The concept for this book is remarkable and, had it been executed in a superior fashion, might have earned itself three, or even four, stars. My biggest criticism of this book is that it's CONFUSING! Too many characters are introduced too quickly, without enough detail. Especially with so many of them having similar names; (so many started with the letter "H") I understand that this is historical fiction and perhaps the names were of actual men who were involved in this period, but with so little ado to introduce each character, they remained unremarkable and indistinguishable from each other until far into the book (some up until the end.)
The list of characters at the end of the book and what became of each, to tie up any loose ends that may have remained would have been far more helpful at the beginning, just to keep everyone straight.
Also...MINI-SPOILER ALERT FOR THIS PARAGRAPH - the ending of the book was also unsatisfying in that the twist the author included was on too minor a detail to be exciting.
All in all, this was a waste of what MIGHT have turned out to be a golden opportunity.
