Abigail Trent was very young when she left the world she knew to forge her destiny with a half-breed Cheyenne brave, Lone Eagle. But now, as Civil War raged across the land, their love was put to the harshest test of all. For even in the peaceful New Mexico territory, they couldn't escape the violence of a country in upheaval. Soon fate would thrust them apart; soon Lone Eagle would be forced to leave the rapture of Abigail's arms to face the horrors of the white man's war. Yet they knew that one day they would be together again—free once more to share the dreams and the ecstasy of their wild, willful love.
I am a USA-TODAY best-selling author with 41 years, 76 books, and numerous writing awards behind me. My major genre is historical romance. I have always written for standard publishers but am now writing strictly for Amazon so I have more freedom to write real history. My most recent publication is SHADOW TRAIL, the 6th book in my Outlaw Hearts series. I also wrote and published my first full-length contemporary story, DANCING BENEATH YOU, in September 2022, a romance involving mystery and a depiction of reservation life in the Badlands of South Dakota. My best sellers are my SAVAGE DESTINY series (7 books) and my OUTLAW HEARTS series. See my website (www.rosannebittner.com) for details on all my books - most available for Kindle and in print. I am known for great love stories filled with real history and high emotion. I have also written many Native American stories, all based on real history.
I love American history. For those of you who have not yet read my books, my stories are generally set in the American West of the 1800s and feature vividly described, historically accurate settings that span the US from Missouri to California, from Canada to Mexico. Many of my books portray the poignant history of our Native Americans, and though the characters are my own, I use real historical locations and events in all my novels. I have also written about the French & Indian wars, American Revolution, the War of 1812, the war with Mexico (the Alamo), and the Civil War.
National magazine ROMANTIC TIMES has called me the "Queen of Western Romance" and an "emotional powerhouse." My husband and I have traveled the west for nearly 40 years and I have visited just about every location mentioned in my books.

This review is of “Embrace the Wild Land”, book #4 in the “Savage Destiny” series by Rosanne Bittner.
The Story: It is now 1861, and Abigail Trent Monroe and her husband, “Cheyenne” Zeke Monroe and their seven children are living happily in what is now present-day Colorado. Which means something bad is going to happen. It does when the Monroes travel to an Army fort. A soldier tries to rape Abbie, and Zeke later kills him. Meanwhile, Zeke’s white half-brother, Danny, leaves the West to go back east to join the Confederacy in the Civil War. In another development, Winston Garvey, ex-U.S. Senator and Evil White Man, is trying to find out the name and whereabouts of his half-Indian son.
As troubles mount for Zeke, Abbie, the Cheyenne and all Indian tribes, Danny is severely wounded during the Civil War, and Garvey’s son, Charles, and some of Garvey’s men have a confrontation with Zeke, Abbie and their family. The Monroes win the confrontation, but the elder Garvey puts the information together and realizes that the Monroes know about his other son. This leads to Garvey sending men to kidnap Abbie, who is later emotionally, mentally, physically and sexually abused by Garvey and his henchmen.
As the book progresses, Zeke finds Danny, and one of his other half-brothers, Lance. (A third half-brother, Lenny, was killed in the Civil War.) Zeke also makes some peace with his biological father. Zeke and his eldest son, Wolf’s Blood, deal out justice to Garvey and his men, and Zeke and Abbie re-find each other and, for a little while, are happy again.
Upside: As always, Ms. Bittner draws tremendous pictures with her words. She brings me, as a reader, into the lives of the Monroe family and makes me see not words on a page, but real people, with real emotions.
Downside: At times, Ms. Bittner’s writing is formulaic; I’ve already described this in earlier reviews.
Sex: The weakest part of Ms. Bittner’s writing is her love scenes, which are not particularly sexy nor imaginative to me.
Violence: Ms. Bittner, however, has a great imagination for violence, and it definitely shows up in “Embrace the Wild Land.” As usual, there are multiple scenes of shooting, assault, sexual assault and killing, and, toward the end of the book, it’s especially graphic. In Ms. Bittner’s world, the bad people always get their comeuppance; unfortunately , not before seriously hurting the good people.
Bottom Line: “Embrace the Wild Land” isn’t my favorite book by Ms. Bittner, but it’s still darn good.
