TRAGEDY BROUGHT US TOGETHER, BUT SOMETHING STRONGER MADE ME WANT TO STAY.
Rick The weeks and months after losing Leo were the hardest I have endured. But my friends and my rock of a PA, Paula, helped drag me back into the world. Paula sent me on a break to Valencia. Will I be forever grateful to her for how it turned out?
Tommy Wow, just Wow, that was my first impression when I met Rick at the Beach. All the money I had meant nothing to me. I needed someone to love. Was Rick the someone? Was I ready to love again? Was Rick everything he appeared to be?
B. J. Smyth writes spicy, emotional MM romance filled with possessive older men, jealous lovers, and the kind of heartache that hurts so good. His stories explore age gaps, and broken boys who just need the right man to put them back together.
He’s obsessed with writing characters who fall hard, fight dirty, and love fiercely — often with a little drama, a lot of spice, and just the right amount of angst. Whether it's a hot daddy, a manipulative ex, or a jealous flatmate causing trouble, B. J. delivers romance that’s raw, real, and impossible to put down.
When he's not writing, he's probably plotting the next book over coffee, binge-watching queer dramas, or getting inspired by TikTok thirst traps.
If you're here for the spice, the feels, and the messy men who fall hard and fast — you’re in the right place.
Tommy lost his Daddy a year ago in a plane crash. His Daddy left him everything. He is now rich and miserable without his Daddy. Around the same time, Rick lost his beautiful boy in a motor accident. His friend and PA send him on a holiday to Valencia, Spain.
A lovely story where two lost souls, in need of caring and taking care of, finally find peace with each other. It’s a sweet and emotional story where we get a look into their lives. All enough developed to get to know them. Their need to connect, their pain and grieve, all were palpable but bearable. The surroundings were great, we get a good look at Valencia. All well written with a good eye for scenery. Overall a sweet, comfortable story, where Daddy and his boy get their second chance of happiness.
this was so freakin adorable.. it was soo heart breaking as well but then it puts you back together. it made me smile and tear up.. i was totally rooting for these two. very good. i loved it
Tommy and Rick are both heartbroken after losing their partners a year ago. I enjoyed watching them get to know each other and seeing Valencia through their eyes. Can a holiday romance become something lasting? Will Rick return to the UK? Can they open their hearts after tragedy? A shortish, sweet holiday romance. 4.5 stars
Valencia with love by B. J. Smyth is a stand-alone about second chances, about love & friendship and how to move on in life and relationships. Here we see a more sensitive side of B.J’s writing with an emotional heartbreaking start to Tommy & Rick’s story- there’s no warm up we are just thrown right into this captivating story from the off. Both Tommy & Rick have suffered a huge loss individually that both have struggled to overcome, but after some time they both feel a keen sense of loneliness and need to be loved and both miss being in a relationship-they have different needs in a relationship, one’s preference is being a boy, the other being the daddy figure and once they meet its sparks galore in that exciting first stage of romance kind of way. It’s from here the story takes on a life of its own- lots of meetings, dates, messages that make you melt with the sweet way these guys connect, without the over the top drama that can sometimes detract from a story like this. However these guys are on a timeline after all Rick has a life elsewhere and will be needed back very soon- will they be able to compromise to stay together or will Rick walk away for good? You must read this to find that particular answer out ;-)
The Daddy/ boy dynamic was subtle but clearly defined, enjoyable to read and I felt that connection between the two of them and was rooting for them from the very beginning. The secondary characters were entertaining and I also loved the fact that their previous partners were painted in a positive light, rather than the negative that we can very often see in many stories, they just almost seamlessly came together and meshed so well it was as if they’d known each other forever.
B. J. Smyth has crafted a beautiful romance that is very different to all his other work so far. His writing is still bold and to the point but with the story content it needed to be sensitive and and it really was- it was extremely but instead of focusing on the despair has created an uplifting and positive tale that wraps around your heart and squeezes it, it’s warming, it’s everything that’s good and I’ll defy anyone that doesn’t end up smiling by the end of this book.
Anyone considering this book would be misguided if they dismissed it as “daddy kink.” It’s more about two beautiful souls coming to terms with individual grief and taking the first tentative steps towards finding happiness again.
