Oracle's Path #1

Prophecy of Convergence

Rate this book
The twisted dragon queen stirs…

Half-elf Oracle Aviana is no stranger to prophecies. With a strong connection since birth to the dragon god, Akorith, the dissonant whispers of fate have followed her from the beginning. And when an ominous warning foretelling of the destruction of her clan comes her way, she isn’t sure what to make of it.

Then when her younger sister needs to be prepared for her coming of age trial—a task that will test the woman’s fortitude and innocence—Aviana is the one tasked with showing her the world outside their secluded town. Her hands full with her sister’s childish nature, a foreboding prophecy is the last thing Aviana needs on her mind.

The signs of the prophecy, however, appear: pirate attacks, a fight with a dragon, and crossing paths with a cheerful dwarf and stunted, lecherous elf—and Aviana can’t ignore them. Things go from bad to worse, and she’ll have to trust her intuition and the most unlikely of allies to make it through, or the world will be plunged into chaos…

Readers who enjoy epic adventures, fantasy with a healthy dose of romance, and a strong heroine who defies all odds, won’t be able to put down Prophecy of Convergence, leaving you reading long into the night.

Buy Prophecy of Convergence and discover for yourself whether one determined Oracle can create her own fate, or whether she’ll be lost in the threads of prophecy…

This book is so much like a RPG i absolutely loved it. I think as a gamer it made me love the book more. Temperence annoyed me a little bit but she also had a heart of gold and would do anything for her big sister. Aviana I loved her and how she was trying to help her sister see more of the world and to grow away from her mum. I can't wait to read the next book.

Wow this was mesmerising mind boggling puzzle of magical creatures put together by a creative mind. Excellent wordbuilding. Aviana is a talented feisty character who has visions, raises owl cats with many secrets whereas her half sibling Temperence is naive, eccentric and talks to her toy dragon Kyanite, but also a prodigy. In an effort to raise Temperence maturity levels, Aviana sets off on an across country travelling adventure. Definitely looking forward to the next book for more adventures. A lof unthought of creatures and magics in this entertaining book.
I received an advanced review copy from the author and leave this review voluntary Thank you Shannon

I DNF'd this one around 10% or so. It just wasn't working for me. I didn't care about the characters and the story seemed to lack direction. The whole story and world didn't come alive for me and there was nothing to keep my attention. Temperance their immature personality was so overdone it didn't feel realistic. There were things that didn't quite make sense, the way the story progressed felt off and then there was that weird time skip as well. I liked the talking tree though and the concept of owlcats/.

An entertaining jumble.
There's a lot of good world building and ideas here, but at the same time there's also a lot of 'first book in a saga' syndrome.
You can see the 'we need to get from A to B to C..." moments. It's a bit clunky.

the good: in a time when fantasy is taking itself VERY seriously, this book had a nice sense of fun and adventure.
This is a world you'd want to wander around in.
The cast is very likable and interesting. Nobody feels wasted or just like a 'I need a guard here' type of character. Everyone has a distinct feel and voice to them.

Now I'm not sure if this is intentional, but while we are told the younger sister acts young for her age, it felt to me like she might actually be on the autism spectrum, which made her a more interesting character, as it's not something I'd ever seen before in a fantasy novel.

The less good:
Too many characters sound modern when they speak.
Which wouldn't be a problem, except half the cast talks in a typical fantasy novel style. It's distracting. You gotta pick one or the other.

Too many characters gain a plot convenience magic power over the course of the book and it doesn't seem to fit with their already established skill set.
At the 3/4 mark a character suddenly is able to shapeshift without that ever really being hinted at in the story.
It was jarring.

All in all, I had more fun when the sisters were playing tourist, then when we started the epic saga, but there's enough here that I enjoyed to get me to come back for Book 2.

Preface: I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This book contains straight-up plagiarism, and not in the iffy way I initially expected. It is very, very obvious from the get-go that this novel takes place in the D&D universe, just with different names on everything. The classes are the same (arcane/divine/druid spell-casting, complete with wild-shape, barbarian rage, innate spellcasting vs book magic, magical bards, etc. etc.), the spells are the same (Prestidigitation, Pass Without Trace, various fireball/lighting spells, Lay on Hands, etc.), the races are the same (even dragonborn have the same element-spitting powers), the magical items are the same ("infinite satchel" aka the bag of holding is the most egregious example, but there are others)...I could go on and on. It is a one-to-one ripoff.

