NOLA Knights #2

Hers to Tame

Rate this book
Book two of NOLA Knights, the heart-stoppingly sexy spin-off series by Men of Haven author Rhenna Morgan

As an avtoritet for the most powerful crime syndicate in New Orleans, Kir Vasilek doesn’t act without purpose, doesn’t speak without thought and never, ever loses his cool. The lives of his brothers, his family, depend on it. But then Cassie McClintock strolls back into his life, and staying cool is next to impossible. Cassie was the one who got away—and Kir is willing to break all his own rules to keep it from happening ever again.

It’s one thing to report on the Russian mafia; it’s quite another to sleep with one of them, especially one as dangerous, and as sinfully sexy, as Kir Vasilek. Even though the information he once provided helped make her career—and the memory of his touch still keeps her up at night—Cassie knows too much about his world to go down that path.

But when Kir reaches out for help after a rival family comes for one of his own, Cassie doesn’t want to say no, either to investigating a gruesome murder or to the heat that pulls her right back into his arms…and his heart. Taming Kir—and helping to save the family she’s come to call her own—is not the story she thought she’d write, but it’s the one she’s determined will get a happy ending.

Hers to Tame is the highly anticipated follow-up to His to Defend. And don’t miss Roman’s story in Mine to Keep, coming soon from Rhenna Morgan and Carina Press.

Hers to Tame is book two in the NOLA Knights series by Rhenna Morgan. I need to say right here at the beginning that this book right here, this one, is why I read. This man, Kir, is all my very favorite heroes wrapped up in one delicious package. I love him so much. But in this book, he only has eyes for Cassie, and will stop at nothing until he makes her his.

Kir Vasilek is thirty six years old. He works for the most powerful man in organized crime in New Orleans, Sergei, whom you may have read about in the first book in this series. Kir’s family are the people he has chosen as his family, the people he surrounds himself with every day. His loyalty to these people knows no boundaries. He will do anything to keep them safe.

Cassie McClintock is twenty five and is a news reporter for a local TV station in New Orleans. She first met Kir several months ago when working on a story. Their chemistry was undeniable and they spent a couple of passion filled nights together. But when Cassie realized just who Kir worked for, she knew continuing to see him would be frowned upon by her network. So she cut ties.

Neither has ever forgotten the other. When their paths cross again, Kir knows he can’t let her walk away again. He never thought he would find what Sergei has. But with Cassie, he can see it all within his grasp. He just has to prove to her that he is worthy of her.

A death within Vir’s family gives him the reason he needs to keep Cassie close. She is just beginning to accept that Vir has other intentions for her when a threat surfaces. Now it becomes evident just how serious Vir is as he takes measures to keep her safe.

Cassie has never experienced a close knit family and with Vir’s family, she finds herself enveloped in their midst. They welcome her with open arms. She only has to let go of her insecurities from her past and accept them.

Choose Happiness - 4X10 Box Sign – Sixtrees

I never thought I’d react the way I did to Kir. He is so proper, his manner of speech so perfect. But every word out of his mouth made me melt. His protectiveness, the way he treated Cassie, his loyalty, all of it! The things this man said! Just Wow!

washing her hair

I couldn’t put this down as Cassie and Kir found their way together. Cassie’s Aunt Frieda was so much fun. And of course, we get some appearances from our beloved characters from the Men of Haven series. Rhenna Morgan seems to have the ability to pick out all the favorite things from my mind and write them into her books. How she does it, I don’t know. But what I do know is that I will continue to read her books. The next book in this series will be Roman’s story, Mine to Keep.

“My beauty.
My prize.
My heart.”

Five amazing alpha goodness stars!!! Kir is beyond the perfect hero...he’s what other heroes strive to be!

”When Russian men decide who they want, they’ll move heaven, hell and the big bad wolf all at once to make them theirs.”

Eight months ago, Cassie began to make a name for herself with the release of several news stories involving one of New Orleans’ questionable citizens. It was no coincidence that Kir was a large resource during her work on the case. However, when his own character and connections are called into question, she ghosted him, leaving him with no explanation. Now, her well is dry and she’s struggling to stay on her professional feet. Perhaps it’s time to confront the man that has held way too many thoughts in her mind.

TV Breaking News Screen Background by in8finity on @creativemarket

Cassie had a lot of hang ups regarding her professional and lifestyle choices, all of them due to her family. As the underachiever and black sheep, she’s lived life in constant turmoil, never measuring up to their expectations. All of this shines through in her thoughts and insecurities. She wasn’t your typical tough heroine, but when she needed to be strong, she was more than capable.