The author has created two utterly believable and lovely characters in Rick and Tommy. Cynics can turn around and go back home because there is insta-love and a holiday romance in a lush Valencia setting, in which two people find new soul mates after losing their beloved partners. Yes, as the blurb says, it is truly uplifting and positive, and Lord knows we need that right now, right?
It isn’t a long book, but it reads like a full-length novel, with fully-rounded characters, sparky dialogue and a good, even pace. I devoured it in a couple of evenings, as I wanted to see how it would end. Not having read the Daddy/Boy dynamic before, I was a little wary, but this is all about tenderness, supporting and loving your partner and nurturing them. It’s a two way street, equal partners fulfilling the needs the other has. The sex is hot too, but that isn’t a huge part of the book.
This story is beautiful, and I recommend you read it if you need a book to wrap around you like a warm blanket on a cold winter night. I’ll definitely read more by this author.
What a heartbreaking and beautiful love story. At the beginning of the book I want to cry for Tommy and Rick. It was so sad. It warmed my heart when they found each other and happiness again. I loved the mood of the book, the descriptions of Valencia, the connection between Tommy and Rick. It was just so beautiful and well written. I really really wish it was a full length novel. I wanted to spend more time with those wonderful characters and their story.
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Time is irrelavant Rick had said about meeting his first boy. It remains true for a second chance at love with Tommy. Pulls on the heartstrings but well worth it!
This was gut wrenching right from the first few lines, it had me in tears. For anyone who has lost someone really close this will be tough reading at first, the author fills the lines so well with pain, grief, and sadness. I won't rattle on about the plot, it's up above in the blurb, but I want to say that I've read several of this authors works and he gets emotion slapped on the pages, and he certainly did it this time. This is sweet, sweet, sweet, two men thrown into the depth of grief and loneliness meet and we watch as sparks of life slowly ignite.
Emotionally compelling story about the redeeming triumph of love after tragedy. Rick and Tommy have both lost their partners and are emotionally raw. Neither was looking for love but it found them and healed them.
Two souls given a second chance at love after losing their other half. No one says it will be easy. If they work through all the issues thrown at them this one might just last a lifetime.
I was looking forward to reading this book as the storyline intrigued me but unfortunately this is only an okay read for me. I like Tommy and Rick individually but I really don't feel a connection between them other than their grief over the loss of their respective partners. Their lack of chemistry and the odd writing style made it difficult for me to enjoy this story. I really liked the relationships that they had with their employees and the author does an excellent job describing the city of Valencia. The ending is a bit disappointing and I wish that this story was longer so that we would have more time to get to know the characters and find out if they get their HEA.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
This book was so full of emotions and they hit me from the opening pages. Tommy lost his Daddy & Rick lost his Boy to accidents in the same year. Rick's assistant books him on Holiday to Valencia. I loved watching these two slowly get to know each other, going on dates and finally allowing their hearts to open and heal. Their Daddy/Boy dynamics was very subtle and I would have liked a little deeper connection in that aspect. My only issue is that the story wasn’t longer. I want to know how they worked out the living situation and see them settled together in a relationship.
ARC provided by LesCourt Services in exchange for an honest review.
3.5 stars and I want a physical copy that I can throw down in frustration. This is a great story about two people finding each other after they have both lost the ones they love. It was a wonderful book until I got to the end and wanted to know what happened to the rest of the story. You know the characters want forever, but this is a HFN ending which isn't what I want. I thought there would be more instead of the scene at the airport. The writing is nice and the characters are full of emotion. I want more about them and how they are going to last with them living in two different countries.