But, that's not uncommon in the fantasy genre. A lot of people ape off of Tolkien or D&D because it's easy and familiar. What really takes the cake in this novel is that the final third of the book is essentially the inciting incident in the Mines of Phandelver module. You can find a PDF of this module for free via Google, so you can look it up yourself if you're curious, but the beginning of this module involves:

- Party escorting a dwarven merchant with a mysterious side-gig and an armored warrior: check
- Party is ambushed by goblins: check
- Goblins live in large cave with a stream inside: check
- Goblins are ruled by bugbear chief with a fondness for wolves: check
- Party attempts to rescue merchant/warrior, but only finds the warrior, barely alive: check
- Merchant has already been taken to another location on behalf of a shadow-y villain, thus spurring the party onward to continue the adventure and find him: check
(Side note, the villain's name in the module is the Black Spider. In this it's the Widow Maker. Black Spider...Black Widow...Widow Maker?? This one might be a stretch.)

All of this could be written off as merely being generic fodder - BUT. The big clincher comes in the loot the characters receive once they kill everyone. They receive, specifically, a ton of gold...and a jade frog and three golden teeth.

Guess what other special loot is in the Mines module for this specific encounter? That's right. A jade frog and three golden teeth. That being a coincidence is literally so improbable that it's impossible to believe this is anything but a straight-up ripoff. The author clearly had a fun little D&D game, liked the characters enough to want to do something with them, and decided to turn it into a novel while doing the bare minimum to disguise their theft. It's disgusting.

Even if this wasn't the case, this would be, at best, a 2.5 star book. It has literally no plot for almost the entire novel. The characters have no real goals, there's no time factor in anything they do, etc. The main character is overly perfect and bland - she is beautiful, a talent dancer, a great spellcaster, better at medicine than a master alchemist, an amazing fighter, can sleep with anyone she lays eyes on, etc. Her sister is irritatingly immature and saccharine. The other characters are flat and just rotate turns ogling the main character and preaching her virtues. There's literally no story beyond her being amazing and her sister being annoying. That's it. That's the whole novel - until it starts ripping off the module.

I absolutely would not recommend this book - but if you enjoyed it, I absolutely would recommend trying to find a D&D game in your area, haha. Heck, find someone to run the module for you. It's a heck of a lot more fun than reading this derivative trash.

Another reviewer here described the book as an "entertaining jumble" and I think that is spot on.
I do not regret reading it and will look out for the 2nd book.

You can tell the author has a love for fantasy books and most likely fantasy games. I got a fantasy nerd vibe that was very cheery and nostalgic for me. I received this book for free via a giveaway the author participated in. I knew from the cover and blurb what to expect and it gave exactly that. Just know that I picked this up as a light and fun read, not to take anything too seriously.

My first impression was that the descriptors could use some work. The reader is definitely given point-blank (and a little superficial) statements to describe the characters, clothing, setting, and even attitudes. But on the other hand, it was easy to read and understand what the author wanted you to know. The characters are all likable. The younger sister that is described as "immature" acts in ways that are even more silly and air-headed than my nieces at 5 or 6. Some of it doesn't seem that believable. But I am interested to see her evolution, so it got me there. I actually ended up really liking the MC. The world-building felt familiar but also that you had no idea what would pop up next. This book definitely doesn't stick to just one thing. I liked the ambition of creating a fuller, diverse world.

There are a lot of secrets and history alluded to. The book never stops adding little bits of info to keep you thinking. This is actually what kept me interested. I like to find out the answers to all my questions. And I had a ton of them. My only major complaint about the book is that by the end I had zero of my questions answered. It felt like we stopped mid-book. I prefer to have a feeling that at least one major plot point had resolution at the end (even if that causes a plot twist that leads to new questions)

If you are looking for something different, silly, nerdy, fun and a quick read - as well as a self-published author, give it a try! (if you can handle waiting for answers till the next book)

I had been meaning to read this book for a little bit and finally had a chance. I liked the concept of the book. At first I did feel like I was missing something or it really wasn’t the first book in the series but was able to get going in it after a little while. It did do this some as in some cases how it mentioned people were like you should already know them. Was it bad enough to make give up as confusing, no. Yet it was distracting from the story some. After I got more into the book I did enjoy the story and characters. The sister was funny and fun to read about with her way of seeing the world. The book was left at a spot were wished for more but where also could walk away. I did like the world building and thought it would be cool to see more illustrations of some of it. Yet then you couldn’t picture it in your own way. I did receive an ARC from hidden gems for an honest review. Over all I did like the book and read it in one sitting. I was interested enough in the characters that I would look for the next book in the series. For me the confusion at first and here and there would make me mark it down one star. It was good enough that I would recommend it to others though.

