Brenda has tried to go on with her life after Sonny told her he never wanted to see her again. She has dated, disastrously, and become even closer to her group of lifelong friends. Without any help from the love of her life, she has a thriving business, an active social life and a beautiful home of her own. But, she's missing something. Him.
Sonny made mistakes and is now serving his penance to make up for them. Knowing it would be years before he could touch her again, he made a decision to let Brenda go. He broke her heart, even though he convinced himself it was for her own good. Now, he has an opportunity to get his life back. Can he convince Brenda to give him a second chance?
4.4 stars. This was really sweet and I liked it. But that ending was honestly so anticlimactic and unsatisfying. I understand we’ll be getting our answers in the next book, but damn. Also, the drama that was happening ended super easily too.
I don’t know. Sonny and Brenda back together was really heartwarming and sweet to see. Their relationship basically just snapped back into place after she decided to forgive him.
I would have liked a little more from this, but I still really enjoyed it. I just hate a cliffhanger.
Now I’m really gonna have to read the next book. I want answers, dammit.
I still want my own biker! I loved this one it was amazing. The family, the second chance and the creepy guy that got what was coming to him. Can't wait to read the next book!
When Sonny was sent to prison the one thing he wanted was for Brenda to move on. It killed him to let the love of his life go but he was going to be in jail for 15 years and that was too much to ask of her. Brenda didn't car, she loved Sonny unconditionally and even though he would not see her or accept any letters, she kept a journal writing to Sonny and all of her hopes, fears, and anything that happened in her life.
Sonny ends up getting released early and although he believes Brenda moved on, he quickly realizes he wants her back. Can Brenda take another chance on him or wills he push him away like he did to her?
I was not sure I wanted to read this one or not. I had read most of the series but not in order and didn't know if I could take a linking to Sonny. Was I wrong, yes. I thought this was written extremely well and shed a few tears on this one. Brenda and Sonny are a terrific couple have had a ton of hurdles thrown at them and still are so much in love it is wonderful. Excellent story, well worth picking up.
It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. There was really no excitement and they never really talked about what he said when he went away. I think a flash back to that scene would of really helped in this case.
I wanted so bad for Brenda and Sonny to find their way back to each other despite him telling her to move on. Prison couldn't kill their love. When he's let out, he has to work to prove he won't hurt her again and she'll come first. And there is a nice twist at the end that I didn't expect. And there's always some laughs in Cee's books. The characters are ones you will never forget.
With the little we have known about Sonny so far, I wasn't up to read this one. I liked Brenda and hated how he pushed her aside, sure he was trying to be altruistic, but still, not a good move. I did really love how all the brothers came to talk to Brenda about Sonny getting out and how they didn't want to loose her, that they would give her the space she asked for at the start, but it wouldn't be forever.
I thought it great that Sonny didn't push Brenda either, he seemed thankful to be out and to learn that all of his things were saved for him. It was around this time that I started to thaw towards Sonny and I was glad that Brenda and he talked things through, but started back up.
From there things got a bit crazy! You could see what was going on, even if the characters took a bit to catch up to you. I was stunned with everything that happened, from what was found at Brenda's house multiple times, to the fated Target trip, to Fain hiding out in the bathroom.
Things worked out in the end, leaving Sonny and Brenda to live their lives happy.
Dnf I had this marked not for me for the longest time and decided to give it a try. Stopped when Drea was yelling at Brenda about how she was acting once Sonny got out. So many things said and done that I don't agree with I felt like they were all stupid and didn't want to read on
I find it unrealistic that the main couple could just resume their relationship after not seeing each other for six years, I guess everyone’s different but common sense dictates that people can change in that amount of time, specially if they’re i their early twenties. I certainly am not the same person I was six years ago.
I know that in fiction—specially in romance—fantasies are usually what fuel creativity, but I think it’s also important to keep emotions and human reactions real. Brenda was very bitter about Sonny rejecting her, she stewed in all those negative feelings—and what she perceived as unrequited love—for six years. The author sold us on a very depressed Brenda who was unhealthily obsessed with someone who didn’t want anything to do with her—as far as she knew—to the point of self-sabotage. And then Sonny comes back and Brenda is all like “let’s be friends” I mean come on, I could’ve bought this if Brenda had spent the years without Sonny missing him and understanding why he did what he did free of resentment, but the woman was ANGRY and then she wasn’t.