Image may contain: one or more people and closeup

As for Kir...there are not enough words to describe him. He was totally swoon worthy in that he cared for Cassie in a way that you don’t see a lot of heroes do, even when they’re the strong alpha type. She was first in everything and he never hesitated to let her know exactly where she stood with him. Protective, possessive, with a few instances of jealousy, he was so sweet, kind and caring that I was a drooling mess.

”It’s not about fair, milaya. Where I come from, a man with any semblance of honor will always look out for the woman he is with.”

While this is centered around a mystery that added a bit of drama, the crux of the story is the romance and Cassie’s acceptance of Kir and the family. A lot of the excitement surrounding the bad guy is off page, and while I did feel a bit cheated by that, I was thrilled at Cassie’s response. She really grew throughout this book and it was completely believable.

This also has some wonderful secondary characters, most from the first book as well as books from the Men of Haven series, but it also introduced us to the potential for a new heroine that I want, badly. Included was Cassie’s Aunt Frieda who was just as amazing as this author’s other older women/mother figures. She was a real hoot and I hope we see more of her as well.

Overall, this was a wonderful story, filled with emotion and blooming with romance all wrapped up in an alpha’s arm.

Super story and super hot in parts. Kir is a total alpha. Yum.
~~~~~~
There’s something about an alpha hero with that little bit of dark edge to him. That intensity and all consuming heat was perfectly developed in this delicious character.
Kir is a complete take control kinda guy and is making sure Cassie doesn’t slip away again. When trouble comes to her door, he finds the perfect opportunity to make sure that he’s the only one protecting her.
The author brings a steamy story of the one who got away and the hot ass gentleman who turns up her heat index. But is he really who he says he is? Or are the rumors right about his family?
Great story, complex characters, and a perfect ending makes this one to enjoy!
reread in preparation for book 3
Still not a fan of him sleeping with OW and then randomly running into the h which kickstarts their romance
Still not a fan of him having to be convinced to pull out all the stops to get his girl
Still I am a fan of this author's so my rating will remain
Spoilers ahead, 2.5*
Kir and Cassie met some 8 months previously as he gave her some info on a bad guy that helped her get recognition and land a better journalism job. During the course of her journalistic investigation one of Cassie's co workers informed her that Kir was mafiya. Shocked that the man she'd had such a great connection and sex with was involved in such Cassie ghosted Kir, never answering his calls.
In the present they run into each other as Kir is celebrating his birthday, when one of Kir's men is murdered he proposes that he and Cassie work together as she did the initial research on the organization. While they've stayed away from each other for months, close proximity however shows that the chemistry between the two is as strong as ever. Kir finally realises that he's found his ONE but a threat to Cassie sends him into overprotective mode.....and then person strikes disrupting not only Kir and Cassie but threatening harm to her new family
*************
1) First of all we didn't get the initial meeting between these two we're just told what went down. I immediately felt cheated because I adore the first meetings of the mcs
2) I continued reading however and then I came upon thisi
“You’ve never given a woman your time or attention more than once, but you did for her. Now that I think on it, your eagerness to bed every woman in New Orleans increased shortly after your second round with her. Perhaps she scared you.”
Whyyyyyyyyy would you do this dear author?????? I'm stunned! What makes this reference worst is that when Kir decided to be with Cassie he was the type of possessive, protective Alpha that I love so whyyyyyyyyy would he have sex with OW(apparently multiple😭) after having sex with Cassie???? It was only a few months why couldn't he have suddenly become busy at work and kept his dick in his pants?!!?? Cassie ghosting him wasn't an excuse, the type of Alpha male that Kir is was supposed to go after her dammit!!!!!( This lowered my rating from 4* to 2.5* 😭😭😭)
3) When they do reconnect Kir, because of issues from his childhood, is reluctant to start up anything with Cassie until ONE chat with Sergei nullifies his fears of his past and then he's all in! I mean I love Sergei but c'mon!!!! It was like a switch flipped and he was alllllllll in
4)Cassie was an ok enough h, I did think i saw too much of her job especially as she changed career paths. I liked that both her and Kir handled the relationship maturely and communicated with each other and she didn't go off recklessly on her own
5) I enjoyed seeing Sergei, Evette and the crew from Haven and look forward to Roman's story as I already love Bonnie
I'm a fan of this author's so I do admit to being disappointed that Kir not only was a manwhore but that he had sex with others after being with Cassie. This author is on my tiny auto buy list so I'm hopeful that she'll leave the manwhore/womanwhore characters that's so prevalent in cr these days alone
