A client with a cheating wife, a warehouse of cult members, and someone with a deadly vendetta—just a day’s work for Apex Investigations. Or is it?
Bear shifter “Grizz” Locke is ex-military and ready for PI work, which if not exactly safe seems less likely to get him killed on a daily basis. The added bonus of teaming up with former lover, Brock, a jaguar shifter, is all the incentive Grizz needs.
Brock can be a grumpy kitty, but has found a home and family at Apex. And now as luck would have it, he has a chance to rekindle his romance with Grizz. They might even rebuild their mate bond, severed years ago—as long as they don't manage to get killed first.
When an enemy targets the Apex team, Brock and Locke will fight with all they have to protect their own. To enjoy life and love as fate intended, they will have to find out who wants them dead before someone at the agency pays the ultimate price.

Much like the first book, I enjoyed the mix of shifters teaming up and pairing off. I think I enjoyed the couple here a bit more, maybe because they had an underlying history and friendship that made the jump to a relationship feel natural. But I also just liked Brock and Locke more in general. The mystery is a bit random, I actually thought Brock's ex would pop up and play a current part in the story, instead of just a historical one. There's references to him doing really bad things to Brock but I don't remember it ever being said exactly what. Maybe since Lcoke already knew it all it wasn't important but I was wondering the whole time (I mean I can guess but I'd still like confirmation, but maybe I just missed it.) I anticipate a few more books to come and I'll gladly read them when they do.
Brock and Locke. I feel like I should make so many jokes about their names, but the fact is that they truly love each other and they are so perfect when they finally get together. I can't wait for the next part of the series.
I’m not liking the story, but there is something there with the misfit family and mate telepathy that makes me want to read the next one. I like how the books start with Mick and how protective he is. I liked both Locke and Brock, but it got slightly confusing with the nicknames. Why call him kit when there already is one. Nice to see Dylan and Rey still in the honeymoon stage. Reading this one I thought it was going to be something obvious, like the return of psycho fox. So when it wasn’t, it was slightly disappointing and like the first book, nothing was resolved. I’m interested to see who Mick’s mate will be. I’m hoping it is Kit, because those two are sweet together. Felt sorry for James. Will read the next one.

Rating: 4 stars I really enjoyed this book. I always like books where the MCs have an established relationship prior to the start. I much prefer it to books that rely on insta-love. My only really complaint was I wanted more details on Brock’s ex-relationship and what really happened between them. Overall a really good book and I look forward to reading more in the series.
interesting and fun.. fast paced and fun to watch these two former lovers come together and try to figure it out. it was enjoyable and action packed.. kept me curious and i enjoyed it
There wasn't as much angst from Brock as I might have expected. Griz didn't bear a grudge for Brock thinking that an evil fox was his true mate. The book didn't go into detail of what the evil fox did to Brock, except that he has a lot of physical scars and the occasional bit of stiffness, and obviously a lot of mental scars from the whole thing as well. Brock does think at one point that it took him a year to recover from the physical injuries he got, which is a long time for a shapeshifter. Also, it would be unusual for an injury to a shapeshifter to leave scars, unless the injury was very bad.
There was some kind of evil magic going on, and evil weasels who could crawl through the ducts of a building. Obviously the new building needs more security.
I liked the book all right. There are clearly more issues for Apex Investigations to look into.
This is the second book in the series and we get tge story about the jaguar Brock who works at Apex Investigations and his old flame the big bear Griz who's new to the team. They get a second chances to be mates and we're also introduced to some new bad guys. Someone evil is targeting them and is the source behind all the bad things that has happened to the pack.
Still a good series that's easy to read if you want a bit of suspense, shifters and mates.
Apex Investigations #2 brings more action. A new investigator is brought in when a job goes sideways. Further investigation brings drugs, magic and poison. But it also unites two mates that had drifted apart years before. And if Griz the bear wants to keep, Brock, his jaguar alive, he's going to need the whole Apex pack to help. Fun read. Quick packed. Talbot is building towards a climax (at least two more books in series). And I'm really enjoying the ride.
This book was action packed but also full of love, family, and pack. Brock and Locke had mated and I enjoyed the way that they could communicate to each other through their minds. There were evil weasel shifters, a cult, bad drugs and so much more. Hopefully they will get to the heart of all their troubles soon. Very enjoyable.
An enjoyable story. It was a little fast paced, which made it feel rushed and missing story details. It needs to be fleshed out a bit. A short story still needs to tell a full story, without leaving out details. But it was well written.