I enjoyed reading this sweet, emotional MM second-chance love story. The plot is well-written, interesting but quite heartbreaking to read at times. The characters are fairly well-developed & portray realistic emotional feelings about the loss of a loved one & the discovery of a possible new love. There is: a sweet Boy (Tommy) battling to come to terms with the loss of his Daddy (Juan) comes into contact with a Daddy Dom (Rick) who is also trying to come to terms with the loss of his Boy (Leo), drama, tragedy, grief, vulnerability, memories, advice, caring friends, attractions, some deceit, sightseeing, longings, decisions, happiness, mild steam & a HFN
Heartbreaking and equally heart warming story of Tommy & Rick who have both lost their loved one's in tragic circumstances. Since the death of Juan in an plane crash Tommy has been left everything but the one thing he needs to mend his broken heart - a Daddy! Rick's heart is broken after his love Leo was killed in a motorcycle accident but with encouragement from his brilliant PA Paula she books him a holiday to Valencia where he spots a beautiful young man. Could he be the 'boy' to mend his heart? Loved the characters and secondary characters Franco & Paula. Another great book B.J. Smyth.
I really loved the premise of this book. Tommy tragically lost his Daddy, Rick tragically lost his boy. Rick, while on vacation, meets Tommy and together they are able to heal and learn to love again. This book is well written and honestly seems like a great introduction story. I personally would love to see Rick and Tommy's relationship evolve and really get a chance to see their Daddy/boy relationship built up and played out. Overall, I found this to be a good, light-hearted read that skims the surface of the Daddy/boy dynamic.
Reading one of this author's books is like going home... you feel so comfortable! He established his characters so quickly and tells the story so concisely. This one has two men from different walks of life and different countries, both having had losses in their lives, yet secretly hoping to find love again. The story doesn't disappoint. It was a joy to read... and I anxiously await the new chapter.
Valencia with Love is a stand alone Daddy/Boy novella by BJ Smyth. It's the heartbreaking, yet sweet story of two men who find each other after losing their long time loves. Tommy, a sweet, kind boy who lost his Daddy, Juan, and Rick who lost his beautiful, boy Leo in a tragic motorcycle accident. Even though Daddy/Boy is typically not my jam, I really enjoyed this emotional, sexy little read about finding love again.
Such a sweet and heart warming story about finding love again. Both Rick and Tommy lost their partner and are living lost and lonely. Until a forced vacation and chance meeting brings them together. And the sweet, loving and emotional journey of healing begins. BJ Smyth does such a wonderful job of portraying the pain and hope the MCs feel that you are able to feel it along with them. Loved this sweet romantic story
Tommy and Rick are so wonderful. What a lovely story with these two lost souls in need of love and care finally find peace with each other. From the first page I had tears but as the story continued I started to feel happy for these two when they first meet and as the story started to develop.
This is such a sweet and emotional story I definitely recommend this book!!!
This was a cute read. if you’re not into daddy/boy relationships this book isn’t for you.
I liked how the author showed the grief even though it was a quick read it didn’t feel like he was rushing anything. I would of liked it to be longer to explore the new relationship that the two characters share but i enjoyed what i read!
Valencia With Love by BJ Smyth is a contemporary m/m romance with a Daddy/Boy dynamic. It is about finding a new beginning, new love and new hope after tragic loss. Tommy and Rick both lost so much when they lost their partners, but with each other they find something that heals and comforts. Sweet and a fantastic quick read.
Both main characters have lost their partners, one a daddy , one a boy. Rick's PA books him on a much needed vacation to Valencia where he meets Tommy and what follows is the sweetest story of love after tragedy. A new daddy for Tommy and a new boy for Rick. I loved it.
I liked the romantic dates and the detailed descriptions of Valencia...so much that I'd love to go during their Festival time. I like how Rick and Tommy were able to open their hearts to love after loss.
I didn't feel a great connection to either character and thought the sex was rushed. Not a whole lot of romance that made it 'loving.'
This was a sweet book. It was heartwarming and heartbreaking all at once.
I liked both Tommy and Rick. They were both sweet and went through so much.
I would have loved to see more of the daddy/boy relationship, and maybe get a little more out of the characters. It was sweet but it felt like there was a little something missing. In any case, a nice read
This book started with promise for me but it went downhill when Tommy and Rick met. I didn't believe in their relationship. It was billed as a daddy/boy story but I really didn't accept that. It was an okay romance but that was it for me. I will be reading more by this author though as I can see that they do have a talent for storytelling and writing.
reading how they come together is great. Sweet M/M novel. I couldn't put it down. I love the characters and my heart broke for each of them. Well worth a read.
