While undergoing a bone marrow transplant, Linda Dumars is shocked when her marrow is stolen during the procedure, and she must depend on Alex Glauberman, moonlighting detective, to get it back for her and save her life.
What seems like mystery, says a reggae lyric by Jimmy Cliff, is only untold history. I've written both crime novels and history books, as well popular economics (another mystery, for sure). Some of these have been translated into Japanese, Danish, Hungarian, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Bulgarian.
Most recently, a few years living in Cuba led me to do translation myself, from Spanish to English, and to co-author a social history of Havana with a Cuban colleague. We tell what it's been like for people living in the Cuban capital over the past five centuries, and something about why.
You can find some of my translations linked via this author page; others won't show up here, because the industry is still ambivalent about translators, but if you search by my name you'll find them.
I know the author needs to set up the background for the story, but this took too long. For the first 40% of the book, I kept debating putting it down and just forgetting about it because it did not seem to actually be progressing. Once I got to 40%, the book did finally take off.
Then I got to the end, and it felt very rushed. Various things just happened, and everything just worked out perfectly. The bad guy comes out of nowhere, and there was no hints as to who it was.
Overall, I finished this book, but cannot imagine reading another book by this author.
I have had a lot of experience in dealing with cancer and bone marrow transplants, so this subject was interesting for me. I learned more about the procedure, and also about the things that could go wrong. This book will definitely give me something to think about if I ever have to have a bone marrow transplant. Well-written book, and it kept me interested.
When you are at your most vulnerable and someone takes something that could mean life or death you sure hope you have this guy in your corner to help you get it back before the clock runs out! Excellent read!
Great adventure, but hard to believe that there would be such a lack of security for such precious commodities. I definitely enjoyed the unique character connections.
