Quint Damian had been able to locate Greeley Lassiter. He wanted her to reunite with her biological mother, who had abandoned her twenty-four years ago. . . . He never imagined that Greeley would be so different from her mother. She was open, generous and beautiful! He would have to convince her that he was not using her, and that what he really wanted was to take her to the altar.
Barbara Blackman was under the pseudonym Jeanne Allan, the author of 25 romance novels for Harlequin. On the cover of her first novel, Peter's Sister, her surname was misspelled as "Allen".
Llegados ha este punto sigo sin entender nada sobre las relaciones tóxicas, disfuncionales, con traumas y red flags de doble sentido que se reflejan en esta serie. Más que un libro de romántica parece un drama con romance, porque madre mía.
When Quint's beloved grandfather gets taken in by the selfish Fern, Quint decides to go find her birth daughter (the heroine) and let Fern show her true colors.
Greeley's father was a philandering rodeo cowboy with a woman in every rodeo stop. When one of those women turned up pregnant, she brought her to his wife Mary to look after. Mary and her children never saw Greeley as anything other than blood kin, even if she is a half-sibling. Despite her wonderful upbringing, Greeley still feels like an outsider.
When Quint shows up and tries to bully her into meeting her birth mom, she refuses. There was a lot of push and pull, back and forth, until she do finally goes to a party and meets Fern. It does not go well.
For the most part this was a nice little love story. But there were darker depths that brought it down occasionally. There was some humor and Greeley's family were wonderful. But Greeley and Quint spent a lot of time arguing, resisting their feelings and denying their feelings. Quint would acknowledge his attraction to Greeley in one breath and push her away with the next. It all gave me whiplash. Then came the misunderstandings and the "I'm not worthy of love" self talk. It got tedious.
After the Big Misunderstanding, there were nasty words spoken, hearts were shattered and it all came down to and the MCs are reunited. Everything was wrapped up nicely and the H and h both learn to trust each other and open up. The ending was a very sweet HEA for our MCs.
I also enjoyed Book 1 in this series One Bride Delivered
This is one of those romances that just carries you away. I hadn't realized this was part of a series until I was more than half way through the book, and now I'm eager to read the earlier stories about Greely's sisters and the following about her brother. Ms. Allan has a gift for creating characters that come to life and make you want to get to know them. Quint and Greely's journey to HEA was filled with emotion, balanced with Ms Allan's tongue-in-check sense of humour.
