4 Stars!

Much better than the first book.

I had some issues with the first book and it ended up not being my kind of read and I painfully gave it a low review.

Since the first book wasn't great for me I had planned on passing on this one. But then I felt guilty because I was given ARC's for both books and was promised one for the third. I even wrote the people who gave me the ARC stating I wouldn't be reviewing this one because I didn't think this author's writing was my jam. Well.... obviously by my rating you can see I was wrong in thinking that. It really goes to show you that you can't dismiss an author on one book. I mean there are many books that I haven't completely enjoyed that have been written by favorite authors of mine. So shame on me for being so dismissive.

I really liked both characters and I think the connection I felt between these two men is what was missing for me in the first book. These guys had chemistry in and out of the sheets. Kai and Gannin had great banter and seemed to just mesh so well with each other. Kai was light and funny where Gannin was more serious and all about following the rules. But he's breaking some of them to have and protect Kai.

The writing flowed so much better in this book. The story felt more put together and completed. I really enjoyed it.

I was given an ARC by A Novel Take PR in exchange for an honest review.

Happy reading dolls! xx

This is the second book in the Yours To Protect series and although it can be read as a standalone,I would recommend reading The Artist's Boxer first. Not only because it's an incredible book, but also because it's where Gannin and Kai are introduced.

A crazy mobster wants James Kaito dead and Marshal Gannin West comes to the rescue. They have to spend a lot of time together trying to keep Kai alive and what do you think could happen when you put a sassy, irreverent PI in close quarters with a stern, rules abiding law enforcer? The answer is: so much FUN !! I never stopped snickering while they snapped at each other,Kai doing his worst to rile up Gannin and vice versa, Gannin struggling to contain the irruent PI.

And while they try to elude danger,Kai and Gannin discover how perfect they are for each other. The fact that they're complete opposites in many ways is actually why they balance one another, the reason why the funny, smart mouthed, colorful Kai is the ideal match for the serious, strict Gannin.

This book is the awesome combination of fast paced action, fun and romance. A plot full of twists  and turns, lots of surprises, charming characters, sweetness and hotness in perfect dosage.

I was really looking forward to reading The Marshal's PI. I knew it would be great and it didn't disappoint. I loved it!

"The Marshal's PI" is the second volume of "Yours to Protect" series by Este Holland. The story that the author tells us in this part is undoubtedly interesting and, what is important, in my opinion can be read as standalone. However, it is worth mentioning that it is related to the previous volume, although the reader doesn't need to know what happened in the first installment to fully enjoy reading "The Marshal's PI". What's more, in this book we have a pretty good story that combines fast-paced action and romance, so the readers get exactly what they are hoping for when they reach for this novel. Well, I can say with a clear conscience that reading "The Marshal's PI" we are fully satisfied with what we get and we are undoubtedly interested in continuing our adventure with "Yours to Protect", as soon as the author writes and publishes the next installments of this series. I can't wait!

It's undoubtedly also worth noting that "The Marshal's PI" is a book that can really surprise us at times. There are lots of reasons why it happens, and they all result from the events that take place in this volume. In short, there are many action twists that are simply quite hard for us to guess beforehand, which makes them so surprising. The more so because they appear just when we think that we already know the characters quite well, and the thing is that certain situations related to them simply don't fit their image, our impression of them. However, I would like to point out that we can consider it an advantage of the novel and the characters' creation as they seem more real and believable, precisely because they are to some extent unpredictable. Let me try to explain it to you. When we deal with an ideal person – for example, Gannin – it is unlikely that they will make some stupid mistake. And yet, in this book that's exactly what happens, and what's more, the mistake has its consequences. I hope you understand more or less what I mean, as I really try to avoid spoilers.