No cheating
No OW/OM drama
No discussion of sexual practises during the months apart between the mcs
Having loved the previous book His to Defend. I was really looking forward to starting this.
And it’s a fabulous little read. I liked all the characters. Especially Kir. Cassie is also a strong intelligent female.
Why only 3.5*?
I’m not sure.
It’s a nice easy and enjoyable read.
I don’t know how to explain it. I just felt like something was missing.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting my request for an ARC of this book. The review below is entirely my own opinion.
I totally LOVED this book! It’s the second story in the spin-off series from Rhenna Morgan's Men of Haven books. And it’s one of my favorite reads of 2020.
Kir is the kind of alpha-tastic mafiya book boyfriend that I absolutely adore. Gah, and the way he spoke to Cassie? OMG. Wow. Where can I get me some of that? 🔥🥰❤️
I thought that I was in love with Sergei (from book1) but I think Kir just bumped him right off. Kir has got a swoony, eloquent way of just making your heart melt and sigh. I loved him. LOVED HIM.
Cassie is Kir’s perfect complement. She’s smart and soft, yet tough and loyal in all the ways it counts. When she comes into her own, you can’t help but be thrilled for her. She has an awesome personality.
I couldn't put this book down. Stayed up reading way past when I needed to sleep but I don’t regret a thing.
I loved that there wasn't a lot of angst; but the plot had enough thrills/action to keep me interested. And boy! the chemistry between the MC’s was NOT lacking heat. Holy smokes! The sparks between Kir and Cassie were intense and volcano hot!
Such a great book, I tell you. And I cannot freaking wait for Roman and Bonnie’s book!
If you’re a fan of Ms Morgan, a fan of her Men of Haven series, a fan of the first NOLA Knights book, you have to read this one! You will fall in love with Kir and Cassie. You will grow to love Sergei, Evie, Roman, and Olga even more. You will get cameos from the Dallas peeps. Ahhhhhh. ❤️❤️❤️ I cannot say enough good things about this story. Just go out and grab it when it comes out. I highly recommend it.
Hers To Tame is the second book in the NOLA Knights and is to be released March 2020. I was so excited to read this one here and Rhenna Morgan didn't disappoint in any way. *sigh* this series has had such a great start here and I like that it connects to her "Haven Brotherhood" series. I do have a weakness for mafia-type setups and Morgan has done such a superb job in how she has crafted this world and delivering such a swoony romance that any romance reader will be able to get on board with and cheer these characters on.
Our delightful story begins with Cassie McClintock and how she has just moved into a new house after saving and saving. She works as a journalist/reporter and even though she is good at what she does, her real passion is photography. But currently, that is an unachievable dream for Cassie. But after a conversation with her aunt, she discovers a need to resolve a past regret. Cassie fell hard for Kir Vasilek. But when she ignored his calls and voicemails because of certain reservations she had, she knew it was wrong not to come clean especially when there is a deep emotion that she feels for him. When she goes to Kir to apologize to him, an arrangement forms between them. Starts at first professional but turns into something deeper and stronger than she expected. But when her life is put in danger, there is a villain who wants it out for Cassie and her newfound family...but it will take trust, openness and her own smarts to defeat their enemy and embrace her new happy ever after....
Hers To Tame is an incredible story and I didn't think anything could top book one, but somehow Rhenna Morgan has achieved the impossible and made me fall more in love with Hers To Tame than His to Defend and I honestly didn't think that would happen. But alas, it has and I am more than thrilled with that outcome. Even if mafia styled romance isn't your jam....this is a series I couldn't recommend enough to any romance reader. Both of these characters have painful pasts in connection with their immediate family. There is a deep understanding between them in this aspect and the lengths they have both gone to to forge a new life for themselves.
The romance is pure deliciousness, the intimacy that builds between Kir and Cassie is so riveting and touching. Seeing them form their bond and what they overcome together is beautiful. I honestly couldn't get enough of these two and their romance. It definitely has all the happy moments you look forward to in a romance, but at the core of their relationship, it has such vibrancy and core strength that only vibrates throughout the whole story and outreaches to the reader in such a heartfelt way.
She liked being with him. Had always felt a little more alive in his presence. More centered and aware. She'd marveled at the sensation even from the beginning. How easy everything from conversation to chemistry flowed with him. How even the simplest experience felt richer and more vibrant with him in the equation.