Book #4 in the series is another great addition to this series. Zeke revisits many people from his younger years and is forced to deal with his past. This takes him away from his home and the entire family faces some of their worst nightmares. The love of Zeke and Abbie is tested more than ever. Each of this couple strength is almost not human like. The lives of the family continue to be affected and tested by the whites treatment of Indians and also because of the Civil War. The element of surprise is always right around the corner.
Another good book in the series. Like the others it did drag on a bit but at the same time I could not put the book down. I know this is partly a love story but one way they could shorten it is if they did not have a five page sex scene in every chapter with Cheyenne Zeke and Abby. Ha ha
To this point the stories of Abbie and Zeke have been educational, heartwarming, beautiful and full of non stop drama. I have LOVED every single book. These are a must read as they inform you about the difficulties of expanding to the West and the heartbreaking experiences of Native Indians as they were thrown out of their land. They are hard to read, but so beautifully written, that each one is a treasure. In fact, each one of Rosanne Bittner’s books leaves an indelible impression on your mind.
This is a wonderful story of Indians and there hard time. The white and there need for power. The north and the South, let use now the black troubles with the white need power use enough group people's the love of self and abagil and there family's. The Indians of how that try to work with the white. Anyone can read.
Wonderful wonderful totally sums up this book. This author can put you right into Abigails shoes. You can literally feel her sorrow. This whole series is a must read. I read this series many many years ago and now am reading it again and it's like I've never read it. Wonderful book series and wonderful author.
I love this book.A great love story of hardship and sacrifice for two people to be together.Appie lost her family on the trip and falls in love with this half breed who is a great warrior.Abbie gives him seven children and is happy living with the Indians for Zepe .I like the first book went they first meet. Its a great story .Rosanne is a great author.I have read a lot of her books.I recommend this book who love to read about the west and history of the Indian and white man in the 1800
Really, you MUST get all 7 books in the Savage Destiny series and fall in love with Zeke and his Abbie!!! My heart felt every emotion possible with these two - I cried, laughed, stressed, rejoiced, cheered, worried along with them. When a book/series can do that, you *know* they're the best! If I could only keep one set of fiction books, this would be it, hands down, no hesitation!
While I always enjoy reading how a couple gets together, I *love love LOVE* the romance and story that follows the HEA/wedding. I think that's another reason why I so enjoy this series - it didn't just stop at the wedding - we get to experience all their joys and struggles through their married life - but yet how much stronger their love grows over time.
This 4th book was a bit harder for me to read - not because of the writing itself, but I was starting to have a feeling of what may just happen to Abbie that Zeke wouldn't be around to save her.... While I desperately wanted to know what happened and how Zeke and Abbie worked through it, I wasn't wanting to get close enough to find out! My heart by this time in the series was very much involved and I didn't want to go through what Abbie was going to struggle through... but I did, and Zeke's over-flowing love for Abbie couldn't have been more needed or perfect!
So far Zeke has not left His Abbie-girl. But they are afraid that the civil war between the south and north will separate them. Danny, Zeke's half white brother is fighting in the civil war. Lance, Zeke's other half white brother is dead. Zeke's other half white brother is also fighting. Danny is now in prison with a wound and Emily his wife had came to Zeke to ask him to help and plus Danny and Emily has a daughter named Jennifer. Before Zeke and his family went home where Emily was waiting to ask him to help Danny, Zeke's eldest son did the sun dance at only 15 yrs. old. The wound in his thigh didn't heal and it got infected so Zeke had to cut it out. So now Zeke has left his wife and 7 children to save his brother and to deal with his past back at Tennesse where his dead wife and son rests. and where his father his...

Rosanne Bittner has a way with painting a picture with words worthy of feeling like your watching a movie. Embrace The Wild Land, her 4th book in the epic Savage Destiny series is a gut wrenching, heartbreaking book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Vengeance is often best dealt with when least expected. Zeke and Abbie are in for more than either of them could ever imagining happening. But with the love they share, their family by their side, & their strength they receive from each other, they will survive. Get ready for another fantastic Bittner book.
I was surprised that since Abby and Zeke were actually apart for most of this book I still loved it and enjoyed the journey. I have never read another series that sucked me in so much that I felt I was a part of the family.
I have yet to read a series that makes me feel as deeply as Bittner's Savage Destiny series. The power Bittner has to entrance her readers and bring true love to life is amazing. In this book Abbie and Zeke both have their own demons to put to rest, Zeke leaves Abbie and the children and in doing so Abbie is brought to her knees. This is such an emotional read, I still get goosebumps reading it after over 10 years.