I think of human dynamics as gears, if one moves the ones in contact with it will move, moving in turn the ones in contact with them and so on. In this group’s dynamic there weren’t any organic reactions to the situation—except maybe when Brenda tells Sonny that she wants to take it slow, but that’s ruined when Drea accuses her of “punishing” Sonny, and when she freaks at the blood on his boots, but that isn’t explored enough—but I’m not surprised since she did almost the same in Carlie and Sam’s book, except there the secondary characters had more realistic reactions to Carlie coming back after eleven years.
I’m going to be honest here, it feels like the author tries ridiculously hard to write angst/drama free stories because she doesn’t like drama or confrontation in the books she reads—and maybe in her life—and is willing to ignore her characters’ voice in order to make them ridiculously accommodating, which makes for a bland story.
Also, there was real opportunity with the stalker plot, but it was obliterated by the absurd anticlimactic outcome, the story just deflated, maybe a better writer could’ve sold it but this one doesn’t have the talent for it—right now, maybe later if she learns from her previous works.
After reading three books from this author I can tell you that she has a problem with follow through, her stories start promising but they just fizzle out, it’s not even a spectacular crash and burn, it’s more like a soda that went from ice cold and effervescent to warm and flat without you even noticing, but when you drink that $h!t it’s disgusting and disappointing.
Im going to give her one more chance to see if she can improve, but I’m not holding my breath, usually authors with lots of great reviews ignore the bad ones and learn nothing, but I hope she does because her work has promise. Maybe she could benefit from an editor, or for anyone to question all the damn plot-holes and missed opportunities.
I loved Sonny and Brenda’s story. It was great to see all the guys and their ladies from the last three books again. I’m so glad that I stumbled across Cee’s books. I urge other readers to give her books a try, you’ll probably fall in love with her characters like I have! I can’t wait to read Birds book next!
I do NOT consider it to be a STAND-ALONE read. Cee Bowerman authors multiple series set within Rojo, Texas and they are intertwined. There is a correct reading order and it can be found on her website (ceebowermanbooks.com). These really do need to be read in that order for maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers as there are multiple reoccurring characters, details that cannot be adequately recapped within the scope of another story that contributes to the story universe / world building, overlapping / concurrent timelines and overarching themes.
** There are some scenes that will be a trigger for sensitive readers. I have included examples below. Also, if you have not read the previous story in the two series, the following may contain SPOILERS **
Another great story! The world building continues to be excellent, maybe this is because of the way it has been built organically, scene by scene. The characters are strong and we continue to learn more about the Texas Kings and the values they hold.
My issue with this story / series is the line “it is not my secret to tell”. I understand this is to maintain the details for that person’s story, but it sets up the person new to the group to hurt someone inadvertently. Yes I know this is a story, but IRL this would be covered with a partner. Not sure why, but this story also contained quite a few more grammatical issues than normal. I highlighted some of them and loaded them out to Goodreads.com for anyone interested.
In this story, we finally learn about Brenda and Sonny. Specifically what he went to prison for and how she was involved. There are a couple of surprising turns, one of which is revealed before Sonny returns home. I liked at the beginning of most chapters there are excerpts from the journals Brenda kept when Sonny refused to accept her letters.
A personal note: most of the time the cover of a story doesn’t really match what happens within, but I really liked how the two mirrored each other.
One last comment / explanation for readers new to this series before I wrap this part up … the MC genre contains several different branches from sweet to outlaw to one percenters. While the Texas Knights MC is in the middle imo, the Texas Kings MC is more of the outlaw variety. Both focus on love, brotherhood, families and support, but the Texas Kings also bring vengeance to the table.
⛔️ The interwoven SERIES contains references to, or scenes detailing, subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some, including, but not limited to: adult language; derogatory terms; mental health challenges; steamy adult intimate scenes with dominance, submission, (play) spanking for pleasure, restraints, “bottom” play, breath play, sensory deprivation, voyeurism, exhibitionism, etc.; violence such as kidnapping, abduction, murder, death, torture, assault, fighting, betrayal, coercion, blackmail, rape, attempted rape, stalking, threats, subterfuge, money laundering, cheating, prostitution, human trafficking, mafia / cartels, arson, drug use, drug addiction, drug manufacturing, drug distribution, as well as the mental, physical and sexual abuse of females and/or children, polygamy, etc.
** Caution: The series contains scenes with reference to, or detailed graphic violence against females and children that fit into the storyline, but may be a trigger for some **
There are a few grammatical issues in the story. Listed below are examples of errors I found within this story and the SERIES: incorrect word choice (piece iso peace, her iso you), incorrect word tense (one iso ones), typos (big[1] iso big, abou iso about, att iso at) punctuation errors (extra periods, commas, extra spaces, missed quotation marks, missed capitalization at beginning of sentence), missed words (to) and extra inserted / repetitive words.
