This beginning science reader introduces children to extraordinary undersea creatures. Did you know seahorses have to eat all the time to stay alive? Or that the males of the species actually are the ones to carry the eggs? In this book, learners will discover where seahorses live, what they eat, what eats them, how they are different from other sea creatures, and how people can help prevent their extinction.
My copy of Caballitos de mar/Sea Horses is a bilingual copy and compares Sea Horses to other animals that children are familiar with like they have eyes like a lizard. The pictures are clear and give the children a good idea what Sea Horses look like. One of the local pet stores in our county seat carry Sea Horses so we send a note home to parents that we have talked about them and they can take the children to see them locally. It is a great extension activity that parents can do with their children to help extend a lesson and give a hands-on experience to the children.