Another plus side to this story was seeing old characters come involved in the story and it was such fun to see all the connections that this author placed in the story that really fit just right in all the right ways. Seeing these supporting characters really brought the right "cream on top" feel to the story and the way they just open their arms to Cassie was delightful.
Overall I found Hers To Tame to be a tantalizing romance that delivers in plot, unique character development and a romance to wrap yourself in like a warm blanket on a cold winters night.....A JEWEL OF WARMTH AND SENSUALITY
Gentleman alert! That's right, our hero is one of those rare gentleman's that we love and adore! He opens the door for women. He walks her to her door. He picks her up from her house and drives her to their destination. He takes care of her car for her. Why can't we get more heroes like Kir??? We NEED more men like him.
To say the least, I loved this book, and I could say it is all due to Kir, but we actually have a really admirable heroine as well. I love that she is the perfect woman for a man like him. He deserved to have someone who will appreciate who he is. There were a few times she questioned Kir's need to take care of her. Once you hear his response to these questions, you will fall even harder. This was an all around fantastic couple to read about.
Well done, Rhenna Morgan. Well done.
I loved reading this latest installment of Rhenna Morgan's NOLA Knights series. Cassie McClintock is the reporter investigating the series of events from the end of the first book, His to Defend (while pivotal to this story line, Hers to Tame can be read as a standalone.) Her investigation puts her back into the path of Kir Vasilek and she realizes he is still very much interested. Kit, for all his toughness from being raised in the Russian mob is so very attentive, and devoted to Cassie's every need. Every girl's dream of the perfect alpha. Despite Cassie always feeling like the misfit in her family, she sees the beauty that can be a family you choose for yourself and decides it can be hers as well. I am looking forward to the next installment of this series
**A huge thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin publishing for an advanced copy of this book all thoughts and opinions are my own**
3.5 stars
I really liked this one!! It gave me major swoon blushing vibes in the first half! Seriously the level of commitment and protectiveness and sexiness was so very cute and melted my heart with soft flames. The second half got a bit too overprotective for me... I also thought the idea of marriage was a bit rushed, however that more of a matter of opinion.
Overall this book is perfect for lovers of Mafia romance, alpha males, smart women, and cute witty friendships!!
I loved the second installment in this series. Cassie apologizes for ghosting on Kir after he helped her out. Kir is just as awesome as his boss. He was a little old fashioned and a whole lotta sexy. Together they were hot and an amazing team. Loved seeing all the peeps from the Haven Brotherhood. Great epilogue and bonus chapter (boy is Roman gonna have his hands full with her).
It’s no secret I love Rhenna Morgan’s heroes and Kir is another one I can chalk on the board of favorites! He’s quiet, but has an intensity that pulls you in from the moment he walks on the page. His fierce loyalty to family is admirable and his feelings towards Cassie range from tender and sweet to deliciously naughty.
Cassie was just as lovable. She may struggle with balancing being independent and accepting help, but her intelligence stands out with a keen eye for detail and the number of questions she asks. She also doesn’t jump in blindly with Kir. She asked genuine questions and got honest answers, providing great insight in to what made these two tick.
And let’s not forget Cassie’s Aunt Frieda! Gracious, that woman fits right up there with Ninette and Sylvie (Men of Haven series) level of love and craziness!! Seriously, if anyone has these types of people in their family, I envy you the support and hilarity that comes with! They make me want to give squishy hugs to fictional characters!
Overall, the storyline was solid and I enjoyed the descriptions of Nola. And while the puzzling crime Cassie and Kir were working on kept me intrigued, the romance was the shining thread and really hit the spot!
I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley/Harlequin-Carina Press and this is my honest review.
AHHH!! I am obsessed with the NOLA Knights series. I loved Sergei and Evette in the first book and was so excited to read Kir's story. His connection with Cassie was absolutely AMAZING!! This story was so damn sexy and real. I loved the banter between them and how hot and fiery their attraction was!!
This book was absolutely fantastic! Cassie was so refreshingly honest and true. She was such a breath of fresh air. I loved how she was Kir's soft spot. It highlighted how important she was to him and the pivotal role she played in his life. Kir, likewise, was alpha and strong and so sexy. I loved him with Cassie and how they were a perfect match for one another! What an amazing story! I can not wait for Roman's story! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula
A page-turner you don't want to miss! There's something about those Russian mafia men and Rhenna Morgan knows JUST how to balance the protector and possessive alpha in her heroes. Kir and Cassie burn up the pages with sizzling sexual tension and steamy intimacy.
