*Listened to the audiobook only without supplemental materials.

Dr. Blair's book utilizes mnemonics, a learning technique that I believe isn't used enough in education as a whole (especially languages). The technique is associating a concept with a unique story or thought, which would make it easier to recall.

Ex. The Japanese word for "when" is "itsu". To remember this, just remember "WHEN am I going to EAT dinner with SUE?"

This is only one example, but the whole book teaches Japanese by this principle. I have tried quite a few learning Japanese audiobooks, and very few (if any) reaches this level of effectiveness and efficiency.

It might be jarring to some. The wacky and corny storyline threw me off at first, but I must admit that it made my listening more interesting and my brain more attentive. (If only so I could continue to scoff and deride it)

I wish there were more books in this style for intermediate and advanced Japanese. But I will be grateful for this one, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to spice up their Japanese self-education!

Unique approach! I was excited when it began, thinking it was going to be a story with various Japanese words thrown in to learn or review in context, but the majority of it was little mnemonic tricks to hep memorize words.

The audiobook is just a duplicate of the express lane Japanese book. The content is literally half the previous book of Dr.Blair's Japanese guide.

Story is Lol. Actually a great review and focused on memory creation for language. Deserves a higher rating on Goodreads.

I finished listening to this, but I'm going to have to listen to it a few more times before I feel confident about some of the terms. I definitely learned some new words that I didn't previously know. But as far as remembering all the conversational Japanese? I would definitely need to listen to it more than once. That being said, the way they present the subject is easy to follow.

Corny story but fun way of memorizing. I was good with keeping up until about lesson N. Then it was like we should be able to speak fluent Japanese o.o I don't think it would have gone as well if I didn't already know the basics but I did learn a few things.