Since I've mentioned the characters, I would like to write more about them in this paragraph. In "The Marshal's PI" I really like the fact that the creation of the main characters somehow combines the features that don't necessarily correspond to the patterns that we expect. In other words, we have here a tough and sweet looking guy who's not as cute as we may think, and a heroic, chivalrous and tough guy who, in fact, is a softie and cutie. These combinations really make us weak, and when the paths of these two cross, we are head over heels in love. In this novel, we have two completely different guys who annoy each other and seem to be a terrible match, but in reality they are made for each other.

The big advantage of "The Marshal's PI" is also the fact that in this novel we have some chapters written from the side characters' point of view. In these cases, the action is somewhat related to our main protagonists, but the events of these chapters focus mostly on the side characters' everyday life and sexual interests in other people. Yes, I really love it, because it allowed my imagination to create various fanfiction scenarios for the said side characters. At the same time, they definitely became closer to me and I simply fell in love with them faster and deeper. That's why I really want to read the next volumes of "Yours to Protect", as I wish to once again meet the characters I like so much.

To sum up, "The Marshal's PI" is a really enjoyable and interesting novel that quickly engrosses the reader. It is a story full of action and suspense, which we read with great pleasure and want to read once again. I recommend it!

„The Marshal's PI” jest drugim tomem serii „Yours to Protect” autorstwa Este Holland.

Podsumowując, „The Marshal's PI” to naprawdę przyjemna i interesująca lektura, która szybko wciąga czytelnika. To pełna akcji i napięcia historia, którą czytamy z rozkoszą i do której chcemy jeszcze powrócić. Polecam!

Holy moly. Talk about falling down a rabbit hole! I got an ARC of The Agent's Thief not really realizing that it was a spin off from this series. As I open that book, it says there is a short before that book starts. I get a few pages in and I realize that Kai is a familiar character and was in this series that came first. Well, I needed to get started on this series before I continued with that book! Book 1 of Yours to Protect series wasn't in KU so I ended up starting with this book, but for me I was fine with that. I don't feel like I really missed much because everything I needed for Kai and Gannin was all here in this book. Of course, then this book starts with "check out the short story of these guys before we get here". Geez. Lots of book hopping between prequel shorts and actual stories, but I am sooooooo glad I fell down this rabbit hole of awesomeness.

I absolutely loved Kai and Gannin. Total opposites overall, but a perfect balance for the other. This story had great chemistry, interesting story line, and no real relationship angst (YAY!). The guys get put through the wringer, but it all worked out perfectly. I really enjoyed the writing and the story. I appear to be starting a binge of this series to get ready for the next one, because I am totally interested in the next books in this story line.

I think I have a new book to add to my favorite shelf. With drama, action, sweet confessions, and a whole lot of steam to drool over, this is easily one of my favorite reads of the year. I was immediately drawn into the story and was glad I chose to start the book after my kids were in bed because I didn't stop reading until it I got to the end. There was something so captivating about Kai and Gannin and the story itself was believable. Add in a fantastic cast that's absolutely going to bring me back for more and I'm sold.

Kai is quirky, amusing, brash, and exactly what Gannin needs in his life to find his mellow. I liked that Kai knows himself, makes no excuses, and still thinks before he acts most of the time. There are some characters that think they know more than they do and unwittingly put themselves and many others in more danger than without their "assistance" and Kai wasn't like that. Yes, he wanted to have more control over what he did, but when push came to shove, he let others take the lead. What really made him memorable to me was his personality and the way he was with Gannin. He wasn't in so much denial to everyone and himself about his feelings, he merely had no experience with deeper connections and wasn't completely convinced that he was diving headlong into love.

And with Gannin there to catch him, there was nowhere safer to land. Gannin is a big, hard man who is focused beyond most people's capability. His honesty and determination rule his life and there's no other way I would want him to be. He's made of loyalty and passion, he just hasn't yet had a focus outside his job that earned all of him. While his attraction to the crazy man-child bothered him at first, it didn't take long to become something he didn't want to be without. The straightforward way he treated Kai and his feelings toward him totally won me over. He was clear, direct, and so surprisingly soft that I pretty much melted.