Once more, we're given a dangerous backdrop in the gritty underworld of New Orleans. But make no mistake, the center of this story is the palpable love story between Kir and Cassie. Another fantastic addition to the NOLA Knights series. Can't WAIT for book three!
I didn’t love this as much as the first one, but it’s still really good. I probably enjoyed it more than most just because I love Russian mafia.
“My heart is hard and unskilled in love, but it is yours.”
Kir Vasilek (36, Bratva) hooked up with a beautiful reporter right around the time a rival mob boss went missing (in the last book). He was all in, until she ghosted him. He tried to reach out, but after her continuous rejections, he moved on.
Cassie McClintock (25, reporter, artist) regretted ending things with the hot Russian, but she was too afraid that associating with a rumored mobster would jeopardize her career.
After running into each other again, he asks for her help. It takes two seconds for him to decide he wants her permanently. Naturally, he just declares how things will be, and then they are.
“It’s not about fair, Milaya. Where I come from a man with any semblance of honor will always look after the woman he is with.”
There’s some extremely mild drama, lots of seduction, and a HFN.
He couldn’t help himself anymore. Didn’t want to. He’d kept himself in check and lied to himself and her long enough. Their connection was electric. Powerful as only something this natural could be..... an intrinsic connectedness that both rattled and awakened him.
SEX: Here’s what pissed me off. These two were together in the past and we missed ALL of it. That’s a cardinal sin in my book and it’s hard for me to get past. The first time a couple is together is the most important one to me. The thing that nearly makes up for it is the fact that neither of them are with anyone else while they're apart. Their first time after reconciling is at 49% – and no condoms!!! Yay! The man also gives really good oral.
LIKES: Just like that last book, the FMC doesn’t make stupid decisions. She might put up a little resistance to some things but in the end, she comes to a logical conclusion and agrees.
MYSTERY: The problem with “who done it” books is you can’t make the person too obvious, but you have to at least do enough to make them a suspect. I don’t think she accomplished that in this book. Then, the big event happens, and we miss the entire thing.
OTHERS: This was filled with a lot of talk about characters from other books, and not only did I not want it, but I didn’t care.
AUDIO: Just like the first one, the audio is what really sold this book. John Lane’s deep, seductive, growling voice is FUCKING HOT!!!! Like breaking out your vibrator level hot!!!
I still recommend it, even if it’s just to enjoy the audio.
Love this series! Love this author. If you are a romance lover with some suspense thrown in you'll love pretty much everything she writes.
I find the guys are always hot (in more ways than one) , the women sassy and the plots are fantastic.
Kir and Cassie's story was especially a favorite with brilliant word play. When the reporter meets the man rumored to be working for the mafiya what will she do? When her career is at stake will she claim him or deny him?
Love Aunt Frieda! Here's to hoping she gets her own story one day. Talk about sassy.
Truly I didn't want to put this book down. I love these characters. Get lost in this book like I did you won't be sorry.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
NOLA Knights: Hers to Tame
Haven Brotherhood Spin-off 2
von Rhenna Morgan
Plaisir d'Amour Verlag
„NOLA Knights - New Orleans, Louisiana: Ungezügeltes russisches Heißblut und dunkle Vergangenheit. Wenn diese rauen Männer der Bratva eine bestimmte Frau als ihr Ziel auserkoren haben, setzen sie alles daran, dass sie ihnen gehört.
Als "avtoritet" des mächtigsten Verbrechersyndikats in New Orleans dient alles, was Kir Vasilek sagt und tut einem bestimmten Zweck. Niemals verliert er seine Coolness, denn das Leben seiner Brüder - seiner Familie - hängt davon ab. Aber dann spaziert Cassie McClintock zurück in sein Leben, und es ist so gut wie unmöglich, cool zu bleiben. Cassie war diejenige, die entkommen ist - und Kir ist bereit, all seine eigenen Regeln zu brechen, um zu verhindern, dass dies noch einmal passiert.
Es ist eine Sache, über die russische Mafia zu berichten; doch es ist etwas ganz anderes, mit einem von ihnen zu schlafen, besonders mit einem, der so gefährlich und sündhaft sexy ist wie Kir Vasilek. Obwohl die Informationen, die er Cassie einst zur Verfügung stellte, ihre Karriere beflügelten - und die Erinnerung an seine Berührungen sie nachts immer noch wach hält -, weiß Cassie viel zu viel über Kirs Welt.
Aber als Kir sie bittet, einen grausamen Mord zu untersuchen, kann Cassie nicht widerstehen – weder der Mordermittlung, noch der Leidenschaft, die sie direkt in Kirs Arme zurückzieht ... und in sein Herz.
Kir zu zähmen - und dabei zu helfen, die Familie zu retten, wie sie sich selbst nennt - ist nicht die Story, die sie ursprünglich schreiben wollte. Aber nun ist Cassie fest dazu entschlossen, dass diese Story ein Happy End bekommt.
Teil 2 des Haven Brotherhood-Spin-offs der Erfolgsautorin Rhenna Morgan.“
