About the author

Ernest William Hornung known as Willie, was an English author, most famous for writing the Raffles series of novels about a gentleman thief in late Victorian London.

In addition to his novels and short stories Hornung wrote some war verse, and a play based on the Raffles stories was produced successfully. He was much interested in cricket, and was "a man of large and generous nature, a delightful companion and conversationalist".

Picked this book up again and then promptly devoured it in an evening stretching into the wee hours of the morning. The famous bushranger with the dapper clothing and genteel bearing, who has never killed a man and clever in his thefts. Stingaree!!!

How is Hornung so good with crafting “villains” (really, antiheroes) that you can’t help but love? Love FULLY and ARDENTLY. Every single second was spent waiting for Stingaree to pull off either his caper or his escape, and several bits were decidedly funny.

I absolutely loved how the first and last chapter bookmarked each other, and I’m glad Stingaree didn’t meet the same ending that poor Raffles got.

My heart is full!!