A quest impossible to complete? Decades have passed since the last novella. Aviana is now almost seventy years old (though looks like a young woman in her twenties) and now has a half-sister named Temperance, who has been kept isolated by her mother, and is very immature for her age. Avian has gotten approval from her father to take Temperance and a tour so she can learn about other cultures and be ready for her coming of age test. If she passes she will finally get to meet their father and learn that she is part dragon. Akorith comes to Aviana in a dream and gives her a quest. She must find a queen and a lost city. As they travel, Temperance learns to use her magic better and has to fight for her’s and Aviana’s life several times. They meet and make many friends along the way, but several new friends travelling with them appeared in Aviana’s dream. What part do they play in her quest?

I enjoyed Aviana’s strength of character along with her fighting skills and magical capabilities. Her step-sister Temperance (who’s on the cusp of adulthood) is very juvenile in her behaviour and easily side-tracked. I found her childish conduct quite annoying, and I hope her character grows and matures as a result of this journey with Aviana.

The story features elves, orcs, goblins, dwarves, some dragon shifters plus a few humans and Gods. There’s plenty of action & adventure, magic, mystery and some MF and MM sex (few explicit details though). I’m curious to see how Aviana’s visions unfold as the story continues in “Prophecy of Unbroken Oaths”. I received an Advance Reader Copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.

NOTE: this is a revision of the story that was originally released in 2019

What a fun and exciting read! This story is full of excitement from the first page. Perfect for fans of D&D, there are tons of references to familiar spells and characters.

The story introduces a cast of unique and interesting characters, and the varying viewpoints serve to give insight into each of them. It was fascinating to read the different writing style for each character, allowing all of them to have their own unique voice.

As a whole, this is a tale full of action, adventure, and magic. Prophecy of Convergence is a great read to kick off an epic reading journey.

An epic tale of a powerful young woman. Her goal is to prepare her sister for the future. The love between these two is obvious throughout the story. They have incredible magic and abilities.

The author pulls multiple threads and characters together. Is it coincidence? Is it fate? Or are the gods pulling the strings.

Read this story and see how you see all the action and characters coming together.

An interesting high fantasy book with lots of creatures. Aviana is the main character who is interesting with lots of powers. It’s an adventure with her sister Temperance and they meet lots of unusual people along the way. It has lots of world building and character building which may take some time to get into. I found myself wanting to know where the characters are going, what they are doing, and what else happens. There isn’t spice but maybe in the future books. I will definitely want to read the next to find out what Avi and Temperance are up to.

A beautifully descriptive story that follows two sisters as they embark on an adventure to see the kingdom and experience all it has to offer.

Lots and lots of characters and creatures. The owlcats sounded absolutely gorgeous and I would have loved to get more of them. The dragon shifters are extremely intriguing since I love them so I hope to see even more of them and Avi shifted too.

Avi is an interesting lead character. She’s very confident in herself, her body, her desires and her abilities. I loved seeing her throughout.

Temperance is uniquely Temperance. It took me a bit to get into her character but then I too say the vibe that is Temperance. Her Kyanite also stirred up questions in my mind. Is he truly just a toy or is a god speaking through him like they talk to Avi.

The romance aspect of this book was a bit confusing to me. Avi does have a couple lovers throughout the story and she obviously has a past with Xalanath but I’m not sure where a relationship(s) is going further. I’ll be interested to see which relationship(s) grows in book 2.

An epic fantasy adventure across many locations, multiple povs from the diverse cast of characters, magic and lots and lots of adventures.

Multiple povs told in first person

Main characters-
Aviana of clan Xenre - female lead character, half dragon
Temperance of clan Remenia - younger sister, half dragon
Krax - half orc
Xalanath - male bronze dragon shifter
Orsik Stranheim - cleric of Ildri
Galinndan Venfiel - paladin from Platinum Temple

Steam - one steamy chapter

I enjoyed this book so much; it gave me Lord of the Rings vibes. I loved reading about all the magical beings, how they’re portrayed, and their unique gifts. The spiciness was a nice addition. I’ve gotta admit, though, the sister is quite annoying at times.

It seems like the lead’s mother is part of a bigger mystery that’s central to the story, and I’m definitely curious about her fate and what secrets the family might be keeping. There’s a lot of potential for twists surrounding her past or her connection to the prophecy. I’m eager to see how those questions get answered in the next book—especially since it feels like her mother’s story could hold the key to everything the lead is facing.