Ich bedanke mich bei Netgalley und dem Plaisir d'Amour Verlag für das kostenlose Rezensionsexemplar des Buches. Ich gebe hier meine unabhängige und unbezahlte Meinung zu dem Buch ab.
Ich habe schon einige Bücher dieser Autorin gelesen. Allerdings aus einer anderen Serie als dieser. Da es sich bei diesem Buch um ein Spin-off handelt kann man es sicher auch losgelöst von der eigentlichen Serie lesen, so wie ich. Aber ich denke es wäre ein Gewinn die gesamte Serie zu lesen.
In diesem Buch hier gibt es viele bissige Dialoge und einen strengen Ehrenkodex, aber man kann auch lesen wie eine Familie sein sollte, ob sie nun blutsverwandt ist oder sich selbst gesucht wurde. Wobei ich letzteres aus eigener Erfahrung sehr gut nachvollziehen kann, nicht immer ist Blut dicker als Wasser.
Was ich persönlich als sehr ansprechend empfinde, ist die Vielzahl als Charakteren mit denen wir es zu tun bekommen. Da jeder einzelne von ihnen einzigartig ist und so verschieden, so dass man auch immer nachvollziehen kann über wen man gerade liest oder mit wem man es zu tun hat.
Die Charaktere sind sehr komplex und haben Seele und Tiefgang. Außerdem ist mir sehr positiv aufgefallen, dass die beiden Protas sich nicht Hals über Kopf in ihre Beziehung stürzen, sie haben Hintergründe und diese hinterfragen sie auch selbstständig. Das bedeutet, dass man Personen kennenlernt, die am Leben gewachsen sind und daraus gelernt haben, dass niemand ohne Ballast ist und man immer auch schwarz und weiß in jeder Person finden kann. Wichtig ist nur die Graustufen zu erkennen und ob man damit umgehen kann. Außerdem ist hier auch noch so eine kleine Second Chance Geschichte eingebaut. Auch wenn der Zeitrahmen zwischen den Ereignissen nicht so groß ist, scheint es dennoch zu lange wesen zu sein, zumindest für Kir. Cassie hat ihre erste Begegnung nie vergessen, läßt sich jedoch ziemlich von den Gerüchten beeinflussen und tut sich schwer damit, Kir eine Chance zur Erklärung zu geben.
Es ist sehr beeindruckend mitzuerleben, wie sich die Geschichte zwischen den beiden zu entwickeln beginnt. Sie kämpfen gegen eigene und äußere Widerstände an, wobei dies immer wieder durch die verschiedensten Situationen und Reaktionen für den Leser sehr interessant beschrieben wird. Die Autorin erzählt dies mit den verschiedensten Emotionen von lustig bis überraschend und hin zu tiefgründig.
Gewürzt wird dies alles noch mit sinnlichen und offenen Sequenzen zwischen den beiden.
Wer es actionreich und riskant mag, wird auch nicht enttäuscht werden, denn wir bewegen uns immerhin in einem russischen Syndikat. Selbst Kir hat seine Probleme mit Sergei und Roman.
Wir lesen über Tragödien, kulturelle Unterschiede und große Erwartungen an das Leben selbst und sich.
Irgendwie durchlebt man ein einziges Rätsel in dieser Geschichte, von dem auch Cassie selbst ein Teil ist. Man beginnt beim Lesen automatisch eine Lösung finden zu wollen, verstrickt sich in Ideen und Möglichkeiten und findet dennoch nicht so schnell eine Antwort. Was für mich ein großes Plus dieser Geschichte darstellt, denn nichts hasse ich mehr als Vorhersehbarkeit.
Hier haben wir also eine solide Story von einer starken Autorin, welche es schafft das sich Handlungen auf ihre Charaktere auswirken und sie zu Aktionen und Reaktionen bewegen.
Ich kann dieses Buch wirklich sehr empfehlen, denn ich habe es von der ersten Seite an geliebt und verschlungen.
***5 ‘You And I Will Be’ Stars***
This baby was all kinds of fun! It was all kinds of sweet and smexy and filled with a lot of heart, as well as nice little bit of suspense thrown into the mix that kept things interesting. Also, it was filled with characters that I’ve come to love and some newbies that I want to spend lots more time with!
I ADORED Cassie and Kir. Cassie is hard working, honest and all kinds of sweet and sassy. I loved the way her mind worked and how, even in her more vulnerable moments, how forthright she was. Kir is all kinds of Alpha AF, but not in an asshat way, more in a bulldozer kind of way. He just does what he feels is the right thing to do and simply expects to get it done, but beneath the bulldozer is a man who cares deeply for those he calls his own, which is why he rarely takes no for answer.
Their journey to their HEA was all kinds of fun. The angst was low, the sweet and smexy was on point and I simply loved how they communicated with each other. There were some things that they couldn’t (wouldn’t) say right away, but in general, they acted like the adults they were and didn’t make things harder than they needed to be. The bantering was on point and the chemistry was HAWT! While there weren’t any major roadblocks, there were things that they both needed to figure out as individuals and a couple and I just really liked how everything turned out for them.
This was a great addition to the series all around. There is a bit of suspense woven into the mix that worked out in a surprising way for me, but made total sense. And then there are the supporting cast of characters. I loved catching up with Sergei, Evette, Emerson, Dorothy and Olga, as well as getting a bit of time with the Haven crew here and there. As for newbies to the story, Frieda and Bonnie were awesome! But Roman is still my fav, though there were a couple of new ones that peaked my interest, but the man is still numero uno and I cannot wait to get my hands on his book (especially since I’m pretty sure who the woman who will bring him to his knees is!)