This a great new series with an interesting story arc, lovable characters, serious heat, and heart pounding action. Cant wait for the next. Definitely reccomend.
Brock has been badly burned physically and emotionally in the past by an ex-lover. He and Locke have a complicated history, but Brock wasn’t ready to trust again and so he pushed the Grizzly bear away. Both men have managed to come back together and been given a second change. They’ve both changed, but some things – like the sizzling chemistry between them – remain the same. Can they make it work this time around?
I really enjoyed this strongly paranormal full length story. While it’s the second in the Apex Investigations series I was pleased that it can easily be read as a stand alone story. I found both Brock and Locke to be interesting and layered characters, and while the chemistry and blossoming relationship between them was fairly smooth the trappings of plot around them – the PI agency and some of their cases – was more than enough plot, conflict and complications to keep me happily and eagerly reading away.
I adored all the characters of the PI Agency. I love it when a good story has a strong and large base of solid secondary characters, and I certainly found that the other PIs fit that bill. I am definitely anticipating more books to come in this series and feel the readers will be spoiled for choice whom among those left should be featured next.
While the paranormal world doesn’t differ too much from our own, there were enough references to difficulties between the various shifters (like alluding to the differences between “cats and dogs”) and enough magical shenanigans and world-building that I feel readers should be able to follow along at the more paranormal aspects to the world. Readers looking for something strongly sci-fi or deeply entrenched in paranormal lore mightn’t find themselves satisfied. But personally I felt there was ample magic and shifter side-plot to keep most readpers – including myself – very happy with that side of the story. There was a strong element of conducting PI investigations which I also felt slotted this book thoroughly into the Mystery sub-category, though this wasn’t a “who done it” classic style of mystery.
With excellent characters, a whole bunch of steamy sex and a varied and delightful cast of strong secondary characters I found this to be a great read and one I really enjoyed. I will be eagerly looking for the next few in this series.
Brock didn't really endear me to him in book one, but knowing there's damage and softness under all the bluster and offense helped a little to open me up for more of him in this book. I'm also not typically a fan of second-chance romances (though I can't seem to not read them) and I wasn't sure how to feel about what we learned of Brock and Grizz. All my apprehensions were pretty unfounded once I got into their story. Once they got on the same page they were both all in and I couldn't believe the amount of sweetness, sappiness, and nuzzling, and possession coming from Brock. It was fantastic!
The story, however, was less fantastic. Not by much, but seeing how it followed the same formula as the first, it was just a whole lot of action and drama packed into a short story and could have used some flow adjustment. It was still good in terms of giving me surprise after surprise and keeping me on my toes, but the antagonist wasn't clear-cut. Yes, it's part of the whole series' trajectory, but we're left with far more questions than answers. I suppose it keeps us right in the thick of things with the characters of the series, but I can't help wanting a little more resolution than we're given.
This was much more well-rounded on the relationship side of the story than Fox and Wolf. We're also drawn far deeper into the pack's dynamic and I'm even more interested in finding out what happens with everyone, especially Kit. There's a lot going for this series, in my opinion, and while it's not as clean and with a clear flow as other books and series in this genre, I can't help but want to come back for more.
First this book was ten times better than the first one! I It So much more. However there was so much I did not enjoy and felt was a little too rushed or unfinished. With that said I hope we get more answers with the next books. Please let there be more!
Character breakdown;
Griz: I liked him I thought he was going to be interesting. He turned out to be a little too carrying for my liking but he did well.
Brock: I loved the grumpy kitty side of him. Loved that he had such a mysterious side. But the man was putty in the bear's hand and it was weird as hell. I also need to know more about his past!
Favorite Quote: “Yes, he had a way bigger dose, but you got your ass kicked, so….” “I will bite you, fox.” “Promise?” Rey batted his eyelashes. “No biting the fox….” “He’s mated.” “So are you.” The grizzly growl was so hot. “Working. Hush.”
Things I did not like in the book;
• Brock's past was still vague and left me wanting to know more.
• So the"cult" was really on drugs so why the symbols?
• Who's the puppet master?
• Why did Griz & Brock take a six week vacation when they JUST met. They did not go through that much crap so what was the point? Not to mention Griz was only working for a few days. If it had been the real world he be fired before he got paid. With Dylan & Rey I understand. But not these two.
• Why was Griz do sad? I
• Lord don't bring in those were cockroaches!
Despite the of questions the book really was better than the first. Can't wait for the rest!
