and bonding for Seb and Matt but it is full of the feelings that only the warmth and comfort of family provides. Santa’s Last Gift is best enjoyed covered with a comfy blanket, by a roaring fire, with a steaming mug of hot cocoa in hand.

I received a copy of this book free from the author for my honest review.

This book thawed my frozen heart.

I am not typically a fan of "Lifetime moves", Nicholas Sparks and all the fluffiness involved. But, this book was an exception. Maybe I just needed it?

Over the course of this story I found myself falling in love with Chance, Row, Matty, Baz, Steph and Ma. And I found a piece of myself in each of them as well. I also fell in love with Fir Falls and, to an extent, the Christmas season (of which I am a notorious grinch). Now, I want to believe in the magic of Christmas, second chances and found families.

All of the characters in the novel were well developed (well the primary ones, but the secondary ones still felt pretty solid). In most scenes I could feel what they were feeling and it helped me gain a deeper understanding of what the characters were going through.

I am a person who likes a lot of angst, and this did not provide that. But honestly, I wasn't missing it. None of the interactions between our characters felt forced and I think the addition of any more angst would have been forced.

One thing I truly appreciate about this was the amount of steamy scenes. I refrain from reading many adult novels because I do not care much for books that are pure smut. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate smut as much as the next woman. But, there is a time a place and with fluffy stories like this it can seem jarring and unwarranted. This book had the right amount of steam without it seeming gratuitous.

Overall this novel had a wholesome family feel and I was absolutely in love. The characters were wonderful and damaged in all the best ways.

Sandrine Tomas' Santa's Last Gift is a feel-good second chance Christmas romance.

When Seb returns home for Christmas, he finds that his ex boyfriend is now best friends with his sister. Seeing Matt as part of the family throws him, but also gives him a chance to reconnect with the man.

The tone is sweet, full of holiday feels. The family feel is full of warmth and love. And the way Matt is part of the family is amazing. The family feel is in full force with this one. It definitely has that Hallmark feel

The reunion between Seb and Matt is great, as it isn't full of anger or hate, but rather just some hesitation. Meanwhile, my heart breaks for Seb's sister and her situation, but I love how it works out in the end.

Be sure to check out Santa's Last Gift when you're in the mood for a sweet and fluffy Christmas romance. It won't disappoint.

I must confess that I have a tendency to skim through lengthy descriptive passages when I read...which is why I was surprised at how the enchanting descriptions--of the people, of the houses, of the holiday decorations and experiences--magically drew me into this sweet love story. And that is the other element that makes this book uniquely special, for it's not just a love story between the two main characters (although it is one very steamy love story!) but it is very much a love story about family--the one we're born into and the one we make by bringing in the people we care about. I cared about everyone in Seb's circle, I could feel how much the author cared about them as she told their story.

And if you aren't smiling at the end, well, you must be channeling the Grinch!

Yet another new author to me which can be a bit scary but I needn't have worried. Santa's Last Gift if sweet, emotional, family, romance and an all-around feel good story. I tend to give even less away when dealing with Christmas stories as the holiday can often be a character of their own. Holiday season is more than just a time of year, for some it's almost a way of life so I think these tales are far better when you can experience them for yourself. I'll just add the characters are likable, so much so I wish I could wrap Seb and Matty in a big red bow and pull them out of the pages to bring home and get to know. A lovely gem for any holiday library and a perfect one to help get you in the mood for the season.

After a long absence, Sebastian (Baz) returns home to his family. What was unexpected was seeing his high school sweetheart, Matty, in his old home. Playing uncle, brother, and son to Baz’s family. As they work through their various issues, Baz realizes he’s made a huge mistake in not coming home sooner.

Likable characters, participating in a small town, feel good Christmas. Some angst, some sexy times. Lots of family interaction.

The holidays bring so many books its hard to pick and choose what to read. This book had a decent storyline and was easy to get into. I liked it.

I'm just going to cut to the chase and say I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. I'm decidedly middle ground with this book. When it was steamy, the rating reaches closer to a solid four but everything just read okay for me. My holiday reading is winding down may have something to do with it. The pacing of the story was good but the reason for the eventual temporary eruption of romance was a neon sign read a mile away. It was a solid book.