3,5 Sterne - Rhenna Morgans Geschichten sind wirklich Wohlfühlgeschichten, ich liebe es, wie sie ihre Protagonisten so zügig miteinander in Kontakt bringt und auch wenn es natürlich nicht gerade realistisch ist, entlockt es mir romantisches Seufzen, wie zielstrebig Morgans männlichen Figuren sich für ihre Frauen einsetzen. Aber diese Geschichte hätte darüber hinaus so viel Potenzial gehabt, auch einen Suspense-Aspekt einzubringen, schließlich ist in der Synopse die Rede von einer Mordermittlung. Die rückt leider von Anfang weit in den Hintergrund, statt sie sinnvoll mit der Annäherung der Figuren zu verbinden. Es ist schade, dass die Autorin sich hier entschieden hat, immer nur zusammenfassend zu erzählen, wie sich der Fall entwickelt (oder auch nicht), statt es wirklich zu zeigen und die Figuren ernsthaft darin zu verwickeln.
Kir has the face of an angel but as the right hand of the Vor, he sometimes has to channel his inner demon. So his every word, every move every action is deliberate, precise. Nothing he does is without reason or purpose so pursuing Cassie McClintock defies all reason. She may be looking to give her career a much-needed boost. But once he realizes that his heart belongs to her, he begins to do everything within his power to make her path smoother. But once his true identity and her connection to him is leaked to her boss, Cassie finds herself weighing her feelings and her career. to choose one means to lose the other. And she's not convinced that losing Kir is a good bargain
*I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
This is my first Rhenna Morgan book that I've picked up but the story sounded like a dangerous story with a great romance in it, so I was eager to give it a try. I loved how the characters were crafted - and not just the main characters - they were given depth, vulnerablity and unique personalities that suited them and their stories well.
The story itself moved along at a good pace, even if there were a few spots where you hoped for a little more information and the romance between Cassie and Vir was expertly crafted. While this one can be read as a standalone, I'm eager to go back and pick up the first once since I'm sure there are things that further connect the two when both are read.
Morgan's writing style was easy to read and fun. I loved Aunt Frieda especially as her attitude and sass was perfectly portrayed in the story while also not stealing the limelight from Cassie and Vir. This was a great story with a mystery that kept you wondering for quite a while and I definitely recommend it.
Hers to Tame is the follow up to His to Defend. I have read both and this works fairly well as a stand alone. I believe this is also an off-shoot of another series by this author because several side characters are mentioned in it, but I never felt lost. If you are a fan of mafia romances, then I think you will like this series. They are in the Russian mafia, but more of a "mafia light".
I liked Kir and Cassie together. It's always fun to watch an alpha male fall really hard for a strong female. Cassie was his perfect match. Their chemistry was off the charts. Another favorite thing in romance is when two people who have not grown up with love or family closeness, find it in each other. The mystery in this one was one that kept me reading. I didn't figure it out. I highly recommend this one as well as the first book. I look forward to reading the next book when it comes out.
~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~
4.5*s of absolute hotness !
This is the second book in the series - and I highly recommend that you start with His to Defend, which tells Sergei and Evette's story, and is also absolutely enchanting, and they are important in this book too.
Cassie is by choice a photographer, but earns her living as a tv reporter. She needs her next big story to retain her prime tv slot, and thinks that maybe reconnecting with Kir, a source from her past, will help. But chance gives her the opportunity to get close to him again, and all thoughts of a story fall by the wayside as they clearly have unresolved chemistry.
Kir is a very loyal member of Sergei's family here in the USA. He has seen how the love that his hardened boss has found has changed everything, but is not expecting to fall ... until he decides to make a move on Cassie, who has not left his thoughts. They go fast and he has no doubts that she is the one, even though he has to reconcile himself with his past, and how he will be in the future.
I loved catching up with this group of fabulous people and of course the Haven Team (if you have not read them, then you are in for another treat!!). It is so refreshing to have a story where the man is so certain and consistent and has to be what every woman would wish for - and Cassie does get with the plan quite quickly. As they work together to resolve the mystery of his hacker's murder, we see just what a great fit they really are with each other.
My advice, go and buy a copy, and enjoy a wonderful read.
Q: How do you feel about mafia romances?