I am mentioning these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.
So my may thing is the stalker situation was dumb we never got answers on how he was able to repeatedly enter her house. Also after all that why wouldn't you move I personally would never truly feel safe in that house after everything that happened. Aslo are we still going to running her business from her home did you learn nothing that's just going to keep making yourself vulnerable. There are two things that really bothered me and that is when Jace and Sonny moved her Christmas and Halloween decorations from the garage to the attic how did they not see all that wiring and stuff then. Second was when Sonny said after they moved in together he could never get anything like the house or truck she has now. When it was stated earlier that Brenda and Kari had set-up a checking account with all the money her and Sonny were saving for a house before he went to jail and the bundles of cash he had in their apartment on top of the two large water jugs of change he had in the closet. Pretty sure that all the interest added to that over a 6 year period is plenty of money for a nice new truck and a downpayment towards a house.

This was quite the story and if you don't believe that true love exist, then you haven't met Brenda yet. Granted she went on several dates while Sonny was in prison, but none of them even got a kiss out of it and some were down right psycho. Sonny and others helped save some high faluting family members during a riot while in prison and even sustained some major damage to his stomach, but it lead to an early release and he and Brenda were able to begin their lives together. I thought it was awesome that Brenda saved all of Sonny's most prized possessions and how emotional he got. These guys might belong to different motorcycle clubs, but they also so there emotions and not ashamed of do so. Wow and the psycho that was obsessed with her and then hitting her and Sonny with his car and not too mention what he did in her bedroom. Another great story and now looking forward to reading the next one with Bird. Happy reading ladies.
Another 5☆rating for a book by Cee Bowerman; what a surprise--NOT! 😂
Okay, so out of the more than a dozen CB books I've devoured, all of them 5☆, this one is my favorite. It made me wish I lived in Rojo, Texas just so I could know the HOT Texas Kings men, their families, and their equally HOT, strong, sassy women. The unbreakable family dynamics between all of the club's members and their loved ones, regardless of whether or not matching DNA is even involved speaks of true love, loyalty and friendship. Non-judgmental, unconditional, real. I can't imagine a better feeling than experiencing such a powerful love. And the teasing that ensues whenever two or more are together is great. In my next life, I hope I get to be in a real life version of the Texas Kings, or their very good friends, the Texas Knights. Meanwhile, I'm thankful knowing there are dozens of CB's books I've yet to read. Yay! On to Book 4 of TKMC. 😁
Love, love, LOVED this book! Brief summary: Sonny and Brenda were #couplesgoals until he went to prison and told her not to contact him and go live her life. Brenda was crushed. When he gets out of prison, they have a second chance romance, but external dangers put their future in jeopardy. What I liked- the blend of humor and romance with a few suspenseful moments. Bowerman is good. What else I particularly liked- the characters. They have a rich history and a set of connections that are deep and intimate. Love these people. What I didn’t- not a damn thing. This book officially lands on the All-Time Favorites list. Cat’s Stats- MMC/FMC- Sonny and Brenda Heat- open door, explicit Series? Y Safety? Y Triggers- violence against humans and animals, death of animals, stalking, language. Tropes- First Love, Second Chance, Forced Separation, Ex Con, Fish Out of Water, Dear Diary.

Sonny went to prison 6 years ago. He was supposed to serve 15 years, but he got out early. When he left he told Brenda not to wait for him, he wouldn’t let her visit and he wouldn’t accept her letters or phone calls. He wanted her to have a life rather than wasting it waiting for him.
Brenda loved Sonny with all her heart and he broke it when he threw away their relationship. Despite clawing her way back out of heart break and going on a never ending carousel of first days, she still can’t stop thinking about him. When he gets out all she wants to do is protect her heart.
For some reason I didn’t enjoy this book quite as much as the others in the series. It was still good, but it didn’t give me the warm fuzzy feelings the others did. I think it was because Sonny was an idiot to get caught up in criminal activities in order to make money, without listening to Brenda tell him he needed to stop and she didn’t need money, she just needed him.
However, there was plenty of plot going on and all the usual characters were around causing mirth and merriment, and I’m still going to read the rest of the series, so it wasn’t like I didn’t like it, I just didn’t like it quite as much!