The steam was another case of melting, for sure. Their chemistry was beyond palpable and I loved that it didn't take the center stage for the whole book, that there were different facets to their relationship that balanced out their passion. It also didn't dominate the story's overall plot. We got a whole lot of non-sexual action too so I felt the story was extremely well balanced. There was a slightly more disturbing part and I found that believable and that it added depth to the story where so many other novels produce the nick-of-time saves when we all know that's so unlike reality.

I've found that I'm at a loss when trying to think about the story's negative aspects and I'm supremely thrilled that I'm having this problem. I suppose I could sing its praises again, but I'm sure you're tired of reading my thoughts at this point, so we'll just leave it at, "This book was awesome and I immensely enjoyed reading it."

3.5 out of 5 stars.

First time reader of this author and I enjoyed the book but would reccomend reading the first book in the series before reading this one.

Although this book can be read as a stand alone there were situations and already established characters in the book that muddled the story, as well as the fact that the two MCs had backstory that appeared in the first book.

I did find some of the scene transitions a little jumbled and there was a lot of awkward speeding forward of the plot just to get to the next bit so the story felt rushed in places. Other than that I really liked the characters and the plot line.

This is the 2nd book in the series and it resolves around PI James Kairo - Kai to his friends - and US Marshall Gannin West. West gets word from a mysterious agency that Kai is in trouble, having met him in the first book apparently. He goes haring off to Vegas to protect the man from this vague threat he's been told about and finds the PI has a hit out on him by a Vegas mob boss.

There's reference to Kai's twin brother, a hotshot in Homeland, who had been into drugs as a kid, got clean, and had an apparent relapse, a brother he hasn't seen or talked to in over a decade. There are photographs and they are used to blackmail Kai into being a messenger boy for mob, but it appears his usefulness is up.

Gannin arrives in the nick of time to help and the two men have to find a way to survive the hitman coming after Kai while dealing with Kai's reappearing brother, his family issues and a dleazy lawyer wanting to get into Kai's pants, all while falling for each other.

All-in-all an enjoyable read with an easy to follow plot, a little action, a little romance, and a happily ever after for the mcs.

Great second book in the series.

Absolutely loved this, I enjoyed the first book, where Gannon and Kai were introduced, but this one was even better.

Gannon and Kai's story was just perfect. I loved every single moment of reading it. It was surprisongly sweet. It was romantic. It was funny. It was suspense filled.

Kai's just one of those characters that you can't help but love. He's spontaneous, jumps without looking and very vulnerable. He's been abandoned by all of the people who should have kept him close and loved him. Gannon is a US Marshall...who's honourable and noble, and perfect for Kai.

What follows is an entertaining mystery, with Gannon trying to keep Kai safe, whilst falling on love with him at the same time. The story is well written, both MCs are very likeable, and I was rooting for them from the word go. Ms Holland has also included a positive smorgasbord of secondary characters, whose stories I hope to read in future books.

To be honest I pretty well loved everything about this book. The mystery was entertaining, BUT above all else, I truly loved the characters of Gannon and Kai. They were both so sweet in their feelings and worries, and the fact that initially neither one wanted to jump the gun about where their relationship was going.

I liked the way that Este Holland developed said relationship. There's a lot of honesty between the two guys, even when it was uncomfortable and that made their relationship so much more believable.

I highly recommend this story, and the first book, (The Artist's Boxer), in the series. You absolutely can read them separately, but they are both really excellent and entertaining books. I think if you read one, you will definitely want to read the other.

This is a new to me author, so I had no expectations.

I loved this book.

*possible spoilers*

My singular complaint is sometimes the dialogue was hard to follow in regards to who was speaking. Otherwise, I enjoyed just about everything else. From the first page, I was sucked right in. The plot is a touch cheesy, but it’s written well and character/dialogue driven (which I prefer). Gannon and Kai’s banter had me laughing out loud throughout the story. They are opposites in so many ways, but they just work together and definitely have some hot chemistry. There were quite a few side characters that were also written well and leave you wanting to know more about them.

