This book is based on a Jewish folktale about a mythical giant bird. In the story, King solomon asks the ziz to help make his daughter happy. The two form a friendship until the princess falls in love and the ziz becomes jelous. The book explores the feelings of jelousy and guilt over lying in a way that is relatable to young children. The artwork by Katherine Janus Kahn is bright, bold and beautiful. The ziz looks like such a fun companion that I want to "take a ride on his red wing."