Sonny was in the MC run by Brenda's you father. When Brenda realized that her father was involved in human trafficking she turned him in. A lot of her family members were involved and were arrested as well. Her boyfriend Sonny turned states evidence and got s lighter sentence. He was going to be in prison for 15 years so he told Brenda to forget him. But his actions during a prison riot shortened his sentence to the six years already served and now he is out. He still loves Brenda and she still loves him. But there's unknown danger awaiting both of them. An action filled romance. I love the way the author incorporates race into the story. Too many authors simply write like Black people don't exist. But Cee has Blacks, Hispanic and gays in her stories in great blended ways.
Great writing, sweet yet gritty. Some genuine laugh out loud moments as well as some beautifully written, deeply emotional parts too. I love how strong the women are in this series. They aren't silly or overly anxious just to pad out dialogue or internal monologues. I like that Brenda doesn't simper and blush over sex and is fully involved, not needing her man to coax her orgasm from her. Wasn't quite as impressed when I realised I was the same generation as the "older" characters, lol! Guess that's just something I'll have to get used to. An interesting and twisty story that ends on a teeney tiny cliff hanger. Fortunately book 3, and the rest, are already out.
I am not a fan of the second chance genre. I have only really found one other second chance romance that I like. I read this one originally because I had read a bunch of the other in the series and really wanted to just see the background of these characters. Like her other books I didn’t have to read this one to understand the others but she makes you curious in her other books. So I ended just seeing if this would interest me and she surprised me. I loved this book. Of course there were things they had to overcome from their past but she does it in a way that is less drama and more how mature adults would deal with the situation. She did a really good job with this story.
So glad Sonny made it back to Brenda, in more ways than one. His return after his prison sentence, his return to their lives together and being there for her. Gosh bless Brenda when she felt she was being watched. Bryce was very creepy to say the least. Clever In that he was always there and the way he worked around her alarm system twice. As soon as Jace saw that hole in her ceiling I knew she had a watcher. Just didn’t realize he was across the street, front row seat. I was wondering if in the hospital after the accident if he was coming to finish her off or to kidnap her! One crazy guy for sure. Thanks for another great read.
Now this was a wonderful book to get lost in - Brenda has had a tough life, and her love is currently serving time in jail; he has told her he wants nothing to do with her, he wants her to just go and live her life, not waste it, waiting on him.
Sonny loves Brenda so hard, but he's in jail - for how long, who knows. There is a problem in his jail, and he is hurt, and after recovery, is granted his release.
He is amazed at the things Brenda has done for him, while incarcerated, and he is more determined than ever to get her back, no matter how hard he has to work - he was wrong, he can't live without her. Sonny, too, had a hard and crazy upbringing - he won't let anything or anyone interfere with his plans.
Cee Bowerman definitely has a way with words. She can make you happy or bring you to tears. But live conquers all and Sonny and B find their happily ever after. Even after being separated for 6 years and Sonny’s attempts to make her move on after his arrest doesn’t break up their love. It was a great feel good read with just the right amount of smexy times and suspense. My only problem is i thought the bad guy got off too easily. He needed to suffer more
In this book we find out why Sonny is in prison. I have to say though that I think he did the right thing for Brenda. He did what someone should do if they love you, let you live your life. Brenda and the girls are hoots. This book has both MCs in it and good thing to because someone wants to kill Brenda. This is an entertaining series and I plan to get book three right now.
Book 2 in the Texas Kings MC is the story of Sonny and Brenda. A second chance romance that takes you on a wild ride. These two have always belonged together. Brenda has always loved Sonny. Sonny only pushed Brenda away because he didn't know how long he would be in prison and he didn't want her to waste her life waiting on him. Things happen and Sonny gets released early. This book details the wild ride of these two finding each other again.
Absolutely LOVE .. so far book one & book two .. Simply magnificent story line & action . Without being over the top . Very well told . I love this authors style . 🥰2 books into my love affair with Cee Bowerman's literary art. 🥰
Thank you. I love the spine and fortitude in your heroines. No weak women protected by strong men. Strong women supported by strong men. Rack have vulnerabilities and their partner covers. So so clad to add you to my roster of favorite authors. You are in good company. I am a gluttonous reader and you are feeding my monster appetite.
This was really surprising. I vaguely remember book #1 & I'll probably vaguely remember this book too. I deducted 2 stars because of the animal abuse. I don't enjoy reading that. I get its awful and shows someone in a bad light but I just can't read it. Usually its an instant 1 star but I was less harsh because it isn't like an animal you meet and bond with. But it is talked about. A lot. Hence the 2 stars taken...