An unexpected part of the book that I ended up liking - there are a few different point of views peppered into the story. It’s only a few parts in the book, but it kind of threw me off at first. I do think it was done well and there’s lots of set up for future books in this series!

This is a reread for me, for sure. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s so good that I’m eager to read the first book and the rest of the series. I also look forward to going through this author’s backlist.

This is book 2 in the Yours to Protect series, but can be read as a stand-alone. I definitely enjoyed this book and it was a quick, easy read by a new to me author. Gannin West is a US Marshal called upon to protect a PI in Vegas, James Kairo (Kai), who he has had past run-ins with before. And he is not too thrilled with the prospect of babysitting the bratty PI, but something definitely changes between the two men when they are forced to be in close proximity of each other for an undetermined amount of time. Can the handsome, but gruff marshal protect his lonely heart, while continuing to protect the sassy, multi-color haired PI from the threat to his life? Can the PI trust, just this once, that good things and people are meant to happen for him? Or will outside forces take their happiness away before it even has a chance to blossom? Definitely don’t count the strength of either man out when the very thing they long for is threatened. This book had suspense, good supporting characters, and just enough MM heat to make me not want to put the book down once I started. I can’t wait to read the next in the series. Definitely check it out.

Smoking hot and a really great mafia book
I read the first book of this series and couldn't put it down so I knew I had to read the next book. Both the characters are great in this, Gannin and Kai appear in the first book but its solely focused in this book. I really hope the next book is Kai's twin, Lukes story. The ending for these two MCs is a HEA but it leaves with more story to follow on and things unfinished...for now.

Includes blackmail, mafia hit men, flirty bantering, violence scenes for characters,  high drama throughout the book as the cat and mouse games start. Hot sexy scenes are gorgeous.

US Marshall Gannin was happy to have put away another criminal.  Getting a tip that a PI was in trouble he takes vacation time to go help.
James aka Kai with his blue and pink hair in investigative work..yah easy to spot.
When delivering a message from Gloom and Pruitt,  Kai gets into trouble.

The Marshal's PI is book 2 in the Yours to Protect series, which I read as a standalone.

Okay, so there are things I liked a lot about this book. Kai and Gannin were both very likable, real and flawed and while there were moments where I wondered why a US Marshal would make so many mistakes in his job, well, it worked well for the story. *shrugs* Kai and Gannin were hot together and had great chemistry. All things considered, the progression of their relationship was fairly realistic.

I've never been fond of POVs from other characters that aren't the main ones, and this wasn't the exception. I just feel it interrupts the flow of the book.

Overall, though, I enjoyed the book, it was fast-paced, action-packed and fun. Recommendable!

This is second in the Yours to Protect series and can be read as a stand-alone, but as the main characters are introduced in the first book I believe it would be best to read them in order.

The MC’s Kei and Gannin are complete opposites in every way and as such compliment each other completely making their relationship full of snark, bickering and incredibly hot and steamy.

This is a fast paced, action packed story with plenty of twists, turns and surprises. One thing that annoyed me was in the insufficient explanation from Luke Kei’s brother for the decades worth of silent treatment, hopefully we get this story in his book later. Overall most enjoyable and entertaining to read, would definitely recommend.

This is a fun and fast-paced story with great characters and I really enjoyed it. There is a lot going on and at times I found it a bit difficult to follow but the storyline is intriguing and I like the twists and turns it takes. Gannin and Kai are an unlikely couple but I love their strong connection and smoking hot chemistry. Kai is trying to do the right thing but it may cost him his life as he and Gannin struggle to stay one step ahead of the hitman that is after Kai. They need all the help they can get if they are going to survive and sometimes help comes from very unexpected places. I like the ending, the secondary characters are interesting and I look forward to reading the other books in this series.

This was a fun ride throughout the whole book.
Gannin and Kai are hilarious as they work off each other’s quirks.