This next book in Apex Investigations once again has the problem of the apex predators not being so apex in the situation they are in. After the last case and the loss of their office the group has been on normal jobs and have taken on a new hire. Locke helped on the last case and interviews to join which fits in well with the team. But soon the case that was supposed to be strait forward is twisting into unexpected problems and the entire team is once again in danger.
Locke and Brock showed a connection in the first book which comes up again here. The only rushed thing is that, well, their relationship feels rushed. The two men found our they were likely mates years back but ran from each other. Now Brock is gunshy after a bad relationship, saying he doesn't know if he would be ready for a mate. Yet all of a page later the two are mating and form the bond. It just felt very sudden as the concerns that Brock had weren't exactly brought up. They were able to work together and connect for the rest of the book, but that initial jump felt rushed.
There is a hint in this book of something larger happening. The case goes crazy fast in a way that seems off for how it started. This doesn't appear to be unique after the way the last job went and the level of weirdness hints that perhaps things are interconnected. There is something going on that Apex Investigations is finding itself in the middle of and it will be interesting to see where that leads!
A great sequel to book 1 in the Apex Investigations series. The story really picks up a gear and gives us action, drama and mystery with a couple that really build up a connection and romance. Brock and Griz have a history and are now back working together when Mick hires Griz as a new PI. It doesn't take long for the two to properly reconnect and build on what they could have had in the past. The investigation they work on, though, is so much more complicated with all not as it seems, possible magic users, attacks on the team and an untrustworthy client. Things are fast paced with the group working to find out what is actually happening regarding the client and who is hurting their team. Whilst at first Brock and Griz seem to jump right into things without any conversation but a connection emerges between the two that seems to have been buried in their shared past. They have definite heat and I love the way in which Brock slowly learns to lean on and trust another. Again, the team really come together, caring and fighting for each other, showing what it means to be pack. There are definitely at least one couple I'm rooting for and hoping to read next and James needs a HEA after everything he's been through across the two books so far. This book was an improvement for me on book on and I'm excited for book two as the series story arc gets deeper and the next couple gets their story. A definite recommendation from me. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
So happy we get to revisit everyone at Apex Investigations! Everyone is adjusting to their new office / quarters after the last one was destroyed. This time our story focuses on a grumpy jaguar and a bear looking to make a change.
Brock, the jaguar, aka grumpy kitty, has had a difficult past and because of that is slow to trust and believe in people. Locke, or Griz, is a grizzly bear new to Apex but known to Brock. We first met him in Book 1 when he helped save Rey. They join forces when assigned a problematic client but the routine job becomes anything but and brings more danger than they expected to the entire team.
Brock and Locke (hey that rhymes!) have a history and working together on this case allows them to rekindle an old flame. I loved seeing Brock let down his guard and open himself up to love and the hugs he gets from Rey. Together, he and Griz heal each others’ wounds. There is lots of sexy tension between Brock and Griz, and Griz also has some really funny one-liners. I wonder whose story is next and who is hunting the team? Another fun read by Julia Talbot.
An enjoyable well-paced MM shifter romance with an undertone of a “second chance”, it is the second book in the series “Apex Investigations” & there are character crossovers & can be read as a standalone. The plot is well-written & entertaining with interesting characters that have individual personalities that complement each other. There is: a rather grumpy jaguar (Block) with a tough past & a distrustful attitude comes into contract with a grizzly bear & new employee (Locke) who is known to him & have a past history together, a dishonest client (Wolfy Hetrick), a investigation company (Apex), various kinds of shifters, cults, magic, humor, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, drama, mystery, adventure, action, threats, enemies, danger, conflict, violence, deceit, , camaraderie, complications, attractions, mates, surveillance assignments, traps, poison, vengeful feelings, abduction, confrontations, injuries, suspicions, a relaxing getaway, happiness, contentment, love, some steam & a intriguing epilogue. I look forward to the next book in this series with great anticipation.
I found Jaguar And Grizzly even more intriguing than the previous book,Fox And Wolf. Because the guys might have started with investigating a simple enough case of following a cheating wife, but they soon enough find themselves thrown in one dangerous situation after another, risking their lives at every turn in the plot.
It was also fun to see Brock and Griz together, the grouchy jaguar becoming a purring kitty around his grizzly mate. Very entertaining seeing two tough shifters being all cute, sappy and gooey when in love.