It has been 5 years since Seb had visited his family, and this Christmas, he was dead set on being there. All he had do was impress his new boss, and the way to do that was to help the client succeed. Even though Seb hadn’t been big on the holiday hoopla since working for promotions and events, he was looking forward to seeing his whole family.

With the craziness of the family came a blast from the past, which, apparently, has never left. It’s not often that an old boyfriend remains close to a family and practically be part of it. Even though Seb and Matt have been apart for a while, that old feeling is still there. While avoiding another relationship, the two work side-by-side to create the perfect Christmas for their nieces.

For the most part, story was well-written, but I found the pace quite lagging, not quite progressing at the speed it should’ve been. Although the story centered mostly on Seb and Matt, I also thought there were a few too many characters. But I liked how the two work together for the sake of the children.

A decent holiday read.

This is part of the Dreamspun Desires imprint and does fulfill the brief.
For me, character driven stories are not my first choice and there wasn’t enough other for me. It does follow the standard romance - meet, or re meet in this case, get together, great misunderstanding followed by grand gesture!
Matty is super good, being perfect pseudo Uncle to the girls. Seb has sacrificed himself to,career to support his mum and sister.
This is one best read with a fire roaring while snow falls outside!

A sweet MM Christmas story with a hallmark feel and a HEA.

Without giving spoilers I feel like the relationships between Matty and Seb's sister were glossed over and I was just as confused as Seb was because it was never explained when that relationship happened.

There were plenty of individual things about this story I liked—the characters, the setup, the small town; but I’m still a little on the fence about one aspect of the story, the dilemma with Sebastian’s sister’s kids. I’ll be the first one to admit I’m not much for kids in romance stories since I prefer the focus to be on the couple and their relationship development, but I am usually okay with kids if they don’t become the central focus.

For the most part, Sebastian and Matthew seem ideally suited for each other in this second chance story. Well, except for the part of Sebastian getting ready to take a job on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean in the new year…so there’s the hurdle for them to overcome. They’re just as drawn to each other and their chemistry is just as strong as when they were in high school, and though Sebastian knows there’s a time limit on anything between them he still pursues Matty to at least have a good time before he goes.

But regardless of how flighty Matty may have acted in high school, it is beyond obvious that his attitude and priorities have changed over the years. He is fully devoted to Sebastian’s family, and even though he realizes Sebastian is only visiting, he falls right back into his old feelings as well. It could still work, right?

As for the dilemma with the kids spending the holiday with their dad instead of Sebastian’s sister—I was looking at it from a neutral point of view thinking if I was their dad, I’d be wanting my turn with the kids for the holidays. I get that the sister, mother, Matty, and the kids were really close-knit…but I’m also a “fair is fair, follow your agreement” person so I was a bit frustrated by them going back to this again and again. While they did work out something in the end, the mini-drama around this part of the story was kind of “meh” for me.

Overall, I’m giving Santa’s Last Gift 3.5 stars, and that’s in large part due to how much I liked Sebastian and Matthew’s characters as individuals as well as how they just clicked as a couple. This story is for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

Can you say “Hallmark” story that’s gay? This was a sweet romance between two men who had been hot for each other in high school but lost touch over the years. Sebastian (Seb) has become a successful event planner in New York and has lived there for five years, taking on extra jobs and money that he can send to his mom and divorced sister back in their small town. He skypes with them and his nieces when he can, but he’s busy making sure they’re taken care of. At least, that’s what he tells himself. He goes back for a Christmas vacation and to break the news to them that he’s moving to London. But things don’t go as planned when he walks into his home and finds his old heartthrob Matt there, acting as if he was the son/brother/uncle that Seb was supposed to be. Seb is jealous until he realizes that Matt has been what Seb can’t—and that he still has feelings for Matt.

What I liked: The reaction of the little girls—Seb’s nieces—to Seb in the flesh. Seeing someone on a small phone and seeing them in person are two different things and the author does a good job of showing their reluctance to warm up to the stranger. I liked the play between Seb and Matt—part memory, part new feelings, and all mixed up. I liked that the story is all about family—the drama, the love, the connections and the distance. It’s about give and take.

What I didn’t like: The nastiness between Stephanie (sister of Seb) and her ex. Yes, it happens. But in retrospect, it all worked out in the end. I was also a little confused as to why Matt was so entwined with Seb’s family. Yes, they’re friends, but it just seemed a little much to me. Maybe that’s me.

