This is a beautiful, large book with a distinctive font and captivating illustrations by Hans Enri. The brief introduction takes a more traditional (religious) view of the poem than I'm accustomed to reading about. The translation is good. (The poem is so beautifully simple it’s hard to imagine it done poorly.) It appears, however, to be a prose translation like the King James version. I can’t really tell. It’ clear, though, that Graves does not try to approximate the form the original Hebrew parallelism.

This is one of the most beautiful poems I’ve ever read and certainly one of my favorites. I tend to enjoy the Robert Alter translations (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...) of the Hebrew bible the most, but for Song of Songs I highly recommend the Ariel and Chana Bloch translation (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...). It’s bolder and less academic, and ultimately exquisite.

This edition of the immortal poem is a beautiful addition to anyone’s shelf. If you want more context and a more poetic rendition, I suggest the Bloch or Alter versions though.