For the most part I’m a rule follower who hates, absolutely hates, getting “into trouble.” Sometimes I get anxious about things that I haven’t even done because I worry someone will think that I have. Case in point: I’ve been told so many times that I look young for my age that I still get nervous showing my ID to people when I buy alcohol and I am now 35 YEARS OLD. WITH LINES ON MY FACE THAT DEFINITELY INDICATE THAT I AM NOT USING A FAKE ID.
But all of that is to say that I still really enjoyed Hers to Tame by new-to-me author Rhenna Morgan. It’s sexy as heck with an independent heroine and an old-fashioned kind of hero who also happens to be an avtoritet, a mafiya enforcer of sorts.
Kir Vasilek was reporter Cassie McClintock’s source on a previous groundbreaking story about a rival mob boss. He was also briefly her lover—until she discovered that he was suspected of working for a mafiya family.
Cassie doesn’t feel great about how she ghosted Kir so she apologizes for her actions at the beginning of this book. That should be the end of that. Only, one of Kir’s men has been murdered and all signs indicate that it’s a revenge killing related to the aforementioned rival mob boss. Kir realizes that Cassie is the best starting point for information related to his family-member’s murder, and that’s just great because he hasn’t gotten over her.
The dynamics between Cassie and Kir are combustible. They’re also complicated in a way that I mostly savored but that occasionally grated. Kir’s protective and chivalrous to the max, demanding and possessive. While he’s loving and obviously delights in taking care of Cassie, he also makes highhanded decisions about their relationship and Cassie’s safety (and even protection during an admittedly overall hot sexual interlude) and just assumes that she’ll go along for the ride. (This is sometimes frustrating…at least to me.)
There are times when Cassie’s independence makes me cheer, especially when she raises some hard questions about Kir and his role in his family. She doesn’t just fall into the relationship blindly and their conversations—with her wanting to take responsibility for her own beliefs and decisions and him speaking so deliberately and truthfully—won me over despite my initial reservations about their ultimate compatibility.
I'm also cheering for the author because Rhenna Morgan doesn’t shy away from tackling the real-world implications of a reporter who gets too close to a suspected mafiya man. Her willingness to go there make me appreciate this sizzling and bold romance even more.
Still, Cassie’s naivete and unwillingness to challenge Kir’s directives and vague statements at times make me want to shake my head....although I suppose that it's probably best for their present and future happiness if Cassie doesn’t push or question too much, especially when it looks like a murder-retaliation is on the table.
Mafia romances will never be my favorite but Rhenna Morgan does it really well with Hers to Tame. There’s lots of heat and a compelling, emotional story that grabs me by the heart, but this romance also wrestles with some of the deeper issues that seem inherent to a relationship like Cassie and Kir’s. It turns out that you can sign me up for that.
4⭐️
You can get your copy of Hers to Tame on March 16th. I received a complimentary ARC of this book from Netgalley but all opinions provided are my own.
Hers to Tame by Rhenna Morgan
NOLA Knights #2
Smiling as I think about this book. Kir was a hunk of a guy and his care and tenderness with Cassie, the woman that was to be “his” was heart warming. Cassie was an intelligent reporter who met Kir months before but stayed away when she heard rumors he was Russian Mafiya. The connection was too strong to keep them apart forever, though. I love this author’s books and loved this one, too!
What I liked:
* Cassie: focused on her work, a capable reporter but really wished she could be a photographer instead.
* Kir: my oh my...what a guy! Dapper dresser, lethal but loving. He is a man you would want at your side through thick and thin.
* The “family” - such a loving group and there for one another
* Frieda: a better mother figure to Cassie than her own mother
* Getting to see the group from the Haven series
* The writing, story and series – love these books!
* Knowing that Bonnie’s story is next and looking forward to reading it soon
What I didn’t like:
* The baddie – deserved to be caught and punished
* Knowing that I will have to wait till the next book is finished
Did I like this book? Definitely
Would I read more of this series? Without a doubt
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin-Carina Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
HERS TO TAME by Rhenna Morgan is book Two in the NOLA Knights Series. This is the story of Kir Vasilek and Cassie McClintock. I have read the previous book (loved it!) so that did add to my enjoyment of this one, but I did feel you could make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Cassie is a investigative reporter who we meet in the first book where she had gather information for her news stories. But she ended up slipping away from Kir. Now she is back doing more investigations for stories and this time he is letting her get away. Of course there is danger that adds to the page turning read. Loved this book, the authors writing and this series. I hope to read more soon from this author.