I hadn’t read the first book but I can tell you that it’s not really necessary but it does help with the flow of the world. So I’m pretty sure I’m going to go back and read it.
The action throughout is well crafted and your eyes are glued as you anxiously wait to see what happens next.

My only concern about this book was the random POV’s that popped up throughout and didn’t really add much to the story overall but possibly to the series on the whole.

So if you like strong stoic rule followers who break the rules for their love, try this, Gannin and West will not disappoint you.

Great story-line with terrific characters combine to create a wonderful read! I really enjoyed the dynamics between these characters. They come from such different view points that i makes it interesting.

The connection between Gannin and Kai is awesome and you can feel them as they connect and create a combustion. They are so worth the read and you will be rooting for them to find their HEA!

This is book two of the Yours to Protect series and will be looking forward to the next book in the series.

The Marshall's PI by Este Holland is the second book in the Yours to Protect series, although it can definitely be read as a stand alone without feeling like you are missing stuff. This is a contemporary m/m romance between enemies who become lovers running from danger. You will find these pages filled with action, suspense, steam and even humor. The characters are interesting and entertaining. Definitely a fun read that will keep your attention.

I loved this book! Not having read the first one I had no problems keeping up with the story. I will certainly be running to read book one!

This book is full of action, romance, humor, snark and everything good that I want in a romance. The chemistry between Kai and Gannis is jump off the pages hot. Their connection is palpable. I was so drawn to these two guys and invested in their HEA.

Mixed in among the action and drama are moments of sweetness that showcase the connection these two men have.

I have found a new one click author, great job Este Holland!

Engaging read

This is the first book I've read by this author and I really enjoyed it. It's the second book in the series but it can be read as a stand alone. Although I will now go back and read the first book.
Kai is sweet, funny and distrustful, used to bring abandoned by those he loves. Gannin is a stickler for the rules and a workaholic. Kai is just what he needs to shake up his life
This is an engaging read with an interesting plot and plenty of side characters I'd like to see get their own stories.

I enjoyed this fun read. There is some danger and suspense, snarky comments, varying POVs, and sexy times. I loved the characters. Although this could be read as a stand alone, I feel I would have gotten more out of it if I read the preceding book in the series. Some characters from that book appear in this one, and I missed having the history of who they were and what their story was. Still, a very enjoyable read. Just my advice to read Book 1 first.

Such a great story

This was a great story, very interesting with twists and turns (some you can see coming and others you don't).

I loved Gannin and Kai. Kai was hilarious, sweet, faithful and loving. Gannin was gruff and tough, but loving and perfect for Kai.
I really loved them together.

This was a great story and it opened the door to a few other characters for future stories I can't wait to read

This is the second book in The Yours to Protect Series. I recommend reading the first book because part of Gannin and Kai’s story is in that book. An enjoyably well written book. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters likeable. The characters were developed and thought out. Gannin and Kai are the MC’s of this book. I can recommend this book as a good read. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Action, adventure, and hot romance! Gannin, a US Marshal, is sent to protect Kai, a PI, in Vegas. Gannin isn't thrilled but the more time they spend together, the closer they become and their connection and attraction are undeniable. It's fast-paced but very well written and definitely deserves a read! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

THE MARSHAL'S PI
I like both the mcs of this story. The story is action filled and there are some great banters between the PI and the Marshal. The action that leads up to them being in the same location is good. i like how the author had me turning the pages and I also had a good time reading this one. I am going to read book one in this series as well, when I get it at a later time.

Love this series!

I really appreciate a book, or a series for that matter, with some depth to the story. Both these books have that in spades. Now I do enjoy those intimate times but not to the exclusion of substance. Both these books have good character development and a story line that is intriguing. I'm hoping for more in this series. Luke's story?

This is the second book in the Yours to Protect series. It's an action story and is a great book to read. James and Gannin are on the run from the mobster. It's intense, funny, and romantic. The two main characters are perfect together and are I hated for the book to end.
