Rhys turned to writing children’s books under her married name, Janet Quin-Harkin. Her first picture book was an immediate success and won several awards. More picture books followed, then her agent asked her to write a book for young adults. This was a turning point in Rhys’s career. Her first young adult novel was an instant hit. By her third she was selling half a million copies. Many more popular YA novels followed until Rhys decided she had said all she wanted to say about teenage love and angst, and she turned her real love—mysteries.
Omg, I remember finding four books from these series at a Barnes & Noble during a trip to Miami when I was about 13. I was obsessed with them, read them multiple times. I wanted to read the whole series but I never found any of these books again when I traveled but now they’re all on kindle unlimited. What a trip down memory lane! This was surprisingly well written, especially compared to other series of its time such as Sweet Valley High or The Babysitter’s Club. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could, but will give it 4 for the nostalgia factor.