I’m looking forward to what comes next and hope we get answers to these lingering questions!

Prophecy of Convergence by Shannon Pemrick

This is a story about an “alluring half-elven woman” using her magic and swords to deal with friends and enemies across an unusual world.
She is travelling the world with her younger step-sister, who is twenty-ish but acts 12ish all the way through the book. And we are constantly reminded every chapter just how young she behaves all the time. Yeah, I get it, she’s the long arc character intended to bloom across a number of books, but she takes up so much of the story, yet never matures - she’s annoying, after 300 pages, very annoying.

The world it’s set in is ok. We travelling across different locations, with bandits breaking up the road trips:). The characters... I found a bit hard to attach to, but that could be me. The story, is a precursor to the next book. It’s an interesting read as a bunch of people are collected around our heroines. They are a mixture or martial, magic and mixed people of multiple races (including dragons:).

Before the story starts we are introduced to it including this excerpt:
“Like all of Shannon Pemrick’s work, the Oracle’s Path series is NOT a clean read, or suited for younger audiences.”
I’ve read a number of stories with similar intros and this one is not one of them. The story does read like a young adult pitch and has almost no risqué aspects at all. It took me a long time to read the book, nuff sed.

All in all, it’s an ok story, written with style 2/5

A great fantasy quest that takes a lot of clichés, chew them with geek experience (and probably a lot of rpg jokes) and spit them back in a new fashion. This story follows the usual rules of the quest with protagonists having their own background, gods or prophecies and motivations merging into one great quest for what they first think is just a job along the way. Then situations arise and let's be honest some are ridiculous, giving a very funny side to the story. Combined with the comes-back of the characters it was really agreeable to read and full of geek jokes without being as ironic as Terry Pratchett's work.
The narration was served by a good cast (and dragons!), led by a strong female protagonist. Aviana is the kind that is not perfect but have many strong and hero-like traits. But the character that I really want to highlight is Temperance. The young, naïve and yet so wise youngest of the group. The ones that loves gems (and dragons) the most. She is full of contradictions yet so realistic and that was a feast! Thought, I doubt she is the craziest of the bunch…
As for the world-building it was really interesting, and I could practically get the map in my head as the characters further advanced.
So if you like good plots with likable characters (and dragons!) dive into this series by Shannon Pemrick and follow Avian and Temperance in this adventure.

Our heroine is tasked with helping her sister prepare for her coming of age ceremony. Too bad prophecies of doom come at the same time. All she needs now is a little unasked for help...

This is the start of a new fantasy series featuring all kinds of fun things. On the surface, it is similar to so many others including dragons, elves, magic, prophecies, etc. But this one sets is own course with a well developed world and a group of fascinating and fun characters. There is an interesting balance of fancy and foreboding mixed into the story which made for a riveting read. I really liked the various characters with all their quirks as that made for a very entertaining and engaging read. The story does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I for one and anxious to read the next book as well.

Highly recommended.

Sooo good. So. So. Good. That’s what the “Cliff’s Notes” version of any review of Shannon Pemrick’s Prophecy of Convergence (Oracle's Path Book 1) should read. I love fantasy stories and read tons (and tons, and tons) of them. This book is tops. Epic fantasy, a dragon god, magic, adventure and a touch of romance. Add a fantastic leading character in Aviana, a half-elf Oracle. Yup. Pretty much all the ingredients for superb fun. Frankly, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

The book follows the adventures of Temperance, Avianna, Orsik and more as they follow the commands of their gods toward an uncertain task. Temperance, thanks to her mother, seems to be a five year old trapped in a twenty year olds body. Avianna is bi sexual and a strong minded woman who has a lot of insecurities hidden behind her show of strength. Together these two embark on an epic adventure, but be warned this book ends with a cliff hanger.

Prophecy Of Convergence is Book 1 in the Oracle's Path series. This is a well-written story with exceptional world-building and fantastic character development. Aviana, half-elf Oracle, is an amazing and strong lead character. We have everything present for a fun adventure which I highly recommend. Anxious for the next in series to see what adventure Shannon Erick has waiting for our characters. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.

I was disappointed by this book, it didn’t hook me like most of the other books have. It was quite hard going to keep reading. There wasn’t a lot of action or fun plot. The characters as always were easy to like and the plot was a good idea I just didn’t feel it reached its potential.
