I think the title of this book is misleading as it looks more into the culture of medieval Germany than its history. While it does discuss various dynasties through the time period, it assumes that you know the fine details and doesn't always fully explain things, which makes you miss some key concepts if youre new to the subject. Also the paving is off.
However I did enjoy this book, I did have some prior knowledge and this is a good start point to launch my studies into medieval Germany. Learning about the literature, art and other aspects of medieval German culture was fascinating and something I wish to persue. Overall it's a good read even if it is a bit jumbled and irregularly paced, credit it where it's due, condensing such a complex period into just under 270 pages is pretty spectacular.