Recommendation: For a sweet holiday romance with a satisfying ending, pick this one up. It’s got realistic characters, great small town descriptions, some angst, some sex, lots of family stuff, and more. Recommended.

I enjoyed this story about a second chance at love.

I thought both men felt very real, as did their reactions to what happens in the story. I loved their connection, and how they are awkward around each other at first, then rediscover friendship and more. I liked that the author showed them at work, and how good they both are at what their chosen paths in life.

I loved the family vibe, and how, although the Chesnut’s aren’t Matt’s family they are his family by choice, and that Seb, feels like the outsider because he hasn’t been around. I felt for Matt and the stark difference between the atmosphere of his own home growing up, and the welcoming down to earth vibe of Seb’s family. I also liked how Seb’s nieces slowly warm to him as they get to know each other and I felt for him not knowing his family and feeling like Matt is more family than he is. I loved Steph, Seb’s sister, and her friendship with Matt. This story has several strong women, which I like.

I also liked the glimpses of Jackson, Matt’s apprentice, and Cameron, and would love to read more about them.

This story reminded me of a Hallmark movie, and I mean that in a very positive way as I love Hallmark Christmas movies, and I loved the theme through it that home isn’t a place, it’s being with the people you love.

The ending made me happy and I loved the peek with the epilogue into the future. All in all a very satisfying read, which I thought was perfect for Christmas but also for any time of the year.

I’d recommend this story to readers who enjoy feel good, low angst Christmas stories with realistic characters, and a strong family vibe.

"Santa's Last Gift" is a sweet, low-key story of a second chance love between two former high-school boyfriends. Sebastian and Matty haven't seen each other in 10 years, what with Sebastian living in Manhattan hard at work as an event planner and Matty remaining in their home town earning a reputation as a talented artist. With Seb's continued absence due to working so hard to provide for his family, Matty steps in as beloved uncle, brother and son.

When they were seventeen, Matty thought their relationship was casual, but it broke Seb's heart when Matty moved on to another boyfriend. Now they have a second chance at getting it right and throughout the course of the book, they slowly reaffirm that love. There are a lot (a lot) of sweet scenes with Seb's nieces Chance and Rowan as well as some light family drama until there is a final angsty moment between Seb and Matty before a happy ending and a sweet epilogue.

The plot offers no surprises and is big on family togetherness and happy endings. The pace of the story is slow and steady, and while the ending brings everything together in a neatly tied package, it feels a bit too predictable and staid IMHO (but your results may vary!). 3.25 stars.

I have a question... why do we have a man with a beard on the cover of this book? I know, men grow beards all the time, and this is a very nice looking man... but not once is there a mention of a beard in this book... unless you count Santa Claus! *snort* LOL!!!

Now, my thoughts on the story!!! *grin*

Matty and Seb... two young high school lovers that go their separate ways after school and meet up in Seb's family home years later, and that's when things get complicated! We learn a lot about event planning, artwork and several interesting bits of advice on child-rearing after a divorce, but we didn't get a lot of lines that pulled at our heartstrings. Sad to say, this was a beautiful story that didn't bring a tear to my eye, and rarely a smile to my face. Maybe it was just me... and maybe I was too distracted by RL while reading this one... either way, I plan to give this author another chance just as soon as I can pick up another book by her!

I found this story lots of fun to read. I loved all of the characters from Matt and Seb to Seb's mom, sister and of course the two little girls. I love second chances and this was a good example. There are a couple of interesting subplots like the issue of Seb's sister's divorce and the kids having to spend the holiday with their dad and Seb's looming job offer.
The story is sweet, romantic at times, and witty too. (I hope to get to see Jackson and Cam's story soon!)
If you like event planners, artists, second chances, cute kids, holiday stories and a sweet, hot romance you will like this.

Sebastian seems to be battling himself and his personal responsibilities. He really has helped his family stay afloat but coming home is causing him to shift his thinking and it is taking him time to figure out what to do next. As he reconnects with his family and his old friend it gives him a whole new perspective. Helping to make dreams come true really gives him what he needs to move forward in a new way. I love the epilogue and the way it wraps and how we get to see how it all works out.

So sweet. I really enjoyed watching Seb and Matty figure out how to have a relationship with everything from their past but with everything in the present too.

I loved Seb's family and how open they are and how they brought Matty into their family which he needed but I think they needed him too. This was a nicely written story and great storyline.