I can't wait for the next installment of the series. Because someone really seems to have it against the Apex team. The attacks might not seem connected but it soon becomes clear that they have the same mind behind them, somebody scary who plans to take down the private investigators. The mystery thickens and the danger increases. I'm looking forward to seeing what other adventures Mick and his pack will have to live through.
So I liked this story quite a bit, and I loved that Brock and Locke/Griz were reunited and finally found their way together, but I felt like I was missing just a little bit about their history and why they were apart. It sounded like there was more to it than just Brock being in a different relationship. There was a reason that Brock ran, but (unless I completely missed it) I didn't see it mentioned really anywhere and Griz was just ready to move on without any discussion. It seemed like Brock very quickly jumped to being with Griz after trying to be away for so long. Them coming together just seemed a little too easy. That said, it was great to once again read about the Apex Investigations group. It definitely seems like there is more going on than they know about, so I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I hope we get to see Kit get together with his boss man. :-)
I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC provided by LesCourt Author Services
This picks up from where the last book ended. Brock decides to accept Grizz as his mate, I enjoyed following the development of their characters and their relationship whilst reading the story.
As a follow up to the previous book, all of the group are present, and it was interesting to view the situation from different perspectives. The plot moves at a steady pace with lots of humour, and some heartbreak for Brock and Grizz.
I also enjoyed the dynamics between the members of the group – they don't miss a chance to wind each other up, but God help anyone else who tries to hurt them. I liked their camaraderie, and the way in which they looked out for one another.
I loved the secondary characters, (especially Kit), and am so looking forward to the next book. I personally don't believe that this can't be read as a standalone, I recommend you read Fox and Wolf first.
This is the second book in the series. While they can be read as a standalone, it's best enjoyed as a continuation because there's an overall arc that connects them. We already knew Brock, the Portuguese jaguar from the previous book. We also met Griz or Locke, a grizzly bear, as well and get note in depth with them both. Brock was greviously wounded in the past by his psychotic ex, a fox, which led to some tension with Rey. Because of his past, when he and Griz were first lovers, he shut down any possibility of them being mates because he was terrified of ever being vulnerable again and tied down to the wrong person. Griz simply had faith and waited him out. A spectere from the past reaches out and leaves half the team seriously injured and waiting for the other shoe to drop. I can't wait to continue this series and solve the mystery with the team.
Second chance come with patience and hope. Grizz and Brock will get their second chance at love and being mates here in this story. They do have a history, and now they have a future because of love and patience and the willingness to forgive and try again. Brock and Grizz are steamy together and so deserve a chance to find their way together.
We have the continuation of a mystery in this book, someone is out to get the Apex team and we don't know who. I am looking forward to more about the Alpha, Mick, who is the head of the Apex Investigations agency. Seems like he has a story to tell also.
This is book two of the Apex Investigations series and I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
I was gifted this book from the LesCourt Author Services and i freely give my honest opinion and review.
Book two in the series revolves around two more team members, Brock, a jaguar and Locke, a grizzly bear. This one is a second chance romance. The suspense part of the story is convoluted and thin. This book did not hold my attention as well. The sex scenes were over the top and gratuitous, not adding much to the storyline or character development. And because the suspense plot was thin there wasn’t much to fall back on. The action scenes were irritating because this team is supposed to be the best but they continue to make ridiculous, rookie mistakes.
The book ends on a cliffhanger but I’m not sure there is enough here to make me curious enough to continue the series.
**I received an advanced reader copy for an objective review. **
Okay this one is so much better than the first one for me. The problem I had with the switching of POV was sorted and smoother, the characters are as intriguing as before, the steam factor is just as high. The pacing was good and I got all the storyline this time, also we have the emergence of an overarching storyline that was part of the first book that I apparently missed.
Brock and Griz have known each other for year and worked together before, in fact Griz knows that they are mates, he just needs to convince Brock and now he’s working with the Apex team/family/pack he has the chance, not that Brock needs all that much convincing.
This I found to be an easier read with a better flow, I have higher hopes for the next book.
There was so much I loved about this. First off, Paddy, come on that’s just too adorable. We get a bit of Brock’s history. At first I was a little disappointed we didn’t get me but I now think there’s a very good reason why. I liked that the danger wasn’t used as a prop but was actually key to the story, and that’s for both this one and the previous one. They both feed the overall series story and hold important clues in my opinion. So many types of shifters including the mated pairs. The only drawback to reading this is the wait for the next one. Who will it be about? What clues are we getting next? And a very important one, what new types of shifters will we meet?
